I was completely blown away by the quality of service and products here. Before my appointment I observed the owner delighting her patrons with knowledge and wine, and after my treatments I was happy to receive the same outpouring of hospitality! We talked about everything from skin to the meaning of life before hugging goodbye like long lost sisters. I'd never had my feet washed in a copper bowl before a message until coming here. There was something so intimate about this detail that it's still floating around my head weeks later. The massage itself was more than I'd expected to be honest. I don't usually get the issue I come in with RESOLVED, but here that's what happened. I expected to feel better but I didn't expect the total elimination of the knots in my neck. The very last thing he did was a stretch of my arm behind my back while on my stomach that was made possible by the 60 minutes of warming and loosening my body. The stretch was combined with holding a pressure point on each side which was so exactly right the knot released and melted away in that moment. Color me impressed. I have had dozens of facials over the years, and when I relocated to the NYC/NJ area, I was on the hunt for someone in my area. I overwhelmed by the number of spas, so I started with the highest Yelp reviews, sticking as close to my house as possible, which included Downtown Jersey City as well as Lower Manhatten. After a lot of trial and error, I found Najat. Consider yourself lucky if you find her too. Over the last two years, I have had several facials and peels ( a few brow waxes as well) with Najat, and she is, hands down, the best esthetician I have ever encountered. I have always used great skincare products ( Erno Lazlo, Dr. Dennis Gross, Yonka, Skin Ceuticals, etc.). I have taken pretty good care of my skin, i.e., always wash my face before bed, etc., but after my incredible results at Zahara, I doubled down and started using her line of skincare. Najat works with her longtime chemist on the formulations, many of which she's had for many years. They are organic and free from all the fillers and junk you get, even with super high-end lines like La Mer (which made me break out). She is magic. Her products are incredible and have changed my skin. My skin was pretty good before, but now it's the best it's ever looked. I use her Milky Way cleanser, both her Vitamin C and Lactic and Retinol resurfacing serums, Juvatinol a few times a week, eye cream daily and Le Creme de Zahara. Her Cherry Peel is my absolute favorite mask - you can eat it. Literally. Her products are on the expensive side, and it was a big step for me, but I've found that they last a very long time. I replace every 3-4 months. Cost per use is definitely on par with what I was spending before, and the results are amazing. I selfishly have not written a review until now. I am moving away and felt like I should let the next lucky person (or people) find her too. Based on the reviews decided to book an appointment for a much needed massage. SO glad that I did. Luis was fantastic. He is a professional, and mindful. I was really stiff and full of tension. After one hour I felt SO much lighter and relaxed. When it was over, I wished I had booked the 90 mins session. I will be back in the next few weeks so Luis can continue to work through my knots. Also, I liked the texture and feel of the oils that were used during the hot stone massage. Can't explain it except that it was soothing and smooth and absorbed well into the skin. I have been getting massage for 15 years and even dated a massage therapist, so I can say with confidence that I know what is proper practice and what is not. The "therapist" was not only unprofessional in her massage technique but also believed herself to be a chiropractor. After attempting to "crack" my back and shoulders, I ended the massage immediately and complained to the owner. If I had wanted my back cracked in any way I would have gone to a doctor in the first place. The owner "fired" the therapist on the spot and then begged me not to sue. Weeks later I find out that the "therapist" is STILL giving massage there. I am shocked by all the positive reviews on Yelp for this place. I will never go back and cannot recommend this spa to anyone. Shame that yet another DTJC boutique has turned out to be a sham establishment, like so many others. This was probably one of the best massage experiences I've had in a while. Ive had a few massaged in my time and enjoyed them - but this experience I not only got my aches to feel better but also felt like I was pampering myself. The treatment by everyone there really made that happen. Najat, the owner and aesthetician, is great. She is very out going, fun and makes you feel comfortable right away. The spa itself is very clean and has a relaxing atmosphere. Lois did my massage and one I told him what was bothering me he went to town. Before you start everyone gets a nice warm foot scrub to get things started and you have great essential oils to choose from. He uses those oils and has you inhale them deeply a few times to help you calm down. It was great. As far as the massage, you can tell Lois knows what he is doing. He did an awesome full body massage and really focused on the areas he found problematic. It hurt so good. They have tea, water, coffee before and snacks while you wait - and have a bottled water waiting for when you get out of your treatment room, as in Lois was waiting for me with water in hand. Even though Zahara is located in Jersey City & I live in Manhattan (where there is a competitive, saturated market for day spas) I still do the reverse commute to see Najat. I have breakout prone, combination skin. I had gone to other establishments for facials & have used an array of products but still was not seeing the results I was hoping for. The improvement in my skin regarding tone, texture, clarity, & evenness since seeing Najat is amazing. She customizes my facials to what my skin needs. I am also able to get microdermabrasion, which I love, & have thorough extractions. I prefer more of a clinical facial which is what I am able to get with Najat. The products available at Zahara, created by Najat, are all awesome. I use a number of her products which are made entirely of organic, natural ingredients. The price points are reasonable as well considering the quality of what you are purchasing. This is a "mom & pop" type of establishment, complete with quirks. I personally prefer that. I have been going to Zahara for about three years now. Zahara is the best thing ever happend to my skin. I started seeing Najat couple of months before my wedding and the way my skin transformed after that is just miraculous!! I used to have acne and dark spots on my face.I love love love love this place . Three years down the line I still use her products and go to her for maintenance, the acne hasn't come back yet. I am pregnant now and she takes care of all of my breakouts and acne due to these harmones. My face looks clear n glowy all the time. The prenatal massages here are god send to me. Entire my first tri I used to get this monsterous headaches. I used to take a lot of tylenol. I started visting Louis for a massage once every two weeks and the headaches are gone. I just wished I started earlier. I am into my third trimester now, and it came with lot of rib and leg issues. Last week I couldn't get out of my bed because of the leg pain. This place is very unassuming. It doesn't seem like it belongs in its neighborhood. Completely different environment as you walk in and the owner is super nice and energetic. I'm the type of girl who goes to Chinatown to get massages where you can hear what's going on in the next room and they time the massages down to the second on their iphones. So this was definitely a nice change. I love that they did aromatherapy albeit a bit strange to me in the beginning. I had a lady massage therapist who seemed a little iffy about what she was doing, but the massage was good. My mother in law got the entire family gift certificates to get massage and facials and we soon realized that this was a small location that wouldn't allow for all of us to come together for an experience. My husband drove me a year later to try to schedule my facial and she said that my gift card expired however there's a law that gift cards don't expire until after many years. When I shared the law she made excuses after excuses and told me that the main person wouldn't be able to do my facial and if I wanted the main person to do my facial I would have to pay a difference of $250+ My mother in law spent over $3k and it all went down the toilet. I used to love this place. First time I came 4 years ago and had amazing chemical peel with Najat that costed 225 dollars. The next year I came back it was 295, whuch is ok, half year later I came back it was 390, she didn't grandfathered me and didn't offer any discount as for constant client. Yes, her service works very well, but it works like anywhere else for half price in prime Manhattan right at the train station with many coffee ships around. Zahara is located in hole in the wall in bad part of Jersey city far from any train stops, but charges Park Avenue Manhattan prices! This is just obnoxious! Every year she comes up with an excuse that she offers the double value of the products that you'll get else where! But year to year the products are the same. She told me this time that I should go to manhattan to get same service, that I'll see for myself that it will cost $1000! Well, it's not true!!! I went to the clinic that very well known, has 5 stars reviews and big social following and their chemical peel is $250+ extractions. Plus you don't have to listen to your esthetician complain about her life during the entire session as it happens with Najat every session in Zahara day spa. I leave her place with good skin but drained after her negative attitude. I could care less if it cost decent price, but when you pay 600 for the service it has to be flawless and all about you.
