Stopped in for dinner. Actually drove to the wrong location they have two in the area. I'm not sure if it was the owner but they regretfully told me I was at the wrong location. The apologized and when I arrived at the other location the owner or restaurant runner had revived a call from the other location telling them I was coming and apologized for the inconvenience and thanked me again for the business. You don't see customer service like this very often. Top notch place for sure. I ordered a few dishes and all very very good. The chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned properly. Everything was extremely fresh and done right (not cheating on spices or lack of ingredients like other local places I've seen). I will be coming back here again keep it up. read more

Dear Taste Buds, Wasn't that a fantastic experience? Oh, you're ready for a repeat? Me too! This cafe is in a strip mall, cozied in by Korean, American and a Mexican restaurant. It's small and has some nice charm. It's not like other places where you get bread and garlic butter when you walk in but that's ok because it just means you have more room for your entree. The menu has great vegetarian and meat variety but it's the kebabs that really shine. The meat was so tender and spiced to perfection, not every place can make it like Zamaan Cafe! The portion sizes are smaller than what you would get at other places for the same prices but anything on campus will be more pricey. For dessert, there is an assortment of baklava and rice-pudding. We didn't really understand how the waitstaff worked (we first had a waitress but then the chef took over everything) but it was still good service. I was driving out of town and needed a quick food fix. I hit this place because of convenience and it's pretty easy to eat a shawarma while you're driving (okay, I know I probably shouldn't anyway - but what you gonna do?) I ordered a chicken shawarma with extra garlic. It cost me $7, which I felt was a little over-priced. It was very delicious though... so I was pretty happy about that! It got me all the way up to Traverse City without getting hungry. The parking lot is pretty decent - I was able to park right in front of the restaurant. It's a pretty busy intersection though, so you could have some issues during rush hour. The kid working in there was nice to me - so I had no issue with service, but I didn't dine in. Overall, I'd go back... but the price was a little disturbing. I get $4 shawarma in Dearborn. And I'd be okay with $5 in A2. Maybe even $6. But almost 7% seems a little over the top. Would be 5-star if they were making their own bread. That said, everything I've had seems to have a deft touch, putting it at the head of the pack for Lebanese food in the Detroit area. Yup - head of the pack. If you try only one dish, make it Karnabeet. Crisped cauliflower (blanched in the fryer perhaps?????) makes the basis for one of the best middle eastern dishes I've ever had in my mouth. I don't even like cauliflower and I've had karnabeet twice. The lentil soup is nicely done, just the right amount of toothiness. The garlic spread is super fluffly. Can't recall the name, but the kafta with tomatoe sauce is supberb. Crisp grilled on the outside, juicy on the inside. The kebabs were all very nicely done - moist, wonderful. *Many* hummus dishes - we tried 3 - all were excellent. Desert choices were lacking. The rice pudding was weak - mostly tasting of the honey. There are not many Mediterranean restaurants around Ann Arbor - especially North Campus. Zamaan Cafe offers reasonably priced food that is delicious and quick. Their French fries are delicious and their Schwarma sandwiches have all the expected ingredients. If I could, I would give this place 3.5 stars as I have had better Schwarmas - however, the staff and food is definitely worth what you are paying for. I have had better chicken at other Mediterranean restaurants. It was not the quantity that I expected for the price that was paid. I'm used to getting a separate salad with the entrée. This was more like a box meal for the price of an entrée. The salad was a minuscule amount of lettuce and tomatoes on the side. The chicken Schworm a wrap was basically the same thing but five dollars less. If you do end up going, I would highly recommend you do that instead of the entrée. The service was OK, the only server was trying her best however when it got busy she could not keep up. We did not get refills on our drinks at all. Also she was having difficulty in remembering who's food went to which table. She did this consistently all around us. When it was time to pay we weren't sure if we were supposed to go up to the counter or if she would collect the payment at the table. We decided to go up and that was somewhat of a mess as well. The person taking the payment did not know, nor ask which item was included for each person. One member in our party almost paid for two meals. If you want to try Mediterranean, it's worth a shot. All the other reviews seem to give a good ratings, however our experience was less than good. It may just been a bad day. read more

I went twice in two days because I was in town visiting and stayed on this side of town. I like their food but the service is pretty bad at this location. Called ahead for an order and still had to wait 15 minutes AND they forgot to include my salad! The time that I dined in the tables weren't very clean and the high chair was filthy. I actually had to bust out my Clorox wipes and clean it off before I put my baby in it because it was so sticky and disgusting. They definitely need to take some time and do a deep cleaning of the whole restaurant. It also seems like they have some staffing issues that need to be resolved because the owner was in the back cooking and that's why my take out order took super long. It's unfortunate because their food is still pretty good but now I won't be in a rush to return given the service and lack of cleanliness. Another note, their cinnamon tea is waaaay too sweet! I haven't been to the Eisenhower location in a while but that used to be my go-to spot. Hopefully that one has better service and is cleaner. read more

The fried chicken was tender and juicy, not greasy, with a delicious sauce. I recommend the rice that is fluffy and flavored with bits of onion, peas and carrot slices. I also had the beans with corn tortillas and cheese and an extra side of green bananas. I didn't bother with the tortillas, but mixed the rice with the beans. I love both the green bananas and the ripe plantain with their great dipping sauce. This was my third visit. I will be back! read more

Came here around 11:30 for lunch on a Monday and it was pretty empty. By noon the whole place was full. Service was friendly. Ordered the shish combo and it was really good. While the food is still fresh in my belly, let me share with you all the experience hubs and I had here. We had just finished up sending some stuff away at the UPS store when HUNGER hit hubs like a ton of bricks. Not much longer, I thought, until he becomes a hangry monster, and so we had to think fast. 8 Tortas was closed and right next door sat Zamaan. I read some of the reviews just before heading in that direction and was more than happy to give it a try. After some studying of the menu, and patience of a young man who kindly let us know that if we had any questions to feel free to ask, we finally decided on the Spicy Sausage, the Shish Tawook, and the Feta Falafel and a gingery, lemony drink which has a lovely name that escapes me at present. While we waited for our dinner, we decided to sit outside. I took a deep breath as I took my seat, and was engulfed in the aroma of mint. People, it can't get any fresher than that. Upon returning home we both devoured our food and everything was perfect. The chicken pieces on the skewer weren't too big, and they perfectly textured and seasoned. My drink was a perfect complement for summer, and the feta falafel was awesome. Hubs described his Spicy Sausage as creamy and spicy. Note: It was on the hummus side of the menu for context. It looks like a salad, and it would behoove anyone who tried this to get a bit of everything on their fork and then take a big bite. So, that means the feta, falafel, red onions, tomato, lettuce and dressing and then open wide. We won't be calling this place home much longer, but what a way to go. This is my first time coming to this location. The atmosphere is definitely different than the Eisenhower location. Here they have a much more casual look. So... unfortunately, the food comes out a bit slow. Not sure if that's a direct service thing but.. even though it's slow, the servers are very nice.. and handsome O_O I loved the meat shawarma I got. I asked for server substitutions.. like no parsley (who really likes parsley anyway ?!) and they accompanied them perfectly. I'm kind of nose in the air about my shawarmas and this was one of the best shawarma I've had in a while. It was also perfectly wrapped. The homemade Cole slaw was delicious. The price is a little bit more expensive than the everyday middle eastern but I'll pay a couple more bucks for amazing food. I wish they offered the fried cauliflower dish as a side.. I wish Yelp allowed half stars because this place would get 3 1/2. We were staying at the Holiday Inn next door and were desperately in need of lunch. Based on the Yelp reviews of the place in our hotel, there was no way in hell I was going there. My husband had tried this place on a previous trip and said it was good. We ordered the meat stuffed grape leaves, baba ganoush, Meza platter, and an order of chicken tawook. My husband said the grape leaves were "tasty". That means he liked them. The baba was pretty good. Nice and smoky and nicely balanced. Not too much garlic or tahini. The meza platter had hummus, tabbouleh, and falafel. The hummus was better than average, as was the tabbouleh. The falafels had good flavor but were cold. The chicken tawook was pretty good. The seasoning on the chicken wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad. Overall this place hit the spot on a day where my family and I had been up and traveling since 3am and needed food that was close and fast. I've had much better Middle Eastern food in Michigan. I don't know why but this location is hugely lacking compared to their other location. I went to the other location last year and the food was amazing. I came back and stopped here hoping for a repeat performance and was sorely disappointed. Our waitress was new which is fine and all but she didn't know anything. She could make no suggestions from the menu and had to ask her colleague many questions which she yelled across the room rather than walking over and asking. It was crude. She also forgot half of our meal somehow. Ill get into that more later though. Their meat is well cooked and tasty but the rest of the food leaves a lot to be desired. Their pita comes in suspicious plastic baggies but the hummus is good. Overall the food is decent but we had an incident with half out meal not making it to the table. We had to ask for it to be brought out and when it did finally come out, it was obvious they nuked it in the microwave. Grape leaves and falafel are two of my favorite thing but the grape leaves were steaming hot and overdone and the falafel was dried out and rubbery. I expect this kind of thing from Olive Garden or a cheap chain but not a place that prides themselves on serving authentic Lebanese/Mediterranean food. Needless to say, we won't be back. Even after we complained to the manager on duty, he basically called us liars and said there was no way the grape leaves and falafel weren't fresh. Well, considering we had to ask for them half way through our meal as they were forgotten, I don't think it's a stretch to assume they were reheated rather than new ones prepared. So it pains me to write this as I really like this restaurant as I frequently eat here and usually enjoy the food. I eat here at least a couple times a month and quality seems to be sliding and customer service while never great has, in my recent experience, been worse as well. Food is usually great. I frequently get their pita wraps to go on the way home from work. Recently all of the sandwiches in our order were inedible due to them having an overpowering flavor of raw garlic. Not sure what happened here but that has been my only food complaint. Customer Service: Where to start.... Well. If you are told your order will be ready in 10-15 minutes it might be ready in 25. I routinely add on at least ten minutes to the long end of the time estimate and still end up waiting probably 50% of the time. Twice I've shown up and my order had been given away to someone else. 15 minutes more waiting. Ive had to wait almost ten minutes for an order of plain hummus and pita that I called ahead for. Great food and great service at Zamaan Cafe. My favorites: Tabouli is great - NO stems, not mushed into paste by lazy cooks cranking the parsley through an industrial food-processor. Fresh, lemony, a bit of tomato...just like Great Aunty used to make! Any of the sandwiches are awesome...I especially love their Chicken Shwarma with the addition of Tabouli. The garlic paste is very fresh, the pickles are crisp, the meat high-quality. Wonderful silky Hummus, decent Baba, and the Karnabeet appetizer (spiced and fried cauliflower) is excellent. The only item I did not care for is any of the grape-leaves...they have a good flavor, but they are very tough. I guess I am spoiled as I have a grape-vine growing in my yard, and I freeze enough leaves in the spring for the entire year - the can/jarred variety just don't measure up. read more

I have only good things to say about Zamaan! Great food, reasonable prices, and the friendliest owner & staff. I usually get their chicken shawarma with feta. The garlic sauce on the wrap is just the right amount of garlicky, and the quality of the chicken and feta is great. The wraps are big enough that I can save some for leftovers for the next day if I am not super hungry (although I usually eat the whole wrap because it's so good). I've also tried their appetizers including the spinach pies, hummus, and salads which have all been delicious and can be nice for sharing. I came here for lunch. I was in the mood for a really delicious chicken Schwarma like I can get at Farm Grill in Novi. Since I work in Ann Arbor, driving to Novi for lunch wasn't practical. So I stopped by here to grab lunch. First off, yes, the service is atrocious. Whoever the guy is as owner, manager, whatever, his attitude is bad. I placed my order to go for a chicken Schwarma wrap and lentil soup. Every middle eastern place is judged by their lentil soup. The Schwarma? Decent. Not Farm Grill delicious, but pretty good. I would order again if I needed my fix. Lentil soup? Meh. There was no delicious under current of spices. The lemon I added to perk it up, just ended up getting lost. This place is the real deal if you are looking for great middle eastern food with prompt, friendly service at an unbeatable price. That's right, I just used the term "real deal". I can't vouch for the whole menu as I am a creature of habit. I have tried an enjoyed the following: fattoush, chicken shawarma (with and without feta), tabouleh, falafel deluxe (hummus and tabouleh), and beef shawarma. After a meal I have not once been the slightest bit disappointed or for that matter hungry. I even have my whole lab ordering most Fridays. The location is a strip mall. I ate outside, but did go in and the decor is ok. They have very large front windows which i liked. Our server seemed uninterested and even approached once with headphones on and had to take them off to talk to us. Dont worry though, the phone she was listening to was safely tucked between her you know whats in her shirt. We ordered the BBB which is eggplant broiled served with various vegetables and rice. It came without the eggplant, which was more or less the whole point of the dish!!! We also ordered the Shish combo. All the meats were nicely seasoned and cooked. The yogurt sauce (which they call garlic sauce i think) was tasty. Rice was bland. The lentil soup was spicy but somehow bland, the fatoosh salad was boring, the baklava was lacking something....overall I was very underwhelmed for a $33+tip meal and will not be going back. read more

I just had one of the best meals EVER! Working in the Ann Arbor area can make it tricky to get something delicious on the go--and the Zamaan Cafe proved me wrong. I ordered ahead of time, and picked up the eats within 15 minutes. The service was fantastic, the food was fresh and flavorful, and everything was packed up perfectly for lunch at the office.
