Hands down best restaurant in Seward. From the gorgeous views (right on the water) to the fabulous food, everything was wonderful. Our waitress for both times we ate was Kirsten and she was so pleasant, efficient, and helpful that we felt we left with a new friend. Halibut fish and chips, crab cakes, and caribou meatloaf were all fantastic. Getting to watch a sea otter playing in the water right outside the window was also a bonus! Excited to eat here tonight after dismal meal at Crab and Shrimp across the street. Originally went to Rays but the wait was over an hour and we were starving. Both of us ordered a bowl of clam chowder because we were in a seafood capital and it was 47' outside on June 6. After paying $26 for two bowls, there were absolutely no clams in the chowder unless it was blended up. There were potatoes, onion and thyme but NO CLAMS. Notified waitress who went to discuss with chef. No action. It was 6 pm so shouldn't have been the end of the batch unless someone only ladeled from the top. Crab cakes were good. Dinner salad with chicken ended up being $26. It was drenching in dressing but pretty good. Will not return here mainly due to rip off with the chowder. If I had a a choice now would have gone for the crab stuffed halibut. Do not recommend. read more

I can't say that I tried this place. I was looking for king crab legs and it was on their online menu. When I walked in the smell was horrendous. I know it's right next to the water but it really was just too awful to deal with. They thankfully let us know that there was no king crab legs so I had a reason to walk out. When my husband and I walked outside he let me know that there was hordes of flies everywhere in the restaurant. I would not order it again. We both ordered the $38 halibut with basil pesto sauce plate. The halibut was quite good, but the sauce was bland. It was served with plain white jasmine rice and frozen green beans. Zero seasoning on the rice and beans, which was so odd. I've never been served frozen green beans at a restaurant. We ordered a bottle of reserve red blend. The wine was below average--the type that's barely drinkable at first and then becomes acceptable after the first glass. I wondered why it was possible to select such a mediocre bottle of wine from their menu. I suggest making a reservation at Rays Waterfront next door. All of the plates there are pricey, but based on the line out front I bet it's worth it. read more

This is without a doubt the saddest, most disappointing meal for the price. Ordered halibut with pesto cream sauce and Thai salmon to-go. When we opened the boxes, we each got a bland piece of unseasoned fish that was barely adequate, plain frozen green beans (did you misplace the salt? forget the butter? and could you not at least do whole green beans?), plain white rice (that was overcooked - how can you screw up white rice?!?!), and a container of sauce. The sauce for the "Thai salmon" was a sad little container of the Thai equivalent of basic LaChoy sweet and sour sauce. The overall impression was somewhere slightly above prison cafeteria, but absolutely audacious prices for what you get. Don't even bother. Go a couple of doors down and eat at Ray's instead. Hostess had no customer service vibe, we asked for a window seat, and despite one being available, she sat us in middle of room. I pointed out the window table, and she reluctantly moved us. The server was FABULOUS..best part of dinner. We had dungeoness crab, and it was...meh... and served w frozen green beans, barely cooked, no seasoning, and rice that was...rice. again, no added flavor. Chinooks is a pretty nice to stop in town if you're looking for a casual place with friends to relax for a bit and enjoy a breathtaking view. Service was very mid, at least for a table of two adults with a baby in a corner. But I at least liked that they gave us a corner seating which worked with my stroller and came with a perfect view of the harbor on a beautiful summer day. The food is maybe hit or miss. If you like a crisp crab cake this is not it. These were definitely on the mush side and leaving sauce to be desired. The fish and chips were very pleasant. First and last time eating there. We had a window seat table. Could look out at the marina and mountains. The scenery cost us about $86.00. It was the best part of a very disappointing meal. The only redeeming dish was a cup of clam chowder that that my husband ordered. I had a small, and I do mean small salad with crab cakes that were tasteless. They were bland, barely wam, and of the consistency of cat food pate. I ate one of the two because I was hungry and knew the salad wasn't going to get me far. My friend tried the other and promptly spit it into her napkin. She had a bowl of something with rice, onions, salmon, and a dab of some sort of dressing. She ate the stuff on top and left the tasteless starchy rice at the bottom. Our waitress was friendly but appeared to be dressed either for bed or a Zumba class in her black spandex shorts and matching top. It was a waste of our time and money. read more

Spent nearly $175 for my family of three to eat overcooked unseasoned fish, unsalted frozen green beans, and overcooked plain rice. And lemonades that were so gross we threw them away. Thankfully my kiddo said the fish and chips were decent. So one out of three entrees looked like something other than cafeteria food that had been sitting for an hour. To charge $30+ for bland fish and sauce from a jar is laughable. Ray's next door is so much better for similar prices. Or go anywhere but here. Disappointing Experience - Poor Food, Service, and Unethical Behavior We recently visited Chinooks in Seward, Alaska and were very disappointed with our experience -- both in terms of the food and the service. We ordered the king crab legs, which were quite expensive, and came with a side of white rice and green beans. Unfortunately, the sides tasted like they came straight from a can -- bland, watery, and unappetizing, which is unacceptable at this price point. However, the biggest issue came after the meal. The service was poor, and we left a tip that reflected that experience. We even took a photo of our receipt at the table because we had a gut feeling there might be an issue. A few days later, we noticed that an extra tip was added without our consent. We contacted the restaurant and were told the waiter was actually the owner's son, and that "this couldn't have happened." After a few days of investigating, the manager admitted that the additional tip had in fact been added -- not by us. Their way of resolving it? Asking for my home mailing address to send a refund. I found this completely unprofessional and invasive, especially when the proper way to resolve this would be a direct refund to the card. Overall, between the low-quality food, poor service, and unauthorized charge, this was a very frustrating experience. I would strongly caution others before dining here. read more

I'll start off by saying the service and ambiance were fine. We were seated relatively quickly despite the place being busy, and the view of the water and mountains was decent. However the food was turbo-weak. The crab cakes were very mushy, as if they had been pulled from a microwave. My smoked salmon bowl had a layer of room temperature rice, and the quantity of salmon was small. Perhaps this place is great for a drink, but I would not recommend it for dinner. read more

I ordered a crab cake entree and my wife ordered caribou meatloaf. Hers came with mashed potatoes and green beans. She asked if she could get a side salad in place of the mashed potatoes but that would be an additional $4. Her meatloaf was very tasty, but that was all. The green beans had no flavor at all. As for my dinner, the three crab cakes were quite small and had no texture at all. It was as if the ingredients were blended before being fried. The flavor was bland at best. My meal was served with the same green beans and a serving of steamed white rice. No flavor whatsoever. At $29 per entree, the chef could have made a little more effort. But if it's flavorless rice and Del Monte green beans you're after, give it a shot. I will say, the meatloaf itself was good though. read more

Go to Rays instead, way more professional. . The clam chowder at Chinook was super watered down, my nephew got the kids fish and chips with one piece of fish in a sea of fries. My mom had a salad- she asked for no blue cheese, but wanted ranch dressing. Nether one of those things happened. There was lots of blue cheese on the salad and never got the ranch. We went a couple of nights ago, but the wait was an hour and a half. The girl at the front desk said she would write our number down and call us which amazingly enough it did happen but we'd already found someplace else to eat. I will say the hostess gave us a time estimate and she called about five minutes before the alarm on my phone went off so that was very accurate Is it worth the wait, I would say no. read more

We came in on a summer night and had a wait of about 30 minutes which was fine. We were looking for good Alaskan crab and we found it, but the sides were disgusting. Boiled frozen green beans with no seasoning paired with some rice that was super bland. We got the Dungeness crab because for the price it seemed better than getting like one leg of the King crab. We still paid around $90 and all we got was one drink and one meal. Service was okay, and you can't beat the view of the harbor. We ordered 2 halibut fish and sticks and 1 crab stuffed halibut. The halibut chunks were delicious and nicely cooked. You get 3 tiny pieces for $37. I mean tiny tiny, like maybe 3 ozs of fish. The fries were undercooked, completely squishy and gross. The stuffed halibut came with green beans and basmati rice. Just like the menu said. No room for added spice or sauce or flavor. Literally plain rice and plain green beans. Zero seasoning of any kind. At the end of the day, $150 for awful food. Complete rip off. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else, except subway, that was terrible to. We spent $180 (after tip) and came back to the RV to eat again. Waste of time and money. read more

4:30 on Thursday, July 3. Party of seven, and every dish was disappointing. The clam chowder was decribed on the menu as "worlds best," but was obviously canned soup with too much black pepper. The rice bowl arrived cold and stank. Dungeness crab was overcooked and dry, and then allowed to cool. Cajun chicken fettuccine was cheap and flavorless with too much spice in an attempt to pass for authenticity. I was looking forward to treating myself to a nice meal while in iconic Seward and naturally wanted to have seafood. Massive disappointment. The salmon tasted like absolutely nothing special pretty much flavorless and the sides were about 12 frozen green beans and maybe 3 tablespoons full of white ass rice. This photo is of the food as it arrived completely untouched. Absolutely could've made better in my own home without waiting or tipping. Had to fill up on a friend's fries before leaving because this was so truly skimpy. I didn't have the energy to fight it but will never go back. I'm shocked they think that they can get away with this but clearly they can. Hey guys at least cover up the plate with the nearly free frozen veg to give it some color. This is the only restaurant that we found open in Seward. Walking distance from the train station so it is very convenient to have a bite to eat before boarding. Oh my, this is day 9 of our Alaskan adventure and I'm sad to say that we had our worse meal of out trip. Firstly, the restaurant is right on the dock so it's poised for great views of the Seward waterfront and the surrounding mountains. We were in on the late side so we managed to get window front seating. Our hostess and server was good and my Alaskan brew was good but that's where the goodness ends. We ordered the enteee crabcakes, pesto cream salmon, and smoked salmon rice bowl. Firstly, the veg was green beans and it liked like they came out of a can. In fact, I'm pretty sure they did because we all had them on our plates and they looked identical. Secondly, two of us had rice as our starch and it looked like Uncle Ben's. My salmon was over cooked and the crab cakes were nothing special. The last good thing is that we were in and out quite expediently which was nice. Definitely would not recommend this place unless perhaps if you just want to have a drink and enjoy the view. read more

The very best part of this place is the harbor view from the dining room. It is gorgeous. We went for dinner. The menu had some appetizers and entrees. Our main goal was for fresh fish. We tried the Halibut in lobster bisque and smoked salmon linguini in cream sauce. The Halibut was good but the lobster bisque portion wasn't really flavorful. The linguini sauce was flavorful but there was soooo much and very little salmon so a bit disappointed. The prices are competitive to the area but expect to pay $25-40 for the entrees. The staff was very friendly and service was quick. They do have some mixed drinks, craft beers and wine by glass or bottle. read more

I think this place has great food and you really can't beat the location. It's right in front of where they clean all the fish that the fisherman catch you get to see all the dead fish hanging and what was caught during the day and there is a beautiful window that shows the Alaskan scenery. I've decided that I just don't like crab stuffed halibut. I have tried it a three places in Alaska, and it's disappointing everywhere .... but my dinner companions liked this one. They were all eaten up. We loved the salmon poke. It was only just a little weird with basmati rice - Jasmine would have been better. We ordered 3 of them for our big party, and the kids wanted a 4th. Kinda pricey. Clam chowder was bland until I added a ton of salt and pepper to salvage it. Would skip it next time. The gravy fries were a sleeper hit, and that was like poutine - yummy! Wish they did more broccoli and fewer green beans. The kids enjoyed their kids menu items of pasta and fish & chips. Service was good albeit a touch slow during rush hour. We would have ordered dessert if service was more attentive, but server was very friendly, and all the recommendations were awesome - including the tequila cocktail which was tasty. It was a solid Alaska 4 stars, prob would be 3 stars in a city like NY or LA. Nice views! Ok. What a great place. I was there as part of the Kendall Auto Group annual fishing trip. Chinooks is a "must dine at" restaurant in Seward. I had the crab stuffed halibut. It was soooo good. And of course we had a ton of appetizers. Every one was better than the previous. And that's not an insult. I had the crab bisque. We had crab cakes, scallops and more. I just can't remember it all. This place was recommended by our hotel. It was definitely not anything special. I ordered the Pesto Halibut and it was not cooked enough. The server offered to throw back on the grill but ended up cooking me a new one, which was over cooked... the crab stuffed halibut was good. We pulled into Seward after driving there from Anchorage, We were in town before settling in at our RV Campgrounds. We decided to try this place based on the location and availability of tables when we walked in. Our waitress, Marissa was great. We started off with cheese curds, not our fave and dirty fries, everyone loved. My Boo got the king crab, which was more like crab clusters and really enjoyed it. My gal pal and I shared the fried Halibut with fries and the large house salad. This could have been better. There was soooo much dressing on the salad that it took away from all the goodness of the greens, walnuts and cranberries. The fried Halibut was dry, felt like it was overcooked. Our other friend got the smoked salmon rice bowl - meh. But I will say they have a phenomenal cocktail it was like a margarita with cinnamon rim. It was so good, I had two. Unfortunately, we got charged twice for the king crab which took awhile for them to correct. On the day of our arrival we decided to find a place to eat and Chinooks was the first place that had seating available for a party of 4. We were seated by the window for a beautiful view. Marisa was our server and upon request made food recommendations. Food was okay. Our party ordered Fish and Chips, Salmon Bowl and Caribou Meatloaf. Chips were bland. The broccoli in the bowl was overcooked. Small serving of the green beans and mashed potatoes with the meatloaf. The potatoes tasted like instant. One member of our party also tried the chowder and said it had a strong dill and spicy flavor to it. While eating we saw a sea lion and could watch the catch of the day being brought in. All in all it wasn't terrible but the food could have definitely been much better. read more
