He has helped me on two separate occasions. The first occasion was a regularly scheduled visit that included some outside painting (a railing and window shutters), in addition to loosening recessed light bulbs that needed to be replaced. (My husband and I had tried to unscrew the light bulbs, but without success). Joe's second visit resulted from an emergency request, on a Friday afternoon, to help me with a window that had partially fallen off its frame. As a result, I couldn't close the window. Although he was in the middle of another job when I called about my window problem, he said he would stop by my house as soon as he finished up at the earlier job. And when the earlier job took longer than he anticipated, he informed me about the delay and texted me when he was on his way. He fixed my window in short order. I was completely satisfied with all his work. Joe is a friendly, positive, "no nonsense," "can do" kind of guy you can rely on. He knows what he's doing, he doesn't waste time, he's responsive to your questions, his prices are fair, and he cleans up when he's finished. A great find! I had to install a TV mount, and had tried myself and failed soundly. After seeing the reviews on Yelp, I thought I'd give Yu a try. He picked up and talked to me at length about the TV mount with my particular strange pre-war plaster/drywall, before even setting an appointment. Yu said he thinks he could install the TV and gave a very reasonable price (lowest I've seen online). So I went ahead, and scheduled an appointment. When he arrived, he took his time to make sure the mount and everything was level, made sure the wall would support the TV (a 60" 75 lb plasma), and figured out the best way to install it. He installed the mount, and...it wouldn't hold the TV. The mount itself was too weak to hold it and sagged, even though it was rated at 115lbs. Ouch. I offered to pay him, he absolutely did his job, but he actually figured out that connector part of the extensible mount could be detached and serve as a more solid mount. He undid the prior installation, and installed that mount, and the TV is hanging perfectly. He didn't ask for more money, but he did such an excellent job, I had to pay a little extra. At all times, he was pleasant, patient, and totally professional. I literally signed up to Yelp to give this review. 100% recommended! read more

Joe installed a security system for my entire apartment complete with video and audio. I can view and hear from each of my camera sites on my flat TV screen. I can search and back up on my computer these past events and store them on flash drives or disks..My audio is crisp and clear.His wiring was done neatly, and inconspicuously. His work area during installation was orderly and unobtrusive, His manner while working was calm yet deliberate. My cameras are strategically set up in full view to encourage deference while providing the evidence for arrest. I am a man with a disability who is dependent upon home health aides for my activities of daily living. Joe's security system allows me to monitor their work and behavior when my disability prohibits me from doing so. Joe's set up also allows my son who does not live with me to monitor my situation letting him know my whereabouts and condition while my aides have gone for the day. I hired Joe to repair a bedroom ceiling that had water damage and a number of smaller household repairs -door knob replacements, kitchen tile and door hinge repairs, tacking down linoleum on stairs,caulking and light switch replacement. Joe did a fantastic job on the ceiling and it looks brand new. He fixed all other items to my satisfaction and exceeded my expectations. Joe gets the job done quickly and is efficient and professional. He is upfront and honest about what jobs he can take on or not which I greatly appreciated. He also wants customers to be completely satisfied with all of the work so he asks for feedback and makes corrections if needed along the way. He gets the job done right the first time so there is no need to come back unless it is a new job to work on! His prices per job and his hourly rate are reasonable. I found Joe to be very easy to work with and he is also pleasant and friendly which is a plus in my book! I had a bird nest under my air-conditioner. They were waking me up every morning; I couldn't take it anymore. I had to call a couple times, but eventually got Joe to help me. I had plastic bird spikes I wanted installed, and also bird tape. I was kind of worried about how I'd nail in the bird spikes. Joe came ready with his ladder, and was able to provide good advice and perform excellent work. Firstly, he advised about how the tape eventually gets worn out, ratty and old due to the sun, which is a great point I didn't think of, so I avoided having disgusting tape hanging from my window. Also, he was able to avoid nailing the bird spikes altogether. He used some very good fasteners and wrapped them around some outer grill parts of my air conditioner in a manner that was completely safe and efficient. He installed the bird spikes flawlessly, and also thoroughly cleaned out the nest for me. Now I can sleep till 7am, as opposed to 5:30am. Thank you Joe. Yu solved my plumbing crisis quickly, professionally and best of all - at a very reasonable price! On the day before a three week business trip my shower stopped working, leaving my new housemate in need and me frantically cold calling plumbers. After a half dozen calls and an after-hours quote of $650, I was on the verge of having to cancel my trip in order to find a reasonable solution to the problem. Yu was the only plumber who called back quickly and gave me an accurate idea of what time he could fit me in. He asked detailed questions and requested photos so he could access the situation ahead of time - really reassuring. Despite a long day already behind him, Yu offered to come out to my apartment at 10:00pm, if it wasn't too late for me. Within the hour he had figured out the issue and solved the problem - and the charge: only $100!! I don't look forward to any future plumbing issues but if they arise I know I'll be calling Yu - I really can't recommend him highly enough! read more

We had a pretty complicated series of jobs and considered getting a contractor but in the end decided to try a handyman. We're glad we did and thrilled that we found Joe. He put together a number of pieces of Ikea furniture: bed, dresser, tables, chairs and had the equipment and know-how to resolve problems that came up (like cutting the legs of the bed to reduce the height). He installed a door, took out another door, installed a shower rod, and took out a complicated built-in shelf. He was careful, highly skilled, and thorough in all of his work. Equally important, Joe was courteous, responsive, and he worked around our schedule to get the job done. He also worked with us on the price and made sure to let us know ahead of time if there was a better way to do something that would save us money or if a particular task wasn't cost-effective to do in the way we had considered. I have used Joe Yu's handyman service on several occasions. The work that Joe performed has ranged from painting my bedroom and spare room, installing an overhead light fixture, removing a light fixture, installing doors, and just most recently installing (3) A/C units in the apartment. I must say that I have not had the best of luck with these types of services in the past. However, Joe Yu is a different kind of handyman. He is honest, professional, responsive, efficient, courteous, prompt, knowledgeable and best of all, reasonably priced. He does not and would not overcharge you for services rendered as other services/handymen might. I am glad that I found Yu's Handyman Services and I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone that needs to have something done. Joe spent hours working on it but it couldn't be saved since the HD was on it's way out. He was very thorough, patient and truly put great effort in trying to save. He also didn't charge us a dime as he felt he didn't deliver a working machine, this was extremely appreciated. His diagnosis was correct and we were able to ultimately get it repaired under warranty. Recently we had a new fan installed and an existing fan had a new switch put it. We made an appointment & he arrived on time. He measured the doorway & gave us an estimate. Within a couple days, he was here installing the door. He is honest, efficient & affordable. I recently helped by son and his wife move into a new apartment in Brooklyn New York. We needed a handyman and Joe came to our rescue!! He came at 9:00 AM and did not stop working until 6 PM. Joe is amazing, he installed window treatments, did some minor plumbing, rebuilt a bathroom cabinet to fit in a small apartment, installed lighting, properly installed floating shelves and a floating desk (hiding all the wiring for a clean modern look). Joe is phenomenal! I needed immediate help with a leak in my bathroom. Unfortunately my bathroom sink basin was not properly aligned when initially installed which later caused the pipe to become disconnected and resulted in a leak/flood. Joe quickly assessed the issue and explained in plain terms what was need to be done to correct both issues and he returned with all parts and reinstalled the basin and changed the pipes and did a few additional items to ensure the issue would not resurface in the future. Highly recommended. I had two antique french doors that needed to be hung in an existing interior entryway that was neither plumb nor square. Joe and his assistant expertly hung the doors, making small modifications and adjustments so that they would line up perfectly when closed. They were respectful of the age of the doors and the molding around the entryway, and only made cuts / screwholes where they were absolutely sure they needed to be. Very polite, took a few hours, and charged me exactly what was quoted over the phone. Will definitely be using again for other projects around the house. read more

I cannot recommend Joe more highly. He installed two new ceiling light fixtures for me (removing a tricky and ancient fluorescent thing first), hung a bunch of curtains, and mounted a mirror/hook contraption to the wall. He did this over two visits; I hired him for the lighting stuff after seeing what good work he had done on the curtains. He arrived a little early both times (one of which was over the July 4th weekend), and came prepared with a truck equipped with every tool he could possibly have needed. His prices were very fair. Joe fixed my bathroom there was a huge hole in the floor he repaired it and it came out new and really nice, there was no odor, and it came out really really neat and pretty. Joe also fixed a kitchen draw that was broken for the longest time.Also replaced a door in my children's room that came out great. He is dependable, honest and hard working. Thank you Joe! This was my first time having Joe do work in my apartment and I was beyond satisfied! I found out about him through a Living Social deal and asked him to patch/plaster some holes in my bathroom wall from a previous electric job. He was clear and concise about what he was doing and asked me intermittently if I was satisfied with his work and I most definitely was! I'm having him come back to install a bi-fold louvere door for a closet in my second bedroom. I would highly recommend him. So far so good....I contracted with Mr. Yu to do several repairs in my home. The most urgent was repair of the bar in the closet (all my clothes fell down!). When he came to give me the estimate he said he would fix the closet the same day. He came back, fixed the closet and also replaced the toilet paper holder that was attached to tile. He did this with a minimum deposit and it saved me a lot of grief looking for clothes to wear to work! He will be doing some door replacements, painting and odds and ends.
