Tariff pricing has hit so the prices are more expensive Vs. some of the other bike stores we have been to!! The best customer service in the business! Every experience I have at Zane's is so positive. Today I came in with an issue with my bike rack on the back of my very dirty car. Chuck was immediately helpful and and figured out the issue in no time - even wiped down everything and loaded up the trunk for me. He was great and the friendly help was so appreciated. I could of bought this bike in Virginia where I live, However I choose to go with Zanes because of their known track record for exceptional service. I ordered the bike on Thursday and it was ready the next day. I had a small issue with the gears not changing to the lower gear and Tom met me at the shop on a Saturday and fixed it in a matter of seconds. I went and found a guy behind the counter seemingly not doing much at all, and asked for help. He told me he's really busy working on a repair, someone will be with me as soon as possible, but it may be a while. So I left. And will never come back. Look, I love to shop local and small, but, Zane, bubbele, when you've got a live customer in the store, but the fucking wrench down and sell the guy a bike. My boyfriend purchased a bike from Raleigh to get shipped and put together here at Zane's, shipped in a week, but they took over a month to put the bike together. I ordered my own from a smaller bike shop in Berlin and they had it ready the next day. They never contacted him about it either! Raleigh said that it had been at Zane's for weeks, yet they didn't have any idea what was going on in their own shop! We FINALLY picked it up today (it's a great bike) but were treated with subpar service. They tried dumping us with the bike without explaining key parts, like shifting or adjusting the seat for us. We also witnessed one employee inform a customer that they couldn't fix her flat tire until well into July. They really need to get it together. Update: come to find out they gave him the wrong size bike! First it sits in the box in their shop for over a MONTH, then they can't even be sure to give him the right one! read more

In my younger days I was very into road biking but with college I fell out of the swing and stopped altogether. After school I took up mountain biking for several years. Now I am looking to get back into road bikes and stopped into this shop on my way home. Around our area they are said to be reputible. Upon walking in one younger man riding a bike in the store asked if I needed help...saying yes he directed me to an even younger "salesperson." I explained that I am looking to get back into biking for fitness and was looking to see what they had to offer. He very briefly showed me the intro bikes and then led me over to the mid to high end bikes. Acting dumb I asked about bike sizing and which size was right for me. He dismissed my question saying that it doesnt matter its just what feels good for you. Knowing this was totally incorrect I walked. Im not saying that its a bad place but just that I found it odd that the owners would let people with such poor skills try to sell bikes that begin at $850.00. read more

This is definitely not my kind of bike shop. More interested in selling expensive new bikes than keeping old ones up and running. Your average employee doesn't know where the bike parts he's selling (or, not selling, as the case may be) were manufactured. All in all, I'll probably try to avoid this place, if possible. A large store with some impressive bikes on display, Zane's also has a good selection of more reasonable ones too. Since the store is large they also have room for a lot of accessories and parts. My wife and I bought two bikes here and received excellent service and a good price. I have bought bikes here for repair or parts many times and they always gave me prompt service or detailed advice. Once I smashed the seat post of an old mountain bike that I had and could not get the post out since in was so mangled. Well, they managed to get the post out and replaced it with an old one they had hanging around. Didn't even change me for the part. I can't ask for better service than that. read more

i believe that some of the reviews are being a bit harsh. They are a high-end bike store and their prices reflect this accordingly. I did however have a $10 charge for repair of a broken cable , which I think is modest for a small fix and they did good job at it. All in all Zane's is a great place to browse and wish for one of their cycles... And for a small repair I found them trustworthy. I can see here that there are many split opinions, but my experience was good. read more

Really good shop. I bought a couple of mountain bikes. Every year, they have a special sale in April. Trek bikes are then discounted. It is worth it. With a new bike comes Zane's service which I found really serious and competent. Yearly tuneup is free. The shop also carries all possible accessories. Not cheap though. read more

My company gave me a Zane Cycles trek 820 bike for 30 year service. The Bike was ordered 7-15-08, received 8-29-08. On their thank you letter they said "Your Trek bicycle has been fully assemble and test ridden to ensure the quality of you new bike." I open the box, the find that the pedals and front wheel hardware was missing. I called customer service and explane the problem. A week later I received the missing parts. I recently purchased a mountain bike from Zane's. The process of me picking out a bike and paying for it was done over multiple visits to the store. Each time I was helped in a very professional manner. The staff (3 different people) answered my many questions and worked with me to find the best bike I could afford and one that fits my 6'2" frame. I also loved the no interest lay-away plan that allowed me to pay the bike off over a few months. After purchasing my bike I took it back in for an adjustment and it was done in no time. I have been wanting to buy a bike for a while now as a way of getting around town and for use this fall as a college student. I don't know much about bikes, but in my search I ended up at Zane's, and my experience was wonderful. I was helped immediately by a man who was very knowledgable in regards to the bikes he was showing me and I felt strongly that I could trust his recommendations. Of course, I did feel a bit pressured to make a purchase and ultimately I did, but I am very happy with the bike I bought and am confident it will serve me well for years to come. The bikes are not cheap but they are very high quality and will certainly last longer than a less expensive model from Walmart (and you won't have to service it nearly as often). Despite being on the more expensive side they have a great policy of matching any lower price you can find in the state of CT and paying you the difference plus 10% of the difference. Overall a great experience with knowledgable and friendly staff. I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality bicycle. read more

OMG!!! Watching T.V and just saw the owner talking about getting a loan to keep his employees working during the pandemic. What a joke , my wife and myself went there three weeks ago.we called the number and were told to look online for the bicycle, the sales person didn't want to come out. Finally he came out and told us that the bike we wanted wasn't available, he showed us two different bikes but was aggravated, finally another salesman came out and told him he had a phone call, that was the end of the bike sale, we had enough cash to to purchase two bikes and made that clear but he was more concerned about his phone call, went to another bike shop on Southbury and the owner couldn't do enough, we purchased the bike that Zanes said was unavailable we wouldn't recommend Zanes read more

Still the place that I take my bike when it's all bent out of shape and busted from rocks and stumps and not being consistent. I purchased a mid-fat Specialized at Zane's last year and couldn't be happier. My old x-country bike was feeling old and the new bike really rides plush. I opted for the extra Zane's Plus care option ($250 on top of the new bike), and let me tell you ~ that was money and time well spent. Not only do they work on the bike for me, they replace worn out parts, for 2 whole years. Go for it! I will give this place 2 stars because they do have a great selection of different bikes; whether you're a casual rider or looking for an electric bike- you'll probably find what your looking for. The reason for the low score is because of the absolute lack of customer service I received. I went in yesterday with my son looking for a new bike for him, I know it's a pricier place but they've been to several electric fairs at my job and I was eager to give this place my business. Sadly I walked around the store for about 15 minutes and not one person approached me to help- look I get it- bicycles at this place are anywhere from $200 to over $2,000, I'm sure there's a lot of people that come in and get sticker shock and leave but I did my research and I was prepared to spend my hard earned cash. I had several employees look right at me, as I scanned the store with a confused look on my face because I don't know anything about bicycles, and still no one approached me. Maybe it's because I'm young and didn't pull into the parking lot in a bmw suv, maybe my casual outfit didn't scream "I'm here to buy something". Regardless it was a very disappointing experience and I took my business to Action Sports down the road. read more

I tried to patronize this local bike shop and give them my business, but just can not drag myself back into Zanes shop again. Somehow I am repulsed by the employee attitude and level of service. Someone needs to tell these guys they are only a mediocre bike shop and not a high end fashion boutique. Time to back off on the pretension. Bikes are supposed to be fun, right? I just got back from Zane's and felt compelled to write a review because the customer service I have experienced so far has been the exact opposite of what I'm reading here on Yelp. In March of this year I decided that it was time for a new bike. I didn't know anything about Zane's other than that in May they have a huge bike sale (how can you not know about this sale, they have billboards EVERYWHERE) so I figured I could start my search there. I was in the Branford area on a Thursday and stopped in a half hour before they closed - I wasn't expecting anyone to help me, just wanted to browse. The store was full of customers and every employee appeared to be fully engaged with who they were helping. One of the mechanics / bike techs (?) must've noticed that I looked overwhelmed so he came out from working on a bike to see if I needed help. I explained that I was in the market for a new road bike and he started asking questions as to what my riding style is and how often I'd be using it, if I would be racing it, etc, etc. He kept looking to turn us over to a salesman for more help because he didn't want to explain things from a mechanics point of view but they were all busy finishing their current customers so he continued to give advice which I appreciated even though the information was completely over my head. After about 45 minutes, he apologized profusely for not being able to get a salesman to help me but told me to come back the next day and speak to Greg, which we did. Now, I know Greg gets a bad rap here on Yelp but that man PATIENTLY spent over THREE HOURS with us answering questions, picking out bikes for me to test drive based on my needs and sized each one so that I would get a completely accurate feel for the bike. I ended up purchasing a bike and some of the necessities that I needed and even though it was not April, Greg got in contact with a rep from the company that manufactured my bike to see what the lowest possible price was that it could be sold for which I greatly appreciated. After the transaction took place, Greg hooked the bike up to a trainer and spent an additional 1/2 hour to an hour with me reviewing and tweaking my positioning on the bike and showed me the most effective way to shift. I could not have asked for a better experience. I have seen Greg in there since my purchase and he really doesn't say hi much but I think that's just in his nature, he's pretty hardcore when it comes to bikes and I did not take it personally. On a side note: I did wait a week for the sale before I upgraded to clip-in pedals and cleats which I received at a hefty discount - thank you bike month! I went in there today to get a new tube which they replaced at no cost to me because of their warranty program. When I wheeled my bike in, I explained to the mechanic that I have an event coming up and asked him to look over everything and give me some feedback on how I was caring for and using the bike since it was SO MUCH MORE of a bike than I've ever had before. He spent at least 20 minutes going over every part of it after replacing the tube and gave me great advice about the best ways to care for it after long rides. I wish I got his name because he was truly very helpful and friendly. While waiting for my bike, just about every person in there asked if I needed help with parts, advice and even chatted about organized rides that they host. By the reviews, it appears I sold my soul to the bike devil but from my personal experience, they have a customer for life. read more

Had a good experience buying a specilaized sirrus elite bike from them.Met a gentleman called Tom over there.Instantly lowered their asking price by $90 to match competitor pricing once I gave him the name of an other authorized specialized dealer based in woodbridge, CT ..No questions asked.Got an instant "yes".Did not even verify and that showed the shop's trust in it's prospective customers. Bike was not readily ready assembled and he immediately got in touch with the warehouse and promised me that he would try to give the bike by evening.Followed up with a call within 1-2 hours confirming that the bike would indeed be ready by 5.30pm.Very professional...Hope I have as good an experience for after-sales service. Updated ***04/12/2012**** I have to reduce the ratings from 5 to 3 stars as I got an opportunity to test their lifetime free service warranty. But when it is time to get the cycle serviced,they take your cycle and tell you it takes them 15 days to get it serviced.Normally I would assume a service would take like 30-45 mins but they hold your cycle for 15 days. Not that I gave them the cycle during a peak summer season but in april 1st week where it is still cold.Probably an indirect way to discourage people from using their "lifetime service " guarantee??? Defnitely it shaves of the ranking from 5 to 3. 12/28/2015 +++++++++ I rate them back to 5 stars as they get back to you sooner than the due date if the bike is ready.Also tested their flat tire insurance policy and that works very well. The only problem was the fairfield store did not have details about the tire insurance bought at Branford and though they fixed it they thought I was bringing the wheel of an unrelated cycle.I then made them call the Branford store and confirm it before I left. read more

I am not a cyclist. I don't own a bike. I don't do tri's. I do love spin classes at my gym, and I was advised by one of my instructors that having cycling shoes would be beneficial for someone like me who spins about 3x per week. I never thought it would be so difficult to find cycling shoes in CT. I'm used to going to big chains porting goods stores which of course do not carry shoes that I need. I found out the hard way- thinking that what they had online is the same stock they had in the store. Boy was I wrong! After doing research I finally ended up at Zane's. It was a little intimidating for me who is a non road cyclist..but if you are they had so many different bikes displayed and a tune up section in the store with a waiting area. The friendly salesperson noticed that I was eyeing some of the cycling shoes and it could have been my puzzled look that made her ask if I needed help. Once I told her what I needed she brought out several pairs of shoes for me to try on. Man, I am so glad that I tried them on in person because the ones that I thought I might like (aesthetic reasons) did not work out at all. After picking out the most comfortable shoe out of the bunch she then put on the SPD cleats that I needed. I am a big fan of customer service and this place definitely gets a ten! read more

Not only did they get back to me within 12 hours, they actually fulfilled my request. Ordered a bike that I thought was directly from Trek, with a delivery date for 2-3 weeks. Turns out it was from these guys, after waiting over 3 weeks I got a call from someone at Zanes asking what size bike I wanted and what inseam I have. After yet another week my bike finally showed up. Then I assembled my bike just as instructed and attempted to ride it. The bike would shift into 3 of the gears on the rear deraileur. After calling Zane's and asking them where and what I should do they said that don't cover the cost to tune a bike that is purchased from them. If I could give less than one star I would, they took over a month to ship me a box with a bike in it that was premanufactured at an obscene shipping cost. I could have walked from NY to Conn. and rode home before the bike order was even processed. read more
