Established as part of the Muncie park system in 2010, Canan Commons includes a stage for performances, open space for gathering and informal recreation, and lighting that includes solar panels and wind turbines. Canan Commons is a community gathering space that hosts movies, music, the biannual Arts Walk, Muncie's community Christmas Tree, and the city's New Year's eve ball drop. There's free street parking to the east and west of the park. There's a garage next to Courtyard, however, it's only free for guests. Canan Commons is a fairly simple park. It's mostly a green space, though it has hosted some cool concerts including Pokey Lafarge and the Muncie Three Trails Music Series. The park is named after former Muncie Mayor Dan Canan, a popular three-term mayor whose family has long contributed to the community. Easily within walking distance from the Courtyard, Canan Commons also offers easy access to downtown Muncie restaurants and shops. While it's not really an upper-tier park for me, it's an enjoyable place that I visit during nearly every visit I make to Muncie.

We brought our own skates and were bummed to find out you had to pay to skate, even if you didn't need to rent skates! We paid $10 for each of us, which isn't bad. The night we went, they had "cosmic skate", where all the house lights are turned off and there are dim colored lights cast on the ice. It was a cool concept and something I never experienced before. The Arctic Zone has Sirius XM for their radio and the staff had the "coffee house" music station on. We were finally exhausted of the less than energetic music and asked if they could change it to something more upbeat. They did and things got more exciting! We will probably return sometime in the future, but will try out other rinks first.

The roads are a little confusing if some of them are one way or not. The waterfall area is quiet and pretty. They had some picnic tables. There was a staircase to view it closer and the stairs were a little sketchy. The beach area was pretty wide and we found space. They have a little snack area and a dive center. They also have an inflatable obstacle course for purchase. The restrooms were messy and smelled. The beach was clean and they had trash cans. The quarry water was clear and the water was nice. They have primitive camp sites and electrical sites. We saw that most of the electrical sites seem to have full time residents there. Overall it's a great spot to check out and relax at.
