This place is an institution. Historical. The ambiance is exactly what you want from a dive tiki bar. Although there are no tiki cocktails, the beer is cold and cheap. Can't go wrong. Don't go in expecting a classic or modern tiki bar, this is a tropical dive, in the best possible way.

Came to this hole in the wall cash-only tiki bar while waiting for a seat at a nearby restaurant. It was a Friday night and aside from our group there were only about 4 others there. We ordered a mix of cocktails, beers, and shots and I got a dark and stormy from the tiki list. It was a cool enough dive bar, but it was oddly quiet. They had a jukebox that you could pay to pick the songs, but as soon as the songs we picked ran out the music went off and it was silent. Felt a little uncomfortable and too divey for what we were feeling that night.

Trista the bartender was so friendly. Made great drinks! Love the dive vibes. Bought a glow in the dark tshirt! Support your local business!

This is a nice little hole in the wall bar that I stumbled across while I was going to see the Prince Mural. It has indoor dining seating (hi-tops and booths), bar seating and a modest fenced in patio area with a few tables. They have music playing throughout the inside. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance. The bar is dimly lit and decorated with colorful Christmas lights. You will find a digital juke box here to get the party started, but they also have music playing if you did not want to select your favorites jams from the juke box. It is important to note that the bar is cash only, but they do have an ATM inside to get cash though. They have a wide selection of your tropical tiki favorites, which are my favorites. If was a tough choice, but I got a Mr Howell and Freaky Tiki. They were very savory, and did not last long. All of the bar's signature cocktails are $9, which makes it simple. The bartender was friendly. The bar seems to have its regulars and he was very familiar with most of the patrons. This chill bar is definitely worth checking out.

I love tiki dive bars and this one has been around forever (since the 40's). Bikini Lounge is located on legendary Grand Ave in Phx. A group of us came by here for some drinks before a show and had a fun time here. Drinks are affordable and strong and are cash only (there is an ATM inside). The decor here includes tiki masks, wooden statues, and cool vintage paintings in a dim light setting. I personally enjoyed our bartender's fun witty humor while she was making our drinks. This is not some upscale fancy bar, but a great place to chill over good drinks and conversation with good music playing in the background. Bikini Lounge occasionally has a DJ and there is a pool table in the back. Heads up - the parking lot can be a little sketchy.

A fun start to our night began at the Bikini Lounge after a friend referred us to pay a visit. Mary really knows how to prepare great cocktails and how to take care of her guests! This dive bar establishment has been around since 1947, which makes it a must visit! Don't forget to bring cash...but there is an ATM in the bar just in case you forget!

But, if you're looking for a really cool bar, KWSC is for you. I stopped by on a week day evening around 8:30 p.m. Located in Roosevelt Row, while there isn't parking, I found free parking on the street a few minutes away on foot. Ambiance (4.5/5): My type of spot. Dimly lit with a speakeasy vibe. There are eight or so seats at the bar, and the rest of your seating options consist of comfortable chairs and sofas. You'll see a lot of photos of people's bums on the walls lol. This is indeed part of the appeal. For free, if you would like, they will take a polaroid of your butt and memorialize you eternally on the walls. While I didn't do that, if that's up your alley, go for it. Service (2/5): This is the main area of improvement. After being seated, I was greeted promptly and got my first cocktail promptly. From there, things fell apart. I had to grab the bartender's attention to order my second drink and to close out. It was a week day and they weren't busy. And there were two bartenders. A lack of attentiveness. When I closed out, I noticed that the cocktails were both $2 more expensive than what was listed on the menu. When I inquired, I was told that the menus were outdated... umm what? If you're not going to re-print your menus, give people a heads-up when they arrive. I understand that most people won't notice, but this is deception. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet. If you're trying to eat here, all they have is snacks. The menu doesn't specify but I'm thinking it's probably chips or somethign like that. Drinks (4/5): A lengthy, and interesting, cocktail list. Similar to a speakeasy, you're going to see creativity and an interesting blend of flavors here. The most popular drink is Fuck Nazis. We're seeing a theme here. KWSC is an interesting spot. For various dollar amounts, you can get funny things outside of the polaroids of your bum. My first cocktail was great. My second one, a tiki drink, not so much. The menu said that there would be some flame action happening. It didn't. Just another example of the service falling short. If the service were better, Killer Whale Sex Club would easily be a five-star experience.

The atmosphere was unique, the bartenders were genuinely engaging, and there was a real sense of community that made every visit memorable. It became my go-to spot to bring friends from out of town and every single person I brought absolutely loved it! Back then, the cocktails felt intentional and creative, not just rushed out for volume. The staff remembered regulars, conversations flowed naturally, and the whole place had this warm, eclectic energy that made you want to stay for hours. Even on busy nights, it somehow still felt personal. Unfortunately, over the last couple of years, the vibe has changed quite a bit. The drinks just aren't as consistently good as they used to be, especially considering the prices now. Service feels far more transactional and impersonal, and the atmosphere that once made this place stand out has faded into something much more generic. It feels less like a neighborhood gem and more like a stop on a nightlife circuit.

A big group of us walked over here from Chase Field after the Filipino Heritage Diamondbacks game on Saturday afternoon (where we all got commemorative Filipino baseball jerseys and were wearing them). We came to this bar to continue celebrating our friend's birthday, and she chose this place even though it was about a mile away because she remembered it having a good vibe last time she was here a couple years ago. Spoiler alert: the vibes were not good. We were let in by security with no problems; he checked our IDs and everything. When some people in our group went up to the bar to order drinks, they all of sudden couldn't serve them because we were "too intoxicated." If our group was too intoxicated, why were we let into the bar in the first place? I decided to try getting a drink for myself and the birthday girl (both of us are Filipino). The bartender shouted at us before we got to the front of the line and even talking to us that he wouldn't serve us because we're with that group. I talked to the manager on duty who also happened to be the security guard who let us all in. I told him that it seems like the decision not to serve us was racially charged because the 2 brown dudes that went up to order couldn't get drinks, my friend and I were also denied, but the 2 white people in our group were able to get their drinks with little to no issue. The manager/security said something like, "I promise it's not that. I grew up with a lot of my close friends being Filipinos. I love your culture. I promise it's not about race." Mind you, I had ZERO drinks at the game and our 2 white friends in the group probably had more to drink than any of us. Someone will probably come in to reply and downplay the situation like, "Race or background never factors into our decisions at the door and never will." Fine. But high intoxication level should definitely be a factor in who you let into your bar, which we obviously weren't at that level since we were let in. The manager/security even said to me that he thought we were all good when he checked our IDs and that he disagreed with the bartender but couldn't override him. We weren't too intoxicated to be served, just too brown. We leave, and then we run into a group of black women. I half-joked, "Don't go to Luckys, they're racist!" That's when they let us know they also just got kicked out of Luckys. An altercation happened with them in the restroom that another patron started. If you guessed that this patron was white, you are correct. The staff took the word of the white patron without even hearing the side of the black women. They had already ordered food, but they were given their food to go and were forced to eat outside. Hearing from them that they also had issues with Luckys staff confirmed that we were being discriminated against. All this to say... if you're BIPOC, you should probably consider finding a different place to grab drinks next time you're out.

Great food (hot crisp tots) and a jukebox full of happiness. I came here for the first time due to VIVA PHX. I live north of town, and had no idea this place existed. I do now! The booths are cozy, and the outside is pleasant.* It's a great spot for live music under the stars. And the staff - they are - like - nicer than I've even thought possible in a bar nowadays. I was there during happy hour last week and was offered a pitcher or a pint. I got the pint, but it went down so fast I needed another. Place was packed on a Monday night and by 11pm, more people showed up. Reminded me so much of NYC. We sat down at the bar and bartender was prompt and helpful. I ordered a mezcal margarita and he had a wheat style draft beer. Conversation locked in sync just as we had been years ago, drinks went by quick and before you know it, it was time for round 2. He had a Jameson on the rocks and I went with a smoky mezcal on the rocks. He was hungry and ordered a chopped cheese, reminiscent of NYC but no idea if it was good, but he polished it off quick. Jukebox was playing and we both weren't exactly excited by the music, but sometimes good conversation and staring into the eyes of your former special someone drowned it all out. Needless to say, I will remember this place for a long time to come. We headed out into the warm Phoenix night, clear, dark and while not drunk from the drinks, I was intensely buzzing from what suprises would unfold, it always ends in trouble, especially with this all too dangerous hunky beefcake. I had seen two girls before me go in with super baggy pants and no one asked them to empty their clearly full pockets. The bar is cute but clearly needing some updating. I had been here last year for Satsang and in the short time between it has seemed to deteriorate. The bartenders are overwhelmed and the only ones working are the men. My husband told me he tried several times to get the attention of one of the ladies and she turned her back to him. Also an experience I had with the ladies last time I was here. There was an incident where a girl slipped on water that was puddled on the floor and fell face first, knocking herself unconscious for a couple of minutes during the set for post crucifixion, and only my husband and I helped her, despite there being security there. I even tried once more to get the attention of a gal behind the bar with short black hair to get a towel to pick up the spill and she would not even turn to face me. I cleaned the spill myself by reaching over the bar and grabbing napkins, since the employees didn't seem to care. That will be the last time I attend this venue. I don't believe they care about their patrons and the staff is pretty rude.

Located downtown, while they have a small parking lot that they share with The Van Buren, I Ubered over. Ambiance (2.5/5): To get in, go into Ziggy's Pizza. You'll see a bouncer. He will check your ID and then you'll make your way through the walk in fridge. That will take you to a door that leads you to the speakeasy. When you think of a speakeasy, you think of dim lighting. Intimate. Quiet. This isn't that. On the weekends, Stardust turns into a casual club. There's a DJ, there's a dance floor, and there's pin ball. Not your run-of-the-mill speakeasy at all. So I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. For me, I think I would like it a lot more on a week day when it's a lot less congested. Service (4/5): Even with them being quite busy, the bartenders are quite efficient and attentive. Which makes things go through quickly, despite a line. Well done all-around. My only complaint? You pay on those little handheld devices which don't show you an itemized receipt. I had to ask for one. Food (N/A): They're owned by the same people as Ziggy's so you can wait for your food at Ziggy's and then bring it into Stardust. There are a few booths in Stardust so you can sit and eat. Ziggy's is pretty good pizza, so I recommend it. Drinks (3/5): When we're talking speakeasies, the expectation is elevated cocktails with an interested blend of flavors and ingredients. While Stardust has a cool menu, the cocktails are made quickly so the focus is on speed rather than quality. They're not bad per se, nor are the prices, but they're not speakeasy quality. I've tried four or five different ones on the menu. The creativity is there to a degree, but the execution isn't. While a bit critical since they're a speakeasy, overall, Stardust is a pretty cool spot. If you come right after a concert gets out at Van Buren, expect for there to be a long line. I'm planning to come back on a Tuesday. Why? Free pinball (normally it's a $1 per play) and specials on cheese pizza slices and beer.
