My boyfriend and I stayed in Bowling Green Kentucky for one night whilst traveling recently. We decided to dine at Yuki based on the great reviews. It certainly did not disappoint! We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Our server was friendly and fun and answered all of our questions and made informed suggestions too. I had in the past loved going to this place. Today that change. I ordered two to go combinations dinners with scallops plus a side order of scallop ($8 & some change). I had no problem paying for the side order of scallops but when I got home and opened the extra order I see 4 scallop! When I called to voice concern, the reply was scallop price have gone up! Obsessed with Yuki and always have to visit when I'm in bowling green. Today I got the tuna tartare which is melt in your mouth delicious. I always get a chop chop roll and dip it in spicy Mayo and soy sauce. My friend got the Jenny and I'm definitely going to try it next time. The sever also recommended some tempura fried French fries. This authentic Japanese restaurant is like Hidden Gem in the Bowling Green area. There is no hibachi menu with the cooking show, but it impresses customers solely with its taste. We arrived before this restaurant opened, and there was already a long line. So I could see that this restaurant was popular enough. All of the employees that we interacted with were professional, friendly and helpful. I had the 9-piece nigiri chef's choice and it couldn't have been any better. The fish was fresh, the extra flavors the sushi chef added were spot on...especially the Bonito...and it was some of the best I have ever eaten. I have had sushi all over the United States and even in Japan...and this is as good as it gets. Also, the green tea, house salad, and clear soup were awesome. My wife had an udon noodle soup with shrimp tempura on the side and she really enjoyed that, too. Next time we travel through Bowling Green we will be back. We come this way 3 or 4 times a year. We arrived just before five o'clock for dinner as the restaurant opened. We were seated quickly. Our server was very pleasant and friendly. There was music playing in the background but not too loud. Just right. Everything was clean and neat in this restaurant. We ordered two appetizers: shrimp tempura and a whitefish tempura. Both were excellent - fried but not greasy at all. My wife had the Teriyaki Shrimp dinner and said that it was cooked perfectly. She really liked the flavor of the sauce. I had a steak tonight and it was tender and juicy. What an excellent meal! It was so good that we placed an order of sushi rolls to go (for lunch tomorrow). Give this place a try the next time you want Japanese food. Be patient though - they get busy quickly. read more

I was feeling Japanese food last night but always hesitant when I get more inward from the coast or outside major cities. But I saw this place and from some of the reviews, it sounded worth it, so I decided to give it a try. The parking is spacious and the outside looks more of a modern style restaurant. I was cautious when I walked inside because I saw a number of people working and none of them were Japanese. So I questioned myself if the restaurant was a legitimate Japanese restaurant or one owned/operated and just saying it's a Japanese restaurant. By my surprise, the owner is actually from Okinawa, Japan which was great. Not going to lie...I was jot expecting that, especially in the middle of Kentucky! Nonetheless, the service was great as my server was answering questions I kept asking or she would go back and ask the chef. I ordered vegetable tempura, takoyaki, miso soup, and salmon and tuna roll. The tempura was awesome and so was the takoyaki. They were very tasty and hot. The miso soup on the other hand wasn't very hot and they used cremini or button mushrooms, which is not normally used in miso soup. The sushi rolls were very good along with the ginger pieces and the fish was fresh. Not overpowering seaweed as some can be very strong in taste. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those locally or just passing thru like I was if you like Japanese food. read more

Going in, it seemed nice, if not just a smidge small for how popular it is! They were PACKED, but we got two seats at the sushi bar, which, HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you don't mind smelling fish every now and then. It's nice and fun to see the effort and artistic work the chefs put in to making each roll. We ordered two orders of gyoza, one Philly roll, two pieces of ebi nigiri, and two tuna rolls. If I had to take a star off, it would be the service. While the waitress was very nice, she hardly never came around at all. My boyfriend's drink was empty until the end of our service. We ordered two tuna rolls, and only received one. All of our other modifications were granted. Our sushi came out before our gyoza. Given, at this restaurant, gyoza doesn't seem to be an appetizer. When someone came around to refill our drinks, it was not our server. She had to check in on our gyoza. We got no word on where she was, but she was attending to other tables and skipping over us. While the quality of the food was fantastic, it does put a damper on the evening when you can't get a drink refill. Onto the food, the gyoza, if you're ever been to Lexington, is like Sushi Blue, if not better because of the browning on the fried dumpling. The salmon is high quality, my only complaint about the Philly roll is that they don't put very thick pieces in. Thinner strips that made it hard to tell if it was fall-apart-in-your-mouth quality (though, my tuna roll was). The ebi didn't have a vinegary ginger taste. The shrimps were meaty and yummy. There's good reason why there's so many people lined up to get their fill. It's worth every penny! read more

Went for dinner recently and was impressed but not blown away. Part of the reason I sought Yuki out was because other reviewers had applauded the "authentic " nature of their dishes. I had a chef's choice of seven pieces of Nigiri sushi and all were fresh and flavorful, but none particularly challenging, nor much different from many sushi restaurants. I sat at the bar and the bartender was also busy making drinks for the bar and servers, so perhaps if I'd sat at a table, my server would have been more informative and could have pointed me to something different that would have made me say, "Wow," but 'twas not to be. If I were to go again, I'd sit in the main dining room and ask for recommendations. Otherwise, it's no more special than any other good sushi spot. read more

My cousin's husband told me that this was the best Japanese restaurant around and despite many hints they never invited me to accompany them and the photos they took and posted on social media appeared to be primarily what I call Amerio Sushi, meaning rolls that are adapted to the US palate, so I had never made it a priority to dine here. A situation occurred that placed me in Bowling Green at dinner time so I and my dining companion decided to try it out. I was so happy that they do indeed have authentic Japanese cuisine as well as traditional authentic sushi. I ordered everything on the "special fish we have tonight" board, and added scallops and a yellowtail roll and I was so happy. My dining companion decided to go with the sukiyaki and was also greatly pleased. We shared the appetizer and both had green tea ice cream for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! The service experience is the absolute worst I have ever had in my entire life. After 1 and a half hours, part of our table had a little bit of their food. Took half an hour to get a glass of wine. The place was not busy while we were there. I never got my sushi, while the table next to me who had a different server, received their food before we got our drinks. When I kindly asked our server about our food. She became frustrated and made excuses as to why we had not received food or drinks. Had the salad but the ginger dressing didn't taste or look as per the usual Japanese ginger dressing, it was beige in color, not the usual orangy look and ginger taste. For starters, the menu is a little difficult to find. They don't have a formal website, which is fine, but it's not easily found on their social media either. The restaurant itself seems quaint, but I didn't see much as I ordered takeout. I got 2 rolls, added some salmon, which came out to around $30. I wouldn't think this is an unfair price, but the rolls were tiny. I had to check my order when I got to the car because I was convinced they left something out. The fish and sushi were good quality, but overall about what you would expect for rural Kentucky. Been here many times, food is great but they are playing fast and loose with their opening hours. If you walk in at 8:45 and are told the kitchen has not only closed but its been cleaned and they are (obviously ready to walk out ) so they can't do anything for you not even to go food that means they should be closing at 8. As someone who has managed multiple restaurants I can tell you that either they started shutting down around 8 or they don't actually clean their kitchen. In either case it is pretty awful customer service. Do yourselfes a favor and either respect your opening hours or adjust them. Closing time for a restaurant is when you stop seating people, not when you want to be shutting the lights off and locking the doors. read more

Shin Yuki Japanese Restaurant is still as amazing as I remember it being many many years ago. It's about an hour and 20 mins away in Bowling Green but you will definitely not regret it. It's actual authentic Japanese food about the closest one left to Clarksville. (Rip downtown Nashville Ichiban and Ken Sushi). The main thing I wanted so dang bad was the Japanese style Tonkatsu Don cooked with the egg and the Tonkatsu sauce. Absolutely as amazing as I remember it. The sushi was also very well made and doesn't fall apart and tastes soo dang good. I also got the Chawan Mushi melt in your mouth Egg custard. They also had Takoyaki which melted in the mouth and seemed home made not the frozen grocery ones. The miso even seemed home made and not the instant type. Lastly I had the Yama Imo (mountain potatoes) which are probably an acquired taste for most people they're not really full of flavor but I love them and always order them and they're hard to find. read more

Everyone there is really good at their roles. The sushi is the best in town. I've been looking for a place where I feel comfortable eating sushi in the middle of the country vs on the coast and I always leave there feeling good after eating. They are very clean. When you get take-out they wrap the bowls and sauce cups for the liquid so it doesn't spill, and the trays they put the rolls in are neat and beautiful. I cannot say enough good things about Yuki. This is absolutely among the top 2-3 restaurants in Bowling Green. It's also among the best Japanese restaurants I've ever been to, and I've been to Japanese restaurants all around the world. Let's start with the sushi. Yuki has amazing sushi. The freshness and quality of the fish is apparent. Joe travels to the fish market every week to make sure he delivers the goods, and it's so damn consistent that I'm excited every time, even though I live 10 minutes away and have been regularly dining here for 15 years. My staples: Philly Roll (every sushi restaurant in the world has one and Yuki's is the best), Toro Nigiri, and Flounder Nigiri. Or just get the 9 pieces chef's choice nigiri. They never let you down. But Yuki is much more than just a sushi joint. Their menu is absolutely packed with outstanding apps, traditional Japanese fare, and surprisingly reasonable prices for the quality of food. My staples: Zaru Soba app, Ika Karaage app, Katsu Donburi entree, Udon noodles, and the house salad. Yeah, the little one that comes as a side. The ginger onion dressing is unbelievably good. Honestly, I've never had anything bad. Their lunch specials are probably the biggest secret on the BG restaurant scene. Unreal prices for the quality and amount of food you get.
