When a place changes your life, it's hard to use stars and words to say how it has. Let me try. I've lived in Austin for 9 years, and have sampled quite a few studios. I've never found one that gave me everything I wanted -- then I came to Wanderlust. There could not be two better, happier, more welcoming faces to any business in town than Ashley and Jo. And they've surrounded themselves with an amazingly diverse group of instructors that teach some incredible classes. Quite simply, if you can't find a class you like here then you're not going to find a class you like anywhere. What else? There's the occasional rooftop class they offer, sometimes with live music (Michael Kiwanuka played a solo acoustic set one Saturday morning). They bring in DJs, hold workshops, and have classes ranging from 45 - 90 minutes. There's also a smoothie place attached (Blenders and Bowls), that solves all your post-class hunger issues. As for the benefits, they've been extraordinary. I go to Wanderlust to build strength (YoStrong with Jennifer is one of the best, toughest classes in the city), to some of the power classes for my flexibility (Ashley and Lauren's classes are incredible), and to some of the more gentle flow classes for my recovery (Kate and Jo are wonderful). I'm training for my 11th Ironman and have raced about 20 Half-Ironmans over the past 9 years, and my results since I began coming to Wanderlust have been my best ever. Outside my sport-specific training, I simply don't need to go anywhere else. One thing about some other reviews: I find it bizarre that people seem to gripe about the parking situation. Anything that happens in downtown Austin probably requires a search for a parking spot, and in the 14 months I have been a member (about 20 classes per month), I have NEVER had a problem. Quite the opposite, I think the location is one of the best things about Wanderlust. If it sounds like it's my favorite place in Austin, then I've written this the way I wanted to. Enjoy! read more

I joined for the week while in town for a conference - $55 for unlimited classes for a week. Apparently back home we do fake yoga, bc I'm not new to yoga and I am learning a whole new level here. The studio space is beautiful and they have nice clean equipment - meditation cushions, cork blocks, straps, etc. The locker room is well appointed with lockers that have locks built in, nice showers. They have a great filtered water bottle filling station. The whole place is just really nicely appointed. Blenders and Bowls in attached adding to the awesomeness. The instructors have been great. Clear, thorough instruction, and the three I've experienced so far are really approachable and kind. You will definitely be in the midst of people serious about yoga, but it's not intimidating even to someone like me whose not advanced. This place is my favorite thing about Austin. Makes me wish I lived here. read more

I went to the live music and yoga event at Wanderlust this weekend. The studio appears clean and the atmosphere is unique and cute. The rooftop is fantastic! What a great thing to have at a yoga studio. The volume of the music at the event was too low so I couldn't hear it. That kinda sucked because I paid $20 to hear this guy perform and it was the only reason I was at the event, but oohhh well. The main reason I'm giving this three stars is the yoga instruction. What a mess. It was closer to playing a game of Twister than practicing yoga. I kept getting lost when the instruction was "swing your left leg through in front of your face, wrap your left arm around the outside of your left leg, make a c-shape with your left hand and hold onto your left ankle, and wrap your right hand around the front of your left ankle". I'm sorry, what pose is that, and how am I supposed to hear ALL and make it happen without craning my neck around to see what someone else is doing? It gets even better when Frog Pose suddenly becomes "yogi squat" and you're supposed to just transition into Crow Pose by "place your hands in front of you and lift up putting your knees into your arm pits." The class went into places like binding, head stands, balancing inversions, and other complicated poses without any warning so you couldn't choose to take the pose or not...you had no clue of where the class was going. The two yogis on either side of me were lost too - I knew this when we shared looks of confusion/frustration multiple times during class. For the record, I've practiced yoga for 5 years. It's Monday and I'm still sore. Tomorrow I will visit the chiropractor and then I'm going back to CorePower. read more

I tried Wanderlust for a 30-day trial and wasn't disappointed. I attended a few classes and loved all but one of them. I'm not an experienced yogi but found the beginner class too much talk and not enough practice. I don't fault the studio for this, I signed up for it and if I were brand new to yoga I would have loved it. Vinyasa was wonderful and exactly what I was looking for. The instructor was friendly, helpful with alignment and very calming. Pros: - Beautiful space. - Friendly staff. - Welcoming environment (even for those who haven't practiced in awhile, like myself). - Wide variety of classes. - Helpful instructors. Cons: - Parking. Twice I went and couldn't find parking in time to make it to class. After the second time I had trouble finding parking (for evening and weekend classes) I e-mailed the studio and my concern was addressed within 12 hours letting me know of a nearby garage where I could park and that they'd validate my paid parking. This was my only concern about Wanderlust and when I contacted them about it, their prompt and friendly response immediately made it a non-issue. I look forward to continuing to attend classes at Wanderlust in the coming year. I found all of their staff from the front desk to the instructors nothing but friendly and welcoming. I. LOVE. WANDERLUST. This place has everything I have ever wanted in a studio, and I am a bit picky when it comes to where I go to find my zen. Attending donation studios became annoying after a while for two reasons: the cost of donating $10 every time was more expensive than just being a member at other places, and it was just too crowded sometimes. When I discovered Wanderlust through a friend, I immediately fell in love. The space is beautiful, clean, spacious, and relaxing. Their music is amazing, their locker room is clean, their rates are affordable (I do the unlimited month, student discount), and their teachers KNOW their stuff, and couldn't be sweeter. Another big problem I had with donation based studios was the lack of attention to individual students and also, after practicing for a few years, I just needed more of a challenge than the flow/sweaty classes were offering. Enter YoStrong: Wanderlust's answer to those who think yoga is "too easy" or "too boring" or "not enough of a workout." I challenge anyone who thinks this to attend ONE of these classes and not walk out drenched in sweat, feeling like you just got an incredible workout. I've become a huge fan of the yoga with weights class and even more so as I saw the changes in my body (toned arms, abs). Do yourself a favor and check this place out if you're looking for a studio that's got it all. I almost hate saying that because I wanted to keep this place my own little secret. Oh, one more thing: the acai bowls will blow your mind. read more

Hey, I just met you.. and this is crazy... ;) I came to Wanderlust Live from a Google Deal, and was really impressed! They've got a GREAT downtown space in the railyard district, and so far - I'm kind of in love. I walked in and saw the renovated space - it was done really well. The high ceilings, wooden floors, and cafe stools are really great looking - and the cafe smells delicious, too! The two yoga rooms I saw were fantastic as well. One is a smaller size (which was perfect for the lunch class I took), and the larger room has a stage in it for the LIVE piece. I spoke to some of the instructors and they've got some really cool events planned. Like, Hey, I want to drop all of my previous workout commitments and come here instead, good. Additional amenities: they've got lockers (with keys!) for you to store your stuff, showers, blow dryers, and a great clean bathroom. Oh, and it smells good, too. read more

I took Gustavo's warmed candlelight vinyasa and it was awesome. This review is kind of purely for Gustavo but Wanderlust as a whole is a cool space if you've never been inside. Lowdown: - I've done vinyasa flow classes many times before, but Gustavo's really kicked ass in the core work. If you want to get a great core workout done, go here! It was one of the most challenging vinyasa flows I've ever done. - Gustavo had SUCH a fun personality. At one point, mid plank, he teased and said "how you do one thing is how you do everything, how are you going to do this?" Ha! I love this guy. I've kept that in my head since for every other workout I'm doing. read more

I'm new to Yoga and have spent the past 6 weeks at Wanderlust learning the ropes. Like any beginner, I was intimidated by all of the new protocol, strange practices, terminology, and fit looking people. But I've found that this place is great for beginners IF (and only if) you can regularly make the basics classes with Leah or Collette (Gustavo is also good but doesn't do them regularly). I'm used to gyms and this is no gym. Wanderlust's locker rooms, showers, and studios are very nice and clean and the staff is positive and responsive. I haven't noticed any negativity or judgementalism towards beginners. Staff and fellow practitioners all interact with positivity and encouragement. There's always someone completely new to yoga in the basics classes so I've never felt out of my depth, even when I sometimes struggle to keep up. All in all, I highly recommend Wanderlust if you're looking to begin your practice. I started with the $39 for 30-day promotion and was able to attend 13 classes in that time. That comes out to about $9/class at their monthly unlimited rate of $120. This is one of the downsides to Wanderlust: it's expensive. The studios on the east side near my house are all under $100/month. So it may be cost-prohibitive for some people. It is very near that point for me. One other thing I would say is that the times I would most like to have classes during the week they are not offered. But clearly my desired schedule is probably not that of many other customers, otherwise they'd be offering classes at those times. That said, their class offerings are very deep and diverse compared to other studios I looked at. All in all, I highly recommend Wanderlust if it works for your pocketbook and schedule. read more

For me, the best yoga place I ever been to. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Specious, beautiful and clean. Let me be clear- if you like slow yoga, with easy movements and lots of "breathing" then this is not the place for you. Here- you will work hard and sweat like never before. I must say that I was one of the oldest persons in most of the classes, so if you are over 40, be sure you are fit and in a real shape if you want to follow these classes (specially yoga with weights). Most of the instructors are really young, and yes, some of them are behaving like class is boot camp and not yoga class. But that`s why this place is different. The only one complain I have would be about one instructor - her name is Jo who is by the way, excellent instructor, but she uses word exhale every 5 seconds and she keep saying Axhale, which is so annoying that I couldn`t go to her classes again. Please Jo- it`s EXHALE not AXHALE....If you are going to use the word for so many times, at least say it right. Other then that, most of the instructors are amazing. My favorite was Ashly. read more

Ummm... FINALLY. A yoga studio that delivers on everything I want/expect from a yoga studio. Exhibit A: Downtown location near my office and a parking lot that is rarely full. Exhibit B: Friendly front desk staff. When I come in for yoga I'm rarely in a 'good' mood. I come to get my Zen on... I don't often come with it already in place. These yogi-front-desk-peeps are attentive and don't need me to fake a good mood to check in (sidebar: seems like other yoga studios I've tried have a thing with front desk people who want me to be all sunny already!) Exhibit C: The space is rad. Real wood, high ceilings, adjustable lighting. It isn't overdone but they haven't overlooked anything - the changing rooms have full showers, lockers WITH KEYS (wahoo!), a blow dryer, etc. etc. BUT... the real reason I could be bothered to write is this: They have THE BEST YOGA CLASSES in town. In yoga, as in life, it always comes back to leadership and I am so so soooo grateful to Wanderlust not for their location, space or front desk staffers... but for their teachers. Vinyasa is one of my favorite forms of yoga because of the fast pace and flow of the class. Next time you want to try out a yoga studio, I would absolutely recommend going to Wanderlust. They lived up to every expectation I had, and I left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated! read more

Took the Sat 12 pm heated Vinyasa flow class and would definitely go back. The instructor who's name escapes me, played Ray Charles... Let me repeat... Ray Charles. How about that for not taking yourself too seriously! Good & sweaty. We were only bummed that the rental towels had sold out before we turned up for our drop-in class ($18 + $1 for mat rental). Next time we'll be staying for the on premises acai bowls. read more

I've been to three yoga classes so far and am really happy with the level of expertise, fun and yes, lustiness of the yoga teachers I've encountered. "Lustiness" in the German sense of the word, as in you can tell they really like what they do. The womens' locker room is clean, they have nice, private showers, and I love the convenient lockers. I had a generous sample of the acai bowl during the DANA Downtown Living Tour and it was as delish as acai can be. The cafe has always been busy the few times I've been which is a good sign. The yoga and hoops sesh on Saturdays rocked! I can't believe how easy it is to hoop...it's not at all like hula hoops of old. I felt so limber and light afterwards. I will be back! read more

BEST yoga in Austin, Texas, hands down. I was NOT a "yogi" (more of a CrossFit type) prior to Wanderlust-but they have something for every type of fitness/workout personality (from Yin and stretching-based classes, to Power Yoga or Yo Strong for Type A's like myself :)). I LOVE this community and they've become like my family. Power Yogas in particular with Diana Wilcox and Lauren Loy are not to be missed! Diana pushes you to go to your "just right edge" and grow--not stay stagnant...and Lauren Loy is CHALK FULL of wisdom, inspiration and encouragement, along with a really FUN (different) flow every time. I could go on about the other amazing teachers (Gustavo, Lauren Brown, Amelia, Lizzie, Zoe, etc.)...and you seriously will NOT be disappointed when you come here to "Om", reflect, grow or disconnect from whatever is happening outside the door. read more

Went to Wanderlust for the first time today - they were running a special of free classes. It was awesome! Kate was the instructor and she explained EVERY step in its entirety, which helps those of us who don't do yoga all the time. I absolutely loved it and I will definitely go back. I hope all the instructors are as good as Kate! As other yelpers have stated, parking is a bit of a nightmare, but it's downtown Austin, so what do you expect? read more

His direction is a nice even flow with descriptive verbal position adjustments. He walks the room to assist in alignment with encouraging words. Holy Adho Mukha Svanasana, Batman! This place is great! I love traditional yoga music but the fact that they use more current music during their practices as well is very refreshing. I took one flow class and was instantly hooked. It was a heated class at 85 degrees so when you add everyone else's body heat to that it got pretty warm at times. Afterwards, though, I felt like I had really gotten a good stretch and was very relaxed. I also took the YoStrong class and I have to say it wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it was interesting. It was hotter (95 degrees) and I didn't see that it incorporated a lot of actual yoga poses; mostly we just worked with hand weights. Word to the wise, make sure you over hydrate for YoStrong. It got so hot and we did so much that a lot of students (including myself) had to step out for some fresh air. Another cool thing they have is a Blenders and Bowls right inside the lobby. After class grab an acai bowl and you will feel like a whole new (healthy) person. read more

I live out of town and had been to Wanderlust once before about a year ago and had a really positive experience. Yesterday I went to Bittersweet happy hour yoga yesterday with Jerrrrrryyyyyyy. I love the ambiance of the studio and the vibe. The people are friendly and not intimidating. I'm more of a runner and go to Orangetheory but yesterday was just what I needed. The positions were held for a long time but Jerry's humor was entertaining and distracting (in a good way) while the body stretched so good. read more

A 30 day membership really helped me get back into a balanced lifestyle and served as a therapeutic daily getaway. They have a variety of classes and times, which is nice for my flexible schedule. Wanderlust Studio has it all: a clean, beautiful, airy studio, excellent instructors, great vibes AND even a Cafe. I truly love this studio!!! Jo and Ashley, the owners, radiate joy and positive energy to everyone who enters their studio. They are both extremely personable and so appreciative to every person that walks in the door. I appreciate how Wanderlust puts a great emphasis on the fitness component of yoga and not just what the correct pose is, but how anyone at any level can achieve that pose and get the benefits, not just sweat pointlessly twisting and bending. I highly recommend Wanderlust to all levels of yogis. You feel like part of a family when you enter/exit the studio. Over the past month, I fully utilized a new membership. I took nearly every class available at least once (i.e., Yoga Basics, Yin and Restore, Power Vinyasa (heated), Candlelight Vinyasa (warmed), Bittersweet, Vinyasa (warmed), Mindful Flow and Meditation, and a workshop). My all-around favorite was the Power Vinyasa (heated). Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Austin Wanderlust: The Good The $39 starter membership that allows yogis to take unlimited classes for 30 consecutive days. This is the most generous "intro deal" I've seen anywhere. The classes are taught by competent instructors who use a regular routine, mixed up a bit depending on who is teaching. Bittersweet classes by Jerry are excellent alignment classes to complement the classes that are more focused on getting your heart rate up and generating sweat! There are some great series deals to save money. The Bad Only two of the 30 classes I took spent any concentrated time on core/abs. While all poses use core, it's really critical to work on core specifically to build strength so that the rest of the poses are easier to achieve and maintain. Wanderlust is the only studio I've been to in 10 years of practice that lacked dedicated core time in nearly all of their classes. There were fewer than 1/3 of the classes that incorporated time for inversions as well, which was disappointing. The regular drop-in rate for classes is a bit high for the area at $25 per class. It can be VERY clique-y. I like yoga for it's inclusiveness and balance. That often was thrown off by the "insider" vibe of the place. The Ugly The parking downtown is horrendous so getting to the studio on time will cost you in either parking lot fees or in time. I've occasionally found street parking ($1.80 if you can get there within 15 minutes of the class you're taking). Lot parking is all-but guaranteed, but it's expensive. And if you can't find parking, look forward to missing your spot and being charged for the class. I've tried leaving my house earlier too. I live 5 miles away and have left up to an hour early to drive around downtown in hopes of finding a free spot on 6th St or a street meter - an hour of driving around in circles or paying for a lot space are unacceptable just to go to a yoga class. One instructor was texting during shavasana and then abruptly left us there without any real "end" to the class. We were in shavasana for what seemed like a long time without any instruction or comment. I looked up and the instructor was texting on her phone. She did this for quite a long time, then walked silently over to the door, told us we could stay there as long as we wanted, said "namaste" and left. No customary end. I thought maybe she had an emergency, but then saw her hanging out in the office and walking around. Two instructors have left us in shavasana without an "end" but only one was texting during the class. Very unprofessional in both cases. Bottom Line: The classes are good, but the cost of drop-in classes and the parking situation make this really only an option if you live downtown or can attend the 6a, 7a, or 8:30p classes (outside of meter/traffic time) and have excessive disposable income. Favorite instructors: Ferny & Jerry (they both focus on core and inversions and are kind and very good at engaging and encouraging students). read more

All I can say is YOBODY CLASS. Love love love it. If I didn't now have ClassPass, I would get a monthly membership here just for that class. The new student special is a raging deal - highly recommend doing that; it's a great value. Only con of this place is parking. Luckily I work from home so I was able to schedule my classes around when I thought I might get parking, but either you have to get there at 5PMish to get a spot in the back or else you're paying for parking and possibly walking far (even the validated parking I still had to pay a dollar or two each time). The parking adds up if you're taking a class 5 times a week and especially since membership ain't cheap either. I do love how Blenders + Bowls is inside the studio even though I've only gotten it once. read more

This is an all around fantastic studio. The instructors are all top notch, and they've really helped to elevate my practice mentally and physically from casual to committed. The space itself is gorgeous, and the addition of blenders and bowls + locker rooms with showers makes the experience all the better. My only gripe is the diversity of classes. I wish there were a couple more options for non-sweaty non-weight classes - particularly a shorter class during the lunch hour...if you can do a sweaty class during lunch you probably aren't rushing to get back to work. read more

I took a tour of this facility while I was in Austin for a wedding. I am not a "Yogi" per say but I've dabbled in yoga before and am interested in dabbling again. This studio is awesome. Allegedly they have live music here at times and the rooftop portion of the studio looks legit. When I'm back in Austin I'm taking a class here for sure. I even had one of their smoothies at the cafe portion at the entrance. It was uber tasty. Wil update when I take a class but you have to love the feel of Wanderlust Yoga! read more

I shopped around for awhile to find the best yoga studio in Austin and this is it. This studio attracts top talent for teachers and has a great variety of classes. To break it down further... you must take a class taught by Gustavo. His sequences are unique and challenging. He always has a thoughtful positive message. You are one of his classes away from a great mood. I also love Jerry's classes. I learn so much from each one. He makes you laugh during the painful poses. Honestly every teacher is great. I know other reviewers did not like the lack of adjustments and focus on form. I haven't noticed that, especially in the slower classes. The fast paced ones don't have as much of that but they do have people who come in just for adjustments and they are all great! There is a type of class for everyone from intense (YoStrong) to yin. The cool lavender tools at the end make suffering through the hard moments worth it. I recommend checking this place out. Pro tip: order a bowl at Blenders and Bowls to be ready after class. I came to Austin for the weekend and dropped in to Wanderlust for an AMAZING class--Jerry's Friday evening Bittersweet Yoga. What a fantastic restorative class! Jerry is a wonderful teacher, with a great sense of humor, coupled with kind and informative instruction. He gave me some much needed personal attention during the class as a newbie, and I was grateful for that extra assistance. I really appreciated how this class opened up my back and hips, and it was unique and very enjoyable. If I lived in Austin, I would totally join this studio just to take this class each week! I'm totally going back whenever I'm in town. The space is beautiful, and everyone--staff and patrons--was super friendly. The vibe is very inclusive and I felt comfortable there immediately. There is a clean dressing area with free lockers, too, which is very convenient. I love that they have cork yoga blocks as well--so much better than foam (they also have foam, if you prefer that). The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 was that the floor wasn't as clean as I would have liked--my feet and mat got dirty, and I hate that. (This doesn't happen to me at the super-immaculate studios I normally attend in DFW area.) However, I bet that was an anomaly, and it certainly would not stop me from coming back to benefit from the outstanding instruction I experienced.
