I'm assuming the owner is who I chatted with. She can be very friendly or very short and sweet. There were a few times I would ask her a question and you can tell she is swamped and very busy. She was very short then. Other times, she would laugh with me. Her work is great. She is able to even look at clothes and do adjustments without measuring or just has a good sense of memory. She was able to fix clothes for us in less than a week. But you are paying for the quality of work. I normally go to tailors and pay at least half of what she charged. Unfortunately I was in a bind and dropped clothes off here. No I do not have any regrets, but still shocked at what I paid for them. If you want quality and quick and money isn't a big deal or you don't want to search around, definitely go to her. She's great otherwise! read more

Zarif definitely has an eye for tailoring garments to custom fit the individual. I'm petite to say the least and had to get a $500 BCBG gown tailored for a wedding. The gown was not an easy material to alter and I had already walked out on 2 tailors because I didn't feel comfortable leaving such an expensive dress with an unskilled tailor. It was the first time I'd been here and I was a little nervous. As soon as I walked in Zarif asked me to try on the dress with my shoes. She knew exactly what to do to make it my size. OK - I bought tickets to an event for December 9, black tie optional. My lovely better half really really wanted to dress for an elegant evening at the French Embassy. I remembered seeing Tuxedo on the sign - so I called at 1100AM on the day I needed the Tux. The kind lady listened and asked for my size and if she could call me back . 15 minutes later she called and told me to come by to make sure it fits. I had plenty of time so I dropped it off the week of thanksgiving and picked it up on the December 11th. The quality of the work was great and cost under $100. One of the worst feelings ever is taking an item to an alterations place and praying to god that it comes out the way you want it to when they're done. I've had so many things go completely wrong and it terrifies me when I need alterations. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be hemmed because it is so long and I read reviews on Yelp and decided to take it here. I thought it would be super expensive to do because it has layers of fabric that are all different lengths. I took it to them, they looked at it and said $48. What a great deal! It would have cost more to do it at David Bridal where I BOUGHT the dress. So they had me put the dress on with my shoes and then they took the dress and told me it would be ready in a few weeks. Sure enough, it was! I got home and tried th dress on and the length was PERFECT! They did such an amazing job, you couldn't even tell it was worked on. I was so impressed. I will definitely be taking all of my things here to be altered now on...such a great place. It's run by a Turkish family that is so sweet! read more

At noon on a Tuesday I brought a Nicole Miller gown in with multiple layers of fabric to be fitted for a wedding I was leaving for at noon the NEXT DAY. I apologized profusely for the emergency and suggested Zarif do whatever she had time for just to make the strapless gown stay up around my bust. She didn't hesitate to tell me not to worry and all she cared about was making me happy. At noon the next day I ended up with a gown that looked like it had been hand-made for me. She added a built-in bra, took the empire waist in, and hemmed the flowing layers to perfectly hit the floor. Her sewing job is undetectable. She is clearly passionate about her work. The situation is a little different than you would expect. I don't always get a card/receipt when I drop off, nor do I get a price quote then either. I simply show up after the allotted time and tell her what it is that I gave her. The system seems to work for her, so it's fine. I used Zarif for my wedding gown alterations and really wish I'd taken my business elsewhere. What should have been my first red flag was that when I initially went in, no one took any of my measurements. She just eyeballed me in the gown and said she'd let it out an inch in the bodice. I was told it would be ready in 3 weeks and would cost $30. Three weeks later I show up to pick up my gown and the seamstress tells me she "hasn't touched it" and I should come back the next day. Okay, if it's an alteration you can do in less than a day, you should have done it in the three weeks I already gave you. So after the delay I go to pick it up and the price has doubled. Great, I'm not thrilled, but it's my wedding gown and I really want it back, so I pay up and take it home. When I try it on again, it's now too loose in the bust. Wonderful! That's what I get for trusting a place that didn't even measure me to do alterations on such an important garment. I definitely didn't want to take it back to them and it was too late for me to find another tailor so I just had to deal with it. All in all, this was one of the only snags in what was otherwise a fairly painless wedding planning process. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Took some shoes in 3 weeks ago. Was told $45 to re-sole and to come back 1 week after dropping them off. I came back a week later and was told it would be a few more days. I don't normally travel to the shopping center where the store is located so it took me another week to return to pick up the shoes. When I went to pay, I was told $50 for shoe repair, a 10% increase from original estimate. I didn't haggle because the shoes looked great. To make this a 5 star review, the store would have had to better document original quote and deliver on time. Aside from these two items, the work really turned out nice. read more

TOOOOO EXPENSIVE!! I got 2 pairs of docker slacks altered and it came out to $60. That's just nuts. Granted they do great work, but I've had great work done for much less. I have never posted a review but I have never had an experience like this before. I dropped three coats off on August 10th to be tailored- two had very minor fixes and one had to be taken in at the waist and shoulders. Upon dropping off she said come back September 24th. I thought I was insane to leave them but I heard such good things on FB and yelp I made the decision to give it a try. I came back September 26th and she said nothing had been started and to come back Wednesday the 28th. I came back on the 28th and she was huffy and said I needed to come back Saturday. I said I desperately needed a jacket for Friday morning. She said she would get one jacket done on Thursday and call for me to pick up which never happened. I showed up on Monday, October 2nd and she said only one was completed and to come back later. On Wednesday I was handed my other two jackets- the one doesn't even seem like the full job was done and they didn't even have me try on the coats to see if it fit??? And to top it all off this cost me $260.00. No discount or apology for actually having the work done two weeks late, almost two months after dropping off the jackets. They are clearly overwhelmed and I just felt like they didn't give a shit about trying to serve me as a customer despite, in my opinion, me being almost comically understanding and forgiving. read more

I won't leave a bad review for the delay because she was legitimately slammed with Prom Dress alterations the week I came in. If you come in to the shop on a busy week you need to set expectations for how long it will take and the risks of mixups. I'm confident she won't do a poor job even on a busy schedule because this is her craft and I see the proof in the suits she worked for me at the last minute before my flights. I can't say there was a problem with the alterations themselves but the service is not timely. I also needed a suit done around homecoming time. I was told straight up my suit would take a month to do as the owner was busy with homecoming. I was ok with this as I needed the suit about 5 weeks later. I turned up 3 days after the "as promised" date--no suit. I had to fly out the next day so made other arrangements. When I stopped in that day, they couldn't find the suit at first and then showed me the unfinished jacket. They were apologetic and took my number and name. I told them not to rush the alterations and call me when they were ready. I never received a call but came in 5 days later and it was ready. I had another suit to be altered and wanted to use this tailor but I needed this suit in two weeks and wasn't filled with confidence it would be ready on time. Again, no problem with the workmanship but I would not use them if you were on a schedule. read more

The quality of their hemming is among the best I've used for dress pants and I'd trust her with anything I had to have altered. This is all to say nothing of the boss' fantastic sense of humor and friendly banter. I've taken several fine suits to Zarif to be altered. Their work is what you might expect of a trusted tailor that charges a premium price. Yes, the customer interactions are a bit gruff at times and the time to pick up can be a bit more than you might expect. If you item is of an urgent nature, I would suggest calling a few days ahead of when you are expecting to pick it up and ask if you can "pick it up early", thereby avoiding the issue that some reviewers have had with an expected item not being ready on the promised date.
