Sat at the sushi bar and ordered the omakase set along with the garlic edamame. I asked for no albacore and was hoping it would be substituted with a different fish, but instead I got double salmon, which I honestly didn't mind too much. The fish was fresh, but the seasoning across most of the pieces tasted very similar, so nothing really stood out. The spicy tuna roll was also a little bland for my taste. The garlic edamame, however, was delicious and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. We love Oji Sushi & Sake Bar! We are regulars here and everytime we come we try something different. Today we went and decided to try the Halibut, King Scallop, and Ikura. Along with our beautiful rolls -the crazy albacore, and the Zen. Our server is the absolute best! LOVE this place!! For it being a Friday night and fairly packed I was seated within minutes. My waiter was exceptional! Even though I didn't get his name, he was so friendly, made sure I was good (I was alone) and when there was no cups available for my drink he made sure to let me know and keep me updated. Tonkotsu Ramen 3/5: - I liked the flavors and it wasn't super salty. It definitely satisfied my ramen craving, but I wish the meat wasn't that overcooked and dry. Chirashi 4/5: - Also liked this but my only thing about it was that some fish pieces were very fishy so it threw my taste buds off. Angrytail roll 4/5: - Also good, I don't have any complaints with this, the fish could be a little more fresh but that's about it. The sushi here is so good! Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. What really made our experience stand out, though, was our server, Chris. His energy, positive vibe, and attentiveness were top-notch from the moment we sat down. He was friendly, checked on us often without being overbearing, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Oji is such a good restaurant to enjoy an amazing selection of rolls and sushi. I go here regularly and my favorite appetizers in the menu are the crispy squid legs, spicy edamame and the house salad. THE LUNCH SPECIAL is also very well thought of and is so cost efficient! They also have a special to reduce the price when you're one of the first 10-15 customers!!! Luckily my lunch is during the time they open. The service is also matching how great their food is. Jenns is so attentive and has a great attitude. Very patient and great energy. OH and The music is really good in this establishment. Whoever they have on Aux knows what's up. You basically go in, choose the ingredients you want in your hot pot and then go to the end where your food will be weighed. You then choose a flavor for your soup, they hand you a number, and then you sit down and wait for your food. I got the Tom yum soup which was great - very tasty. My bowl came out to be about $17 and I was pretty full from it. After you finish eating, they give you a soft served ice cream (black sesame) which was so yummy! Anyway for the experience / service - Since it was my first time, the worker had to explain the process to me but she was sooo soft spoken, I can barely hear her so I just figured it out myself. We did bring cake to the restaurant and maybe it's not a traditional place to celebrate? But they were nice enough to help us store the cake in the fridge. However, when they brought it out for us, I guess I thought they would offer forks or a small bowl or plate for the cake. None of that was offered. We had to flag down someone and asked but the guy only gave us forks so we just looked at each other. And ended up grabbing the sauce bowls as our plates. My dad also some restrictions with biting large pieces of food so we asked for scissors and they did not have any. We ended up going next door to Daiso to buy a pair of scissors. Overall, this place is not extremely accommodating for these extra requests but the food is good. There's some happy hour but signs are not at every table so I had to zoom in on the poster to see what the deals were.

While we understand that it was a busy evening and waited patiently to be seated, the prolonged wait time for our food was quite frustrating. Despite being seated promptly, it took over an hour for our orders to be served. Throughout this time, we were not checked on for refills nor were we provided with any explanation for the delay. What compounded our disappointment was observing other patrons, who arrived after us, receiving their orders promptly while we continued to wait without any communication or updates on our own order status. The only reason we remained at our table was because our daughter's kids' platter was served promptly. We came to this sushi spot thanks to a friend who suggested it as a place for our group to meet up, and overall it was a great find. The ambiance was inviting and comfortable, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy the evening together. The sushi was fresh, well prepared, and the service was impressively quick. There were a couple of minor downsides. They didn't have sodas available, so one of our friends had to grab drinks from next door, and as the night went on they started running out of ingredients for some of the simpler dishes. That said, the staff was genuinely kind and very apologetic, which we appreciated. The happy hour prices were extremely reasonable, especially for the quality of the food, and that alone makes this place worth returning to. My recent visit to Oji Sushi & Sake Bar in Montebello was overall decent. The food and service were both satisfactory, but there was nothing that truly stood out to me. Out of all the dishes I tried, the salmon toro was definitely the best. The sushi was fresh and the flavors were well balanced. However, the atmosphere of the restaurant left something to be desired. It felt like a chain restaurant, lacking the unique and intimate vibe I look for in a dining experience. The service was polite, but not particularly memorable. For these reasons, I would rate my experience at Oji Sushi & Sake Bar in Montebello a 3 out of 5 stars.
