Her color savvy is fantastic, and she asked great questions and listened carefully to incorporate our preferences and ideas. She left us with paint swatches for all three rooms, and the new colors look incredible. Dawn's color consultation more than exceeded our expectations, but she didn't stop there! She also suggested ways to update the kitchen and dining room lighting to be more functional and coordinated. Her after-visit email summary included links to all of the ideas she had offered, including multiple options for fixtures that were very affordable and perfect for our spaces. We love the new lighting. Months after completion of this project, I am still blissfully happy with the results. We chose this house because it was way under market value, and it had the footprint I wanted. It was built in 1986, and had never been updated since. We needed the entire first floor redone and opened up. We needed gas lines moved, all electrical moved, and plumbing reconfigured. We went down to the studs. Laura made the planning process exciting and easy. Picture sitting down with a great friend and talking about everything you want! She did everything to perfection, BUT I am realizing looking at the photos how many requests I really hit her with: window seat, dog "garage," pantry cabinet, side-mounted sink in the island, moving the utilities, the "BREAKFAST NOOK CONCEPT," the bin drawers, the cookie sheet drawer, the touch faucet, the refrigerated drawers and the dining room to office plan... our wonderful designer listened to all of it and made it real. Then of course she gave me the opportunity to choose all the materials: granite, tiles, flooring, paint, island legs, lighting locations and fixtures, water fixtures, cabinet fixtures, custom cabinet colors (and she even came over and helped me wear and distress it herself, spending hours on the process with me) and she guided me through all of it. She shopped with me, and budgeted with me. (Then I chose all the furniture and treatments, but she was available, had I chosen to hire her for that as well.) So somehow, it's all stuff I could never have done on my own - and yet it's all unquestionably "me." Laura had an innate understanding for MY style, and chose lighting fixtures, materials, hardware and appliances that were exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. Her understanding of what I wanted was total, from structure to finishes. She never lost sight of my goals. Laura worked within my budget (I suspect, at some cost to her). We spent exactly what I communicated my budget to be. She gave me an entirely new first floor for this cost. She budgeted in everything: labor, design, demolition, fees, permits, materials, hardware, and appliances. There were NO surprises along the way. She never collected until I was happy. She found ways to get me what I wanted while still staying in my budget. She NEVER, NEVER tried to "upsell" me on anything whatsoever in order to increase the project scale. She reused materials whenever possible, and guided me when it was not possible. In addition, she handles all of the "red tape." I signed my contract, and she handled everything else. Every step of the process with her was a huge relief. Have you read, "get your designer's estimate, then double it?" That absolutely did not happen here. I also feel that the value for the scope of this kitchen, living room, bathroom and dining room project was absolutely excellent for what we accomplished. We only got this close to the budget because prior to the start of the project, we acquired water damage and had to add the lighting and the living room ceiling to the project. (She still stayed under budget.) Importantly, Laura handled the lion's share of this project for two weeks while we were out of the country. We weren't even here! She and her team (electrician, painter, cabinet maker, demo guys, flooring installation, gas, heating and a/c, tile and backsplash, etc.) worked late into the nights many times (we know because of the Ring app) to get everything done by each of her deadlines, our deadlines, and the inspection deadlines. When we came home, everything "ugly" or loud had been done - and most of the work was complete. How's that for trust? Laura's team of contractors, artisans and employees are the best (I think so because of the results, and from observing them on my return), but make no mistake - this lady is the one in charge. I was home one day while the cabinet maker/countertop installer were having a discussion about how to fit the side-mount sink in the island (a novel placement based on my request) and Laura grabbed a measuring tape and handled the issue immediately. Her knowledge base is of the highest level and she conducted the project with absolute expertise. Her direction was the heart and soul of this project. Don't be fooled by her light and easy manner - she had the scope of this project in hand from the broadest scope to the finest detail. Her blueprints and plans are precise and seasoned by experience. I am so impressed by her. The photos say it all. Silver Leaf didn't give me a gorgeous first floor, they gave me a brand new way to live, work and play. She gave me my "dream space," in a way that is functional and approachable for our everyday lives. I almost feel guilty for being so content in the time of quarantine! I would never use another designer to plan and execute my projects.

I recently had the floors in my house refinished, and gotta say...it was a fantastic experience!…read moreThese are the kind of projects one dreads, with the amount of work involved, moving absolutely everything out, and completely disrupting living conditions for a week...not the adventure you want to do more than once! But Sergenian's crew was absolutely fantastic, every single step of the way! (5-stars isn't enough!) Starting with Russ' consultation, he is the epitome of professionalism, always being sure to not over-promise, or just agree to everything I say to make the sale. And when Kyle and Armando came to do the work, they continued with extremely specific discussions of the technique, timeline, expectations, etc. They worked diligently, with extreme consideration for my home, my dog, and fully discussing all of the steps along the way. Out-standing! And the quality of their work is A+ to boot. In this day and age, it is incredibly difficult to find contractors who are reliable, experts, diligent, considerate, and actually deliver on what they say. You are lucky if you get two of those qualities, but Russ, Kyle and Armando delivered in full in every single category; Outstanding! (Did I mention how nice all of the office staff was as well? They were; and efficient, too!) I have had an *extremely* mixed bag of experiences dealing with contractors here in Madison, from absolutely miserable schiesters I've been tempted to take to court to the very good ones who've been great and gotten the job done. But this group of individuals was so outstandingly great, I wish they'd take up every other trade, and solve all of my remodeling needs! To be clear, I don't work for Sergenians, and I'm not related to anyone there (!) but I think when you come across such an amazing, talented team, who cares deeply, and actually does their job incredibly well (at reasonable cost, no less!), well, that deserves a minute of my time to say thanks, for a job more than well done. Turns out there are still some good people out there, just gotta find them as you wade through the opportunists and such...faith in humanity restored through flooring! ;-} (And almost forgot, but the flooring was *black* which is extremely non-standard! I'd looked and talked with several other companies, always getting a "...yeah I think we can do something like that" vibe; not what you want to hear. But Sergenians was incredibly explicit about what can and cannot be done, and they might say "minimizing expectations," but in reality, the final floor is absolutely glorious, way BEYOND what I'd even hoped for!) Ok, time to stop the ramble, and I'm gonna go enjoy my new floors! (And in the photos I'm posting, it is hard to capture the rich black, because if you go "true" to color, it looks so dark you see no detail...but to see any detail, you have to brighten up, and they don't look like that. Such are the limitations of "standard" photography; HDR photos would be ideal. The takeaway point is that IN-PERSON, the floor looks SPECTACULAR! ...and yes, black floors will show dog hair, dust, etc., but a small price for the best looking floors ever!)

One thing I really appreciated was their array of companies, fabric, colors, information on content and environmental/allergen free choices. I was lucky to have Molly assist me because I was overwhelmed, not being someone who shops for carpet often. Molly found samples closer to what I wanted than I had found. I was stuck and she was patient and helpful, never pushy. I ended up choosing a large and fabulous area rug which Sergenians have several stacks of. Jacob was also very helpful finding runner choices for me.

They were so friendly and helpful through the estimating process. The team arrived on time and were very professional. After they left and the first sunrise we saw the spots missed, the roller marks, the drips, the missed repairs. Yes, we should have more closely inspected, however it was evening and the light made it look good. We were so thankful that we looked past the workmanship. After a few days, and a few morning light, it looked bad and as we looked closer things were missed. I guess blinded by how friendly they were. My wife sent emails and received no response. We gave up. Learned to live with it. Then 1.5 years later they contact us asking for a review. Are you kidding??? All the disappointment and feeling taken advantage of came flooding back. Another email sent. We were kindly disregarded. Watch out from the smiles , friendly disposition. If you contract with them, make the requirements crystal clear, review their work, hold back a percent of payment until you are satisfied.
