This place is really cool. The ambiance is speakeasy esque with darker lighting, a record player and a lot of open spaces between tables. The service is what you would expect for a high end restaurant. Attentive, efficient, friendly and helpful. The food was also good. Everything we ordered was executed well. The flavors were exactly as described. Portions were on the smaller side but still more than enough to satisfy. The food was more Asian fusion than anything but definitely worth the trip. Heard about @yozora_satx from Maddy Skye's recent article on restaurants to check out in 2024. We headed there tonight for dinner. They're currently in their soft opening phase, but do take reservations on resy.com. We were early enough that a table was available. This is a high-end Japanese restaurant located right below Silo Terrace Oyster Bar by the Dominion area. Hubby had the draft Asahi beer, I had the Lemon Sawa (sake cocktail with Suntory carbonated lemon soda), and Dad had Sprite. Victor gave us the complimentary Avo Tuna Poke. Yummy start! We had the following dishes to share: Mochi Tonbara Maki (pork belly), Sasami (chicken), Truffle Hamachi (yellowtail), Chilean Sea Bass, and Wagyu & Soba. If you love sauces, there are plenty of tasty ones here. Great presentation, and phenomenal flavors. We ordered rice to eat with the sauces! The only downside was that some of the wagyu pieces were veiny and tough. Overall, a great experience, music, and ambiance. read more

The miso soup was the best I've had in my life! The gnocchi was tasteful and paired nicely with the wagyu.

The food is excellent. The wagyu is spectacular, probably the best I've ever had! The tako wasabi, an appetizer consisting of raw chopped octopus seasoned with fresh wasabi root, was a unique dish. It is an acquired taste, first you wonder if you want to bite into the fleshy bits again then you're suddenly craving the wasabi sting. The truffle hamachi is one of the bigger dishes, sliced yellowtail from Japan with shiro tosazu sauce, and to top it off some grated truffle. YUM. When we first arrived they brought a dish of seaweed and cucumber topped with ceviche as compliments from the chef. It was delicious and I hope to see it as an appetizer again! We had a bottle of Tamano Hikari sake, recommended by our server, it was just what we wanted: had a smooth kick. In the future I hope to see the furniture updated to match the feel of the menu! Am already planning on revisiting to try some of their other unique dishes. read more

As the sister restaurant to Shiro, I already knew that this place would be awesome. Shiro blew me away, and so did Yozora. From the Hi-Fi audio setup spinning Japanese jazz albums to the unique flavors of the food. This is a must try 10/10 experience. I absolutely enjoyed everything I tried here. Unique and interesting flavors like the truffle miso soup to start off as well as freshly imported Japanese fish for the crudo dishes. My favorite bite was the Enoki Tonbara Maki. This is a charcoal fired enoki mushroom wrapped with pork belly. Delicious. I wanted to order it again. Their service was great too. The plates came out at a nice pace and relatively fast for a busy Saturday evening dinner. Honestly, everything on this menu sounded great, and I can't wait to come back and enjoy this place again and try the rest of the menu. I only wish it was closer to my area. read more

We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday. We had reservations, but it wasn't too busy when we got there. There wasn't much for signage and they don't show up on Apple Maps yet, but I think they are only doing a soft open. Our server was great and the ambiance was stunning. The restaurant is in a shopping center with plenty of parking. There was valet, but not sure how much it cost. We got the creamy miso soup, hot line gyoza, warayaki toro, negima, yaki onigiri, pork belly & rice, and wagyu toban rice. Everything came out at a good pace and was the perfect portion. Came here on a whim and I'm so glad we found this place! We almost gave up because we couldn't find the restaurant since the sign is down low. All of the food tastes so fresh and the fish is all dry aged! We had Mateo as our server and he was so knowledgeable about the whole menu and gave us great recommendations, but all the staff were so nice! This was a great date night location. I debated whether or not to post this review because I absolutely want to gatekeep Yozora. However, I also want Chef Emanuel and his team to succeed, so whatever. Just as long as you leave me a table, I'll let you in on the secret. The interior is mid-century modern with a chill vibe. The clean lines and no-frills interior didn't feel sparse but instead gave me Mad Men vibes. The vinyl set up to the left of our table screamed 70s basement party in all the right ways. The music was kept at an acceptable level--not too loud that it kept us from hearing our conversation but loud enough to tempt me into shaking my hips when a slammin' Bossa Nova came on. **Be advised: we ordered damn near everything on the menu, and our bill reflected as much. Don't think too hard; just donate some plasma next month.** It's not hard to go a little menu crazy with the izakaya-inspired menu. Lucky Chicken is a red ale IPA from Kyoto, Japan. I had the yuzu sake high ball, which was crisp and refreshing.  The Asian pear cucumber salad was addicting. The floral pear and the mildly sweet cucumber cleansed the palate in anticipation of the meal. The Shiro Wrap (which I assume is named for Yozora's predecessor) is a spicy avocado and panko-fried soft-shell crab filling surrounded by a soy wrap, masago, and chives. It's one of those dishes you think of occasionally and wonder if it misses you as much as you miss it. The Charcoal Grilled Chasu had a unique combination of fatty braised pork belly scented with charcoal that highlighted the salty creaminess of Reggiano cheese. The scallion kimchi that accompanied it mixed spicy with the herbaceous punch of the scallion tops. The Garlic Edamame is like a toxic relationship: it hurts you but is so addictive and lovely that you can't help but keep coming back to it. I spent the rest of the meal slurping soybeans from their pods while I conquered the rest of our meal. These have moderate spiciness, so if you're sensitive to heat, I would skip them.  Hot Line Crispy Gyoza is a fried pork dumpling tossed in 911 sauce (it was more urgent care to us) and topped with parm-Reggiano cheese. These weren't our favorite, but we'd demolish them after a night of drinking. We moved on to the Yakitori section of the menu and enjoyed the Negima (chicken thigh and Japanese leek) and Waygu. Both were grilled exceptionally and remained juicy and tender.  We chugged on over to the "Crudo and Battera" section and ordered the Toro Tartare (I wished the lotus chip was thicker to accommodate the weight of the rich tartare), the Pepper Fin (I could drink the citrus soy/chili oil situation), and the Crispy Toro (we loved the juxtaposition of the creamy, fatty toro and the hidden crispy rice).  You might think we were ready to tap out by now... and we were, but we had ordered the Waygu Teriyaki, and we're no quitters. The Wagyu was cooked perfectly, a gorgeous medium-rare, and the soy beurre blanc sat in was nothing short of seductive. Our final push was the Yuzu Japanese Citrus Pie. I don't know if they have an in-house pastry chef, but whoever created this dessert knows what the hell they're doing. The yuzu offered the right amount of pucker factor, and the crisp, buttery crust added just enough sweetness to balance it. Our server (I want to say his name was Ray or Roy) was exceptional in his attentiveness, engagement, and hospitality. I wholeheartedly recommend Yozora as I think it should be on everyone's list of must-eat places in the San Antonio area. read more

I'm torn between sharing how absolutely spectacular this restaurant is to ensure they stay successful and keeping it my best-kept-secret so I can be sure I always have a table! My husband and I visited on a Sunday (with a reservation) and pleased to learn about their all-day Sunday happy hour, which had some really fantastic options. We went to town and ordered plenty, and let me tell you--everything was delicious. Thought not pictured (we ate it too quickly), their gnocchi is a dish I'll be thinking about for a long time. There were such distinct flavors in every plate, with some really unexpected choices (like Parmesan on gyoza!). On top of it, the restaurant itself was gorgeous with a vinyl playing gently in the background and beautiful, modern wood paneling throughout. Their service was also great; our waiter was prompt, very savvy of the menu, and pleasant. My one complaint (if I were to give one) would be that we felt like far too many patrons were underdressed for such a beautiful restaurant (quite a few ball caps and shorts). Of course, that's no knock on the restaurant, which is clearly trying to maintain a more refined dining experience in every way but customer dress! 10/10- We are already excited to return! read more

We came here to try to find a taste of Japanese cuisine in San Antonio. We have just returned from a long trip to Japan and were searching for food that could somewhat hold a candle to the experience. While Yozora is more Japanese with a twist- the precision, detail to flavor depth and profile and high quality ingredients were on par! Some of the best bites we've had in a long long time were in the crispy toro! The service was also absolutely warm, attentive and truly a delight. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes! This is not to even mention the sound system and intimate ambiance of the space. So special and something we have found hard to find in the area. 100/10 all around! read more

Atmosphere was quiet and calm. Tsukemono was delicious , fresh and crunchy. Sashimi, (Chirashi), tempura and beef were all excellent. Wait staff was very helpful and the people were personable and easily approachable with questions about menu items. Of particular note is the fact that Yozora had Asahi Superdry beer ON TAP. This is unheard of as far as my experience in the US. Recently due to the political situation they heave apparently devised a locally brewed duplicate at a lower cost which I cannot wait to try rhew next time we are in town. Wonderful service, ambience, and food! Very much like the world famous Raku of Las Vegas at a fraction of the price. The miso soup is one of the best I've ever had! The tempura exquisite, the yakitori, and teriyaki tremendous. The appetizer are very large and delicious-meals of themselves. I ate here last night with my family and we were not impressed. The service was pretty terrible, our server had to keep running back and forth to the kitchen to ask any questions we had because he had the answers to none of them. The entree I wanted to order I guess wasn't available until 6:45 pm? (We arrived around 5pm). They put my mothers order on my uncles plate for some reason and served it to him without informing us it was 2 orders on one plate so he ate it and she waited a very long time for a meal that never arrived. We informed them initially that we would be splitting checks 3 ways (by couples) and they got the items on all 3 of our checks wrong. Also this place was very hard to find as there's no outdoor lights or signage that's visible from the parking lot. I did like the music situation so the ambiance was fine. Yozora is the sister restaurant to, who cares, this is the better sister. The sister that lives away from downtown and up in the hills. She's harder to find. She's a little darker and has a more distinctive sense of style. Easy going and smooth with a love of the 70's. And she collects old audio equipment to play her record collection. She's sexy but in a modest way, you think to yourself "damn shawty dat brain go crazy" this place was hyped up to babygirl and I a few months back (shout out to Kat) and we finally got around to trying it. It is a bit out of the way. And it is a bit hard to find. But if I could find it with my severely limited intelligence so can you. The staff is very professional but receptive to my incessant need to be a silly goose all the time. We had two servers one was training but they were both extremely easy to deal with. Sorry I forgot your names I had all that sake and my last brain cell was really pushed. It's so refreshing to have a soundtrack that isn't the same god awful shit that every other restaurant on earth plays. Just as it's delightful to go to a Japanese restaurant and not see 50 different sushi rolls that vary by one ingredient. Please check this place out if you're reading this. My husband and I have visited Yozora twice now since discovering it a few weeks ago. Our first experience was just the two of us and we sat at the bar. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helped guide us as we made dining/sake choices. Both my husband and I love Japanese cuisine and were so excited by their unique menu - especially their yakitori offerings. We had a variety of items from crudo, rolls, yakitori, and specialties. All of it of the highest quality and presentation. Photos simply don't do it justice - we just loved having some 1:1 time and sharing in the excitement that finally exotic and unique food was coming to San Antonio! Our second visit was with our kids (8 and 3 years old). We didn't know, but their dining room is 18+ so we opted to sit on their patio. Definitely a different dining experience and vibe, but worth it because we knew the food would be delicious. Please know: this dining experience was more for us adults than the kids. They have no kids menu, so they kind of picked off our plates. However they did love the bear macaroons ;) This time around we ordered similar to what we ate the last time we were there and then a few new things, too. Overall, Yozora continues to be a favorite place of ours and we look forward to dining again before we move! read more

This restaurant is a must. I have already been there twice in a week probably one of the best soups I've ever had. The truffle miso soup have tried different appetizers each time all have been amazing . The Seabass was delicious when they say bento box it's actually quite big. I recommend doing appetizers and then maybe sharing the main dish. The ambience is intimate. You need to definitely make a reservation. The waiters have been great and are able to recommend items for you. I do wish they had better desserts. Didn't really care for the macaroons, but they're super cute. Hubs and I had a fabulous date night at this new contemporary Japanese spot! It has a very minimalist cool vibe, spinning vinyls on the state of the art equipment...low light atmosphere provides a sexyspeak-easy environment perfect for a date night. We tried their hot sake with smoked blowfish fin, which was definitely a unique experience. For our food, we got several small plates, to include truffle miso soup, which was amazing! They were out of several things, which was disappointing, but we enjoyed the experience nonetheless. The service was a bit slow, but we were enjoying each other's company, so didn't mind. Everything we had was fantastic, including some chef specialties that I cannot recall the name of. Just like Shiro, everything is done to perfection. Yowza. We finally have high-end Japanese cuisine north of 1604! This gem is tucked away off of I-10 near The Dominion. Reservations with Resy are a bit wonky; the website didn't work on a Monday but was fully up and running on a Tuesday. Wifey and I went for dinner on a Tuesday, so there was ample parking. The atmosphere is modern and chic, yet warm and inviting. Awesome jazz music played for most of our visit, which had a great vibe. It later changed to R&B, which really didn't click. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. We opted for the prix fixe menu, and were apparently the first customers to have done so. Service was slow until we received our cucumber salad (an included appetizer); thereafter, it was on point. We each had the creamy miso truffle soup. It sounds as great as it looked and tasted. Probably the best miso soup we've had anywhere, including Japan. For crudo, wifey opted for the aburi machi, while I opted for the pepper fin. Both were gorgeously presented, bright, fresh, and flavorful. Very complex palate. For main plates, I went with karai octopus and she the wagyu teriyaki. Mine was spicy and tangy, with a perfectly cooked whole tentacle. Hers was medium rare Australian Wagyu. It would be (much) better and worth charging extra to upgrade to a Japanese A5 or higher Wagyu. By this point, she was full and I not. So, I splurged for yuzu Japanese citrus pie (think Key lime pie). Delicious. We washed all this down with a nice bottle of Born "Gold" Junmai Daiginjo Sake. It was very complex with savory notes and a bit of salinity on the finish. All in all, we enjoyed everything about this place and will be coming back. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

Just recently came back from a Japan trip, was excited to reminisce on the Izakaya experience! Very cool experience being able to dine to some Japanese vinyl music and watch the chefs grilling yakatori right in front of you! Food was delicious, very fresh and authentic flavors. Be prepared to be a bit on the pricy end however, and have small portions. The had the wagyu yakatori was over cooked for me, but the rest of the skewers were excellent.
