The Yukon Bar hosted the official after party for the sold-out Beers by the Bay fundraiser. Since I've yet to visit Homer's version of this establishment, we left our event early to make sure we were able to get in. Like many Seward attractions, The Yukon Bar is also conveniently located on 4th street. Definitely divey, but a welcoming, cool atmosphere nonetheless. The closest I've come to seeing a bar like this would have to be Chilkoot Charlie's in Spenard, Anchorage. A must visit when in Seward, for sure. Bartender wasn't the friendliest, but she did her job and she was efficient. It's still cash only, a lot of what's available to order, came from a cooler, and stayed in a can FYI. No frills, but decent live music/bands playing.

Looks like a Dive Bar... Feels like a Dive Bar... Bunch of Locals... better prices than other joints in town... Skilled bartender... Pool table... why wouldn't you stop by. But don't take my word, feel it out for yourself.

    The Million $ ceiling

the Yukon would have to be my favorite Bar . Tony is one of the best Bartenders Around . never lets your Beer get Empty . The Locals Are very Welcoming a few are very skeptical probably for good Reasoning . the Kareokee nights are my Favorite. its always a blast hanging out there . Alot of the Locals will talk to ya all night long and make you never want to leave !

Basing this rating strictly based on the fact that I'm not likely to go back. The decor is awesome. Literally hundreds of dollar bills stuck to the ceiling. And no real theme at all, just a little bit of everything which is chaotic but it works. Also, the bouncers were dressed in leather cowboy vests without a shirt underneath? Makes absolutely no sense but again, it just works. The real disappointment for me was the music. Music is a vibe-setter and the music was just not it. Lots of country but not even good country. Personally I think Cotton Eyed Joe should be outlawed from playing in public but to each their own. It's probably a bit unfair to give this rating for the music but if I the tunes are off, the vibe is off.

The service was great - ordered two mock tails and got two little boxes of matches. :) the dollar bills on the roof was unique and so spectacular!

Dive bar!!! Love these kind of places. Definitely a local bar with a few daring tourists mixed in (like us) watching the action. Cash only bar with a great atmosphere and all sorts of unique truckers on the wall. Probably a couple hours and dollars stuck to the ceiling. This is a great little watering hole when you are done doing tourist stuff.

I wanted this to be like my favorite type of bar. Divey, old with character, and fun. It's old. But the vibe is more run down and kind of gross. It smells like smoke in there and they have a cigarette vending machine. And there's people smoking out front and the smokes blowing in. I don't want you to think I'm a prude but it's kind of gross and then the bathroom smells kind of gross and all of it's just a little too unkept for my taste Cash only. Gross bathroom. Easy parking.

If you manage to come here and not have a great time, you need to start looking at what you're doing wrong. (with your life) Always a rowdy crowd, often a fun band. Locals, Anchorage-folk, and tourists alike, old and new...this place has something for everyone. Think of it like the "Salty Dawg" of Seward...or is the Salty Dawg really the "Yukon Bar" of Homer?! Anyway, they are both loud, fun bars with money on the ceiling that happen to only accept cash. Surprisingly good tap selection for such a divey interior. A must if you're in town, unless you don't like to party. In that case, go snuggle with Bootsy in the R.V. (note: I used to deduct a star for cash-only places but I finally wised-up and got a kewl bank with no ATM fees, ever.)

DIVE BAR AND LOVES IT! Drove from Anchorage to Seward on a Saturday to scope out the Sealife Center (check out my other review!). We heard that this place was the "salty dawg" of Seward or the "salty dawg" was the "yukon bar" of Homer..... I see someone else heard this as well! Ice cold beer, cheaper than anywhere else we have been but be prepared to pay cash! A note for people who do not like smoking... they smoke here (A LOT). Might want to bring an extra set of clothes to change into after :) Super cool place, do not miss it on your visit!

The Yukon desrves 5 stars if it was smokeless. Great Bar Tenders! Great patrons! Fair prices, and good drinks. Just can't stand the smoke.

Every night they have a different event (open mic, karaoke, dj dance party, live music, etc) That's all I have to say.

Both times I was able to get seated right away at the bar for dinner. The first night I had the…read more"bucket of butt" (halibut) along with fried pickles, and Tanner crab the following night. I absolutely loved the gluten-free coating on the halibut since I'm not a fan of tempura-style batter. The Tanner crab was amazing, and the fried pickles were also great, though the portion was huge (definitely too much for one person). Service was excellent both nights. The bartenders were really friendly, and the food came out quickly and smoothly. The interior is also super cute, kind of an old-school lounge vibe with lots of velvet. There's a neon sign that says "city where the fun shines," which adds to the fun atmosphere. Such a great dinner spot in Seward.

I was told that this place had a new chef so the food was now "great!" Since I'm in town working…read moreand wanted dinner, I stopped in. First, the place looks like1985 retired inside in a good way. The bar in lined in plush red fabric and the photos, decor and chairs all are retro to the max but what did the food taste like? So I ordered the smash burger and roasted mini Yukon gold potatoes with creme and bacon. The burger was kinda charred I guess but still good, the server never asked how I wanted it cooked so that was a HUGE minus, but it wasn't bad just not great, the flavor was good, the veggies were fresh, just not great! The potatoes were the star of the show! They were perfectly seasoned and the creme and bacon sauce was MONEY!! They literally melt in your mouth and were roasted perfectly without being mushy. The service was good, the vibe was super chill. The place is kinda pricey for what you get but that is everything in this little town. I will be back to try some other things eventually.

Several different locals had all recommended The Cookery for a date night, and we'd enjoyed their other spot, Lone Chicharrón, so we took a chance. It took about 15 minutes to get a table for two. The dining area is hip and funky, but also clean and spacious. Our server was a pro and got us sorted on drinks. I really enjoyed her suggested local beer, the Ky PA. We didn't have anything we didn't like. The standouts for me were the mushroom toast, the shrimp and grits, and the Homer raw oysters. The roast halibut and seafood chowder were also really good. For dessert we had the grilled angel food cake with blueberries. They were out of the lemon tarragon sorbet, but subbed in the chocolate coconut sorbet, and it was still very good. Overall a great final meal in Seward. Glad we stopped by!

All dishes were cooked perfectly again. The fried chicken was lightly breaded and sat on top of an Asian slaw that was the perfect acidity to balance with the fried chicken. The grits had the right texture and was delicious. My halibut was seasoned with tons of flavor and cooked to perfection. Do you see a theme here? We sat near where the cook and prep the dishes before going to their respective tables. This place hums like a well oiled engine. Going to the owner's sister restaurant tomorrow and can't wait.
