I went to my appointment on 12/1/25 and went to check in with the receptionist when the lady sitting at the desk behind the receptionist stated very angrily that my appointment was cancelled. I let the receptionist know I confirmed my appointment and that I received an OK. After showing the receptionist the text thread, She stated to the lady sitting at the desk that I did indeed confirm my appointment to which the angry lady replied "I never received it". The receptionist stated she would look into seeing if I could be seen still and I asked to use the restroom while she checked to see if the Doctor would see me. When I returned to the front desk-the receptionist was explaining to me how important it was for me to confirm my appointments as soon as I receive the text. I simply replied how I had been in meetings all day ( mind you this was the day before Thanksgiving, and I was already stressed because it was my 1st year to host Thanksgiving), and the receptionist replied with "we don't know that your in meetings". As soon as I was going to apologize to the receptionist, the angry lady sitting at the desk tries to start going off on me and I put my hand up to stop her. I then looked at the receptionist and stated " I'm good" and I left the office. Yesterday I received a letter from this office telling me that Dr. Temkin can no longer see me due to my behavior between his office. Not once did I raise my voice nor did I say anything rude. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR unless you want to be spoken to poorly by the staff. Mind you the receptionist was very kind and professional. However-the lady that does the scheduling-GET RID OF HER. BTW-because of this lady I wouldn't have set foot back there anyway. So they wasted a stamp . I still have the text with all of the confirmations showing I confirmed my appointment and asking her not to cancel my appointment and that I did in fact confirm my appointment. Very sad! read more

JUNE 2023 - DO NOT WORK WITH DR. TEMKIN or LEAN MD in San Ramon, CA. The front office staff is incompetent and Dr. Tempkin never speaks to patients or returns calls. THIS OFFICE IS HORRIBLE. I cancelled my account with Jenni at the front desk on March 3, 2023 and then executed a DocuSign, via email. Between March 3 - June 2, Lean MD has continued to charge my credit card $69.00 week (every Friday) despite having the written executed cancellation contract. Since March 3rd, I have been working with my credit card fraud department to get the charges stopped and credited back to my account. I've had to order a new credit card and have SQUARE removed as it is their billing vehicle. In addition, I've spoken to Jenni, Kai, and Genevieve by phone/email to reiterate the cancellation of my account (in writing) on March 3. To no avail. Clearly Dr. Tempkin and his staff have no regard for their patients and value a weekly revenue stream over integrity and ethics. To conclude, Since March 3, I have been charge $69.00 for 13 week = $897.00 which is unauthorized and fraudulent on the part of Dr. Tempkin and LEan MD. If you have unlimited financial resources, and value being lied to and taken advantage of, then Lean MD is for you. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Went in for my annual physical in 2022. I did the blood work 4 days prior to the appointment. I live in OR and was trying to get a local PCP in Klamath Falls so this was in transition. Therefore when i make the 5.5 hours drive I try to group things together when I go. The bloodwork was not there when I got there. The ekg results where never posted in his "required" John Muir site. Then he sends me a bill for $400+ for a physical that I never received, and to top it off another $543 for the blood work (my medical is the affordable Obama Care). This is a long pending review that I have been meaning to write for over 6 months now. I have always struggled with weight fluctuations. With that came a whole lot of other issues like PCOS, hormonal imbalances, low energy, high triglycerides etc etc. That's when I discovered LeanMD and started the program with Dr Temkin's team (specifically Kayoko). At first it may seem like a standard calorie deficit diet program. When you combine that, with regular exercise, low carb diet, their supplements and weekly accountability check ins, it makes all the difference. I went from 160lbs down to 136lb in my first 12 months. Then took a break due to travel and other engagements and I was able to sustain the weight loss with slight increase of 3lbs(I have been eating regular diet/not on low carb). I had a appointment a couple of weeks ago my appointment was at 8:30 and asked to be there by 8:15 , I ran into bad traffic and arrived at 8:24 the staff was very rude and told me that they couldn't do the complete physical because I was 8 minutes late. Over the 20 years of being a patient of dr Temkin I have had to wait for him to see me many many times an never complained. His staff was extremely rude and didn't care. Dr. Temkin is a not only a most capable physician, but also one that attends his patients with particular attention to his/her overall health care. You may see him for a stomachache, yet he will consider every potential cause that could be affecting that specific illness. For that he will perhaps ask you many questions, yet he will truly listen to every word you say in reply. So, you will not leave his office with just a prescription for an antacid, or a pain killer, but with the feeling that you can trust any recommendation or treatment he might think for aiding your health beyond a stomach discomfort. Because I have academic training in biochemistry and microbiology, I am somehow able to follow the way he is approaching the specific symptoms I may present when I go to see him. And invariably he gets to the root of the problem, something that is usually beyond the symptoms. Such is his philosophy as a physician; and that has been my experience of being his patient for nearly 20 years. I am 82 years old, and in good health, in part thanks to Dr. Temkin's care. One last word. Don't get confused about Dr. Tempkin having a DO after his name instead of MD. Both are parallel forms of medicine practice. I was charged for a no show appointment. I had a 7:45 AM appointment which I completely forgot. The staff called me at 7:50 AM to remind me. There was no other reminder SMS or email sent. I said I could make it in the next 10 mins. To my surprise the staff said they cannot accommodate me and charged me $100. This is really the worst experience I have had with my 4 years in San Ramon where the staff are so rude and cannot be accommodative of even a 15 minutes delay. My initial impression upon calling Mr Temkin's office was very favourable, I have a trapped nerve in my neck that I was searching for Osteopathic treatment for and the woman I spoke to was able to get me a next day appointment! If you've ever been in this amount of nerve pain before you know how crucial time is. My intention was to alleviate some of the pain so that it is close to tolerable, while I begin investigating through traditional allopathic routes with an M.D. I very specifically confirmed on the phone that this appointment would be for Osteopathic treatment, and although I was told that, yes he does do osteopathic manipulation, the answer was evasive enough to make me concerned. I'm grateful for the previous Yelp reviewer who unfortunately found out first hand about this. Very disappointed that the seemingly nice receptionist yesterday tried to take advantage of someone in pain. Called back and cancelled the appointment after the person I spoke to today said "No, he does not do osteopathy". Very frustrating to be given the run around when I'm in such pain but at least I'm not lining his pockets after being brought there with the promise of a lie. Very displeased with this Dr and his office. I went in to get some insight on why I had been feeling depressed and ways I could try to fix what was going on. When seeing Dr. Temkin all he said was I can give you medication other than that I can't really help you. I try my hardest not to take medications unless its absolutely necessary, which I told him. He continued to push the medication side of things and said he doesn't deal with alternative ways to help me. The appointment lasted a mere 5 minutes and I walked away with no professional insight or help--just a bill for $200. Dr. Temkin has been my medical doctor for close to a year now. I always thought that he and his staff were nothing but professional and I was always grateful for the services I received especially the accommodations he made for me during the COVID pandemic! So, it came with great surprise when I spoke to the front desk and was told that "it's best that you find another doctor, Dr. Temkin believes that you wrote him a bad yelp review". I was in complete SHOCK AND DISBELIEF!!! I tried to explain to the front desk before even reading the Yelp review that I have never written a Yelp review in my life and this must be a misunderstanding (if you can see this is my first Yelp review despite having had this account since 2011). I came on Yelp and noticed that someone with the SAME INITIALS as I wrote a bad review! But, despite calling the office 2-3 times, I was never scheduled for an appointment or given the opportunity to explain that I am NOT the one that wrote a bad review. I continue to be in disbelief that I was DROPPED as a patient, for a misunderstanding!!! Especially since I HAD ALREADY PRE-PAID FOR 2 MORE APPOINTMENTS!!! I was a "patient" for about a month with Dr. Temkin. I shared with him, his office staff my rare medical condition and how I was nervous in starting the weight loss program. BTW paid up front for the service. I unfortunately was only able to complete about 3 weeks of my 12 weeks program, because my body could not handle the program. Instead of LISTENING to my concerns and really trying to understand or be empathetic, they just wanted my money. I had to stop the program, and did not even offer a pro rated credit. Goes to show me that offices like this are only out for your money. My recommendation to anyone exploring this as an option, do not do it! They do not listen. They are money makers. They don't care about your health. Talk to your own GP first before going to any weight loss clinic. Funny how the tables turn when you are a "patient" they are nice as they can be, but the minute something does not work, you become a bother. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I have to say first, that I physically feel better after seeing Dr. Temkin. However, as a specialist (with perimenopause/menopause and weight loss) with a VERY busy office, charging substantial amounts of money to women in the Tri-Valley area, I would send a cautionary tale. If you are not one to advocate for yourself and you blindly follow the medical advice of "experts"---don't go here. In my experience, he is slightly to very condescending to women and has a pretty crummy bedside manner. Women in general , in perimenopause/ menopause are in a vulnerable spot -weight gain, lack of sleep mood swings, depression, anxiety. There is very little good information out there for women and this male doctor, no matter how many women he has seen-cannot (and he does not btw) empathize. Doesn't get it. Dr. Temkin was extremely condescending to all of my questions and inquiries (and I have done a LOT of research in advance and seen several other docs). In the past few years since seeing Dr. Temkin, as my physician. I have never felt better about be well taken care of with my health and well being. My seeing him and his staff have given me self-confidence that I could change my direction to a healthier me. Thank you Doctor. Alias it has come down to Insurance cost and as the cost of our family health plan has gone up by 18.1% each of the last three years with Blue Shield/Anthem PPO carriers. This year we have had to move over to Kaiser HMO plan to keep the cost down to last years prices. Wish us luck. I've been a patient of Dr Temkin's for about 1.5 years. I've seen him twice, both times for annual physicals. My second physical was in November of 2021. This poor review isn't about Dr Temkin as a doctor, but the office administration/billing. I went on Medicare for the first time November 1, 2021 and my physical was on November 5th. About two weeks ago I received a denial from Medicare for my physical due to improper coding. My wife who is retired spent over 20 years at a dental practice and understands all too well about billing practices. (also her father was an Internist for over 30 years and worked in her father's office while in school) She contacted medicare, explained the situation and got the proper code. She then called Dr Temkin's office and explained the wrong code was submitted to Medicare which was denied and gave the code to the office mgr. She wasn't very nice and completely NOT helpful standing firm that their office submitted the correct code. This impass put us in the middle of both Medicare and Dr Tempkin's office. I got involved and called the office mgr and within a short discussion she seemed to get incredulous the office submitted the wrong code. I explained (as my wife did) that the first time Medicare code was XYZ. A few minutes later I ended the conversation by saying, "You clearly don't want Medicare patients!" Of course she denied that was the case, but refused to move off her position or to help resolve this issue. I then told her she lost Dr Tempkin a patient and that I would pay the $230 out of my pocket and to remove me from their patient list. My advice to anyone considering Dr Temkin as their physician and you're on Medicare is STOP! DO NOT CONSIDER DR TEMPKIN AS YOUR NEW PHYSICIAN! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Temkin's for over 10 years and he is simply the best doctor I've ever had. I have a variety of medical issues and Dr. Temkin takes the lead on the overall management of my somewhat complicated care. He has an extremely pleasant demeanor and always takes the time to answer any and all questions. In addition, he also takes in what the patient has to say resulting in care that is collaborative rather than dictatorial in nature. His staff is beyond pleasant, professional, knowledgable, and EXTREMELY accommodating. But Dr. Temkin's true genius is his medical knowledge and insights. When I first started seeing him, I had a somewhat strange and as yet undiagnosed issue with my back. In less than 4 months, after taking into account my complete history coupled with his first-hand examinations, Dr. Temkin was able to provide new insights as to the root cause of my issues. I admit that, at the time, his insights did seem to be on the outside of probability and frankly, I put them aside. However, after more than 5 years and seeing at least 2 "specialists" as well as undergoing numerous other tests, Dr. Temkin was proven correct when his original insights were confirmed by the nation's top genetics team based at UCSF. Several months later, Dr. Temkin repeated this insightful ability when I went to see him in a moment of serious distress. In a very short amount of time and completely out of the blue, my mood and overall feeling of well being plummeted and I was extremely concerned something serious could be going on. Dr. Temkin's staff made the time to get me in and after taking one look at me, he was able to determine that I was suffering a relatively rare side effect from one of the medications I was taking. It is just this type of care and attention to patient's detail that make Dr. Temkin stand out in an environment that can arguably be described as one of the most medically dense regions in the US. The bottom line is that I would not trust my nor any family member's healthcare to anyone but Dr. Temkin. He is an amazing doctor and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. ### UPDATE on 01/25/19 ### After 6+ years and seeing some of the negative comments, I find an update is in order. First, my rating remains unchanged (5 stars) as this doctor is without exception one of the best I have ever encountered. Next, some key but requisite clarifications: OSTEOPATHY: At least one commenter seems to believe that DOs are not "true" medical doctors To be clear, this is unequivocally FALSE as DOs receive the same training as MDs. Both attend 4 years of medical school & perform internships, residencies and fellowships. However, a couple of actual differences are as follows: (A) DOs receive more advanced training re: the musculoskeletal system; (B) DOs study a different philosophy & approach to medical diagnosis & treatment. OSTEO-MANIPULATION (OMT): At least one commenter has criticized Dr. Temkin for not performing OMT. As with all treatments offered by a given practitioner, services are offered and performed strictly at the provider's discretion. As such, there is no legal nor professional requirement for any DO to offer any procedure\service be it OMT or otherwise. Therefore, no provider should be held to account and\or penalized solely for opting to not offer a given service or treatment. OVERCHARGING: As discussed above, DOs undergo the same training and are similarly licensed as MDs. They both (A) must pass board examinations; (B) are permitted to prescribe the same medications; (C) have similar continuing education and board licensure requirements; (D) receive the same coverage\reimbursements from patient insurance; (E) have the same operational & malpractice costs. Therefore, why anyone would expect a DO to magically charge less for their expertise and treatment is baffling. If you need to book a last minute appointment, Dr. Temkin's office can usually accommodate. I came back from my Thailand trip with an allergic reaction so I wanted to get everything checked out. While I was there, I had all of my questions ready for Dr. Temkin, but he was only able to give me very vague and general answers on how to treat my allergy. I also wanted to get my blood work done in the same day so I was sent over to the nearby lab which was only 5 minutes way -- very convenient! However, after my blood work results came in, the doctor's office called me to say that "labs all look great" and that was it. I asked for a copy to be sent to me and it's a good thing I did because I scanned through the paperwork and it turns out I am considered to have borderline high cholesterol. THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. I'm someone who exercises 4 times a week, I'm in the healthy BMI range, I've done the BodySpec DXA scan (breaks down your body region by region into fat, muscle, and bone) and it showed that I'm in the athletic range, I am mindful of my intake and don't eat processed foods, but I am bordering high cholesterol -- almost certain this is due to genetics. Dr. Temkin should have let me know so I can be proactive about my health, instead of giving me the generic "everything looks fine". Really disappointing and I will be looking for another physician who cares about helping me maintain/improve my health. read more

In search of a DO - as advertised by this doctor on the internet - I stumbled upon Dr. Temkin's name, although his office was about an hour drive from my house. I had heard good things about DOs in general from friends and I was very eager to see what doctor Temkin, a self proclaimed DO - as advertised - had to offer towards my health and well being! Within a few minutes into my conversation with Dr. Temkin, I was completely disappointed. His response was (despite the fact that he sells himself as a DO on the Internet), that he has a little bit of training as a DO, but he is really a family practitioner/Internist. I was truly dumbfounded and didn't know what to say! At the time of my visit, I had severe acid reflux problem among other issues and in dire need of immediate medical attention, but he seemed completely indifferent and for the next few minutes he completely wasted my time by telling me how he spends the first session of a new patient to just say hello and to talk about totally irrelevant matters! I have had many primary doctors through my life but Dr. Temkin and his staff are by far the best. They're are professional, attentive, caring, understanding and more. I cannot say how much I appreciate the medical care and advise I receive from Dr. Temkin and all of his staff. read more

The front desk staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional. They were talking down on the new company that I work for and even went as far as to say that I shouldn't work for them. The front desk ladies were also openly talking very negatively about a coworker that was not present. They were very rude and petty which has caused me to decide to not return to this Doctor in the future due to having such bad front staff. The doctor and his assistant were great, it's very unfortunate that their front staff acted the way they did. Hold your front staff to a higher standard if you want patients to return. read more
