Yu King Bakery is worth the trip out to Bensonhurst for flavor-filled and tasty bites. I tried the shrimp chive dumplings, a pork bun, and the rice rolls. All were solid, but the pork bun was my favorite. It was flavorful and fluffy, almost felt light. The Portuguese egg tarts looked tempting, and I'll definitely be back to try one next time. My only wish is that they had a menu posted, but it was easy enough to get inspired by watching what others ordered. read more

This is one of my favorite bakery on 86th street area. My go-to for some breakfast dim sum and fresh baked bakery buns. It's a small shop but recently had been renovated to look very chic and modern. Because they updated, the place looks bigger... or at least more spacious and longer. It used to have a narrow cramp feeling when you enter. Everything looks bright and clean now (before was just darker because of the lighting). Everything still smells delicious and fresh. Most items can take a longer to come out (maybe due to covid & less customers) but once everything is out; it is heavenly. The last time I came here in person was on Halloween 10/31 to pick up some breakfast after I did early voting. It was about 7am so not alot of the dim sum items were available yet. read more

This is my go to dimsum spot. Is it more expensive than other places? Definitely. But it's definitely worth it. The food is made well & it's not greasy at all. The shrimps they use are huge (and in dishes such as their fried shrimp balls, you can tell it's not overly mixed with flour) and service is always really fast. When it comes to shu mai I hate it when you bite in an it's extremely porky (like that pork scent is overwhelming and you can tell it's not good quality meat) but their shu mai has never let me down. Personally, I'm a huge fan of their shrimp in jalapeño (sold out early) and spare rib churn fan. Their lemon honey tea slaps too. One of the ladies that works here has a nasty attitude LOL but I mean, it's just how it is. Definitely try at least once! read more

Accidentally came here when I was looking for a quick breakfast and found out they also serve dim sum as well. Arrived around 11am and this place was super busy. They have about 10 seats so f you're looking to eat in, you can. However this place seems more like and in and out joint. As for their dim sum, it was pretty solid. I enjoyed their shrimp rolls, stuffed eggplant and especially their shrimp roll in skin tofu. Review here is not to critique the food but the weird service experience. This may be the first time I've experienced this at a Chinese bakery. I grabbed some coconut tarts that was put out on the tray for customers. Was ready to pay and the ladies grabbed them away from me and nodded back and forth between each other. The next thing they said to me was, no more tarts. I was expecting more but I guess I wasn't getting any tarts. Weirdest experience and walked out annoyed. Isn't the common business practice is whatever is put out on the trays is supposed to be available to customers? Wasted a chunk of my lunch break time today to leave empty. I was helping out a friend in the area and realized I needed some grub after a few hours, so during a break I walked down to 86 street under the elevated train tracks to see what I could find. I lived in this area in the 80's when it was still mostly Italian. Now Chinese businesses have insinuated themselves into the area, and one of them is the bakery/restaurant Yu King Bakery. Yu King is a fairly standard looking bakery. Walk in and to the left is the counter with various baked goods in a glass display. To the right are a few tables with seats, I can't imagine more than twelve people sitting comfortably inside however. Behind the cash register are racks of dry and steam heaters that keep various buns and Dim Sum dishes warm. They also have congee as well. I ordered the chive patties (gao choi), steamed ribs and a coconut bun. The chive patties were okay, not that great. In general, I like the vegetables inside the doughy outer shell to be a bit crisp to the teeth and sharp on the tongue, but this was rather mushy without much flavor. The steamed ribs were the tastiest part, with the perfect seasoning (and truth be told, it's what saved this review from being just 2 stars). The meat was tender and came right off the bone. Now the coconut bun, which is a baked bun with a coconut filling. This is one of my favorite buns ever, right up there with a well made roast pork bun, so it really makes me a sad bunny when I have one and it's not so good. This bun was big, but it didn't have white, granulated sugar on top like I prefer. Inside? Instead of coconut bits with a crystal sugar, it was a mushy, yellow cream that I have seen some other bakeries use instead. This was not my type of coconut bun, and the taste was too over-buttery to the point where I couldn't even taste the coconut. Blech. The service was prompt and efficient as they usually are in such bakeries. I could see into the kitchen and the staff was hard at work. It is rather impressive to see dumplings being made at rapid speed. I won't say that I would not go back to Yu King, but aside from the ribs, I'd most likely make different selections if I did go again. read more

Prices for dim sum ranges from $4-5 a dish, that's robbery considering it is a bakery and the quality can't be compared to restaurant dim sum. Got 7 dishes of dim sum and two buns and that cost $40. Disappointing, there are other bakeries out there that sells dim sum for way cheaper... read more

We love their dim sum. Family takes pur kids there. We especially love their spareribs rice. Definitely try. Beef crepes are very good. Taro dumplings buns, bean wraps are all good. First of all, this bakery is the typical Chinese bakery and not meant to satisfy the Americans' taste. It's a quite small place to dine in. Lines are quite long during breakfast hour. If you dine in, you usually see elders there, or with their grandchildren. But don't let this ruin the image of this bakery! I wouldn't regard "Double Dragon Balls" (its name in Chinese) a bakery even tho it sells baked goods, pastries, and drinks. I think its main selling point is their dimsum/breakfast items. This is one of the best places to eat real Cantonese dimsum/breakfast. Yes, most off them are oily & greasy (fried stuff), but come on, this is the Chinese taste! It's the same thing in Chinese big restaurants. Their chow mai fun (fried rice noodle) is great, fresh, has "wok hey", but yeah its greasy to most of you. Congee is good, too, very "mien", soft & thick. Then their steam dimsum, taro dumpling, cheung fun, i won't say their shiu mai's very good (lots of meat, i feel like just eating meat balls lol). Baked goods are okay. Just get their dimsum, fried noodles, congee! Too greasy to you? Then forget it. Other 'CBC' loves it tho! read more

It's not fancy and you most likely won't get a seat because elderly patrons board them (typical Chinese bakery style). But I still really like this place because the limited dim sum is good enough without much of a line and less hassle than going to a restaurant. The winners are really the egg custard tarts, roast pork buns (baked or steamed), sticky rice with sausage boiled egg wrapped in lotus leaves, and the rice noodles (cheurng fun). Getting the pain rice noodles is cheaper than getting ones with filling, and you get more. Rice noodles also come with sweetened soy sauce. The dim sum typically comes out freshly made around 8:30am on weekdays with better selection. Buns come out earlier. read more

Yu King Bakery is just a few steps away from my house. My aunt used to work here preparing the dim sum and dumplings, that's how my parents are close with those that work here. Very small Chinese bakery with fresh and delicious dim sum! In my opinion, it's one of the few bakeries that has actually good dim sum. Lines form quickly at the bakery especially on the weekend and sometimes the line can extend out the door! I would not recommend eating at the bakery, since it is small and eating the dim sum at home is probably more relaxing. A family friend got dimsum to go from here and she said that their vegetarian rice noodle roll? (ha mei cheurn fun) was really popular. I tried it and I have to hand it to them, it was pretty good (the other rice noodle rolls were good too). People in the kitchen were constantly making them so the box went directly from the kitchen and into my to-go bag! Their other dimsum dishes were somewhat decent. Small Chinese bakery with fresh dimsum. Go on the weekend in the morning and you can see them churning the dough while you wait in line to order. The baked goods is displayed on the left and the seating is to the right. Four or five wooden tables seat about four each, although most people take their dim sum to go. You shout to the ladies in Cantonese what you want, and they displace the dim sum off the ceramic white plate into a small Styrofoam box. After you finish your order, they total your bill. Cash only like most Chinese stores and grocers. Most of the dim sum here is better than other bakeries in the Bensonhurst area. We usually order their gow choy buns, haw chuen, beef balls with cilantro, and steamed pork buns. Their consistency is better than most dim sum places, in that the gow choy buns are usually crisp on the outside with a generous portion of shrimp and gow chow, their beef balls are usually large (2inches in diameter) and their pork buns are fresh. Of course we have had the contrary but as their overall performance remains the same, we will be back. read more

Just went to pick up some chinese pastries to satisfy my sweet tooth. They raised the price which wasnt the problem. Everyone who worked there was rude and unhappy. One of the ladies just walked away from me when i asked whats left. The second lady just didnt care. I remember when they first opened, they were smiling and nice. Then they turned into zombies which was my first or second review which had 3 stars. Now they are worse. Not happy, rude, and made me not even want to step foot in there anymore. Don't order the Congee. Long lines on major holidays and days between Christmas and New Year. The line used to go outside the door. The line is not as long now, on non major holiday weekends, because other restaurants opened in the neighborhood and took away some customers. Almost always opened every day. You have to share table with others. Some customers didn't know that. Great food, dim sum. Good inexpensive coffee. If the items you wanted are sold out, you can order them made fresh, before 12pm, such as dried shrimp rice noodle roll. You have to stand and wait 10 minutes, and remind the cashier after 10 minutes if the food didn't come out yet. Lately, haven't seen fresh shrimp har gow. This review is for their service. I needed a cake to bring into work For a celebration. Other Asian bakeries in the immediate area open up after I'm already at work and close before I get back home so I decided to order the cake from this place. I stopped by after work hoping to place an order for a cake to be picked up at 7 am 2 days later. I was told the baker had already left so I clarified that I was placing an order for pick up in the morning 2 days from now at 7 am. She said cakes aren't ready that early. I told her I understand that's why I am placing the order now so it can be made tomorrow for pick up the morning after its made. She then told me to come back on the day I needed it. I asked if she just told me that cakes aren't ready so early at 7 am? She said I would have to come later in the day. I explained that I need it at 7 am so I can bring it to work with me. They can make it the day before. She said she couldn't be done. Okay. Whatever. I wasted my time and I walked out. Found a place a few doors down that had some nice cakes and they said they had cakes ready at 7 am when they open. I will be bringing my business their instead. read more

This small unassuming bakery houses some delicious Dim Sum that people line up for early mornings on the weekends. It's encouraging to the local Caucasian population standing in line also spreading the culture of our food. The Dim Sum is excellent for a tiny bakery, and the service is speedy and consistent. The food is prepared fresh in the kitchen and you can peak in while you are in line, the kitchen looks exceedingly clean and organized. If you have little time to wait for a table Yu King is a great options for breakfast in the mornings in Brooklyn. My family & I get dim sum from here all the time. This place makes the best dim sum...we stopped going to the dim sum restaurants near 8th ave because nothing compares to this place. They make the best beef/shrimp rice noodles. The rice noodles are fresh, soft & amazing. You will usually see a line that extends out the door so the food is always fresh as the turnover is high. They make excellent egg custard tarts (the perfect flakiness) & soft bao's as well.
