This review is NOT a reflection of the team. They are always so kind and understanding whenever I ask "are the glazed donuts soft today?" With Salty's menu expansion, I was hesitant to show excitement; how can a restaurant be good at "everything" on their menu after adding more items. I never expected the classic menu items to be included in the "everything" that missed the mark. Needless to say, I'm a little more than salty that I can no longer enjoy the classic glazed donut as a treat.

The sweetness from the chocolate frosting, Oreo cookie, and peanut butter drizzle was a little too sweet for my liking, but still good. Given its hefty size it looked like I barely did any damage to it. It wasn't going to waste and was polished off in the morning as part of my breakfast. Recently, I made the drive to her current shop in Irving, Texas. It's a bit of a distance for me, but I truly enjoy supporting businesses like this. The new location is such a step up cute, welcoming, and in a great area. I treated myself to butter pecan ice cream with Fruity Pebbles, and it honestly reminded me that even as an adult, it's okay to enjoy the little things that bring happiness. I highly recommend that the business remains in this location; the community was incredibly welcoming and clearly excited to have ZZ's Ice Cream there. Amazingly, we got to try them all and with all the salty, savory food we started to look for some dessert to balance out our palate. That's when we stumbled on a stand that advertised cake balls. Yup. CAKE BALLS. We were all pretty full, but still wanted to try them all. I mean, when you're presented with the choice of Snickers, Oreos, Butterfinger, Cinnamon and Sugar, [Fruity] Pebbles, or Cherry Glaze it's pretty hard to single out the best flavor. I ended up getting their 3 most popular ones: Snickers, Butterfinger and Pebbles. There's one thing that you need to know about these cake balls. They're not like any other you've tasted. Usually, cake balls are made from a mixture of cake batter with a lot of icing to keep it moist. Beckett's method is to use a donut hole as the base encased in a layer of their own special frosting with your choice of candy or cereal. It sounds simple and mundane, but I can assure you that these were some of the best cake balls I've ever had in my life. The donut base was pillowy and moist. With the super sweet frosting it melded perfectly into what seemed like a piece of heaven in every bite. The crushed candy was the icing on the cake, per say, adding different flavors and textures to each ball. I really can't explain it more than I have. It was just pure awesomeness. In an environment where pretty much everything is fried it was a welcome surprise to find a stand that served something different. I spoke with the owners and they said they were in the process of relocating their business from Tulsa, OK to Dallas. Their presence in the Big D will allow us to enjoy some of these awesome cake balls year round instead of having to wait until the State Fair runs each year. Happy dance. The beignets were made fresh to order and took about 7 minutes to come out. They were hot, soft, and very fluffy, almost more similar to a donut than a traditional beignet. Since most of my beignet experience comes from New Orleans, Louisiana, I definitely had a different texture in mind going in. I personally wish they had been a little crispier, especially around the edges, but they were still decent and enjoyable. Overall, I had a good experience.
