November 2021, about 2 weeks before thanksgiving I gave up my online search for the replacement glass shade for my pendant fixtures I installed Jan 2017. Hours of online searches, starting at overstock dot com where I originally purchased these luminaires. Not cheap, not at all, but after having installed costly designer lighting fixtures I shouldn't expect anything less. Finally locating a replacement glass globe and placing the order I wasn't really prepared for howling the actual item might take to arrive. As for the store, this place is amazing. The sheer amount of lighting fixtures in the store is maddening. Over the years I've visited a two showrooms such as this place, but only in Madison Wisconsin. I have marvel at what must be available in cities in NYC or Los Angeles. Just seeing a vast selection at home centers can be daunting. Blinding in fact. But going into this store in Madison it's hard to imagine how so many different light fixtures, floor lamps, chandeliers etc are here, and this is a small version of what I assume has to be in the major world class showrooms! With that stated I can see myself spinning into an overly ridiculous essay writing, when all that's needed is to state the people working the day I needed something, were very polite and helpful. I'm an electrician and I install these things for lots of people. That means I'm a tradesman. Not arriving dressed like a customer, I walked in after a long day on a ladder installing recessed kitchen fixtures for people that arrive at this place dressed like lawyers and whatnot. So I rather looked out of my element. But still I wasn't feeling looked down upon. At least not by the young lady that assisted me. Nicole. That's all I know about her. That and if I return to one day soon find the matching pendants for the adjacent dining room in my home that is awaiting its more lustrous lighting I'm still trying to get time to design and install this spring. read more

I recently visited Madison Lighting looking for a new fixture for above the dining room table as well as new bathroom light fixtures. The selection they have is absolutely amazing. I feel that they do a good job of keeping modern styles and fixtures. We also searched for ceiling fans. I ended up buying the kitchen light fixture and the ceiling fans at Menards secondary to cost savings. We bought bathroom light fixtures at Madison lighting and actually had a hard time deciding which fixtures to buy because they had such a good selection. The product that we chose was on sale however it was not in stock. We were nervous that it would take a while to get the fixtures, as we had a bad multiple month long experience trying to get a kitchen light fixture from Menards. However, Madison lighting did a great job and the date that they estimated our lighting would be in was on point! We had no trouble picking up and installing the fixtures ourselves. On a side note, Madison lighting also carries some home Decor pieces such as throw pillows, art, etc... We're returning for a front entry light next! read more

I needed a part for a lamp fixture that I had purchased in Texas. My cabin is in Iowa. The manufacturer would not deal with the public so I contacted Madison Lighting as they are a distributor for that particular company. Giving these guys even two stars was done out of pity. Frankly disappointed in the lack of customer service here. Ive been shopping around for light fixtures and felt pretty defeated after scouring Home Depot and Menards. A quick search online led me to find Madison Lighting. Despite the frank elevation of pricing in the setting of similar quality product to competitor stores, I thought I'd give it a go. I went in to find a ton of light fixtures. Great, I came to the right place! In the first few minutes I noticed none of the free employees approached me. At first I was pretty happy about it. At 15 minutes I was starting to wonder what was going on - why didnt the four employees behind the desk who didnt seem to be doing anything come and offer help? Instead of asking for help, I expressed a couple nonverbal cues. After 30 minutes of not being offered help, I decided there was absolutely no reason why I should pay this place for their overpriced products. Shop online instead. read more

Madison lighting was excellent customer service. They walked their show room and if things were the wrong size as samples they looked up to see if they were available. I would not get ceiling fans or lighting fixtures that you want to last anywhere else. read more

We bought some pendant lights that they had in stock to try in our kitchen area. The salesperson told us we could bring them back if we didn't like them and there would be no restocking fee since they were in stock. What she didn't mention was that they're NOT returnable I'd you install them. There is a statement to that effect on the back of the receipt, but we didn't look at fine print on the back, and we felt that should have been pointed out to us. What's the point of taking them home then? They were intractable, and weren't willing to come to a comprise. How about a credit so we come back? We won't be shopping here ever again. read more

The other day, my husband and I stopped in to browse lighting fixtures for our new bathroom. When I asked the salesperson if she could assist us in finding an appropriate sconce, she said that we should go online to their website to shop. Well, we did go online to shop. But not at Madison Lighting! Why bother having a brick and mortar store when all they do is tell you to shop online. Very poor customer service. No one else was in the store. read more

Looking to replace the chandelier over our dining room table - there were many selections. We liked one in particular but some of the lamps were a bit crooked. We asked about it and the man who helped us dove right in to make them straight, getting tools and making it right. We bought the fixture but when installing found it needed to be a foot longer with longer rods from the ceiling. We went back to the store and another person spent a half hour with us pulling spare parts from the back to make the light work for us. I have purchased lighting through this business twice. I should have learned after the 1st time. Their return policies are horrible! We bought a 3 globe chandelier (on sale for $999) which was ridiculous in the first place. Once we got it home, we did not like it and were told we could not return it because it was on sale. We recently found a bathroom light fixture on their website; however, it was not available in the store. I asked the colors, was told it was ivory and agreed to have them place the order. We waited 2.5 weeks and went to pick it up. The mosaic glass is not ivory, but blue and pink. If we return it, we will be charged 25% of the value (approx $75) This is absolutely ridiculous! I was very cautious because of my first experience with this company. If they can not stand behind their products, they should not be selling them! I should have followed my initial instinct and stayed clear of them; however, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I know better. In addition, they are very over priced! This will be the LAST time I do business with this company! read more

This place is a joke. I don't know who is so dumb that they pay these prices. Even with a builder discount, you can do much better elsewhere. Their in store selections are pretty much limited to brown and bronze. Stay at home. Use the web. Buy online at a lower price. The truth about this place lies somewhere in between the 1-star and 5-star reviews already provided. In Yelp speak, 2 stars equals "Meh. I've experienced better." I'd say that about sums it up. The selection here is phenomenal--the next best is at Menard's and they really don't come anywhere close to the variety and volume that Madison Lighting has. Having shopped here three times, I've found these two things (echoed by others on this site) are definitely true: 1) Don't expect to be greeted as if you were a customer. You'll have to interrupt someone's game of solitaire (ostensibly) if you would like to speak to an employee. 2) Prices here are much higher than online or at a hardware store. If you want something truly unique, you'll find it here but be prepared to shell out a full paycheck for it. read more

When we were building our house the staff was great. They were really informative and able to give us advice. It was very affordable and great customer service. One of the fans had a crack in the light when it was delivered. They were very helpful and quick to resolve the issue. I would definitely go with them again. read more

The service here is terrible. The place is never super busy but I always wait forever before I can get someone to notice that I'm there and need help. They even have "take-a-number" system like you're at the meat counter. Buy the same stuff for less money online, and avoid the rude service. read more

The Customer Service is here unparalleled. One of our outdoor lights was accidentally broken and required a significant amount of research to find the part. They just so happened to have a spare part in the back and just gave it to us. I' i process of doing the whole house remodel - 3 bedrooms/3 bath. My electrician suggested I go there to pick up all lights. He did mention that I need to set an appointment but I was on west side and decided to stop by to quickly look at bathroom fans/lights. There were only one other car on parking lot when I arrived. I walked in and found my way to kitchen/bathroom lights area. Spent there 10 min. No one came up to offer help. I wondered by their help desk(back of the store,not front), where I saw 3 people. One on a phone, one on a computer and one with a customer. No one even looked at me. No hello, no eye contact, like I was a ghost. I went back to the same department. Played for another 30 min. Turned all of their fans, all kitchen under/above cabinets lights. Found a stick that turns on recessed lights... One associate was walking around me with her customer and once again pretended I wasn't there. I was in the middle of isle and blocking her way so she pushed me with her body rather then say do you think we can go thru. It was hilarious. I left thinking I'm a ghost. Also took a picture of parking lot. Besides my car there were only one other. :) Since biz is so great for them then I'll go elsewhere even if it means homedepot read more

We have used Madison Lighting twice in the past for when we were picking out light fixtures for the house we were building. Today we stopped in and couldn't get anyone to help us. One person said "hello" and then that was the end of it. We stood around for 15 minutes but no help. We came home and my wife ordered the fixtures off of Amazon. We purchased new exterior light fixtures from Madison lighting as our originals needed to be replaced. It was important to make sure they fit exactly where the old ones had been. I received help making sure I got what I needed for choices and we had three good choices selected in a short time. Once our family voted on our favorite, I ordered it. One screw on one of the screw on one of the four fixtures was not right. They sent out Roberto and another kind gentleman (sorry, but his name escapes me right now) to make it right. Great experience at Madison Lighting. This is NOT Home Depot or Menards. They have beautiful things and I've been a customer for several years. I'm looking at a new fixture for my dining room, something fresh and on-trend and the same person is waiting on me. A couple of years ago I replaced all of our exterior lighting and it looks as nice now as the day we installed it. That's saying something with the winter we had last year! Quality, everyday low prices that you can't beat on internet searches, REALLY nice sales people. They spent a lot of time with me, and sometimes I've had to wait. I see the bad reviews and I feel a need to respond with my experiences over the more than ten years of asking Madison Lighting for help. I am a home owner not an electrician or contractor. The complaints of not getting help right away might seem appropriate at first glance but what I know is that they are very thorough and when they are helping you, you will have their full attention. They will help you pick your fixtures with experience to fit your needs. They stand behind what they sell as well! For instance, we recently bought a ceiling fan. I installed it myself when another old fan failed. After two months it was making more noise than we were used to so we called them. They sent an electrician over, he worked with it to make it quieter but it was still not what he felt was good enough so he replaced the fan. Go to Madison Lighting for their expertise and attention to detail! Wait for them to give you the same attention they are giving the customers ahead of you....it is well worth the wait in the long run! read more
