I used to love this place and still do but today I was rather disappointed. I love their chicken Shawarma sandwich and I am usually here once a week for lunch. But today unfortunately, my chicken shawarma was 50% the normal portion size. I am not sure what happened or if they are trying to save on their ingredients. Hard to tell what salads you can choose from, whether the dips come with pita or not, what is ground meat and what is not. Maybe update menu with descriptions for people not familiar with the dishes. And ... they were open late night on New Years Day when we were hungry for dinner. We were kindly given extra food, complimentary. We ordered a falafel platter and Shish Tawouk skewer. The falafels were crisp on the outside, soft and tender on the inside and spicing was subtle. The hummus was light and flavorful and the garlic sauce properly garlicky. The hot sauce had quite a kick! The shish tawouk was coloured red, almost like boneless tandoori chicken though differently flavored. It was juicy and tender. The salad vegetables and parsley were fresh. The prices were reasonable for the location and the food flavour was comparable to some of the better food quality Middle Eastern restaurants on Lawrence Avenue East. read more

I really enjoyed my lunch here. I ordered the lamb Greek salad. The portion was reasonable and I enjoyed all the extra toppings they added for me. Extra cabbage and seasoned onions. I highly recommend adding hot sauce and garlic sauce to the lamb. My sister ordered the vegan kabob and was pretty content. She was happy with the assortment of grilled veggies. Zaad, I like you. I hope you do well! This is a place that's essentially fast food, but the interior is lovely, airy, and prettily-designed. I was won over by the free samples of addictive deep-fried pita covered in sumac, thyme and other spices while you wait for your food. I could have hung out by that plate and "sampled" for the next five minutes but was afraid of being (rightly) judged. Prices are reasonable, especially for appetizers. I got eight crispy, warm, fresh fried (not fresh-frying falafel should be a crime punishable by having to eat microwaved old falafel balls for the rest of your life. What a sad fate) that came with garlic sauce and hummus and two pillowy round pitas for five buckaroons. My dad's chicken shawarma plate was $12 for a very generous helping of tender chicken, flavourful rice, salad, and pickle. Make sure you get some of their home-made hot sauce as well. Service is nothing to write home about but it doesn't really matter when you are interacting for them for approximately two minutes. I'll be a repeat at Zaad for sure. Best middle eastern spot on Bloor!! They have amazing deals for students and others alike, but more importantly they keep it clean and neat. Came here for the first time and was blown away by the food and service. We just got take out but we were offered free falafel while we waited. Very generous portions of delicious food. We shared a platter between two people and it was plenty. We got lamb and rice Shawafel platter which was amazing! The rice was very flavourful and the sauces were a perfect compliment to the meal. So I came again on another day and they did the same thing one shawarma pocket barely had any meat. Falsely written 2 shawarmas for $10 offer outside the store got me inside this place. After entring the store and waiting for a few minutes (they are severly understaffed), I was informed that the 2/$10 offer doesn't exist. A hesitant me looked for alternatives on the menu board and ordered their 12'' wrap on the menu, going to another place was not an option for me given I had already spent some time waiting to get in front of the queue. I strongly recommend ordering online. Sharwarma was alright, not great. The chef seemed to be in a rush to prepare another order. The portion size was small for 10 bucks and definitely not filling. I would suggest to go across the street to PitaQ and get 2 stuffed sharwarmas instead of the 12'' zaad special. read more

I've been to Zaad three times. The service has been horrible every time. The food was OK the first time even though they kept serving customers who came in after me. The last two times, the food was as horrible as the service. I ordered a vegan Kabab that had half an unpeeled onion with the roots attached and an unripe tomato and the kabob was served almost completely raw. This restaurant seems like more than just a shawarma restaurant, although their shawarma pita wrap was delicious. The decor inside is beautiful and bright with gorgeous tiles, my wrap was flavourful and fresh, and the staff were cheerful and helpful! And my lamb-beef shawarma wrap was $6! (Although the prices might change once they are out of their promotional/just opened phase). I'm really excited that this place opened so close to U of T campus, and I look forward to coming back and trying other menu items. Our daughter had moved into the student residence nearby, and when we visited her, she told us about this new restaurant that had opened nearby, which she had noticed while walking by its open window. Her nose had brought us to the right place! We went there twice during our stay and enjoyed every dish we ordered. Usually I'm not very fond of eating rice in Mediterranean restaurants, but their spiced rice was delicious! The meat was perfectly cooked, the fresh veggies were nice and crunchy, the pickled ones were very tasty and it all came together in a perfect blend of flavours and textures. The food is delicious; one of the best middle eastern fast food joints in the city. However, the staff is terrible- rude and forgetful. One literally has to beg and remind them to add hummus and garlic. A pita bread with a platter is standard but they never add that to the order. The other day, they did not include falafels which is standard when you order a shawafel platter.
