Rodney has made Yucca a great neighborhood place to come for beer and music! I recommend following them on FB and their website for all upcoming acts. Almost every night of the week there's live music. Constant rotating taps from local/regional breweries to keep a beer snob like myself intrigued. A beer-bartender, Casey, who knows beer like the back of his own hand. Seriously, pull up to the bar when he's working and he's got stories and flavor profiles for everything available and something as a backup if a tap runs out. And for those who don't care much for fancy beer, they have PBR, Bud, etc. Either selection (craft or not) won't burn a hole in your wallet. The food addition of Bao Box has upped the food game to Yucca- totally delicious-but-not-fancy bento meal for less than $10. Wings can be a little spicy, but luckily you can get some ranch for dipping. read more

This has been my favorite bar in the entire valley for years now. I have always had a great drink here but then again I'm not bougie so it's hard to fuck up a vodka, cranberry. I love the atmosphere, the bands that come through, and the local life that frequents this establishment. I must say the food and the pinball is poppin. Serves food until 2AM! Saturday specials: $4 red headed slut shots... I think we are tempted. Too bad we didn't see the 3rd red head who walked by us as we all agreed to take it on the 3rd one that walks by. :( I've been eyeing this place for the longest time since I've been seeing my two friends from Arizona checking into this place. Finally got to try it out and.... I only liked the drinks, atmosphere and the pool table. Totally did NOT like the food that night. On their menu, there is a bar snacks and entree section. I decided to eat something small since I know I cannot finish a burger or a taco by myself, so I got the chicken and beef kabobs. Some of you should know how a kabobs look like right? I hope the food only tasted that yucks because of not having enough people in the kitchen. I mean... if you're going to serve bar snacks, it shouldn't take 40-50 mins. Gah.... Pool table entertained us the most throughout the night. $1 quarters a game. Plus there's a live band in the other room if you're interested in listening. By the way, there's also another bar in the same room where the band places but only a couple of tables to sit down. maybe it's a bad night that we went...I guess we'll have to find out the next time I visit! Cool place, and it's somehow only gotten better over the years. It's big, with a bar (that has pretty incredible food, like tater tots and tacos and sandwiches and salads, AND amazing beer taps with a rotating selection), another bar with a little stage for live music, and like two or three rooms full of fun pinball games. security holds grudges, buddy of mine was in a previous altercation with security over some racial comments thrown his way a few months back, went tonight for my birthday and right away secuirty was hostile to my friend, right out the bat, "i Remember you, none of that shit tonight" me and my friend move past it and try to enjoy the night. we go out to smoke after one of the cover bands and when coming in we get told "he (my friend) struggled to get his jacket on, you guys are done for the night" there was a dude and a chick during one of the cover bands that got into a fistfight, he was taken outside and allowed back in after a few minutes. security was Looking for any reason to kick my buddy out and for some reason I had to be included, we were spending money and not being an issue, I will never go back read more

I've been coming here for years with zero problem. My bf and I have always loved the pinball games and the staff :) then tonight, for no reason, we both got removed from the bar. Mind you, we'd only just arrived, we were making no ruckus, just chilling on our own, and a "security" member removes us both. Four times we asked why, only to be told "that's the way it is." Unreal. If you're scared of gay couples, say it. If we're doing something wrong, say it. We still don't know why we've been kicked from our favorite hangout spot. Wow , great cool chill place ! It's a small place with just enough area for a decent stage , merch and a SRO area. No drama , no BS and only one patron that had a bit too much to drink(you know, the guy that drinks so much he has to take his shirt off..yeah that guy) ....it looked like he was irritating the band. Security promptly took care of it . It's so great to go to a place where no one has attitude . I noticed that a lot of shows don't have a cover . The show I went to was a staggering $10...for 5 great bands . If you're looking for great place for local and national acts this could be it . No pretentiousness , just great music . Just as a side note even with earplugs it was THUNDEROUS ! If I remember PBR was $2.50 . Tons of beer selections . Lots of parking . Security everywhere ..and couldn't be nicer . Update - I've been here a bunch of times now . Amanda and Ren are great . I finally went to the other side where you can eat . Tons of beers to choose from , taco Tuesday deals and Wednesday wings deals . The wings are out of bounds good and the "hot" is actually hot ! THE SINGLE WORST BAR EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD! I went to Yucca Tap to support a friend of mine who was performing with his band. I bought my ticket ahead of time online and went to attend the show with my Cousin and his Girlfriends family. As I went up to talk to the front they were unfriendly and seemed annoyed to be/work there. I said hello and they went straight for asking for my ID. Now, I know I have a rather young looking face but I am 25 years old. My wallet was stolen 2 days before the concert but I had my LEGAL Mobile Arizona MID. When I explained what my situation was the gentleman in charge of the stand said "We don't accept that. Nothing we can do it's our policy. Have a good night". Unfortunate that the facility has that policy but I can understand a place has rules. My cousin came outside to see what was taking so long and I explained to him "I don't think they will let me in because I lost my wallet the other day" Interrupting our conversation the gentleman at the stand said "Nope, not THINK we WON'T, leave and have a goodnight". Now I understand people want to make fake ID's and sneak in but I'm of age, I have Legal proof of it, I already paid, and I DONT DRINK. Seemed strange to be this hostile with me as I'm trying to conduct myself and be professional. My cousin mentioned if I can't come in I should get my money back (which is a fair point even tho it was just $10). I waited in line again and approached the gentleman upfront who was VERY annoyed to see me. I said "Hey I don't know if there is anything you can do to help but..." and before I could finish he interrupted again more aggressive this time and said "NO, CAN'T HELP LEAVE" and before I could explain the situation one of the security guards next to him started swearing at me and trying to get confrontational "DIDNT YOU F**** HEARD HIM?! GET THE F**** OUTTA HERE!". I told the security guard firmly but professionally "You do not need to talk to me like that", and that was enough to set everything off. The guy at the stand said he was calling the police if I don't leave and the security guard the tried to push me and get in my face screaming "I can talk to you however the F**** I want. I didn't touch him but stating this security guard was half my size I also didn't let him push me. Another security guard approached and shined a light in my face and started screaming at me to move. I again having done nothing wrong stood my ground and very calmly explained "I just want to talk about getting my money back" "I'm willing to wait on the street (since the whole line was on the sidewalk) but I'm JUST asking a question". The first security guard kept screaming, swearing, and pushing me and I told him firm but clear "Please don't touch me". I walked over to the street and a gentleman walks forward seeming to be a lead or manager of sorts. He tells me that he already called the police. I told home "that's fine, I have no problem with ANYONE one her your security was unnecessarily getting combative even though..." and he Interrupts me with "You don't have ID so you have to go" I explained I do have ID but it's a mobile ID since my wallet was stolen "He again interrupts me with "WE DONT ACCEPT THAT" so I tell him "I understand that and it's 100% fine, I was just asking who can help me with a refund" and the aggressive security guard said "GET IT FROM THE F***** BAND". I again told him " You do NOT need to talk to me that way." The lead then request to see my ID and asks the the security to grab $10 from the front. I show him my ID and say thank you. You takes a picture hands me $10 and says "You ever step foot in our bar again we will throw you the F**** out!" I have lived in Arizona my whole life, this was my first experience with this bar and I NEVER EVEN SAW THE INSIDE OF THE PLACE. Their security need to be trained in de-escalation because (again) I am a 25 year old, PAYING CUSTOMER. I'm easily know as the most patient and level headed person in both my professional and casual settings. If I was treated this way (SOBER AND CALM), I can't imagine how they treat other customers. The single WORST bar experience I have ever had. If you ever thought about visiting DO GO there are PLENTY of bars in Tempe. read more

The Yucca isn't for musicians. I played a show there last night and the door guy was a complete asshole with no communication skills. Ive played all over town and I've never experienced the disrespect that he show last night for a working musician. My drum gear placed in my front of my car when I was packing up was enough for him to ban me. If there are designated spots for gear he was lousy at communicating. I will never want to play there again or recommend this place to anyone! Bonus if you like getting paid $8 for a set this is the place for you. read more

This is my favorite show venue. They have a great selection of beer. The staff is cool. Love the new food menu. Had the mushroom bao bun, and Vegetarian poutine, both of which were loaded with flavor. My husband had the tofu bao bun, and said it was reallllly good. Everything was delicious. I sat down to write a lengthy and humorous review of this place. But I just don't have it in me at the moment, this place consumes your enthusiasm for live music, and destroys your sense of security all for the sake of good security. Let's have a drink and or go to jail! With my half hearted review of the Yucca. The security is a nightmare for patrons and musicians alike. Just outrageous, controlling, trolling, malicious, bored, angry, and ready for confrontation. I love how venue owners are so angry and hurt when they find out that people pay bands to play their living rooms and backyards. It is far safer to have a home event than going to something like this place anymore. If the patrons don't get you, they have trucked in and paid a group of people to control you and if that doesn't work, jail you. It's 9 dollar beer night and you are broke and in jail because somebody got bored! Fun fun fun. Who cares? I don't anymore. I have defended this venue over and over in the past. But it is a nightmare for everyone involved and without merit or fun anymore. What happened to this place to make it on par with a night in the drunk tank while jailers berate you? Was there some type of crime committed here? Is there reports of wild animals mauling people in the parking lot? Are people so out of control inside on a 6 x 6 stage that they need all that security on a constant basis? Well I guess I don't care. And that is that! 2 stars for the past greatness. I remember when Yucca had delicious pizza but nothing compares to the baos I just discovered there. These bite-size Korean sandwiches are my new favorite thing. Taco and bao Tuesday at Yucca is on my radar now. The beer choice is excellent as well, and of course, live music. You can catch some great acts here, big and small. Who steps foot in the Yucca and doesn't love it? Each year this place gets better and better. This is my last stop always on the night. (Uber after this stop!) The only complaint I really have (but I get it) I was there on a Saturday about 6 with my GF, we have racked up a $70 bill. Then I was asked to pay $30 for the bands. ($15 each). Again, I guess I get it, but I was basically paying $30 so we could have our seats back at the bar. Being that I was more that a few drinks in, I said no and paid my bill and left. Need a spot to chill at any day of the week? This is your neighborhood friendly bar! This place is well known for their drink specials anyday of the week. The inside atmosphere is very laid back and you can sit inside or stand outside on the patio which faces Southern and watch all the traffic go by. Either way, its all easygoing and laid back fun! Inside they offer billiards (pool tables) and then darts, they also have quite a few tv's to watch the games on. This place I have been told has live music sometimes, although the night I stopped by they did not have any live music. They have lots of domestic beers and some craft beers, along with almost any specialty drink you can think of. And, the best part?? They serve food until midnight. Read online this place has live music. Gotta check it out. Walked two miles from the hotel to get there (great exercise). The security guys outside the entrance were fun to talk to. Kinda set the tone before walking in. Inside, we were greeted by a guy who must have been one of the managers. He gave us a handful of tokens for the arcade games, which we truly appreciated. We played many of their pinball machines, while having a couple beers. Then we sat at the bar and ordered an appetizer (tater tots). The bartender was a really cool dude. Two local bands were playing that night, both one-man acts. The first guy played his own grunge rock. The second guy also played his own stuff, but his songs were written with a lot of humor. I'm not from the area, but while in town for Spring Training I did give Yucca Tap a try and was glad I did. I was surprised how large it is because from the outside it doesn't look so but it's does have 2 bars, a seating area, a stage and it's own separate arcade room. We came before the bands came on and had a few beers and some tots, which by the way are delicious. The bartender was friendly and they do have a nice selection of craft beer available. We'll have to make this a go-to in the future. read more

Sometimes I like to just chill in the lounge side and enjoy the weekend DJs. But Yucca has never figured out the sound issue between the two rooms. Every 15 seconds the door opens and the loud noise from the stage ruins the vibe in the lounge. The door should just be locked during weekend nights. read more

If I had to choose between sex and another visit to Yucca Tap, women everywhere would be bracing themselves for disappointment. While many bars aim to boast the LARGEST beer selection, Yucca keeps it cool, with a nice ratio of staples like PBR and Red Stripe for $3 to obscure drafts for as low as $6. Many of them come in 10-12 oz. glasses, and that's so they don't completely kick your ass. I had: Deschutes Hop Henge Experimental IPA (8.5% ABV) Mission Shipwrecked Double IPA (9.3%) And some other ale from Goose Island Brewery I was too buzzed to bother noting details on. Also, the liquor selection. Just do it. You don't even have to drink to enjoy this place. There's a good bar menu, a Foosball table, pool, some casino game I don't recognize, and A WHOLE OTHER BAR FOR MORE LIQUOR AND LIVE MUSIC. And they don't even charge a cover. The Summer of 97.................. My best friend growing up, Matt, had a pool table in his garage. We worked together at Mann Theaters and would always get off late and head over to his house to have a few beers, shoot some pool and just chill. During the Summer of 97, we pretty much had Less Than Jakes "Losing Streak" CD on repeat. There wasn't a day that went by that Losing Streak was not played in its entirety..most often, multiple times in a row. To this day, its still one of my favorite albums of all time, and never gets old. By now, you are probably asking yourself "What the fuck does this have to do with Yucca Tap Room?". I'll tell you what it has to do with Yucca Tap Room.....My buddies band (Western Settings... https://www.facebook.com/westernsettings/) was playing here with Less Than Jake on Saturday night! I drove down and parked in the back parking lot (huge..plenty of parking) and made my way up to the venue. They had some of the back parking lot fenced off with a stage out back for the "main acts" of the night. Inside, there are 2 sections. One where you can just chill for the most part, then the other section with another stage where bands play. Inside was a bit tight when people started packing in, but you could still find a little room to stake your claim. It had a very intimate feel to it seeing is that you are right next to the stage. The place had mad energy all night, and the sound was great! My buddies band was fantastic, and I got to see Less Than Jake who I have always wanted to see live! Less Than Jake played at least 5 songs from Losing Streak and I was bouncing along, singing out loud. It was great! I did not partake in any alcohol, but prices seemed fair. They were selling tall boys for $3.00, and bottles of water for $1.00. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely come back here to chill and listen to some live music! It's kind of "divey" but in a good way. All employees, security guards etc were super chill. Can't wait to come back! read more

Punk rockers, grunge clothing and dive bars are usually not my thing. I like clean bathrooms and nonsticky counters. But this one is cool in my book. I vibe the cool art on the wall with the animals in human clothing, so fun. Being that it was a Sunday night and we just wanted an intimate and low key place, this place came up on the Yelp search. They have a cool screen that displays all their beers on tap, which is about 30. I tried the Nitro Milk Stout by Lefthand Brewing Co and it is seriously the best, most creamy and delicious stout I've ever had. So good that my babe bought me a second one while I let him hit on me like we were strangers. Don't ask, we are weird like that:) I'm usually not a stout girl but that beer changed my life that evening. And you know I am not even a beer drinker. read more

We recently went to this location due to one of our favorite artists placing a show last minute. I'll break this down as best I can into sections. Decor: From the outside, on Southern, you have no idea that the door facing the street is an exit only. There's no signs, nothing. We got promptly told by security that we came in the wrong way. Sorry, maybe put a sign up? Otherwise, there are 2 bars total. One close to the stage, and the other in an open area with a pool table. It's incredibly dark inside, very dive bar vibes. Wasn't a huge fan of how dark the bar was. Drinks: The bar where the pool table was located was nice. They had all their beers on tap on a giant screen to review. The beer I had wasn't too bad, but my fiance's drink was nothing to scream home about. She ordered a Jameson with Ginger Beer and it was just ginger beer with a splash on Jameson. Beer was $6 bucks, and the Jameson was close to $10. Food: So the menu here was just recently changed. We asked securtiy about the menu, and he gave us the face of, "you really don't want to try." We decided to go ahead and order the Bulgogi poutine, and it wasn't too bad. The bulgogi was tasty and the sauce they had on top was decent enough. Overall: The website said that the artists would start by 9, but it was 10pm when they began. The hours need to be updated if they want happier customers. The drinks were ok, and the blonde bartender I had was super nice. She seemed upset, but was professional. We will return for more music, and hopefully there will be a little more light. read more

The only reason why Yucca doesn't get a 4 or 5 is due to the sight lines. I'm not sure they could do any better with the shape of the club/bar but if you want to see the band be prepared to stand and NOT sit at the bar. That said Yucca has a really good booking policy ... a virtual who's who of local music plays here. read more

Yucca is a great place to see live show, oftentimes for free. They have cheap drinks so I spent many nights here when I was at ASU. There is an awesome pinball bar connected to one side of the venue and a proper bar and grill on the other. read more

This bar really has two distinct personalities. There is the original bar which has a few taps, but mostly bottles & cans. It is more of a traditional dive bar and has the major label beers (plus some of the forgotten brews that are more nostalgic now such as Hamm's & PBR). I was impressed that I checked in and received a Yelp coupon for 50% off of my first drink. I had a tall Red Stripe, a Hamm's, and a PBR for a grand total of $6. Next door, or through the door in inside the bar, is a second version of the bar. This has a whole different feel. It is more of a craft beer, newer bar. Unlike the chalk board menu next door, this section of the bar has electronic menus with a good assortment of micro-brews. Each of the ones I had on this side were $6 each. A huge highlight for me was the menu. I ordered a Sonoran hot dog for $3.95. Being engaged to a lady from Sonora I have had several from various places. The Sonoran hot dog here was probably the best I have ever had. And it was cheap! I like this place because it does have two different personalities and depending on your mood, one of them will be right for you. I like the newer side with a good selection of draughts and bottles. One of my favorite bars in Tempe, it's pretty divey, but the people who come to this bar are awesome, and the employees are great! They have one of the best craft beer selections for being such a dive. They also have a lot of tap takeover nights which is pretty cool too! I normally would just drink here, but came on a tuesday and saw they had $1 tacos, was kind of skeptical but tried them anyway. AND HOLY MOLY they were delicious. Since then i've tried other things on their menu, and have not been disappointed. The other night I had the veggie burger, and for a bar you would expect just some store-bought frozen patty, but not at yucca! They homemake them with black beans and cranberries and let me tell you, IT WAS SO GOOD. They were very generous with all the fixings too, (including lots of avocado) which i've seen places be stingy with. Also the prices are so reasonable, and they have specials on top of their great prices such as taco tuesday, wing wednesday and NFL specials. Lastly, if the beer and food don't win you over, they have live music too! And there's rarely a cover. It's a great place to discover some cool local music and traveling bands too. So overall, if you haven't been this this place. I would highly recommend. I'm sure you'll love this place just as much as I do. read more
