Please note that I have not yet worked on a project with Z construction, and this review is only about a phone consultation. I called Jason just after looking up well-reviewed DC contractors on Yelp. In short, another contractor has been in default of my contract with him and has not delivered on a very large and expensive project. After getting fed up I looked into my legal options and also other contractors to finish the work I've started. Despite my calling him totally unsolicited on a Friday evening, Jason talked with me for nearly a half hour about the multitude of options available to me to protect myself against this contractor, how to press him into action, how to ensure he gets the work done, and much more. I cannot express how much he put my mind at ease compared to the way I'd been feeling just a few minutes before our call. I hope to update this review someday with info on work we've done together, but for now that's what I'm able to share. read more

Jason arrived on time, and installed our Nest Hello (doorbell/camera). He was also very respectful of our time by communicating that he wanted to reschedule earlier in the week, and did the job on a Saturday, which was very convenient for us. Installation was efficiently done, as explained to us ahead of time, and the site was cleaned up, to include patching up the wall. Jason is very knowledgeable about setting up the proper operation of the Nest on both our smartphones, as well as the rebates we can apply for, which is also very helpful. Jason came to our home to troubleshoot a Nest thermostat that had the fan constantly running. In stark contrast to the 2 hours we spent on the phone with Nest, within minutes of looking at the HVAC, he was able to diagnose a significant (and dangerous!) electrical problem caused by its improper installation. He is friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable, inspiring confidence in an area of our home we don't know much about. We'd definitely turn to him again with any future issues! read more

They were able to do a variety of jobs from HVAC/Nest wiring, hanging blinds and hanging lighting. Jason was friendly, efficient and even offered DIY advice for projects I wasn't ready to have done. Ok I don't think 5 stars will do justice to just how amazing a job Jason did. We hired him to install a Nest Hello doorbell and 2 Nest outdoor cameras, and not only did he install those--all working great, placed in perfect locations thanks to his knowledge, and working together thanks to some tips he had on how to use the apps--when Jason was here he saw that we had a few Nest protect fire/CO monitors lying around and offered to do those as well at a discounted price! (And installed three of those in the time it would take me to get halfway through installing one). Showed up on time, was incredibly friendly and professional, explained all the steps and the different options we had as he installed each product, and overall just did an amazing job. Far and away the best experience I've had with a contractor. He even made a home depot run to get some supplies he needed to install our cameras without adding extra holes and ugly wires. Oh, and I should also say not only did he do this Home Depot run to get supplies for the cameras, but he offered to exchange the Nest protect fire/CO detectors we bought from there but bought the wrong kind and hadn't had time to exchange ourselves! All while not charging us for the time spent at or going to home depot, and even refusing out offer to pay for him to take a lyft and instead heading there and back on his electric bike! Overall Jason was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and I couldn't be happier with the job he did. As a new home owner we will definitely be hiring him again and recommend him to absolutely anyone. read more

Jason of Z Construction was fantastic installing a Nest Hello and Outdoor Camera IQ at our house. He worked efficiently and set the cameras up in an aesthetically pleasing way (and even biked over to the hardware store to get the supplies needed to make sure everything looked the best it possibly could). He has an expert understanding on the Nest suite of products, and he was helpful in communicating how to automate our boutique condo building further to improve the safety and security of the residents. Jason was awesome! He showed up right on time and was very thorough with installing our Nest doorbell. We were in the middle of a move and he was very understanding of the chaos and worked around it while also explaining every step of the process. We had to order a wifi extender for our doorbell to pick up on the wifi signal and he even had recommendations for that as well. He is extremely kind, professional, knowledgeable, and excellent at what he does. Where do I begin, Jason exceeded my expectations in every regard. He came highly recommended and now I know why. Jason came by on New Years Eve day to install an Arlo Pro security camera system for our condo building. He was very knowledgeable, experienced, and provided great guidance on how to install the system and where best to place the cameras to provide the desired coverage. He also stayed to make sure we got everything set up and working in the app and offered helpful tips for using the system. Overall, Jason did very effectively in less than 2 hours what would have taken me all day to do.
