attention premium denim lovers! short legged people! well, i am both. i love how my sevens, citizens and R&R fit but it is a must to get them all hemmed, regardless of height. zarif will take the exact same thread out and put in the exact same cuff-model that was on the original pair of pants you brought in. they NEVER look like they have been hemmed. she'll even put a few finishing touches on the end so they look perfect. she has great service. one day i bought a dress and i needed it taken up by that night. took it in and she said no problem. shes great. i dont trust ANYONE with my jeans. i make the drive from george mason every time i get a new pair of jeans. read more

I was astonished to see the number of glowing reviews for this place. My experience was not in line with some of the others below. This place does not have the customer service level expected of a tailor. You are better off going to your local dry cleaners, where at least you know what you are getting, albeit at a much lower price. I paid $28/shirt for the tailoring of three dress shirts. All that got me was an 8 second measurement of each shirt. I am all about getting in and out of places while doing errands, but I've never been so rushed where there were NO OTHER CUSTOMERS. ---THREE WEEKS LATER--- All they were able to do to the shirts was take the body in a few inches, not unlike a dry cleaners alterations place. The shirts still billow badly at the waist and the sleeve width is just as ridiculous looking. I may attempt to resolve this, but I doubt it's worth the hassle/wait. Maybe someone can shed light on how to receive better service than this, but I just didn't see it during my visits. read more

At the end of March.... March 28 or 29th I brought in three skirts to be altered. Just hemmed..... the owner said they would be ready by April 25th because she was going out of town. I asked her if there was any way she could have one ready for April 7th because I was planning on wearing one of them (bought for a specific) for an occasion. She agreed that she would do the one before she left out of town. I asked her if the shop was going to be open when she was gone - which she responded yes...... and asked her why the other people couldn't hem my other two skirts. She said they were busy with "prom dresses". I accepted it and moved on. Picked up my one skirt on April 7th - it was perfect. I returned on April 28th to pick up my other two skirts and drop off another two skirts and one pair of shoes. The owner said that my first two skirts weren't ready - because of the overload of "prom" dresses. I sat there wondering - ok - isn't EVERY customer as important as the rest. But I figured, ok don't over-react, give her a chance. She promised me that all four skirts would be ready by Wednesday. I decided not to come Wednesday but come on Thursday - and surprisingly found out that they were not ready. Again - she cried "prom". I was a bit upset because it is a 20 minute drive to Lansdowne and 20 minutes back to Brambleton. This was trip #2 to pick up my original skirts. She told me they would absolutely be ready that day (Thursday). In fact, she told me that she is working late and I can come back after hours. I came first thing on Friday morning ------ again ----- you can imagine what happened. PROM! The four skirts weren't ready. She said "I didn't know you would come by so early". I was sitting there saying - you told me to pick them up on Thursday night - it is Friday. Today, Saturday, I did go back and YES, all four skirts were ready; however, the shoes weren't. I THOUGHT they would all be ready at once - but maybe I misunderstood. I need to be honest and say they were done VERY WELL. And I need to say she gave me one skirt at no charge. BUT the bill was $144 for four skirts to be hemmed. I just thought it was a bit expensive - especially for all the delays. It took me five weeks to get the original two skirts done.... and one week for the other two skirts (which would be what I expected). My issue was the "attitude" of the owner. If she is overwhelmed she should either hire more people OR not take as many "prom" gowns. She was always a bit short and acted as if I was doing HER the favor by "employing" her. I will say I will give her ONE MORE CHANCE - but if I run into this attitude or delays again - I will have to find another tailor. read more

They can handle anything -- hemming your jeans in a way that keeps the manufacturer's look so you can't tell they've been hemmed, cutting down a suit jacket that had too-wide shoulders, custom fitting blouses, dresses, jackets and pants. I had been to Zarif Custom Tailors before with friends, either to pick up or drop off their items. I never had a comfortable feeling, which is why I never became a customer. I wish I had stuck with my intuition. At least I am glad that I started with something small. I bought a jumpsuit that I planned to wear to a friend's wedding, but was too long and went to Zarif for the alterations. Everything went fine until I went back to pick It up 2.5 weeks later. My jumpsuit was still hanging in the exact same spot from when I had dropped it off. I never got an apology or anything that resembled such. As a matter of fact, when I was inquiring as to what happened, in a very sharp and rude tone she said "it didn't get done and you can just come back tomorrow." I told her that I could not come back tomorrow and that I needed my suit that day. I didn't have time to take it elsewhere. I did go back later that day to pick it up. My concerns of the quality of the job was confirmed when the hem came out during the wedding. Someone came up to me and told me that "I had a string trailing behind me." I would think for a custom tailor that a hem would be a simple task, boy was I wrong. I will never return to this establishment again nor do I recommend them. read more

I found this tailor about a year ago. I needed a 24hour turn around on a suit to be altered. The women I spoke with was very sweet and helpful. She got the work done on time, without issue. Another need for alteration to a garment recently came up so I thought of Zarif and the service I received on my prior visit to them. Granted I live 40 mins away, but the service WAS great the last time. This recent trip to Zarif wasn't the same... When I dropped of my suit for alterations, the same women that had helped me originally helped me again. However, she was not at all pleasant to me even though she was exceeding pleasant to another customer in the store. I set up for my suit to be picked up several days later(5days). When I arrived this morning, I was told me suit was not done and if I could wait an 1.5 hours for them to alter it.... Needless to say I was frustrated. Conclusion I only drove 40 mins to this tailor because of the friendly and warm service I received on my first visit a year earlier. This is not the experience that I recently had, as well as me wasting more time to have to wait for them to complete a job that was already schedule to be done. read more

This place is a real find for someone shorter like me who needs nearly all her pants altered to the correct length. Jeans are one of the most difficult things to properly hem and even a perfectionist like me cannot tell that my jeans have been altered. It does cost a few dollars more to have them match the thread, but it's well worth it! We moved into lansdowne a little while back and I took some shoes to Zarif, she made them look brand new. after having issues with another tailor we took all the boys suits for our upcoming wedding and they did a fantastic job!!!! The suits are perfectly tailored to each boy. I took my wedding dress here with almost 2 weeks till my wedding and it needed to be let out and altered because the last place I went did not understand what I wanted. I absolutely love this place! I am 5'3 and many times when I buy cute pants they are wayyy too long, even with heels on. Because of this so many clothes end up hanging in my closet for 2/3 years because I don't know what to do with them. I found Zarif's on Google and to my surprise they were down the street from my house so I decided to give them a try, and now I am obsessed with them! They are complete live savers! I took 3 pairs of pants in 2 weeks before I was to go on vacation and they were able to get them done! One of the items I took in were a pair of pants that were way too small and the owner was able to extend the waist of the trousers using the belt that it came with. I was so amazed by the quality of the items when I got them back, you cannot even tell alterations have been made. The owner is also a sweetheart. I have been working with Zarif for more than 10 years and can't say enough about the quality of her services. For 6 years Zarif altered almost every garment in my closet. We moved away and I tried at least 5 other tailors in my town before deciding it was worth the 1.5 hour drive to have Zarif do the work instead. I've used Zarif for minor adjustments, major alterations and even had several custom pieced made by her. To a T everything I've ever give her has turned out spectacularly. Absolutely horrible. I wanted some simple embroidery done which they said would be available in about 1 week and change. 2 weeks and change later it still wasn't done and I couldn't even get the garment back because they sent it somewhere else to get done. When I first came in to get the item the assistant in the shop couldn't even tell me where it was. As far as she knew it was lost. Would certainly recommend against ever using this place. read more

I can NEVER find jeans with a waist small enough to mine, but she brings the waist in and makes them looks like custom jeans. My first tailoring experience was definitely a very good one, thanks to Zarif. Prom was coming up in a few days and I wanted my suit slimmed down: sleeves to be slimmed down, waist to contour body, trousers to be straight through the leg, 1/2" of shirt cuff to show, vests to be close to body. She took it in without a problem and she and her crew altered it by the next day, complete with pressing services. The end result: a completely new suit that not only looked great but was also quite comfortable. And all that for about $130. read more

I dropped my wedding dress off 3 and 1/2 weeks ago and the two Turkish ladies were nice and pinned my dress and told me I could pick up my dress on April 20th- exactly 1 week before my wedding. I was already a little nervous about the proximity of the pick-up date to the wedding date; but due to the other great reviews, I figured- hey- it's my wedding dress! Better to have it done right and take a little longer. So, I go into the shop today excited to get my dress, and the lady says it isn't ready! She says she's busy with all of the prom dresses. Prom? Prom?! This is my WEDDING dress lady and you told me it would be ready today-ahem- 3 and 1/2 weeks ago! She attempted to appease me by saying she could rush it and have it done by Monday evening. No thanks... If you couldn't do it in 3.5 weeks, I doubt you can handle doing it in 2 days. That's a zero rating. read more

I am so disappointed! Please go somewhere else! We had a bad experience with our friend's wedding and they did not do well on my wedding dress. I just got my pictures back to prove what they did and will upload this week. I was charged $350 for hemming and taking in on the sides by 1/2 inch. I teared up at the cost, as they had delayed me 3 times, being ready the evening before I left for my wedding (!!!!) and not being in a position to do anything at this point. They told me, "I need to make a living too" and dropped the price to $300. Just wait til you see what my dress looked like, ridiculous. I would drive an hour one way to her if need be. Her work is so detailed and fine. I have had a lot of items altered and never found even the tiniest flaw. On occasion I have needed an item "now" ...
