My mom is always hesitant to go to her dentist appointments and now I see why! I accompanied her to an appointment to see if we can make progress in her care plan and left frustrated and disgusted. Dr. Arnold is unprofessional and condescending! It was insulting just being there! I had to walk out to avoid a conflict! When you ask direct questions you get long winded history lessons instead of straight forward answers! Then he acts as if he's doing you a favor by giving you a TED talk on teeth! So my Dad has been my dentist my entire life, but he's in the process of reducing his schedule for retirement. I have gone looking for a new enamel grinder, and I decided to try this practice since it was so close to where I lived. I admit, my teeth aren't great. I usually need two or three fillings a year. During my initial visit I was told I needed 11 fillings. Say what?! I knew there may have been three or four since my dad said we could wait on filling two cavities... But 11?? I gave them the benefit of the doubt since I could see some shadows on the X-rays. Since there were sooooo many f'ing cavities, all four quadrants of my mouth needed work. When my treatment plan was designed each quadrant would be a separate visit. I am very disappointed with two of the three quadrants (stopped at three and had daddy-o check out the fourth.) For the upper left side of my mouth, two new cavities were being added and two old fillings were being taken out and replaced. I was in the chair being drilled and stuffed for around an hour. Then when Dr Wilson was trying to correct the surface of my new shiny fillings so that my bite wouldn't be off kilter, she drilled down the surface of the wrong tooth. Even after I said the bite wasn't changing, she KEPT ADJUSTING THE WRONG TOOTH. She even joked there wouldn't be a filling left if we kept adjusting it. GAAHHHH. I know what you're thinking, and I agree. I don't like it when someone tells me how to do my job. HOWEVER if your actions are not having any results, and I have said this to you, and you continue to work as you were, I WILL tell you you are wrong. And when i follow that by asking you to look at the tooth that I think is causing the problem, don't be rude! For the love of!!!! Also, I was equally frustrated. If I'm paying about 15 working hours of my take home wages for a visit with you, I expect an extra five minutes from you to make sure your work won't cause problems for me in the future. GAH. ANGRY. The lower right quadrant was the other problem. I had three new amalgam fillings installed in my three rear teeth. The filling in the tooth that was the furthest forward broke into pieces six and a half months after it was put in my mouth. WTF. This was the point at which I decided that I wasn't going back to this practice... But don't stop reading! More crazy shit below. I went to my Dad because he would fit me into his schedule. And I was hurting. So he looked into my mouth, saw the filling that was and agreed that it needed to be replaced. When he drilled away the remnants of the filling, we could see the tooth next to it.. The middle child of the lower right fillings. The middle tooth had multiple accidental drill spots with speckles of amalgam filling dust in the drill spots. I have crappy enamel already! Why turn it into a colander?? So my dad fixed the broke ass filling, he fixed the surface of the filling that took Dr Wilson fifteen minutes to not fix, and he filled A (read as "a single") "mini-cavity" (not the THREE listed on the treatment plan for that fourth quadrant) in under 30 minutes. My point of view may be skewed by my Dad's dentistry, but it's not so skewed to not be able to realize bad service when I see it. The hygienist is great, though. read more

Dr. Arnold and Dr. Wilson are fun people and great business owners. When I first entered this establishment, I noticed how clean and comfortable their office felt. The receptionist, Ashley, was kind and hilarious, making it easier to sit and wait for the dentist. Dr. Wilson called me in and sat me down in her chair. I noticed the KKSF 103.7FM smooth jazz vibe and was again relaxed because of the familiar music. She found a cavity which was to be addressed a few days later. When I returned, I have a thing about needles and I mentioned it as I gripped the seats armrest until my knuckles were white. She had a solution: nitrous oxide, laughing gas, the 'stuff' and I was OFF. What felt like 15 mins later, my mouth was slightly numb (turns out I needed the needle and wasn't at all bothered) and I was finished. She advised me on things to eat, ways to protect my teeth, and sent me on my way satisfied. These people are dentist's dentist. Very professional and I HIGHLY recommend. read more

I had an amazing experience during my visit. I was first introduced to this place by my wife... She came for a cleaning and raved about the customer service here. I must say she was on point. I like cozy dentists offices. The front desk staff is super polite and comforting. The check-in lady (Shena) was ready with my new member paperwork as soon as I walked in. My wait time in the lobby was very minimal. My first visit was an exam and cleaning. I loved the results of the cleaning since it had been some years since my last dental visit (don't judge me). I did need to come back another day for 6 fillings, which I did. They even gave me a goodie bag on the way out. I would recommend them for sure. read more

I'd be very skeptical of the dentists here. This was from a year ago, and I meant to spread the word: 1. They told me I had 10+ cavities that needed work. This was a SHOCK to me since my previous dentist never told me this! They showed me X-rays but said I couldn't see them because I'm not trained to read them. Sure... so I asked for X-rays and sent to my wife's cousin, a dentist. She couldn't see anything. 2. They said I needed a "deep cleaning" which I would have to come back for again in a week, because they needed to do more cleaning. This was after the hygienist kept having issues with the cleaning equipment, which took 15+ minutes to fix....so they suddenly I needed a "deeper cleaning" they didn't have time for me, and said I'd have to pay for it myself since insurance only covered 2 a year! So I skipped the fillings. I went to a new dentist (Doctor Saddler, nearby). He said I had 2 fillings that needed to be drilled and replaced since they were cracked and old (from when I was a teen, I'm in my 30s now.) He showed me how I could see it in the mirror, and it was clear. I asked about other cavities and he looked at me odd. No, I didn't have any cavities. I explained my experience at this place and he just chuckled and said he didn't know what to tell me : my teeth don't hurt, you can't see cavaties, and there's nothing on the x-rays. So he's not sure why anybody would tell me otherwise. So here's the bottom line / Short version. I was told I had TONS of cavaties that needed work. It would be $500-$1500 of dental work. I needed an "Extra deep cleaning". I brush and floss! Then I confirmed with two separate dentists I had no issues, and the people here are just quacks. Read through the reviews - this isn't the first review that's talked about fake cavaties and fake dental work. if you're being told things that don't seem to match up with your history, if anything you're told is a surprise....if what you're being told doesn't feel right...go to another nearby dentist and just get a second look. You don't need new x-rays - just get them and walk away! Honestly I posted this because they still e-mail me. I called before office opening to leave a message about getting an emergency appointment. The woman at the front desk called me back immediately and told me they'd see me as soon as the office opened. I was a little late, they didn't say a word about it. They waited for my old dentist to send their x-rays, but still thought to take another, which they didn't charge me for. The dentist could not clearly see the problem with standard dental x-ray equipment, so she referred me to a specialist. The woman at the desk called an endodontist and advocated for me to be seen by them right away. Sometimes the correct answer is "I don't know, but let me find out." I feel like this practice is not afraid to say that, and that's valuable to me. Not only that, but their second opinion means I might not lose my tooth entirely like I was told by my last dentist. They were quick, kind, and professional. It's sad to say, but I wasn't prepared to be treated so well! read more

I'll start out w/ the good: Wonderful office assistant Nice office environment, semiprivate rooms, you get seen on time Awesome dentist (neither Dr. a or w) who was completing her training or something, but left Nothing stood out about cleanings... always a plus! Great dental assistant: I put on my information sheet that I was afraid of needles, and she came back and held my arm while I got a shot They put Ora-Gel on your gums before you get a shot What's missing from the list? The dentists and the work done by them. Yeah, that. Dr. Arnold was OK, until the end of the appointment when I asked him if I could get sealants. I've been getting them since I was a kid, and I didn't know that they were just for kids. Oops. Instead of telling me what I just stated, that they're just for kids, he gave me this horrible attitude. He glared at me and spat out "OK... Now tell me WHY you think that YOU need sealants." Sort of like: Maybe when you're done committing welfare fraud and murdering small children, and you whore yourself out for enough money to pay for them, we'll talk, you sealant-stealing b****. And then there's Dr. Wilson. I think I requested her so I wouldn't get Dr. Arnold again. A year after I saw the wonder dentist listed in the "What's good" list, my veneer (that she put on) chipped off. It's my fault; I grind my teeth. She did a great job w/ the veneer, and it looked like a normal tooth. I didn't mind paying for another one a year later, so I made the Dr. Wilson appt. She did some work on my tooth (it's one of my front teeth), and when she was done she even ran some floss through to make sure the veneer wasn't sticking to my other tooth. I though: Wow, she's so thorough! I just love this place. I didn't bother to look at it, until I got to my car. It was so freakish looking; it was sloped downward, like a fang, but it didn't stop and just looked so weird. It wasn't the same as the first veneer, so I chipped it off (and told her I did so, nothing shady here) and asked her to redo it. I told her what I wanted (for my tooth to look normal, not chipped), and she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. I asked her to look in my record and find out what the previous dentist did. She tried at this point to talk around me (why? I just want my tooth fixed!): What do you mean 'what the other dentist did?' And more of the same: (smugly) Your veneer fell out because you have XYZ (a dental term I've never heard in all my years of having teeth). It turns out that XYZ means "teeth grinding". Why couldn't she have said "because you grind your teeth"? I ended up leaving without it. When they asked if I wanted to schedule my cleaning, I just told them that my insurance was changing and left it at that. Another thing: I have a horrible, horrible gag reflex (they know this, and have made comments). They wanted to sell me a mouth-guard (which I needed), and not knowing that there were different types, I just let them take the mold for my upper teeth and came back for it. I couldn't even wear it! I could barely get it into my mouth w/out almost throwing up. On my next visit, I told them about it and why I couldn't wear it, and they (I'm pretty sure it was Dr. Wilson, but Dr. Arnold is the one who ordered it for me) told me that because I had a gag reflex, I was supposed to have it made for my lower teeth. That might have been useful to know before I purchased it! It cost me over $200, and my insurance paid about $400 for it. Go elsewhere! I gave it two stars instead of one because of the nice lady who held my arm while I got a shot, but the dentists are terrible and their work is shoddy. read more

I chose this dental office because it is the closest to my home. I've only been to one appointment, but I am very pleased so far. The initial exam and especially the xrays are the best I've ever had. My rating for the 2 stars is for the front desk staff. I think the name is shophy. I have been visiting Dr. AW here for 2- years now and there was someone else that was friendly and professional, sorry I don't remember her name. The hygienist "Sylvia" is great - always makes me comfortable. Dr. Arnold is good too. I own a company that deals with the public so I'm sensitive to customer service and employee interaction with clients. I teach this to my employees and raise their awareness. As paying clients, the staff - in this case Shophy needs to show a friendly attitude and not pretend to look busy. Make eye contact with the person standing before you as much as you can when you have conversation. I'm hoping the proprietors will make the necessary training or adjustments to have their employees in good standing. After my next visit, I will update my review. read more

Dr. Wilson's office is getting a bad wrap on some of these reviews. Having just left my biannual cleaning/annual checkup, allow me to shed some light from my perspective. As for the one and only Dr. Wilson, talk about a great guy. When I first met him I liked him immediately. He greeted me with a smile and genuinely appeared to care about my health. He will make you feel warm and comfortable immediately. I am 30 years old and I had two wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Wilson 2 years ago (on my first visit with him, no less!). As I said, he made me feel comfortable immediately. His assistant was a great help in calming my nerves as well. They administered the nitrous, and when my face started cracking with a gas-induced smile, both doctor's smiled at me, and the assistant responded: "you're getting the giggles huh?" I busted out laughing and she joined me. Talk about calming me down! After the extraction Dr. Wilson had his desk assistant Sophie keep an eye on me in the lobby, and after 15-20 minutes he came out and walked with me to my car to make sure I was sobered up enough to drive. Somehow I have fond memories of having 2 wisdom teeth pulled, even 2 years later! I have to comment on Sophie as well, as another reviewer really disparaged her here. Sophie is awesome. She's super friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. She's great on the phone when calling with a reminder, and she provides good advice when you're considering the recommended treatment. It feels like the whole staff is happy and taken care of. read more

I was with this dentist office for 3 visits before switching and I'm glad I switched. I had no problem with the hygenist who was friendly and nice but the doctors and nurses were less than friendly. And the billing is terrible. My dental insurance changed between visits and I asked them to update it to the new insurance, even faxing a letter and a copy of the new insurance card. They said no problem but continued to bill the previous company instead, causing me a lot of hassle. How difficult can it be to throw away my old insurance information and replace it with the new information? Apparently, too difficult for the office staff here. Also, the filling Mrs. Wilson did came loose a year later and had to be redone by my current dentist. I believe this dental office does shoddy work all the way around and I recommend staying away. read more

I love this dentist, they make me feel extremely comfortable and make sure to explain everything before they begin any procedure. They did a thorough check of my teeth when I went in the first time. Fantastic! Dr. Arnold and his team are simply amazing. I had an old cap on my tooth from a football injury 15+ years ago. I noticed it was discolored and felt it was time to get into a dentists office and get it checked out/fixed. I made an appointment and went into the office the following week. I was greeted very kindly and seen in a matter of minutes. I learned that my previous dentists had done a terrible job of maintaining the tooth and helping me understand the consequences of not having a full crown on it. Dr. Arnold knew I was getting married the following week and did everything he could to make sure I had my tooth fixed before then. This place is wonderful, the staff is incredible and Dr. Arnold is very personable and caring. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a comprehensive exam with professional advice. read more

Great & friendly place! I have had a cleaning and some cavities filled here over the past few months and I really enjoyed my service. Most dentist offices make you fill out a ton of paperwork at every appointment and I'm glad I didn't have to do any! Additionally, they're extremely prompt as I was taken in right away. The first time I ever went to the dentist without a wait! That's a definite plus in my book. Some of the reviews comment badly on the staff but I must say that everyone I encountered was extremely professional and friendly. The front desk woman (Sophy) smiled and offered me water, she even double checked my insurance to make sure I didn't have a co-payment for my visit. The hygienist Dr. Sylvia was very friendly and talkative, she made me feel very comfortable. And Dr.Arnold was an all-around nice guy. Shook my hand when he met me, made good eye contact and everything. The two dental assistants that I encountered were also very easy to talk to. The interior is nice and professionally looking and small (which I like because it feels more personal). There is some pretty cool artwork around the office and it has a nice, respectable music playlist as well. Patient rooms are also pretty private. Overall I am satisfied with the service I received here. Its a nice and convenient place for me. Its generally really uncomfortable to have a stranger put their hand in your mouth but I definitely felt at ease here. Most other dentist offices I've been to don't do that for me. I even got a goodie bag with a toothbrush and some toothpaste to take home with me. Winning! :) read more

This is a terrible dental practice. I went to them for two years because I didn't know any better several years ago. Yesterday, they sent me an email telling me I should refer new clients and get free movie tickets! Thanks for reminding me that you guys exist, I intended to file a complaint with the licensing board several years ago and never got around to it. Maybe this is the year. These guys are TERRIBLE. They aren't all that bad in the office, reasonably friendly and appear to be competent - the problem is their work sucks. Before you assume that I just have bad teeth (I do!) I should mention that I started seeing them because two family members were seeing them and I also brought my husband to see them. So four of us were seeing them. I stopped seeing them the fourth time that the filling that they'd put in (on different teeth) fell out. My sister stopped seeing them after it happened six times on the same tooth. Her husband stopped seeing them after a terrible experience in their office. And my husband stopped seeing them after they told him that they wouldn't fix the filling that had fallen out of his tooth twice because he had "misaligned teeth that won't hold fillings". Everything hurts. During, after, everything. There is no follow-up, even on relatively serious procedures. And you are blamed for everything that goes wrong. Teeth hurt? Your fault. Filling fell out? Your fault. EVERYTHING is the patient's fault. Avoid these people like the plague. There are wonderful dentists out there, keep trying dentists until you find a good one! These folks are like used car salesmen, they'll sell you a lemon with lots of nice wax and polish on it and then when the engine starts rattling three blocks from the dealership they'll say "Haha, sucker!" And yes, I already have a window up with the information on how we can file a complaint with the board. These people should not be practicing. read more

I wish they would take the time to check their reviews. I was a fan at first because I loved chatting with Dr. Wilson and appreciated her bedside manner. I got a couple of filings done and although they do try, the experience was just okay and I still have doubts about whether they left one of them level enough. This year, I got to see Dr. Arnold, by mistake thanks to the receptionist, and although he is friendly, and seems competent enough, he may be a bit business driven and will shut you up during his out loud thought process. Last year, I got to get my teeth cleaned by a real dentist who was excellent and gentle, but she wasn't there this year. The dental hygienist was okay but not as gentle. The receptionist then was great too but things have seemed to decline since. Sofie seems out of focus and commits many errors in both setting appointments and summarizing procedures post visit. Sorry guys, but there are enough signs for me to move on before going any further. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. - I went here for a teeth cleaning. The receptionist was extremely rude and in a hurry. Then I got my teeth cleaned and they were rough, and shoving things in my mouth despite me being obviously uncomfortable. my wife also went here and Dr Arnold convinced her that she needed to shave one of her teeth down in order to save it from falling out (??!!!). After that she had to go back for a follow up and they told her they needed to CUT a part if the gum out to fit a cap over the tooth. She told them she was not comfortable with doing that and he said "just let me do my job". Her gum ended up swelling up and she went to another dr. Who said they cut way too much gum off and that it was unnecessary. read more

Two stars because I always found them to be kind and organized. But, ugh, I sent my young son to this practice for almost three years. At our last appointment, I was told that there was one spot on a back tooth that they were watching, but nothing more. 6 months later, I booked with a pediatric dentist closer to our new house. Turns out that he needs TWO baby root canals and has TEN smaller cavities. I was aghast! There's no possible way all that formed in just the last 6 months - we have excellent brushing habits at home. I even had a second opinion at another office, and this quote came back with him needing two baby root canals and 8 fillings. The practice at Arnold and Wilson simply didn't give him the care and attention he needed, and now I'm stuck with so much dental work at once. Perhaps they pay closer attention to the care of adult teeth? I certainly wouldn't recommend this practice for children. read more

I cannot believe these other reviews! I have had nothing but a great experience at this dental office. I spend years avoiding dentist, due to several bad experiences with other dentists and a major fear of pain. After being referred to Dr. Wilson, about six years ago, I came in for my evaluation. During this time I was greeted warmly by the office staff and felt very comforted right away. I explained my previous issues with Dr. Wilson and was assured that I would have a better experience here. At my subsequent visit, they made sure I had enough pain medication and both Dr. Wilson and her assistant, Esper, made sure that I was comfortable. Since that first visit, I have been working on releasing my fears and embracing taking better care of my teeth. This is the first time in my life that I can honestly say I LOVE my dentist! I actually enjoy my visits. No longer do I cringe when it is time for my appointments. I look forward to taking care of my teeth and setting a better example for my son. I owe all this to Arnold and Wilson D.D.S. - especially Dr. Wilson and Esper! I also have to mention that EVERYONE, including both Dr. Wilson and Dr. Arnold, is very polite and personable. I have been a patient of Dr. Wendi Wilson for many years now. There are stories about a high rate of depression among dentists because no one really WANTS to see the dentist. That is not true for me, and I would guess for the huge majority of patients of Arnold & WIlson. The respect and caring shared among the staff is clear, and is passed along to patients. I have a terrible gag reflex, but for all the gag-inducing procedures, either Dr. Wilson or an assistant are there to remind me to breathe through my nose, massaging my shoulder, sitting me up, etc. (I'd love to name the most recent assistant, but I've never quite caught her name....) Also, the visit before last, Dr. Arnold was talking with an elderly patient on the other side of the barrier. He was SO patient, respectful, and compassionate! For the past 19 years I have been a patient at the Arnold and Wilson dental office. Twenty years prior to that I had only met one dentist with whom I felt comfortable, even though several others were very competent and professional. As I never looked forward with glee to my dental appointments, these past 19 years of dental care have been the best of my life. Dr. Wilson is my primary dentist, and she is absolutely phenomenal. She is always professional and friendly. Additionally, her work is exceptional. From bridge work to extractions, to caps, fillings and crowns, she has made my smile the object of almost daily compliments from strangers and friends, alike. I have had only one series of treatments from Dr. Arnold--the extraction of two wisdom teeth. Contrary to all of the warnings from friends and family of the pain that was awaiting me, to my surprise, these special extractions went very smoothly with a minimum of pain. By the way, Dr. Arnold has a great sense of humor. Finally, the whole office environment allows one to be as relaxed as possible in a dental office. The staff, from receptionists to dental technicians and hygienists, is exceptionally pleasant and friendly. Chit-chat, banter, and laughter abound. Even the office music is relaxing and soothing such that my initial anxieties easily subside until I have to receive my first shot of novocaine, which always is administered with TLC. While waiting for the medication to take effect, I regularly enjoy reading one of the wide range of magazines that always are readily available. Anyone looking for a great dental experience definitely should try Drs. Arnold and Wilson. read more

I've been awhile since I've been to a dentist as the one at the last practice I went to butchered me. I've had several procedures here across at least 5 visits and have always had a great experience every time. I am terrible with names, but everyone here that I've met has been friendly and open. Every procedure and technique being used was explained to me, rationalized, and done without a hitch. Pain management was always a consideration and I would happily recommend them to anyone else. Dr. Daniel Chen, in particular, is amazing. He is highly skilled and a perfectionist about his work. And beyond that, he is exceptionally kind, genuinely interested in his patients, and he does everything to ensure a pain-free dental experience. I've only lived in the Bay Area for six years. I had previously gone to the same dentist in the Chicago area for decades. When I came to California, it seemed like I wouldn't be able to find a dentist I could trust here; the two other practices I had tried were upselling me relentlessly and at the same time providing substandard care. The reviews here for Arnold and Wilson kinda blow me away. I've been going here for seven years or so, and I literally love them. Dr. Wilson is the most gentle dentist I've ever had, and knows her sh*t. I've only seen Dr. Arnold once - when Dr. Wilson wasn't available. He was great, too. I prefer to go to a dentist who fills little cavities instead of letting them get bigger. Maybe some people think this is a tactic, but I consider it good dental care and appreciate it. I've never had a filling fall out. Also - yes, the office manager can be brusque at first but is a totally sweet woman when you get to know her. I think she has a hard job and does it well. In short, I hope Dr Happy Tooth stays in business as long as I have teeth. Don't forget to floss, kids! read more

After my other dentist retired, I found Arnold and Wilson, DDS. I've been visiting this office almost 5 years. I have referred my friends here. The staff is very friendly and professional. The staff goes above and beyond to create a top notch customer experience. I had a few fillings and bridge procedures done by Arnold and Wilson, DDS. I am consistently impressed by their detailed attention, their focus during a procedure, and kindness throughout. I was amazed when I received a phone call from my doctor the next day after the procedure to check how am I doing. Very caring doctors!! I am so glad I have found this office.
