I absolutely love this place! I eat here all the time. I generally get the gyro plate. You can't beat it for price and quality of food. It's only ten bucks and you get pita bread, tzatziki sauce, gyro meat, rice, and a salad in a pita bowl with onions, mushrooms, tomato and a wonderful vinaigrette. While I must admit that I think the gyro meat is a little too soft, I come here because the ingredients are fresh and because the sauces and the salad are really good. Do not forget to get a bag of the fresh pita chips. They are only a little over a dollar and are so amazing that you will ask yourself why didn't you get two or three more bags. I've driven by this place many times, and I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the steak shawarma sandwich, baba ghanoug, and hummus. I liked the baba ghanoug and hummus, both of which seemed fresh, but I did not like the steak shawarma sandwich. The ingredients just didn't seem fresh. The steak was quite tough and chewy, and it didn't have a good taste. I wasn't sure what to think of the vegetables in the wrap. The pita wrap itself was a little dried out and, thus, on the tough and chewy side. I'm willing to give this place another shot and order something else only because hole-in-the-wall ethnic food places are my specialty. read more

I have to admit I was disappointed after returning here many years later. I used to work close by and regularly would drop by. Restaurant shares location with ethnic grocery store and pastries. I had the Chicken Shawarma. It wasn't bad just have had much better elsewhere. The one plus that it includes a small side of Hummus unlike other places was offset by the Pita Chips seemed to be overcooked. Previously I had always gotten the Gyro, so maybe that contributed to my disappointment. Regardless I doubt I will be back, I've tampered with the memories too much. read more

For this review, I am looking at Naji's Pita Gourmet Restaurant! This place serves Lebanese food (and let me tell you, I haven't had such great food since I was actually in Lebanon!!). The location is in its own building on the side of a road and is a classic case of a cozy, delicious hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The atmosphere was amazing, and the restaurant was very clean! Furthermore, this is a family-owned business, so it has all the character and personality one could wish for. Regarding service, the staff were quick and helpful, and they walked me through the menu and what I should order. For the food, I can easily say it is among the best Lebanese food in Birmingham! I ordered the Kafta Platter (which was recommended), the Hummus appetizer (which comes with pita), the Baklava (for desert), and Najjar coffee. Everything I ordered tasted amazing (as it reminded me of my time in Lebanon), had a reasonable cost, and complimented the overall meal experience. My Groupon brought me to Naji's and I'm so glad it did. (Groupon is still available!) Staff was nice and although there were no pictures of food items, he offered to explain each item. I ordered the falafel which this was my first time ever having one and I did not like... and the CHICKEN PITA CRISP which I highly recommend! Had the chicken pita wrap or Chicken Pita Crisp as they call it at the restaurant. Chicken, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms and cheese. With a small hummus and pita chips. I will say that the wrap was a good wrap. Decent size and good flavor. Chips over cooked. Hummus was bland but decent. Overall the location seems clean, dated but clean. My 3 is for the level of customer service for the lady who worked the orders. She didn't greet me, she seemed inconvenienced as I waited on her and asked some basic, first visit questions (descriptions on the menu would help). She was very curt and borderline rude. After I placed my initial order I decided that I wanted to add a side salad. When I asked her she sighed and said "well I would have to void and run the order again", as if my request was painful. Great local place in the amazing city of Homewood. I stopped and had a quick lunch with some friends. Okay Naji's, I want to love this place I really do! We came in late one night and had the place all to ourselves. We ordered a a chicken pita, fatoosh with chicken, and a shawarma. They were all great, but I think that I was expecting a bit more. The salad dressing is amazing and would be a million times better on the potatoes than the lemon juice from concentrate that filled up a third of the bowl that the containers came in. The lemon juice was just a bit much. I liked the fatoosh salad, but the fried pita chips were heavy on the grease and a little too over cooked. We were hoping for fresh homemade pita bread and humus, but it wasn't there. The staff was very nice and I know that we'll give it another chance. read more

I have never had Lebanese food before, However I stopped in to check this place out.This location is wonderful,quiet, and quick on the food preparation. There were two employees there a male cashier and a female cook, both were very pleasant and accommodating. Well, not many people know this place simple because of its location. The food is tasteful, but the interior could use some help. It's one of those places that you need to travel to. Really, 3 1/2 stars. Restaurant is attached to a small grocery mid-east grocery. Parking is mostly right off West Valley right before a hill crest in the road, so not the easiest place to pull in and out off safely. The restaurant itself isn't particularly clean, and the seating area is quite cramped. Not much room to sit down, stretch out and relax. The food is good. I haven't been here for years even though I work nearby. I ordered the Kafta sandwich. It was served on a fresh pita with hummus. Naji's is a great authentic Mediterranean restaurant. They have a great menu which includes but is not limited to chicken shawarma, lamb gyro, kafka, and more. I had the lamb gyro with a side order of hummus on this particular trip. It was all very good but not amazing. I would definitely eat it again but it's not the best in town. I've had my share of Gyros and this place serves some of the worst. This is not fresh off the pike so do not expect flavor. Instead, you'll get a plate of gyro that taste like it was frozen, thawed in a microwave and then seared slightly in a skillet to mislead you. Awful. read more

I was introduced to Naji's this summer and I can honestly say, I am hooked on this place because they have really good authentic Mediterranean food. Can only speak to the little grocery section not the restaurant as we haven't tried it yet. We make pit stops to get their fresh baked pita pockets (as do several of the local Bham Greek restaurants as well) and olives, middle eastern yogurt, and some bulk packaged spices. Great food. Great service unless it's the owners daughter helping you. She was all too happy after to make sure I knew she was the owners daughter. She was too self absorbed to even admit she was wrong. I sat on the phone for 15 minutes trying to place an order and she put me on "hold" ( putting the phone off the hook where I can sit there listening to her socialize. I finally give up on the phone order and decided to go place my order in the business and wait for my food. When I got there, she "apologized" and said they were just so slammed. Thing is, there was only two people eating at the time. So my advice... If Najis has more than two people in their restaurant, they're just too "slammed". I don't care who you are, if you can admit your mistake, you don't need to be working at a restaurant. And also even though the food is great, the stuck up owners daughter has assured that I won't be going back. Also Najis, I don't think a tube top is appropriate wear for work. I ate at Naji's Pita Gourmet for the first time today with my boyfriend, and let me just say, it was absolutely the best food that I have had in the "fast-casual" genre in Hoover. The server was sweet and helpful, and the food came out fast. The owner, Naji, made sure to greet and speak to all his customers. I had the Chicken Pita Crisp and my boyfriend had the Steak Shawrma (sp?) with an appetizer of hummus, and it was absolutely original and delicious. Our new favorite place to eat! read more
