I love Mediterranean cuisine. So it was a no brainer for me to check out Zad. The ambiance is upscale, with crisp, clean and new decor. Perfect place for a date night. The hostess and our waitress were young ladies, maybe high school age, and were very pleasant and full of personality. After picking our own table (booths were full), fresh pita bread with a garlicky dipping sauce and side of salsa was brought to our table. The bread was warm and tasty. The garlicky sauce had a hint of something in it that reminded me of seafood but I couldn't quite put my hand on it. The salsa was fine but an odd option, in my opinion. For my entree, I ordered the chicken kabob, which came with a salad. The salad was huge and full of fresh, thickly cut veggies. The dressing was light but good and not tangy. My food arrived about a minute after the salad so I didn't get to really enjoy the salad. The chicken (with lemon oregano added) was flavorful and plentiful. The rice tasted nutty and was lacking salt. I opted for the almonds to be on the side but they were not included. Not a deal breaker though. The carrot was very hard and could have been cooked longer. There was a slice of a dill pickle on the plate. I'm used to sautéed bell peppers and carrots with this dish so the pickle was quite the surprise. There was also a sliver of what I think was a radish on the plate as well. I'm assuming to add color. Presentation varies, it seems, according to the day you go. I had a lot of food to take with me, as they give patrons nice sized portions. Overall, Zad is a solid choice for a nice Mediterranean meal. Wonderful service, beautiful decor, and decent food earns them 4 stars from me. Check them out!

The Ranch House is conveniently located just off Columbia Road, north of Highway 31. The building…read morewas once a Pizza Hut and still retains that distinctive 1970s design. The Ranch House has been around for many years, and the parking lot always seems to be full. I had heard it was excellent for breakfast, but I was curious about what other options they offered. The restaurant has changed ownership several times over the years, yet it has maintained a loyal following. My friends and I stopped in for lunch on Monday, and I was impressed by how large the menu is. The sweet spot here is the classic meat-and-vegetable combinations. The term "meat and three" is part of the Southern vocabulary -- especially in Alabama -- and The Ranch House does it well. The meat and vegetable selections rotate daily, and there's enough variety that you should easily find something you'll enjoy. The restaurant also includes "Markarios" in its name, and you'll notice Mediterranean influences sprinkled throughout the menu. For lunch, I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap along with a Markarios side salad. The chicken was nicely seasoned and full of flavor, and the salad was fresh and excellent. Overall, a solid local spot with something for everyone.

They did remake it but then the grits were like water with lumps and instead of being in a bowl they are served on the plate - No taste to the food. The biscuit turned very hard after a few minutes like it had been cooked earlier and then microwaved prior to serving. Then we noticed the price on the check was not accurate when compared to menu. This is the second time this has happened to us there - the waitress pointed to a place on the menu that says an up charge for eggs. Well I guess they can charge whatever according to that. We'll also had to constantly flag people down to get service. A totally different atmosphere than years past
