I had a craving for a quesadilla the other night. Seeing as how it was around 11, I realized all the Mexican places where I was were closed, oh but wait not "YUMMY" Taco. I ordered a chicken quesadilla with jalapenos. I quickly glanced around the place to notice the all Asian staff and the less than clean seating area. All of a sudden a loud whirring noise sounded, and I looked to see the dough being flattened in a high tech machine. Soon my quesadilla was being made. A young Asian lad with ear buds in ear and cell phone in hand put a glove on with the other hand and proceeded to make the quesadillas as an older woman (mom?) looked on smiling. I really didn't care as long as my quesadilla tasted good. Well after about 5 dollars later (is that even a good price? i dont think so), I was eating what I hoped to be a delicious quesadilla. I was sadly proven wrong. The cheese had melted into what became a hard crust almost along the edges, and the sour cream had no taste. The chicken tasted alright, but the jalapenos were not a good mix. Street, metered parking that is hard to even get a spot in. Overall a bad experience and a somewhat costly one at that. After perusing Barnes & Nobles, my friend and I were incredibly starving. I've always been a fan of shady Mexican establishments, but this place just gave me the creeps. The portions were great (I got the chicken enchilada, and my friend got the chicken quesadilla which resembled a chicken quesadilla pie instead), but that whirring noise made us fear for our lives. We were positive they were massacring babies/cats/cat-babies in the back there and we were going to be in a real-life reenactment of those Saw movies. It's a no frills kind of spot. If you head over when it's busy you won't be able to eat there since there isn't much room to sit but I usually do take out anyway. Yelp says they take credit cards....well last time I checked they don't. Not sure whats up with that but there's a Citibank right across the street where you can get some cash. So far the only issue I've had with this place is that they never seem to hold the jalapenos when I ask them too. I don't like them and wish they would stop automatically adding them. Prices are good for the amount of food. Service is speedy, friendliness of the staff is just average. The food itself tastes good, but I think the guacamole is really watered down and they add too many other things to it like tomatoes. Plain guac would be ok for me. Yes, everyone has heard the noise. I guess if it bothers you so much you have the option of waiting for your food outside or checking out some of the nearby stores. read more

Great Mexican food; ran by Chinese. I'm not Mexican, but I sure know rice and beans and apparently they do as well. I ordered the steak combo. The steak was soft and well seasoned. It comes with rice, well seasoned beans, delicious freshly made tortilla, lettuce& tomato, and sour cream. I have been going there almost every day for the past couple of weeks. One wish is for a more complex salad since I don't eat tomato, but the food is delicious! read more

Is it scary that there is a sound coming from the kitchen eerily similar to that of a dying fawn? Yes Is it strange that that cheese isn't a mandatory component in their tacos? Chinese Tex Mex huh? That sounds kind of strange, but I guess as strange as Mexicans working in the back of most of the Chinese restaurants we all go to. There isn't a long line coming out of te place but we decided to try it anyway. The most appealing thing about this place was it's prices but I have a feeling that the person who came up with this line 'You get what you pay for' ate at this place before he created this wonderfully fitting piece of 'food for thought'. For the most part, the grilled chicken and meat were good, the bread for the fajitas was really good, but the rice, beans, and salsa was really bad - kind of like it has been sitting around for quite some time - and perhaps it has been for all we've known. (Rice, beans and salsa, to me makes or breaks a good tex mex meal. Meat is not very difficult to get right (and if you don't get it right - you really shouldn't be in business). If you're looking for a cheap meal but nothing special, go for it - but buyer's beware - you might need to have a roll of teepee waiting for you about an hour after the meal. Enjoy. read more

I know this is not mexican food; if you thought this was "real" mexican food before you went, you must not get out much. Whatever you want to call it, it's cheap, plentiful, delicious and they deliver. Yes, it is very similar to all the other faux-mexican food/burrito places that are scattered around, but this place is better than most I've been to. And it has a relatively extensive menu. I'm surprised this place only has 3 stars. I've always found the food here to be very good and fresh. (Disclaimer: I'm a vegetarian so I can't vouch for the meat.) I love the black or pinto bean tortillas with cheese and usually get a bunch of them. And I just found out that they deliver to Briarwood so I'll probably be ordering from here a lot. Sometimes I go to Yummy Taco to eat during my study breaks from the Barnes and Noble across the street. I've been to other Tex-mex places and did not like them at all especially because of the quality of the chicken and beef. However, I like this place because the food tastes clean and the quality of the meat is decent. I love their Jack Cheese Quesadillas. Tex-mex chilli is a favorite of mine. They also have Chinese takeout dishes which are pretty good and don't taste like they have loads of msg and corn starch They are really fast and efficient with the orders. They should just do some simple wipe downs of their tables though. Usually not that clean. Lots of stuff to choose from the menu. read more

So I came back here again. After being mistreated in the past I decided to give them another shot. I ordered a total of $47.37 valued in food. The lady who answer the phone who I now know to be the owner of the business took my order. Every time they take my order instead of allowing me the opportunity of telling them what I want she tells me. I calmly say listen please let me tell you exactly how I want it made. It's always a miscommunication. This last time I ordered a simple taco salad. They sent me a shell that is known as a chicken tostada salad on a menu with lettuce in it. I didn't ask for... 40 plus dollars later I want my order correct. I called them to let them know that it was incorrect period instead of the lady acknowledging that it was a misunderstanding no communication she makes excuses and justify. I have dealt with these people being rude to my children for not giving them more than $3 in tip.. I have both salads with the letters was wilted and vegetables weren't fresh. When you called this business they make excuses to justify terrible service. It saddens me that we support these businesses and our communities, yet they have no respect for the patrons. I spend my hard-earned dollars supporting your business and you have no respect for me. Just take my money and at the same time be rude to me. Businesses like this need a wake up call.. I will never be spending my money in this establishment again. And I wouldn't recommend any of my friends and Associates to do so either... But some people have to learn for themselves.. So if you decide to order from this establishment, please take a close watch to how you are treated. Make sure all your food is fresh and make sure your order is right. OKAY IT"S NOT AUTHENTIC! It's just quick, cheap and easy. If you wanted "real" Mexican food go some place not named Yummy Taco. They have a lot of good specials and the amount of food you get for your money is a lot. I've never had a problem there and I go there like twice a week. I also disagree with Yelp on the noise level, it's not loud by any stretch. Sometimes it's hard to understand them on the phone I prefer to go in and order, never takes them more than 10 minutes to make. read more

I was hungry and thought I'd try this place since I live walking distance.. 1-24-17 I ordered 3 chicken fajita tacos, 2 hard shell beef with all the fixins... I'd say stick to chicken here, the beef was beyond oily, the shell was soaked in oil and the beef tastes weird not sure what they season it with but it's not good. They give u heaps of it as if they're tryna get rid of it lol, wish they'd done that with the chicken. Funny note: they dumb the beef on top of the fixins (lettuce, tomato and sour cream) very interesting assembly method for a taco haaaa 3.5 stars but I'll come again and try some other stuff soon. I order from here about every 2 weeks and notice the service is better on the weekends...fresher food and faster deliveries. Istopped ordering tacos with hard shells because even tho i live 10 mins away, the delivery was sometimes 40mins and the hard tacos were soggy by then. Lately ive noticed faster delivery, maybe because im a regular customer now. They always serve a lot of food at a good price. Ranges from $3.00 - $8.00 per plate depending on what you order. The only thing about this place, EVERY TIME WE ORDER for delivery, OUR ORDER IS WRONG WRONG WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ask for an extra sour cream, they will charge us for the extra sour cream which is $1.25 and they never send it. Always mix up orders and always forget to send something. It is such a shame, we stopped ordering from there. They are missing out on a lot of money. We would spend always more then $30.00. read more

I went in here to grab a soft taco around 8 p.m. and the floor was apparently mopped because they had a caution sign on the floor... Mopped with what though???? I do not know... I have been back on several occasions since the last time I reviewed & things were back to normal for a while but these last 2 times, things have gone from bad to worse!! About a month ago I called in for the grilled chicken and guacamole special. When I got home & started eating it, something was just not tasting quite right. I actually thought the place was sold because when I went in to pickup, none of the usual "family" members were around that I could see... Just last week I decided to give it one more try so this time I ordered the original meal that I fancy most which is the grilled steak & guacamole. When I went to pickup this time, the normal crew seemed to be back in action. I took that as a good sign... When I got home this time I was extremely disappointed by how terrible the food was! First off, there was hardly any steak like they used to give in the past. Honestly though, that was ok because I ended up throwing away most of the meat due to how terrible it was. It was sliced thicker than it used to be & it seemed under cooked & rubbery. It was just nasty to say the least! The tortillas were hard as a rock. They also gave less guacamole than in the past. The rice was bland & tasteless. Even the red sauce/hot sauce tasted strange... And the kicker was the "free" soda tasted weird too so I checked the date & it had expired in December 2015! I don't understand why New Yummy Taco only has Three stars ! I always get the Black bean and jack cheese quesadilla and it never fails to satisfy me!!! Delivery was prompt which was great considering I was extremely hungry although the food was cold, chicken felt as if it's been sitting on display all day, nachos were stale, tacos were stale as well. The only thing I enjoyed from my order was the salad, the veggies were fresh and the beef was well prepared although it was cold. Safe to say I will never be ordering from Yummy Taco again. First and last time. For an order to be placed at 4pm on a Sunday you would expect a much fresher and higher quality of food. Quality control is nonexistent at this place. "fresh" tortillas? I think not. I've tasted store bought, mass produced, sealed in a plastic bag tortillas that tasted better and were probably fresher than these. I guess being originally from Texas my expectations were way too high but seriously...I could have gone to Taco bell if I wanted "Tex-Mex" food. I ordered the chicken tacos...never again. The tacos were 75% lettuce and tomato 25% meat, thinking back now that's probably not a terrible thing because the chicken was burnt. I just finished eating a steak burrito here. Overall it tasted great. The portion was huge with a lot of steak, unlike other places that might be cheap with the meat. Their burrito costs two dollars cheaper than chipotle and tastes even better. My new go to place for burritos. read more

So Yummy Taco IS NOT Authentic Tex-Mex food obviously but for an inexpensive price, the food here is pretty good and this place has become my go to for a quick bite. Situated in Fresh Meadows, I've been coming to Yummy Taco for many years (The staff know me by now LOL). I usually order from the Yummy Plates, the Jack Cheese and Chicken Quesadilla with the French Fries. This is definitely my go to order! While at times I do get from their specials, usually the Grilled Chicken Special which comes with two pieces of tortillas, rice, beans and lettuce and tomatoes. Like I said, this isn't authentic Tex-Mex food but for an affordable price, it's a good place to grab a quick bite. Being that its situated right by St. John's University this can definitely be a go to place for a college student on a budget lol. read more
