My boyfriend's parents are wine enthusiasts and wine club members at Young's, so they decided to take me here and two of their other favorite wineries in Amador county. It took us about 45 minutes to drive from Sacramento, and the country roads were quite bumpy to be honest. Young's was the first winery we stopped at during my Sacramento-area wine tasting trip and it was also the most scenic. The garden was filled with plants and was quite charming. The winery was huge, however, the testing room was quite small in comparison. Right now, the owner only allows 6 people inside at a time. They decided not to take Reservations because they don't want to rush people's wine tasting experience during the pandemic. My boyfriend's mom really enjoys their rosé, so I actually had some of it the night before to ... practice? The rosé very popular and often sells out quickly each year. According to the winery, It's a bit drier than other rosés and has a nice fruity nose. On a warm summer day, it tasted very refreshing! We also tried their reds as well, which surprisingly, they don't offer any whites. They are famous for their Barbera, which has rich, heavy notes of cherry. I really wanted to have a great experience here and show my friends how beautiful this winery is. Sadly, 10 of us had reservation here for a birthday party. We got there 20 min late. The lady at the front was extremely rude. Russian accent older lady. .. First she tells us that she can't accommodate us because she had another big party coming. Than tells me we did not have a reservation, which we did. After I confirm our reservation with her her she proceeds to tell me that now we have 40 min to taste and we need to go back and fourth from the bar and taste outside. We came in on a Saturday afternoon to taste (a few months ago). I hadn't been impressed with the wines previously (especially for the price), but since it had been several years since we tried we decided to give them another shot. The advertising sandwich board was out on the driveway and there were some families out enjoying the beautiful patio and outdoor areas. We walked in to the tasting room and went to the bar area, quietly discussing the wines on display. It took quite some time for a woman to appear, and when she did she just looked at us like we were interrupting her lunch time or something. She didn't say anything, and it was really awkward. I said, "Hi, we'd like like to taste." She looked at us like we were the biggest idiots in the world. "We're closed!" She exclaimed, "can't you see it's DARK in here?!" It didn't seem dark to me- it was a sunny day and we'd been to a few locations that kept lights dim for aesthetic, so it wasn't noticeably odd. We said, "oh- ok- your sandwich board out there says 'open,' and the door here was open, so we assumed...." "WE'RE CLOSED." We walked out the door, talking amongst ourselves about the nice day and enjoying the patio. She butted in and rudely said the patio was closed too and we had to leave. We walked out past the families who didn't look like they were getting ready to leave any time soon. That's totally fine if it's closed. That fine if she hadn't had time yet to take down the signs and lock the door. So just be polite about it! Treating us like we're complete morons when we dared to believe the sign was inappropriate and unnecessary. We will not return to a place that treats paying customers this way. read more

Came for a tasting and was pleasantly surprised by the liveliness of the winery! They have a variety of outdoor places to sit. Wish they had more heaters though. They also had live music and a food truck. The wine was good, but didn't leave with any bottles. read more

Great wines, Beautiful winery and small pours. Came here a few weeks ago to do some wine tasting the woman that poured my wine was nice, friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. All the reds i tried here where great but i don't know what up with the pours out here in Amador County it like they only pour a tiny pour in the tasting rooms not Napa, Sonoma, Lodi, Livermore and Paso Robles and they give you a decent pours. I would say the best thing to do is buy a glass of wine. read more

We got there with 45 minutes left to close and a rude hostess came out to straight up tell us that wine tasting was closed and then she said we don't allow kids inside. We didn't need a reservation here so came by after picking up a charcuterie tray (from Prospect) to taste and have lunch (confirm that they are not offering food onsite when you're planning to visit - no outside food allowed when they have a food truck visiting). Stopped on the way to Tahoe a cpl weeks ago with my wife, looked at tasting menu, decided to just get a glass of Zinfandel, while my wife tasted. Was shocked when I got the bill, my wife's tasting was 10$ and they had an extra pour of wine that wasn't on menu which is fair price. My glass of wine ( 5 ozish) pour was 15$$$, what a ripoff. The Zinfandel was on tasting menu so wasn't like they had to open a special bottle. Cheese and crackers with tasting is nice, service was good but when u gouge someone for an avg wine not cool, do the math around the same qty of wine in a full tasting and less labor involved. read more

My fellow yelpers must be having a totally different experience than I've had, and it's really sad. I'm not doubting their experience, but it's just simply very different than mine. First, as you arrive you can not help but notice the attention to detail that goes in to maintaining this beautiful property. They have a plethora of amazing rose bushes and every one of them seems to be producing an abundance of great looking flowers, but it's not just about the roses. They have an amazing array of quality flowers, and I'm sure that the serious horticulturist will enjoy this. You truly do understand why every weekend is booked for the rest of this summer and all of next for marriages and receptions on the property. They were setting one up yesterday as we visited. Second, I'm just happy the place is open. For years we drove be and all we saw was the 'sold out' sign on the main gate. Third, these are some of the most attractive labels in the Amador El Dorado Wine region. They are little works of art, and you are encouraged to stop for a moment and appreciate them. Lastly, the wine is worth the visit. Please don't assume that the wine is not good based on the fact that it's fourth on the list, but this is where the visit really pays off. They have a spectrum of wines to taste, and their reds, like the entire region, are the strength of their line. We bought two bottles, and loved our visit. Here's the problem, and it's a bittersweet problem for them to have. They've got a great property, they demand for their wine far outstrips the supply, they take the time to produce a great looking bottle, and now the word has gotten out. People love it. How do you possibly have all of this happen without attracting crowds. Yesterday was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and the crowd was big and they were setting up for a wedding while we were having our taste. It almost reminded me of Rombauer on any Saturday afternoon. What's the answer? I don't know, I'm not in the industry, but most wineries in Napa charge for their tastings. Would that keep a few folks away and improve the experience for those that want to taste? Probably, but I, for one, don't want to see that happen. So, my suggestion would be for all of us to remember that crowds happen, patience gets short, and everybody wants to have a positive experience. Grab a glass of wine here, take a stroll, enjoy the property and great people you arrived with, and slow down a bit. You can try this, or maybe you can come and taste mid-week. Beyond this, it might be as simple as re-emphasizing good quality customer service for the employees. There is no simple answer. In closing, my hope is that my fellow yelpers experiences are considered by the folks at Young's and that they work on some of the very serious issues discussed, and that they work to make every customer matter. For me, I'll be back, and I'll continue to appreciate what they are doing so well. read more

First stop on our Amador County winery visit. Wow what a beautiful venue. Gorgeous bright sitting area overlooks a view reminiscent Of an Italian villa. The watch out for snakes signs made me a little nervous but alas as we went on to others realized this is a common site. Inside the small tasting room we were greeted by friendly staff and an inviting plate of crackers and a a cream cheese pesto. Not being as fond of red wine as my friends I only tried 1 wine. But my friends fell in love with the Barbera and ended up buying a couple bottles. Definitely glad we stopped as being the first winery we saw could have easily driven past. Mother's Day..... was so excited to head to Young's Vineyard after church instead of our go to Cielo Estate as a few years ago we had the best experience ever for Mother's Day and I had been dying to go back! Welp.... I should have checked the very true reviews before cheating on Cielo because we've never felt so uninvited in any environment ever! We purchased 4 bottles of wine and set up at a few tables and kept to ourselves and let 4 of our kiddos who we very much monitored every second, run around the grass field (like we had a few times in the past) and it all started with the owner sending out the poor young girl that works there to inform us we couldn't let our kids play due to rattlesnakes. I saw the signs all over the property when we first walked in and I was concerned but I then realized that yes, I imagine there's snakes but it's also a way to make your kids stay put even though they advertise as "kid friendly". We are parents, of four kids, and live on property in El Dorado Hills where snakes live and breed, we know the risks of snakes as do our kids. Anywho... we allowed our kiddos to continue to just run and play on the grass field as they weren't disturbing anyone and there were other families doing the same but for some odd reason, the owner kept sending out her messenger to harass our family. No one else's. On top of that, the sweet poor little messenger girl had to tell us every 15 minutes closer to when they were closing and as we were packing up to to again warn us they were locking the gate soon. It was rude and strange. She was so apologetic as she knew it was wrong. We could see the weirdo owner hiding behind a tree up above watching us like Mrs. Trunchbull and our daughters even told us that while they were chasing a lizard the rude woman YELLED at them to "LEAVE"!! I am appalled at this God awful service! We visit Amador and Napa as much as we can and have never felt so belittled ever! Don't let the beautiful atmosphere fool ya! Keep driving and head to Helwig or somewhere else better! read more

Pretty boring tasting through a menu that has no additional information by yourself, and when folks are too busy to chat about the lineup. Got my pours, dumped, paid my $5 and peaced out. Please, please, please visit Young's Vineyards! The views are absolutely breathtaking. You can't help but see this lovely vineyard as it's the first winery you see when driving down Shenandoah Road. My friends and I were visiting for the weekend and had a goal to hit as many wineries we could before we left. I am delighted to say I found this winery. The beautiful landscape is something that definitely catches your eyes. I mean like really the colorful lawn chairs make it a great restful venue to really enjoy some wine. I promise you once you approach the front of the venue, it will leave you wanting more, I know I sure did. The tasting room inside is pretty quaint with two chairs, very cozy type of feeling. My friends are true red wine lovers, which is great because Young's is known for their delicious reds. The winery is known for producing Zinfandel, Syrah, Barbara, and the Cabernet Sauvignon. They raved about the winery and the tastings, although they didn't purchase any wines, I am sure they wanted to because none of the wineries we went to after compared to their delicious wine. The staff does not pressure you to purchase wine, which is always a great experience. They have a unique taste and are exceptionally good! While my friends were tasting the wine, I stopped to use the restroom, which is located on the side of the building (such a fabulous idea). Once you exit the bathrooms you will discover the panoramic views that are just perfect for a picnic! They also have a shaded patio that is also outside and separate from the tasting room. I admit the shaded patio is perfect for a large group of friends to enjoy. I can go on and on about Young's Winery! I absolutely loved the setting, location, and views. For me, there are two sides to Young. The wine is great; they make deeper reds than some of the other wineries in the area--all priced in the mid 20s to 30 dollar range. But on a recent visit the service was terrible. The woman was completely disinterested--pouring us minuscule tastes and then walking away. No small talk, no information. In fact the only time she really talked at all was when she asked us what we wanted to buy at the end of the tasting. The answer to that--even though we all loved the wine--was nothing. Again another vineyard I love (no I do not love every one, just thought I would review my favorites first, i'll get to the others) Ok reasons I love this place, small intimate setting, the wine is really top notch. I like strong bold wines, Fruit forward, bit of spice and good tannins. Even if you just came for the wine that would be enough. However, they also have lovely grounds, a pond, picnic tables with big red umbrellas beautiful garden setting surrounds the small house type tasting room. I have had only good experiences with the staff. Their friendly, informative and not pushy. Their Syrah is probably my favorite, but really you can't go wrong with their wines. read more

The expansive grounds are vibrant and amazing. What a fun place to relax and enjoy a picnic. The tasting room opens up to the lake and grounds. It is very nice inside. The bottle labels here are notably artistic. The wines are good, but young (no pun intended). Some tasters may be put off that their wines aren't necessarily ready now to drink. Lay them down a few years, they're built to last. The Zinfandel is the stand out of the four pours we had. read more

I am visiting from Texas with my family. With all my brothers and sisters we had a party of 8. As we approached the entrance we were met by a women (I assumed she was the owner/manager) who refused us entrance. She was dissatisfied with the size of our group. My brother asked to break our group into two which she stated would not be acceptable because "you know you will end up congregating together anyway". Though I am not surprised at a businesses desire to not break the COVID Ten Commandments, I am surprised at a business lack of hospitality and decorum. Wine tasting has always been a classy experience but when class is lacking all that's left is the pub experience. Come to Young's for the pub experience. read more

Been here a few times. Each time tasted wonderful wine but only bought one 'obligatory' bottle because the people working the wine room are nothing but rude and could care less about the clientele. I'm sure this isn't always the case, but these people obviously don't know where their paycheck comes from. It's a crying shame because this location has a beautiful setting. There are so many other wonderful and 'friendly' wineries in this area we've decided to never patronize this establishment again. In addition, the tasting room has an electrical problem with their lighting. Stopped here for a wine tasting because I heard they have decent wine and the grounds are some of the best in Amador. Pulling up to the winery I will admit that the grounds are very nice. The only problem is the service I received. The women working in the tasting room treated us like a red headed step child. She was rude, un-interested, and was obviously not a people person. They should have put this troll in the warehouse stacking barrels instead of serving guest. As for the wine.... Its hard to tell how good it is when you only get a few drops for a tasting. I would have been bias anyways even if I did get a decent amount to taste. When you get treated like SH!T. The wine will always taste like SH!T. Don't waste your time folks. Young's Winery was a first stop on a first trip to Amador County wineries. Let me say the grounds here are fabulous, some of the best I have ever seen. The wine really surprised me, being from Sonoma County I did not expect the quality that they produced. The Barbara was especially good, and they had a couple of nice Zins and a good Petite Syrah. The downfall for this place was the women working the tasting room. She did not offer any information, conversation, or personality. In addition to that they offer free tasting but she pours so little it is actually hard to get a taste of the wine, do not even try to share a taste as it will be fruitless. (play on words). I went there recently and the hostess there was flat out rude. She was disinterested, disdainful and made condescending remarks towards our group. Contrast this to Villa Toscano where the host was warm, humorous and very welcoming. Needless to say, I bought wine from Toscano, but not from Young's. I'm never going back to Young's again and will never recommend this place to anyone. Newsflash to the lady at Young's: You ain't in Napa so don't act like you're all that and a bag of chips. For bad service and strangely a boat sitting in a tiny lake with nowhere to go, this place gets Franksabunched with 1 star. read more

The wine is good, but it seems as though because of the location (first winery on the road) and the layout of the place is what makes it still in business. Otherwise, the customer service would be enough to put this place out years ago. For starters, we first attempted this winery back in 2008 on a quiet week day with only us in the building. This didn't matter, as the woman working the tasting room made it clear us walking in the door was just the worst thing that could happen to her. We came back a few months later with friends, thinking surely we caught her on a bad day and after all, it is first on the map and a very pretty site. But alas, same woman, same bad attitude. Fast forward a year or two later of completely driving past this place and I was taking a visiting friend out for her first wine tasting experience. I said to my friend, "Let me show you first a place that is just horrible. We will walk in, most likely the woman will be in the back room and ignore us for the first two-five minutes before coming out while on the phone and pouring us samples. She won't bother to tell us anything about the wine, and when she hangs up she will never bother to give us a proper greeting." And sure as sh** this was EXACTLY what happened. So, by this time I have completely written off Young's Vineyard. But, a few weekends ago we were in the area again after moving away 4 years ago. My husband and I looked at each other and said.... "Let's just see....." We walked in, there was I think two other couples already tasting and yup.... no greeting (there was more than one person pouring) no "I'll be with you guys in a minute." So, we stood for only about 30 seconds before walking out. Our time is more valuable than to be treated like third class citizens. If you are a chump enough to pay to get married here, or be a wine club member.... I can't be friends with you. read more

If I could give zero stars to Young's Winery, I would do so! This was the ninth winery we visited over the weekend and it had the only rude tasting room staff. Young's is also the only winery we visited that had a tasting room charge of $20 for groups of 6 or more (without a prior appointment) which would not apply to purchases that day. As a group of friends who met up to wine taste and came in three different cars from Reno, Sacramento and the Bay Area, we found this policy greedy on the winery's part. (Among our group, we had already purchased over 8 cases of wine at Rinquist, Toogood, Cooper, Deaver, C & G di Arie, etc., but we only bought a few bottles at Young's because even though our group enjoyed the zinfandel and cabernet, the rudeness of the staff made several of us decide not to purchase any.) The wine list in the tasting room listed all of the wines they make, but only three were not marked "sold out", so only they were only pouring three. For $20 to have thre miniscule amounts of wine poured and to have to tolerate condescending, rude tasting room staff was a sad way to end what was otherwise a wonderful weekend. When we asked someone for the name of the manager of the tasting room, we were told that one of the women who was the most arrogant and rude was the owner of the winery and that any suggestions for improvement in customer service would not be well-received. There are so many great, hospitable wineries in the Amador County area, after this experience I would never recommend anyone stopping at Young's Winery. read more
