As soon as we (party of 2) walked in, the greeter yelled at us while remaining seated at a table (wrapping silverwear) saying "2?" I said "yes." She replied "sit wherever you want." We sat, then ordered (me: shrimp & scallops; her: jumbo shrimp). The "jumbo shrimp" was nowhere near jumbo, and was the same size as the shrimp on my plate, which easily fit on a spoon. With drinks, it was $33.88 + tip. By the way, we never... NEVER saw our server after our food was delivered, until she brought the check. When I paid at the register, the manager asked how the meal was. I said "the 'jumbo shrimp' was the size of salad shrimp. He acted surprised, so I'm guessing nobody looked at our food. He added that he was going to complain. Cisco was supposed to have sent them jumbo shrimp. Yeah, right! Again, I guess nobody looked at the shrimp. Well... it's cheap, I guess? The sushi was flavorless and mushy. Tried 3 different rolls (the dragon, moonlight and monkey) and they all, despite having different ingredients, tasted amazingly the same - that is to say, like mushy water with a slight fishy taste. Also they are deep fried in ... honestly I'm not sure what. It looked like KFC - We began calling it Kentucky Fried Sushi. The Lo mein was mostly salty. Very little meat or veggies. You get served broth upon sitting. Not soup, just some hot brown water. It taste like salt. The teriyaki chicken didn't taste like much. Again not much meat, which we didn't really care about since we weren't going to eat it all. I almost want to give it an extra star for being so cheap... but it just doesn't matter that it's cheap because it's not worth eating. Hate to put it like that but... I found this place to one of the worst restaurants that I've been to in BG. I walked in to 4 server sitting at a table, in the back, by the kitchen. We stood waiting to be seated, when one of them yelled (or loudly spoke) for us to sit anywhere we wanted on this side of the restaurant. The menu looks like any of the fast casual "Japanese" restaurants you find in towns today. The prices were incredibly cheap-the only positive for this restaurant. With the cheap prices, I was not expecting gourmet food. Surprisingly, it was worse than I thought. We ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer which tasted like nothing, lighted breaded in nothing, and fried to perfection. We ordered a steak and rice and another member of my party ordered a platter with steak, shrimp, and chicken. My steak had the texture of beef flavored chewing gum. The "fried" rice had no color and alas no flavor. The chicken was cut into huge pieces and tough. In the end we paid approximately $41 and the dog ate well that night, I guess. read more

I tell them this is not what we ask for and they remade mine but refused to make my grandchildren food. Was visiting Bowling Green and after a day of shopping me and a friend tried Kyoto for supper. It was delicious! One of my favorite meals of my week in Bowling Green. The service was fast and the waitress was friendly. She was helpful in explaining any questions we had about the menu. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken with steamed rice and carrots. Kyoto Gardens is one of my favorite places to eat. As someone who highly values cleanliness, food safety, and value this restaurant can not be beat. Please disregard all comments about how this food is subpar, or the ambiance is off. This is a casual Asian restaurant, and it is the best casual asian restaurant I've been to yet. To start, the facility is incredibly clean, especially for someone who feels uncomfortable when things are dirty I haven't felt uncomfortable at this restaurant once. As if this wasn't enough you can eat here and bring home leftovers for 10 dollars. This is not a luxury you can get in many places these days, especially at a sit-down service restaurant. The food is always fantastic, vegetables are perfectly cooked every time I've never had a problem with meat being under or overcooked and their ginger sauce is to die for. Some reviews have mentioned how their miso soup is not true miso soup, but newsflash: if you don't like it, you don't have to drink it. Here is an honest review of the miso soup, it is a brown broth clear soup, and the broth is beef and mushroom flavored. No mushrooms or chives are in the soup and it is very salty- and it is free. So take that how you will, if you want one free appetizer to ruin your entire experience that is your prerogative. I will finish by saying this, I have always felt cared for when I step into this restaurant. Every single person on the staff is a kind soul who genuinely cares about your experience. What more need be said? It will always be a safe, friendly, affordable choice for me and my family. read more

At the risk of being reductionist... Kyoto's is the best deal on earth. When I was in college, I got take out at least once a week, usually more. To make the meal healthier, I ask for no yum yum and for the food to be cooked with no butter and even though it's a hassle, they always indulge me. If you're there often enough they start to remember you and know your name. The staff is great and the food is fast and very affordable. Other than the waitress, who was really nice and understanding, everything else sucked. The shrimp tempura and the sushi rolls we ordered were tasteless and when we told the manager that he said it was because we didn't get the spicy crab(but to be honest the sushi should still have flavor anyway and a lot of people don't like spicy food so they should have other rolls that don't have spicy seafood but they don't, EVERY ROLL IS SPICY) and we should dip it in soy sauce(which we did but it still tasted like nothing and we shouldn't have to use sauce that isn't included in the meal to add flavor to it). I mean sure the food is cheap but I would rather pay $15 for sushi rolls that HAVE flavor than $5 for sushi rolls that don't. This restaurant doesn't even deserve one star! read more

Good place for some cheap Chinese food. Being a college student my budget is almost non existent, so being able to grab a quick $5 meal to fill me up was great. Being a WKU student you also get a good discount. You can also ask them to not cook it in butter just to be a bit healthier. My boyfriend and I visit Kyoto's about twice a month. The prices are very reasonable and the food is good! My boyfriend likes the crunchy shrimp rolls and I like the teriyaki chicken.
