Dr Shlesinger isn't just the best endocrinologist that I've ever seen, he just might be the best doctor I've ever had in my life. I just saw him for the first time ever and I was just blown away at his professionalism, knowledge, and ability to listen to me and analyze my medical issues. Nava Shlesinger, probably a relative or wife, runs this office. I had NO follow-up for abnormal test results for 11 months and when I asked why, Nava blamed me, called me names, blocked me from further sending messages, and harassed me with inappropriate questions instead of apologizing or simply being kind. Disappointed, at first i was told that I had type 1, offered a new insulin from different pharmaceutical Brand(Which is strange). results came in, It showed I was type 2 ( a relief to me). I stopped taking all medications as I think they do not solve the problem, still have a little high morning blood sugar but very normal during the day or after meal, tried to ask the question why (as it is puzzling), never replied to my emails, I have to search for information myself in the internet by reading a hundreds of articles to understand that a diet is key to managing my diabetes, I was never given any recommendations on diet, or lifestyle changes, as I figured it might not in the interest to provide these information. Not sure if would recommend this place for diabetes. Looking for another doctor. 07/07/2020 Updating the doctor's rating to one star as I wish I can give zero or negative star. As weeks progress I found out that I do not even have diabetes, how does a specialist be so much off (180 deg out of phase), Very intriguing. He wanted to put me on insulin, metformin, and Glimeride when you know the Medecine will add 200lb to your weight and you will be sick all your life. Do not wast your time going to his office, if you are type 2 just go on diet and diabetes will vanish. I would give this provider zero if I could. the doctor gave me one test and decided I had PCOS. which apparently developed out of no where even though I requested that he give me a pelvic ultrasound before determining this. the pelvic ultrasound showed absolutely no cysts on my ovaries. he also knew I had a low ovarian reserve which does not go hand in hand with PCOS. My OBGYN and reproductive endocrinologist both disagreed with his diagnosis so I got a second opinion from another endocronologist who tested me beyond 1 test and confirmed what the other two doctors had said-that I do NOT have PCOS. he had me on medication for months without any indication of ever taking me off. when I questioned his diagnosis he got rather upset and told me "well what do I think it is then". in addition, office staff is very pushy and unhelpful. read more

Sadly and similarly to other posters, my experience with this office has been consistently bad. The office staff doesn't answer the phone, and when you do hear back from someone, they are rude and dismissive. I tried several times explaining to one of the office staff that the information they had on file regarding my insurance was incorrect, and she repeatedly interrupted me, was very defensive, and ultimately told me I could not see the doctor because the matter wasn't worked out prior to my appointment. I need a work up for thyroid cancer, so this two-week delay in my care because of office staff laziness and poor attitude is totally unacceptable. They clearly confirmed I had insurance prior to the visit but wanted me to pay cash because they apparently can't call an insurance company when they get unclear information out of their system. It gets better: I went back for an appointment and forgotten my mask. So I asked the receptionist if I could have one from the office for my visit. She said they don't have any. She actually said the medical office had no masks, which was clearly not the truth, as one was sitting on her face. Then she said if I didn't have a mask, I would again need to leave without seeing the doctor. I went next door and the orthodontist office gave me one. I absolutely adore Dr. Schlesinger. He LISTENS. He is willing to let you participate in your care, which can sometimes be difficult to find in a doctor. He offers solutions that a person may not know about. Very effective at helping me manage my Type 1 diabetes. However. Let's talk about a particular medical receptionist that is under the employ of Dr. Schlesinger/NorCal Endo. I do not know her name. I've had the misfortune of speaking to her twice on the phone and both times were incredibly frustrating because quite frankly, she's a complete a&$h@le. I believe the physicians at this practice are only in office on certain days and on days when there isn't a doctor there, even though there is reception/front office staff in the office, the phone isn't answered. I have been waiting for a particular prescription to be filled that I can only get via mail-in pharmacy and although the paperwork was signed, there was a spot that was missing a signature. My pharmacy has reached out, left messages, re-faxed paperwork, and...nothing. I have been trying to get this handled for over a month. So I called the office yesterday. 3 times before my sweet friend finally answered and as I was trying to explain the problem I was having, she spoke over me to tell me it was taken care of and I said "today?" (as ANOTHER fax had been sent earlier that day) and she said no, days ago and so I tried to say it wasn't completely filled out and again got cut off and spoken over and told it had been taken care of. Back and forth, and I'm trying to not be rude, because this is my life we're talking about and I need help and this is my doctor's office so where else can I turn, right? Finally I said, "ma'am can you please stop interrupting me?" to which she said "bye" in such a crappy condescending tone and then hung. Up. On. Me. REALLY??? Does she think this is a game? THIS IS MY HEALTH, MY LIFE, MY ABILITY TO WORK AND JUST FUNCTION ON A DAILY BASIS and she's going to be a d$%k to me and then hang up on me?? All I can say at this point is I'm really disappointed that I will have to find another doctor based solely on the behavior of my current doctor's staff. Dr Shlesinger is a very caring physician. My mother has been under his care for the last 3.5 years after being referred by the primary care doctor. Dr Shlesinger has very relax atmosphere in his office which has been helpful to my mother. I personally find the doctor very patient and helpful with my mother's care. The office staff (both Tiffany and Kim) is always pleasant and responsive. Quick with refills or answering questions also. My mother has been able to manage her diabetes with an ease since seeing Dr Shlesinger. I can't think of any reason to not recommend this office and the doctor to any patient needing an endocrinologist. I had nothing but pleasant experience. read more

He's very disorganized, his office doesn't seem to understand that insurance companies need prior authorizations for procedures that they order, and the patient get's stuck with the costs!!! Also, I have left 7 voicemail messages to call me back, and they never call me back. Even when I'm asking for results from tests or trying to set up an appointment with the doctor. Basically, the office is incompetent. I have also had bad experiences with consultations with the doctor about test results that were ordered and performed at the wrong time after a surgery, therefore showing ambiguous results, and costing extra tests. He seemed confused about what the test results meant, and what to do about contradictory results. I am not at all happy with Dr. Shlesinger. I advise against using him. Or if you do use him, be very careful in all communications with him and his office. They are disorganized and don't follow through. I am very grateful to have been referred to Dr. Shlesinger. I came down with extreme pain in my thyroid. He fit me in immediately, prescribed an ultrasound and blood work. The great part was the office called me first thing in the morning after the test results came in. He prescribed a steroid over the phone, called it into my pharmacy and 1 week later I am feeling 99% better. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. I was referred to Dr. Shlesinger by my general doctor. Front staff was fine, Dr. Shlesinger listened to me, asked questions, and began my treatment. When one of the meds didn't seem to help, I let him know. Most of the population sees relief from said meds but it made me worse! He worked with me on figuring out a new treatment. They are argumentative, lack empathy and the need for urgency (Except for one, long blonde hair)! They have absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS nor etiquette. They are SO RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, defensive, disorganized, rarely answer phones, and do not take any accountability with their unknowings. They clearly don't know what they are doing, especially handling or understanding patients needs and concerns. The office manager apparently is one of the Dr.'s wife's, Nava. My question for you is, if you are consistently receiving complaints from patients, wouldn't you think that it's an internal problem. We were given a brain for a reason and apparently common sense was left out. Communication across the board is horrendous. They blame patients for their lack of. They never send referrals correctly, so good luck if you are trying to get blood lab work done and any other appointments you need to make. But wait! It's "MY fault-now MY problem"-that the referrals were never sent or the lab referral is incorrect. I need to take the NorCal staff side and why believe the phlebotomist lab? It is the lab that didn't order the right panel for blood! Because they so know what kind of blood work I need. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!! Stupidity at its finest. I got an appointment a week before and gave the dob and other details. Two days before I received a call confirming my appointment. When I went for the appointment leaving my job and taking off from school they told me they cannot see kids that are young and the receptionist told me she gave me a call the day before and left a voice message. But I received none. I asked her am I fool to come in the morning if I would have received any message and she had no answer. I was referred to Dr. Shlesinger from my primary care Dr. and after reading reviews I was a little hesitant, but my appointment turned out to be just great. Yes I waited a bit in the waiting room, but I don't know any office where this isn't the case and I don't mind waiting for a good doctor. He spent what seemed like an hour explaining osteoporosis to me and what my options were. I never once felt like he was rushing me nor did I feel like any of my questions were dumb ones. Dr. Shlesinger preformed a needle biopsy on my wife's gigantic tumor without any anesthetic. Twice. After stabbing her repeatedly with a large biopsy needle he told her she didn't have cancer and it was all in her head. He was very condescending. When we got the results of the biopsy we were told it was benign. Luckily we got a second opinion. She did have cancer and needed surgery and radiation. Thanks for nothing, Dr. Shlesinger! read more

If I could give a zero star I would. A few years back I went to Dr. Shlesinger to treat my hypothyroidism. I repeatedly complained of abdominal problems and what I thought might be intestinal blockages. Coincidently the pain in my abdomen always seemed to act up whenever the dosage of my synthroid was changed. My abdominal pains were getting worse and I complained to Dr. Shlesinger several times about it. As a medical doctor I had hoped he could refer me to someone. He never did refer me out, but he did go so far as to suggest that my abdominal problems might be physiological i.e., it could all be in my head. I left his office very discouraged. To make a long story short, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian cancer. Had Dr. Scheslinger listened to me he could have referred me to a gastroenterologist, or other appropriate medical person. Instead he did nothing except to say it might all be in my head which in fact I was describing to him the classic symptoms of ovarian cancer. He should have at least ordered a CA125 blood test. Dr. Shelsinger practices medicine with blinders on. He does not have the ability to think outside the box nor does he does have the ability to listen and help his patients. If he had simply listened to my complaints and referred me to another physician, I would not have ended up with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and I would not have had to spend most of 2012 in John Muir Hospital. I do not like leaving bad reviews, but if my story can help one person, can help save one life, then it's all worth it. My cancer doctors have urged me to inform Dr. Schleinger, but knowing him it would not make any difference. I'm not looking for an apology, I am hoping he will change and listen more carefully to his patients and not tell them or suggest what they are feeling might be all in their head. That is a tragedy. He should be able to work with other doctors in other areas of the medical field, so I urge anyone thinking about seeing this doctor or maybe you are currently seeing him and having a problem, PLEASE, PLEASE get a second opinion! I don't like giving bad reviews. This is my 2nd one out of the 30 I have given. I'm just going to go into the basics here. My experience is not worth the time or effort. Last week my appointment was for 9:15. I arrived at 9:05. There were 4 people ahead of me. I was finally placed in an exam room at 10:05. He came into the room at 10:20. He looked through my lab work and said I was fine..my metabolism is just broken. Never mind that my TSH was very low (barely within the range ), never mind that I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance years ago and my symptoms are back and hard to manage, never mind that I was on Synthroid years ago as well. I have a history of thyroid cancer in my family so I have to stay vigilant with my thyroid health. He only ordered a free T4 and TSH. No free T3. He didn't order additional tests based upon my symptoms, he didn't ask for details on my cycle, etc. Just "Your numbers are fine you're broken." He's an Endocrinologist. He's the one that is supposed to be digging deeper to try to find the issue. Essentially I left in tears. I felt devalued and quite frankly as if I had been gas-lit. I am now under the care of Dr. Peter Linfoot in Lafayette. GO see him if you want to be taken seriously and treated with dignity and not just a range of lab numbers! POOR customer service. Follow-ups on bloodwork results are near to impossible. I have called 5+ times with out a response back. I tried coordinating getting a lab slip and bloodwork done before my visit (as an existing patient) and after 6 attempts, I gave up. I now know that one of the meds I was taking is useful for only 3-5 years; after that it can't do anything more for you. And how long had I been taking it? Twelve years. No one had paid attention. Also, the last time I needed to have prescriptions refilled, I put in a request one month before they were due to expire because I knew how slow that office is to respond. Even so, I was off my meds for three weeks before the refills came through. Seven weeks to OK refills. One time I was put on an antibiotic that I since learned is never to be given to patients over 65, and I was well past that limit. The result was a rash that covered me from scalp to toe; my dermatologist actually gasped when he saw me. But worst of all, what was diagnosed as a cyst turned out to be a hernia. I have been a patient of Dr. S for two years and he just moved to San Ramon (beautiful office). Always very friendly and great staff interaction. He really cares about you and takes the time to listen. When I leave his office, I always feel that I am under the best care. My diabetes has never been as controlled as when I started seeing him and now closer to my home in San Ramon. It is always a busy office when I come in but they are very efficient. Wait can be up to 20 minutes but worth it. I would highly recommend this office. read more

Dr. Shlesinger is fine. He seemed to be humoring me most of the time, but he at least listened and attempted to help. My biggest complaint is how his office is run. Rarely does anyone answer when you call and you are lucky if they call you back when you do leave a message. They never got back to the pharmacy after repeated faxed requests and three phone calls from me. I had to have my primary refill the prescription. I tried to get bloodwork done and they said they would only fax it to the lab- not give it to me- so i waited for 1.5 hrs with my 2 year old at the lab only to find out that it never arrived. Between the prescription fiasco, the botched labwork, and the impossibility of actually talking to someone and getting a response; I've decided to find a new Endocrinologist. I am surprised by the previous reviews. I have seen Dr. Shlesinger for almost a year. I was first seen for thyroid nodules and he was the one who found my cancer. His office was extremly helpful in setting up surgery for me and then radiation and I have been following with him ever since. Never have I had issues and I only have the highest respect for Dr. Shlesinger's knowledge, compassion and bedside manners. His office is just great. We have seen Dr. S for several years and do not recognize he, or his staff, in these reviews. We are not naive being ages 79 and 80 with a number of years of serious medical problems and a variety of physicians in various specialties.
