I love Pita King! I haven't had anything less than a 10/10 experience here. The food is so good and I highly recommend their Falafel Saj. It is incredible! Such great flavor. All of our routines were disrupted during covid and places that we never noticed before are now suddenly on our radar. That's what happened with Pita King for me. It's in the strip mall with Trader Joe's so you can order your food and then do your shopping. I think they would probably adjust the time that your order is ready based on the length of the Trader Joe's line. I've been here a few times now and everything has been tasty, the people who work here are nice, and the food is ready quickly. The portions are very large so most people could either get two meals out of one order or could share an order. It's a small place that looks like it never had much seating so they are doing takeout only currently. read more

It may sound trite to suggest that a dish contains a symphony of flavors, but that was precisely what I experienced when eating my very first kareemo wrap from Pita King. Maybe it's more like taking a stroll through a garden of delicious Mediterranean delights. Because there are so many things jammed into that rolled pita, that it would be impossible to have them all in one bite. So as you make your way down through this scrumptious treat, you experience the earthiness of the falafel, the creaminess of the hummus, the tang of the feta, the brightness of the tabouli, the caramelization of the eggplant, the juiciness of the tomato, the crunch of the pickle, and the bite of the garlic sauce. It's all rolled up in a crisp toasted pita, and that last morsel where all of the sauces have gathered up together, is the best. Oh yeah, and I asked them to add hot sauce into the mix, to spice it up even a bit more. Seriously, I don't know how I'm going to venture out and try anything else from this great little strip mall spot. The good news is since it's in the same shopping plaza as Trader Joe's I'll have ample opportunity. Perhaps, I'll swing in for a snack or two before doing my shopping. That would be a clever way to try the lentil soup, the spinach pie, or even those little sweets on the counter. They say not to shop hungry. Pita King is totally going to save the day. I do wish there wasn't a TV in the dining area. Certainly I'm in the minority on this issue, but I hate being distracted from appreciating well made food, even if it's a very inexpensive sandwich from a quick service, casual eatery. So far, this is my favorite of the little pita places scattered around Ann Arbor. However, I am still new at this game, and there's a lot more to eat. The sign on the door said that people of Yelp approved of their shop. It was totally correct! The pita I had was delicious! The chicken was seasoned nicely, and the flavor combination was all there. We started with pita and hummus, and the hummus was a delightful fluffy texture. I ended the meal with a piece of baklava. It was fresh, crispy and easy to ingest. I love good baklava! The quality of the pita bread itself was really impressive. It had a good flavor by itself. It was dense, yet had perfect air pocket separation. It really held the pita sandwich together. Pita King is the best! I've never had anything from their menu that I didn't like. The meats are moist and flavorful. The falafel is neither too heavy nor too dry. Even the fries are shockingly good--extra crispy and always served hot. I would strongly recommend making sure you get some eggplant in your wrap (Kareemo is my favorite.). I don't know what they do to their eggplant, but I'm pretty sure it involves dark magic. I don't even LIKE eggplant, nothing I've ever done to it has ever made it more than tolerable to my palate, but this is amazing: tender, creamy, savory, and not at all bitter or funky. The location of this place is great because you can get your shopping done (Trader Joe's), pick up supplies for your pet (Pet Emporium) and get some ready-made food at Pita King. The inside is simple, clean and sort of like a cafeteria (bus your own table). Service is friendly and prompt. There is a good selection of food for carnivores and omnivores. If you like variety, try the sampler plate which comes with grape leaves, falafel, hummus drizzled in a fragrant olive oil and tahini sauce for dipping. This plate is so tasty that even the garnishes should be savored. I've also tried their beef and chicken which are both juicy and cooked nicely. Not a huge fan of their lentil soup (a bit bland). I come here at least once during every visit to Ann Arbor. My normal go to is the kareemo. This time I tried the eggplant and feta. The texture of their eggplant was perfect with the other ingredients in the sandwich. I really like that they have vegetarian options. I'm also a fan of their lentil soup and baklava. My mom liked their almond cookies. I was pretty indecisive this visit because I wanted to try something different. They were very patient with me and that's something I really appreciate. As an intermittent faster with a 5 hour window (for health), I always look for just exactly the right thing to eat for my (basically) one meal a day. Today's choice was Pita King, my first time trying it and I am so glad we did! We got the mujuddara with extra onions first and it was flavorful (Moe! I want your recipe!) with seasoning in the lentils. Much better than anywhere else and better than mine (that's hard to do!). The onions were sweet and plentiful, enough for the entire plate. We also tried the grape leaves, which are stuffed with rice, tomatoes, parsley and onions. They are nice and firm and not squishy/canned. They appear to be homemade. We each had a pita sandwich: I tried the spicy chicken, which apparently is the star of Pita King. It has a nice warm feeling when it hits your stomach, not so burning in the mouth. It has feta, tomatoes, onions, pickles, garlic sauce and gyro sauce on it. I got the combo with hummus, which was smooth and lemony (also better than mine!) and a side order of fattoush- perfectly balanced dressing, not too sour and lots of little fried pita chips on top. Other half had the gyro- marinated lamb and beef gyro served on a greek pita with onions, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. The gyro meat is not from Restaurant Depot for a change, it is hand sliced and very flavorful. Not sure if they slice it there but it sure does look like it. Not sure they make their bread, which is chewy and firm enough to not leak the sandwich fillings- but they do have a pretty cool sandwich press back there! So, I had just gotten my nails done (because I love me some Bebe's folx), and I was pretty starved. Like whatever kind of food I was going to get into was not going to be pretty for anyone. To avoid this, I peeked in next door and thought the place looked clean and not nearly large enough for me to have room to embarrass myself by a ridiculous fall or trip with a tray in hand, so I went for it. (Yes, these are the things I think about when I walk into places). I was greeted by two sweet, smiling faces, who were both pretty busy. The phone wouldn't stop ringing while I was trying to decide what to get. This is a good sign, of course, that means other people are happy to eat there and depend on them for their lunch breaks. I decided on the chicken shawarma plate, complete with: marinated sliced chicken and garlic sauce served with rice & fattoush salad and I was a happy camper. Taste wise, it was pretty decent and the texture of everything was great. No extra chewing needed to get the chicken down. I've had much worse in this town, believe me. The food came out in a timely manner. I had no time to HULK out and get hangry, and for this I am always thankful. It was nice to have a healthy-ish option to eat in the immediate area of the plaza. And right after I was able to bounce right over to Trader Joes for their variety of nifty EVERYTHING. I think this is a great place for those feeling peckish and happen to be in this area. Being from Detroit, I'm accustomed to dynamite Mediterranean restaurants being as abundant as churches and liquor stores; on darn near every corner. That is not the case in Ann Arbor. I have Middle Eastern food fairly often and being new in town, naturally I took to Yelp to help me find the best, most happening places. I ran across this place and the reviews seemed to be consistently good, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. The customer service at this place is excellent. Both times I've been here I was greeted warmly and the cashier was super helpful. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. I had a falafel, which was probably my biggest mistake, and my husband had the schwarma. His sandwich was solid while mine left a bit to be desired. Let me preface this by saying I'm a bit of a falafel snob. I've had falafel in Middle Eastern and North African countries and while it's simply street food there, it's delicious so my bar is set pretty high. The falafel at Pita King tasted like a boxed mix, which is one of my biggest peeves. I'm not sure if it actually came from a mix, but it sure tasted like it. I can make boxed falafel at home. I'm just saying. My hubby's sandwich had good flavor and a fair amount of meat (as did mine on my second visit), so I feel a 3 star review is fair. Would I go back? Sure, I'm at Trader Joe's fairly regularly and clearly this is conveniently located. If I am hungry and in the area. I would return. Would I go out of my way to go here? Not at all. read more

The staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is delicious. I recommend their eggplant pitas (eggplant & rice, eggplant & feta, kareemo) and their cauliflower pita, all of which are vegetarian. Great pitas, great salads, great soups! All around a great place to grab lunch, everything was fresh and crisp, and not overpriced.

Just so you know: Initially we were going to order through Yelp, and the bill ran to $70 including delivery, tax, and tip. We decided to pick it up ourselves, and the bill (including a 20% tip) came to $49. We ordered 3 chicken shawarmas, a Greek salad with extra feta, a Baklava box, and a 5 piece Falafel. The Chicken shawarmas were good, but the pickles lacked the zing that we expected - and which we have experienced at other establishments. Furthermore, there was a limited amount of chicken. The sauce, while good, was not up to the standards that we have seen elsewhere. The shawarmas were less messy and that made consuming them easier. The Greek salad was very fresh, very tasty, and enjoyable. The olives were especially good. The falafel were the best I have ever eaten. They were crispy on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside. I can't say enough about how good they were. Finally, the baklava box had 3 small spirals that were pretty underwhelming. There was a larger piece that will have to be sampled at a later date, because we were stuffed. I have to wonder: Is this place named for the NY politician? Peter King??? read more

I come here often and have never been disappointed. The chicken is always juicy and not dried out from sitting. The chicken shawarma is crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The service is always curteous and fast. Lunch times during weekdays can be pretty busy so i always .ake sure I account for the additional wait time. The parking feels like a fight to get a spot during busy times. All in all, this place is worth a visit, great location, friendly service and delicious food.
