My UMich undergrad student has been in Saga for the past year and it has been a positive experience, planning to return next school year as well. If you understand A2, you know that housing is frustrating, expensive, and the maintenance of many of the houses and apartments leaves a lot to be desired. HOWEVER, Saga and the staff have been very responsive to maintenance requests, questions about payments, etc. The apartment was in very good condition at the beginning, we did have some maintenance requests, but they were fixed within the first day. Nice and central to campus, lots of amenities nearby (CVS/Target/bus stops/food), easy to get to North Campus. read more

Terrible service and unresponsive to requests for fixing appliance and apartment issues once mived in. The lease is for the room and not the entire apartment unit so that means they can fill an unoccupied room to a stranger, making it a coed even if you don't specifically want that. Security is almost non-existent and good luck getting a hold of anyone when you need them in a timely manner. Building is dirty, disorganized and unkept. They don't refund you your deposit upon end if lease and arbitrarily charge you for "damage & repairs" but will not show or prove there were any. Rent is way overpriced for what you get. read more

I lived in this apartment for the 23-24 school year. The company that runs SAGA is extremely unreasonable with their security deposit system. The unit I was given was in rather poor condition when I received it (dust that had clearly accumulated over multiple years on the TV and inside the vents) and I was still charged another $25 to clean the oven (the rest of my roommates were also charged $25 for the same reason resulting in a total of $100 to clean it). I asked for documentation to prove that the money will actually be used for this purpose but I was told aggressively that they are not required to provide me with that, leaving me with doubt that they would actually use the money to rectify it. My recommendation for anybody wanting to lease with them is to take pictures of absolutely everything before moving in. They will try to dock your deposit as much as they can and the only way to avoid this is to document things exhaustively. The laundry room is also not maintained well. Many of the machines are broken consistently, all of the washing machines have visible mold in the detergent drawer, and the machines smell of mildew. To give credit where it is due, the location is very ideal. It is close to central campus and within reasonable walking distance of bus stops. read more

I've lived at the younion for around 5 months now and really recommend living here! The staff is kind and helpful and when my roommates and I have called up maintenance they've come within the hour and have helped us fix whatever problems we were having. In addition there's a nice indoor gym and coffee machine on the first floor, and a really nice sky lounge where you can study 24/7! read more

Do not give them your business. They did us dirty last minute, were very unapologetic, and gave me sass over the phone. They told us that we did not have an apartment two months after singing the lease because too many current residents renewed their lease. We were not warned about this happening at all. Definitely not worth living here. After living here for two years, I can honestly say it's not been the best. Sure, it's clean, but it's also WAY too expensive for what you get. The rooms are small, the plumbing is terrible (good luck getting shampoo out of your hair) and the air conditioning is inconsistent from room to room. Don't be fooled by the new renovations. They may look nice but the gym is too small to use now and has no space for actually working out! The place gets 2 stars for location but that's it. Varsity next door is cheaper and way nicer. read more

My experience for the past year has been great at YOUnion. All the employees are really nice and helpful, and they make you feel very welcome. The apartments are amazing quality with decent sized rooms, and the building comes with a gym and coffee machine! Maintenance is also very timely. I've been a resident at YOUnion Ann Arbor for almost a year now, and this entire year has been nothing short of peaceful and refreshing. Living within a community that only protects and cares and uplifts is truly something else that not many know the feeling of, well, until they experience it! Albeit I didn't take many of the resources YOUnion offered at first, like the brilliant coffee machine in the lobby that makes you the FRESHEST ground coffee, or their instagram promotions, so on and so forth. But - the way they handled every challenge that has been thrown at us in 2020 made this quarantine experience less isolated. They're a communicative community, and they make their residents feel secure and valued. If I hadn't graduated, I'd most definitely be re-signing lease. I lived here during the 2017-18 school year when it was still 411 Lofts. To be fair, half the year the complex was owned by Sterling, and then the current owners took over. I would give Sterling 1-star, and current owners 3-stars to average out to about 2-stars. I'll start from the beginning: The positive: If you are heading to college, this is actually a nice place to live. Great location, nice amenities, and, as my girlfriend called it, 'adult dorms.' Staff was INCREDIBLY friendly. Surprisingly, for it being an apartment complex with a bunch of undergraduates, it was relatively quiet (aside from one time I ran into naked undergrads laughing and screaming in the hallway at 1AM on a weekday). The negatives: 1. The BS Roommate Matching Process: I am a professional. I am so over the young-20s mentality (I'm nearly 30), so when I decided to move to Ann Arbor to pursue my master's degree, it was very important to me that I lived in an affordable place with mostly professionals and/or graduate students. At the time, it was Sterling that gave me a 'Comprehensive Roommate Matching' questionnaire (as they called it) because I decided that I would live with roommates to save some money (a decision I'd later regret). I let them know that above all else, I wanted to live with graduate students or professionals, ABSOLUTELY no undergraduates. They said that was fine, yet I still ended up living with 2 undergraduates. I decided to suck it up and deal with it, but living with 2 people that were respectively 7 and 8 years younger than me did not go very well. 2. The Toilets: Absolutely a nightmare. They use something called the "Flush Assist," so don't expect that you'll be able to fix your toilet flushing issues on your own. It would take 4-8 flushes to work on many occasions. 3. "YES! WE HAVE A GYM! YES! YOU CAN CANCEL YOUR GYM MEMBERSHIP!" This is EXACTLY what I was told when I was apartment hunting. No, if you're a man that lifts heavy, you cannot cancel your gym membership. However, to be fair, it seems as if they are currently renovating the gym. I have no idea what they plan to do. 4. Staff Yes. The staff was very friendly. However, everyone seemed to be below 22 years old and relatively incompetent. I would ask questions and would never get a direct answer. Also, it's nice that they give you free stuff (like free sandwiches, Thanksgiving dinner, cookies on Friday), but I remember when they got Jimmy John sandwiches, I went to grab one, and saw a girl take a bag and put about HALF the sandwiches away -- and there was a staff member RIGHT THERE that seemed to be OK with it. Also, during move-out, I handed my DIRECTV box to one of the staff members who told me he'd "take care of it." I got a hefty bill in the mail the following month. I currently have a friend who lives there, and I think she also has dealt with the same guy as she has reported to me that 'this guy in the office never actually does what he tells me he'll do, and then I have to go above and beyond to get what I need.' Lastly, maintenance is EXTREMELY nice, but maybe 1/3 of what I asked to be fixed was ACTUALLY fixed (one time they didn't even come in and still left a notice saying that they completed the job -- I know this because I waited on the couch for them). I started getting better results when I purposefully stayed in the apartment and spoke to the maintenance guy(s). 5. The rooms Don't let the pictures on the website fool you. These apartments (at least, mine) are not THAT nice. Doable, but not as nice as you'd think. First, there are NO light fixtures AT ALL. You'll need to purchase roughly 3 lamps (per roommate) if you don't want to live in the dark. Second, a lot of the stuff is old. Our sink disposal was so bad, it began to leak once and destroyed EVERYTHING underneath our sink. Third, windows don't open at all (I don't know how that is even legal -- seems like the fire marshall would be on top of this one). 6. The Yelp Rating Again, speaking about Sterling (I'm not sure the company that currently owns the place does this), but the Yelp! review is so high because they have these events where if you post a nice review (you actually have to show the review to a staff member), they give you free lunch. It's unethical, but OF COURSE college-aged students would be all about it. It's free food. Again, I actually think this is a DECENT place to live if you are an undergraduate that enjoys being in close proximity to other undergraduates in a great location. My biggest peeves about this place include (but not limited to) the lies that I was told about Sterling during my apartment hunt, as living in tight quarters with young 20-somethings ended up being quite difficult (I've had things broken, stolen by their friends/acquaintances, and generally, we just didn't get along), and the general overall quality of the apartment is not as presented on the web. Graduate students and professionals that actually value their sanity, look elsewhere. read more

I have lived at the YOUnion for two years now and have really enjoyed my experience. When I first started looking for housing, my friends and I wanted a modern loft apartment that wouldn't break our budget--YOUnion is just that! We lived in the 4 bedroom apartment and I eventually moved to the 2 bedroom. Both units had high ceilings and large windows which were great features. The building has just finished renovations to the lobby, gym and 10th floor. These spaces are now contemporary and extremely tidy. The study booths on the 10th floor are definitely a bonus, and the Starbucks machine in the lobby is so nice for my morning walks to class! I also wanted a building that was secure. Throughout my time living here, I've never felt unsafe. There is a security officer in the lobby over night and you need your key card to access the main door and use the elevator. YOUnion also just included a "Butterfly System" to the lobby, so I'm excited to test that out as well. I also completed the roommate matching process for the two years I have lived here. Both of my experiences have been exceptional and I would consider these people to be my close friends now. Overall, the YOUnion is a great building in Ann Arbor. It has the perfect location and an inviting community. Would definitely recommend! read more

The location is prime as a student going to UMich. The layout and everything is honestly very nice and convenient. The staff and facility workers are honestly some of the nicest workers I've met, and they are always super responsive to our concerns. The only complaint that I really have is that the laundry room can be a bit spotty sometimes because some machines can breakdown, and it get a little bit irritating to have to wait for a quarter of the working machines to finish washing, while the other 3/4 are just sitting there broken. I imagine that it is not their intention to just leave it broken because they do respond to this matter in a timely fashion; however, it does happen fairly regularly (needing maintenance). read more

I have had such a good experience living here so far! The staff is extremely accommodating and kind and the amenities are very nice. The building's community spaces are all very clean and helpful and amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the health guidelines are enforced. I specifically really appreciate the 10th-floor study space and the fitness center. I love living at YOUnion. The staff always greets you with a smile, and they seem happy to help with any issues or questions you have. It's a quiet building, which I love. It is pretty expensive, but the price is not that bad considering the location and the amenities the building has. I have requested maintenance twice; both times the maintenance team arrived within an hour. The most important aspect of living here for me is that it's a very comfortable place to live because there's so little to worry about (despite the monthly stress of paying the rent). The wifi always works, I always have a quiet place to study, and the AC and heating always function as needed. I resigned my lease for next year because I love this place so much. It's a great location if you want to be close to campus but also only a short walk to Kerrytown. The free coffee is a big benefit as well! I would definitely recommend living here if you have the money to pay for it. read more

You can always contact the officers during the office hour; and, if you have troubles after office hour, you can still get solutions and cares by calling the office number. Besides, if you have any questions, you can email officers with a quick response! Recently the YOUnion renovated the fitness center and engagement room, you are able to exercise with more types of equipment and study on the 10th floor. It's a good renovation. read more
