Second time here (first was about 3 years ago). We were nearby, so we stopped in. The menu had plenty of food and drink choices. We tried the strawberry Japanese soda, it tasted like strawberry Fanta but was super annoying to drink with the narrow bottle, and the unnecessary little ball it contained kept blocking when drinking. Sushi was just as good as we remembered, very tasty. My son loves soups, so he got the ramen and enjoyed it. Service was excellent. Our server was sweet, attentive, and quick with everything. Good experience overall. The reason for 4 stars is due to the dirty plates set on the table. Two of the three were sticky. I simply grabbed the one that was on the table next to us (hah). I feel bad for this review but want to be honest. My husband and I came here due to all the positive reviews and the AYCE sushi. A lot of the reviews say that the sushi quality is very good, but I have to disagree. I also feel like most of the recent reviews might not be so genuine as they do give you free dessert if you leave them a review and show it to the server, which is posted on their tables. We ordered takoyaki which ended up being uncooked/raw and frozen inside. We also ordered edamame that was soaked in sauce. Some of the sushi simply was not edible. A few of my salmon rolls had a strong fish smell, in which I spit out. The rolls themselves are nice and large but are souped with LOTS of sauce, to the point that some were more like saucy sushi soup. The imitation crab was super mayonnaise-y and again, didn't find this appetizing. I felt pretty grossed out during our dinner. The positive is that the service was great. Solid 4 stars. The waitress's checked on us multiple times and were quick and friendly. They also charge you $1.50 a piece for each sushi you don't finish. We felt pressured to eat everything even though we both were afraid of eating the questionable sushi, and getting sick. We ended up paying extra in the end to not finish our meal entirely. We asked for a table for two around 9 PM on a Saturday, and the waitress (no exaggeration) visibly threw her head down, sighed loudly, and told us to sit wherever we wanted. Everybody else that came in around the same time was seated with menus, but after seating ourselves we had to wait 10 minutes for service. When we were finally served, our waitress (the same one that told us to seat ourselves) didn't ask if we wanted AYCE or à la carte, just brought us one (1) à la carte menu to share, apologized for only having one menu, and left without taking our drink order. We waited another 15 minutes for service and ultimately decided to leave when we noticed our waitress serving other customers that had come in after us. I'm sure the sushi here is great, but the service was so abominable we unfortunately had to leave without trying it. We will not being coming back. read more

If you're hungry, this place will fill you up! The portions are very generous and they have so many options on their menu, along with a selection of alcoholic beverages. The cucumber salad was different and a great palette cleanser. Service was so so nice, they do a great job welcoming their guests and being attentive. The restaurant looked clean and we did not come across any issues during our stay. With that said, I feel like the flavors of the sushi rolls were all kind of the same considering the crab meat was the main ingredient of the rolls. The cucumber roll had some good peices of sushi but also another questionable grey looking filling. We ate it, we're fine. But really nothing spectacular, especially if you're more of a sashimi sushi kinda lover. I say the prices were pretty fair! Give it a try for yourself. :) read more

For sushi in this area, this place was unexpectedly decently GOOD!!! And REALLY GOOD considering this area does NOT appear to be known for their Japanese food. Their hamachi Kama was extremely well made. It was very light and flavorful, they didn't over cook it like a lot of places do. It was well seasoned and very buttery. My friend enjoyed her special albacore cut roll a lot. She was especially appreciative of the heaping pile of julienned onions and sauce with some heat piled on top. I ordered The dragon roll because I live unagi. This was a perfectly made unagi on the outside roll. I appreciated that they went easy on the sauce drizzling, usually I can do without the extra sauce drizzling. The one thing I don't like was the tonkatsu curry rice. Food was good. Service was GREAT. There are two young ladies working the front and the tables. That are very attentive and welcoming. Helped to answer all my questions about dietary needs and guided me to some really food. All in all I would say this is a must visit in Montebello. I will be back again. The edamame was my favorite. My only suggestion would be to have a steamed vegetable or grilled vegetable option. But that is my personal opinion as o do not do fried items and I can't eat rice. Would love to substitute my base for a plain vegetable. I loved my salad. A little less dressing next time. But the Crab and Crawfish was delicious. read more

Let me start by saying: this wasn't just dinner -- this was a betrayal. My best friend and I came in for what was supposed to be a chill, treat-yourself kind of night. We opted for the all-you-can-eat sushi -- because why not go big? The place was quiet, fine, nothing alarming at first. We start ordering. Everything's decent at the beginning. Then... the salmon nigiri hits the table. One whiff and I should have known. It had that off smell. But I convinced myself it was fine -- maybe just stronger than usual. I took a bite. I ignored it and kept eating. It tasted like the ocean's trash bin. Still, I told myself I was overthinking it. Mind over matter, right? Wrong. Then I made the fatal mistake of going to the restroom. I don't know what sort of unholy events took place in there, but I can only describe it as the final scene of a horror movie -- toilet water was literally tinted green, there were brown streaks all over the sink like someone fought for their life and lost, and Dookie residue haunted the bowl. I stood there questioning my existence, making executive decisions like, "Do I hover and risk a leg cramp or just let my bladder explode?" It took me a solid five minutes to decide what to do. Hover or barf or run out and use the men's. now i'm stuck in there battling my thoughts and urges to vomit. also wondering who did the heinous crime left behind? I didn't need help barfing. The restroom and my thoughts were doing all the work for me. one more second of thinking and i would have committed another restroom crime I came back to the table shell-shocked. I tried to keep it cute. Round two of food rolls in. And guess what? Same stinky, funky salmon nigiri. The exact same haunting taste that brought back flashes of that demonic restroom. At this point, I was actively fighting off the urge to vomit from trauma. We flagged down the server. She brought over the manager. My bestie, being kind and composed, suggested some sort of discount, because honestly -- this was not okay. Dude gave us a $10 gift card... for our next visit. and he also said that he tasted the fish himself and said it was fine. I asked if I could just use the gift card now, since there was no chance in hell I'd ever set foot in that building again. He said no and i ended up paying the exact whole price for stinky fish. read more

Seated in a little strip mall, Sakura sushi is definitely a sushi place I would come to again. First of all, the young dude wearing the beanie was super friendly and attentive, we noticed that he was the only one seating people, taking phone orders, serving food, and bussing tables. He honestly kicked a**. Near the end of our meal another person in Japanese restaurant attire assisted him, so it wasn't as hectic. The food is actually five stars for me. The taste of the food is exactly how I would have wanted it. I think that if I would have placed a To-go order I would have given this place 5 stars, but unfortunately we decided to dine in and that is where I didn't have the best experience and decided to give 4 stars. I did get seated right next to a dusty, dirty air filter or a/c unit. I totally could have moved a seat over, but it was still almost up against our table and it wasn't pleasant to look at. I did have several flies around my table and had to swat them off my food a couple times. Another issue I had was that our California sushi roll came out before we even got our drinks (we just ordered waters). I thought that was wild considering most places take awhile before the sushi even comes out. The sushi portions are definitely generous, but almost too generous. I ordered a chicken and avocado roll. It seemed liked they just gave me one or two chicken breasts with it. I was left with half a plate of chicken after I finished my roll. I know for many people, this might seem weird to complain about, but I personally like my sushi ingredients just in the roll itself and clean looking. It was definitely 2 or 3 bites to finish each piece. Huge! And honestly worth the money. We also had plain udon noodles and Omg it was delicious. I over-stuffed myself for the udon noodle. Absolutely delicious! They ended up not having military discount but they did have free Wi-Fi. Give this place a shot. It's so good! read more
