Great price at 20$ for a haircut and 22$ for a skin fade. They have plenty of barbers and seating if there is a wait. Tons of parking and it's right next to Petco. They only take cash so make sure you go to the bank before going in. The ATMs at other banks will not let you use your phone to pull out cash. I didn't have my wallet and had to go all the way to chase to get cash. They were very understanding and nice about it. The woman that cut my hair did such a great job. I love the way it looks and she followed my instructions. They know how to use a shaver and scissors here! She took her time and didn't just try to rush through my haircut. She paid much attention to detail. I got the Modern Mullet hair cut and needed all the length I could keep. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this shop. read more

Update: another price increase, with haircuts now $16 (went from $12 to $14 to $16). Nothing unique to this place; inflation is causing the price of every good and service to go up. It's still lower than most other places, but it's getting close to where I can compare Zam"s to the group of $20 barbers out there. What's good for a $14 haircut may not look good enough if it's being compared to a $20 haircut. Same story for years: the male barber by the door, Lee (sp?), is the best of the bunch. The ladies seem less capable, and it's not uncommon to see 3-4 guys waiting for Lee while the one or two female barbers have no customers. It would be a big improvement if they could bring in a second barber who is good enough where people will go to him/her too, rather than just waiting for Lee. I'm sure Lee could use the break. But with the labor shortage and relatively high minimum wage, it may not be feasible if the volume of customers isn't there (but that could be a "chicken or the egg" thing). I'm probably going to start going to a $20 place I've been to once, now that Zam's is $16, and I think the haircuts at the $20 place are a bit tighter, a bit quicker, and the skill level is more consistent across all the barbers (certainly not at the $30 barber level like a Pappy"s, but, alas, I can't afford that every 2 weeks). I still give Zam's 4 stars (it's probably a 3.5), because I grade on a scale with price taken into account (so it's a good $14 place and a decent $16), and they obviously are very hardworking people who work long hours and provide a lower-cost option for the community. read more

Probably the worst haircut I've ever received. I am balding so when I go to the barbers I usually ask for just a clipper shave to the face and head. They charged 20 for it which is a bit more than I would expect but not out of the ballpark. The first thing that went wrong was the barber surprised me with the badger brush, getting me in the eye with it when he was dusting off my face. Second thing was that he dug in my ears with his fingers (yes...) to get out hair in there. Third thing was he leaned my head too far back when shaving my mustache and got a mountain of hair up my nose and in my mouth (I was spitting it out as I was leaving) Fourth thing, he then used a paper towel this time to clean my ears thankfully but then he used that towel to wipe my face with. Just a terrible experience, there's lots of barber shops in the area. Avoid this one at all costs. read more

Went to this place a few times, wasn't very impressed with service but wasn't terrible either and price was decent so I figured I would keep bringing my sons here. The last time I took them my 4 year old son had his hair cut by the older lady all the way at the end. I could tell she was rushing and his ear was cut by the clippers to the point where he was crying about the pain. She kept going and ignored him completely. The lady who sits in the middle took him and fixed his haircut and put neosporin on his cut. When we asked the first lady who cut his hair if she noticed she had cut him she said she didn't it was the second lady who had tried to fix his haircut who cut him. It's difficult to have them do what you want I found myself having to repeat things 6 or 7 times and still worrying they would mess it up. I went with my husband to get his hair cut at Zams this evening. The barber was very nice. We called a couple minutes before their listed closing time and she immediately offered to stay open for us. We arrived and she was ready for us. I didn't catch the woman's name but her customer service was great. I really appreciated how she asked what sort of style he wanted and then kept checking in with us to be sure she was cutting his hair how we liked. She ended up cutting my husbands hair handsomely and for only $10. We will definitely be back!!! read more

Been coming here for almost 2 years, never had a bad cut yet. Use Caitlin, second chair from the entrance she uses a straight razor if you're military and like a skin fade. As far as I know the others will use a straight razor or electric upon request. read more

I honestly just got one of the best haircuts of my life for $10. There were three people cutting hair. It's just an observation but it looked like the owner and his wife and then another older man wearing glasses who speaks very little English. I got my haircut from the man on the far left who spoke minimal English. He honestly treated my head like it was magnum opus. The amount of care and time he spent on my head for $10 was actually mind-blowing. I honestly would have emptied out my whole wallet on him for my tip if I had more cash in there. I only had $20 in my wallet but gosh darn that man took some pride in his job. I def had to use some hand motions to communicate what I wanted and boy did he speak my sign language! I would def recommend for a cheap haircut in Santee. I honestly would have dropped $50 on this cut at a high quality salon. They have a lot of people working there, so there is never a line; I have always just walked right in with my boys and they've taken them right away. First guy as you walk in to the right... legit. Haven't tested the waters with the others, don't want to ruin a good thing. He does good legit fades where you want him to. A low is a low and a medium is a medium not some how ending up as high fade. Been going here for couple of years now. I wish I could give less than one star. I have the type of haircut that I thought you couldn't mess up (I get a buzz cut with a #1 guard), then I came to this place. There is a tow by two inch patch missing on the side where the barber messed up when he was trimming my hairline. He didn't even say squat about it, I caught in the mirror after he was finished. I'm talking about the mirror by the register, since he didn't offer one while I was in the chair. Of course he didn't see anything wrong with it, but believe me, its pretty darn noticeable.
