My friends and I decided this place to be our halfway meet up point for an early dinner. Free parking is located in the lot next to the restaurant. We ordered couple of appetizers such as Edemame, Takoyaki and Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. All of them were all delicious. We ordered most of the recommended rolls and my favorite was the Golden Tiger Roll. The rice was cooked well and each slice of roll was just mouthwatering. Service was great. The food at Yume was absolutely amazing--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Most of the staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. Unfortunately, one server, Minji, completely changed our experience. After a small accident at our table where a glass broke, instead of handling the situation with kindness and professionalism, she loudly announced that the table was reserved and made us feel embarrassed and disrespected. She even argued with another waiter who was being polite and trying to help, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. It's disappointing because the rest of the team provided excellent service, but this interaction left a negative impression. I hope the management is aware of how Minji treats customers, as her behavior does not reflect the quality of the restaurant or the excellent service provided by the rest of the staff. read more

This is my all time favorite sushi place! I regularly come here and each time my order is a Monster roll with spicy garlic edamame, occasionally I'll add the potato roll depending how hungry I am. I love dining in, the vibes are always cozy, relaxing with the music they play, and I love the dim lighting inside. I've been to many sushi spots but Yume will be my #1. It gets the sushi fix satisfied without having to drive to DTLA or Pasadena or Buena Park. I live very close and this is the only Japanese cuisine near me. I came to Yume Japanese Restaurant with a friend because we were looking for a halfway place to meet in the area. It was a decent restaurant for us to catch up and seems great for the locals, but I do not recommend going out of your way to try it if you are not in the area. Upon pulling up the parking looks pretty business. I was still able to get parking, but I can see parking get more scarce during peek dinner times. There was a sign at the door that the Rolls are Buy 1, Get 1 Half off from Monday - Thursday. I can see that deal luring in customers. The restaurant was modern in decor with touches of cultural paintings. There were many booths, half booths, and a sushi bar. We sat at a half booth. I appreciate that they gave us a 4-top for 2 people so we had space for all the food we ordered. Even with a larger table it was a tight fit for everything we ordered. My friend and I tried a good variety from their menu. We shared Salted Edamame ($6), Salmon Skin Salad ($13), Pico Roll ($18) Zen Roll ($18 value, $9 with bogo deal), Ninja Sashimi ($40), and an Udon ($14). We both also had the Lychee Glow ($10/each). I want to point out that the restaurant was extremely cold during our visit. We wanted to order hot tea but there was something broken about their hot water machine? Not sure why they couldn't boil some hot water. It's really off brand not to have tea at a Japanese restaurant. As the food came out they gave us 2 side salads and 1 miso soup that came with the items we ordered. Had we known there were salads we wouldn't have gotten the salmon skin salad. The salmon skin salad was overly dressed and really soggy, when the crispiness of the salmon skin is my favorite feature of this type of dish. Both of the rolls were a little loose and soggy. I preferred the pico roll over the zen roll. We only picked the zen roll cause it was one of the healthy options but in 2 different pieces I had gross sinew in my tuna and it was so chewy I had to spit it out. The ninja sashimi was nice, as it helped us load up on protein while still being healthy. The udon was plain and bland, not recommended. We got this cause it was so cold and they had no hot water for the tea, so we got it to be warm, but it was pretty disappointing. I can see why the locals like it. Pricing is fair. Service is nice. It was actually packed when we were leaving so I think we got in right before the dinner rush. I would come back if my friend wanted to come back here to meet halfway, but I really wouldn't go out of my way to come here otherwise. read more

I'll be honest, what got me here was the 4.7 rating and needing to find a spot that was midway between me and my friend. I stumbled upon Yume on Yelp and decided to make us a reservation for a Friday night. Definitely recommend making a reservation, there were a good amount of people waiting when we arrived and we left, and we got seated right away. Otherwise, there is waitlist you can join when you arrive if you don't mind waiting. The place it self is pretty big and it's very nice inside. It has lantern all around definitely Japanese influence, which makes it more fun to be inside. They nicely set up the table and have a wide variety on the menu. Yume has a great lunch special which included the Bento box 2 item combo for around $21 so you are looking at a protein or main dish, roll with an appetizer. Spicy tuna is fresh. The lychee drink hits, like my friend said it makes you "buzzed happy." The ambiance is very cute I would describe it as modern and trendy, very clean, but comfy enough to fit a big party. What a terrific addition to the already thriving restaurant community of Pico Rivera! Yu-Me is located just around the corner of what is arguably one of LA's best steakhouses, Dal Rae, and that's okay because they do not compete against one another at all. Dal Rae is a high end and quite expensive steak and seafood restaurant whereas Yu-Me is a Japanese classics restaurant that is equally heavy on sushi dishes... The interior is a tad Vegas-y and nothing special, modern, a bit austere and trimmed out w neon, but you do get to enjoy the privacy of your own booths. They're comfortable too. The food is fairly represented in the well shot menu which is extensive. Can't believe they have what looks to be perfect pork cutlet curry (tonkatsu)! We order that as appetizer and I sub out the pork and opt for the chicken cutlet curry as my date does not like pork as much. The waiter explains the pork is more flavorful and is the traditional way but I'm okay w chicken tonight and vow to return for the pork. When the chicken cutlet curry arrives, it's even bigger and more impressive than on the menu page: a perfectly panko crusted and crunchy chicken filet is cut into large pieces and is surrounded by large spoonfuls of rice and bubbling curry in a pan that continues to cook the food underneath allowing the rice to get a crispy underbelly... think bibimbop. Delicious! I get to take a box of it all home and it makes for a great breakfast the next day with a fried egg! The sushi combo I opt for that is $29 is huge and delicious too, full of albacore, salmon, tuna etc as well as a spicy tuna roll that was really on point as well. Terrific value here, where the rubber meets the road. My date gets a fanciful roll of cut tuna topped with uni and says it is really good. I don't try it because it looks relatively smallish and, hey, I don't like uni, have always felt it can be had for free if folks were willing to just scrape it off their car windshields! lol All jokes aside, the waiter we had was so kind and attentive and took my direction to have the curry cutlet entree as an appetizer and only put in for our sushi entrees after we were done that I want to acknowledge him here. Wish I knew his name. I tip 20% on the $120 bill and feel as if we got every bit of a deal because we had 3 entrees, miso soups each, a shared salad, AND a $30 bottle of the excellent Sho-Nue Sake, which was clean with notes of peach and citrus. Who would have thought one of my favorite sushi spots would be in Pico Rivera? Yume Sushi has become a go-to for me, and I've been back many times because the quality of the fish consistently delivers. The sushi and sashimi are fresh, clean-tasting, and prepared with care. Outside of the raw offerings, the chicken katsu with curry is absolutely delectable--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and paired with a rich, comforting curry sauce that I could honestly eat on its own. Their drink menu is another pleasant surprise. The cocktails are bright, citrusy, and fragrant, and the matcha beer is a fun, unique option you won't find at many places. My only critique is that some of the portions on the sashimi platter feel a bit small for the price, especially compared to similar spots in the area. Still, the quality keeps me coming back.
