I came here for a last minute hem for my bridesmaid dress at the suggestion of my step-dad, who gets tailoring work done often. My step-dad rarely gives out praise, but when he does, you know it's gonna be good. So when he said that he found the best tailor in town, I knew he was on to something. And he was right! My experience here was excellent. Pervin was so accommodating and kind, despite my frantic and stressed out demeanor. She also suggested that I get the waist of my dress tighter, which was a great suggestion and made my dress look much better on me. Absolutely wonderful family owned business. I had such a pleasant experience getting my wedding dress altered. It needed a ton of adjustments and my weight changed during the time. They were able to make every accommodation I needed, allowed me to stop by to try it on and measure whenever I needed, and always treated me with so much love and kindness. The mom who sews is very talented. The daughter is kind and a great communicator. They transformed my dress in ways that made it comfortable because parts of it were itchy or digging into my skin. This tailor was recommended to me by someone who knows the owner and tailor personally. I needed a couple pair of dress pants shortened for a cruise I was going on. I unfortunately did not try the pants on before I left for the cruise. One pair only one leg was shortened and the other pair wasn't shortened at all! We gave them two weeks to do it and picked up later than expected date so they had more than enough time. So if you go there even for something simple try it again n before you leave so you won't have to return to get it fixed. We did not go back, went somewhere else. I wanted her to make something bigger which several other places said was not going to be possible but she made it happen. Then I lost weight and she had to make the dress smaller. I came based on the many good reviews. Upon arriving the lady was very nice and took her time measuring me. She was hemming 3 dresses and taking in one of the dresses slightly. I asked for the price and was told to call later down the line. I tried calling a few times to get status of the dresses and the price but there was a huge language barrier and wasn't able to get a clear answer. I ultimately wasn't able to get the price until arriving a month later. It ended up being $450 to hem the 3 dresses which was way more than I expected to spend. We had such a heavy language barrier we weren't able to communicate at all. So I ultimately had to pay it and go because we werent able to understand eachother. I was very taken aback by the amount and had I known the cost upfront I would've went to my original tailor that is much further away. I chose this tailor because it was much closer and all the reviews said they were fairly priced. I have lived in the Cascades area for almost 20 years now. I have used Pervin to tailor my shirts, pants and suits. Bringing them out as I got older...and occasionally in :) They have always delivered correctly and on time the first time around. Most recently, every couple of months since my son was 6 years old (he is 9 now) he has come into Pervin to get his new Taekwondo badge sown on to his belt or a new patch placed on his uniform. Which was very nice because another placed I called said it was too much of a short notice. When I got to the shop she greeted me and shortly after already had my dressed pinned and ready to be worked on. I came in on Tuesday evening and the dress was ready by Thursday at 3pm. I tried the dress on again and it seemed to fit better than before but, at the wedding it was still slightly slipping down from my chest. This review is compiled from two seperate experiences. I have owned and loved a pair of Diesel jeans for over three years. Unfortunately, during these years the jeans have worn in the crotch, leaving an embarassing hole in the inner thighs. The tailor patched this unsightly injury with matching thread and denim swatch, I could hardly see the repair when I picked them up! Another time I purchased a heavily-distressed pair of Joe's Jeans, the boutique I got them from did not hem their jeans. I sent the jeans to Pervin's who reattached the original shredded hem to the new length with nary a stitch out of place, well done! read more

Thank you yelp for this find! Finding a good tailor for me is extremely difficult. First off, I'm about 5'7, 150lbs, thin build. You could say I'd be the perfect H&M / Topman / Uniqlo / Theory fit model (I wear a 34R H&M suit jacket.) I used to take my suits and blazers to Dulles Custom Tailor but I noticed each time there was always an imperfection. The fit was never where I wanted and I always had to take my things back to them. Not only that, they are expensive! I needed to get two blazers tapered a bit in the chest and the arms tapered. Was quoted $270! Now I took three suit jackets here that needed the arms tapered as well as the chest. I was originally quoted $225. Not too bad and from the reviews on here I took the chance. I came back today to pick them up and they dropped the price down to $165! And I threw the jackets on and they fit perfectly. I have a few more jackets I plan on taking to them to have done after seeing the great work that they did on my first three. And a few helpful tips for the gentlemen. Before going to a tailor, you need to know what exactly you want to do. Had I walked in and asked what they (the tailor shop) thought was best, I'm sure the suits I brought in would've fit a lot boxier and baggier. The owners of this fine establishment are an older couple and actually were teasing me about how younger guys want their suits to fit "skin tight." Nothing wrong with that since it was all in good fun. The other tip for guys is you should buy the suit in your size before actually getting one tailored. If you are a 38 and buy a 40, even with all the tailoring in the world the suit won't fit as good in the end. It really isn't that hard. Otherwise, I highly recommend Pervin. read more

This woman is traditional and "old-school" but definitely worth the time and price. I've trusted Pervin to perform the alterations to my wedding dress, bridesmaid dress, hubby's blazer and tux. These are items that were very expensive $5000+ and treasured forever, so finding the right person was crucial. She has great craft, ethic, and knows how to creatively get things done. You could pretty much give her anything and she will transform it into what you want. Found out that the people who worked for her, copied/learned and then created another shop that charges even more and produces poor quality - sad to know and I unfortunately went there one time thinking it was a 2nd shop of hers (bad service). I chose Pervin after reading reviews. I was going to a client facing conference in Orlando and needed a new suit completely tailored, not just some hemming. I only had four days to get it done. They offered to get it done in two days but since I couldn't get back there until four days later anyway so I told them to take their time. I have small shoulders and am not tall so my wedding dress needed quite a few alterations to it. The alterations were good but a few things made me not want to go back First, during the alterations, the dress got dirty and there was no time to get it cleaned. I dealt with it because it was a small spot, but it still was not okay to me. Secondly, when I bought my dress I bought a nice garment bag for it. When I was getting ready to take my dress home from the alterations shop, I asked for the bag back but the tailor couldn't find it so she gave me a different one. They probably sent mine home with someone else. In its place, they gave me a very cheap, probably free for another bride, garment bag that was even a bit dirty inside. So not only did I leave without a good garment bag for my dress, but I lost the money that I paid for mine. My only regret is not speaking up and demanding money for the bag that they lost. read more

Came in for my bridesmaids dress, it was very long so I had to get it hemmed and also tighten up the chest area a bit. Dress fits perfectly (didn't even tried it until the wedding). I would give the shop's actual work 5 stars. She did a beautiful job with my wedding dress and altered it the way I wanted. The way she altered everything, my dress truly fit like a glove! The reason I don't give 5 stars overall is for several reasons: 1.) I've been there probably around 7 times. I would say 4 of those times she was not even in and I was told at first "come back around 1, she will PROBABLY be back by then." The most recent time (today) even though the shop CLEARLY said it was open, the man out front said, "she will PROBABLY be back around 2 or 3, I don't know." So I asked how I'm supposed to know she will be in and all he said was, "just call her, that's the best I can tell you." If you are not even in, you should not advertise that you have such long hours open. Or at least keep it consistent when you are going to be in because it has been different every single time. 2.) I was told to pick up my wedding dress after a designated date (mind you, this was several months). So, I came when I was instructed to and it wasn't ready so I was turned away again. Why wouldn't she at least call me to tell me it wouldn't be ready? It was not a last minute alteration; I had given it closer to a year before my actual wedding. 3.) Though I had certain requests for my wedding dress, she aggressively argued from beginning to end, "No thay would look very bad" etc. In the end after I said I would just take it elsewhere, she said she will do it because she would rather have my business. Maybe she was just having a bad day because she was snapping and very irritated that visit, but all the following visits after that she was very pleasant. Long story short, she is very very talented and will do a beautiful job with what she is handed. However, I would call ahead to check if she is even in or to make sure that your order is complete because those parts of her business are very very inconsistent. I personally probably will not be back because I have been turned away more than half the times I've gone because either she has not been in (even though the shop says it is open) and orders taken well ahead of time have been late with no warning until I actually show up. read more

I tried Pervin's, in the downtown-like area near Godfather's Pizza on the recommendation of a coworker. (To avoid the "hassle and price" with the DC tailors known to us). It was not a great experience overall. When people say she's old-school, it means her attitude is IDGAF, and given that I'm not going to turn over my entire wardrobe until I know your quality, she really missed the mark here. Despite being the only folks there after lunch, she still didn't deign to give what I would consider attentive or quality service. She brusquely pinned me up, said measurements were unnecessary (look, I get it, a true pro can lean on artistry over mechanical precision), but the unwillingness to listen to your client is a big risk. In this case, it led to unhappy results. Perhaps her art is more Picasso, less Rembrandt. The stitching was not sloppy, but the chosen paths were (lazy, overlapping material, ignoring seam lines). Worse, the sleeves pulled terribly - not a good fit. Upon pickup, she embarked on a "oh, that's the new style, everybody wants everything short." Old-school attitude: substituting your perceived taste of the masses for an individual customer's. If your skills could back it up, I'd put my own opinions aside - not so here. The final nail: her prices were more than two DC tailors. (Side-note, my coworker bet she wasn't, and had to pay up, giving me a free, crappy tailoring). Also off-putting was how she sized us up, and seemed to "think" with a hmmmmm... as she dropped the price on us. Don't give me that crap. Given how unable she was to listen or take my considerations into creating a proper look, this is a tailor that is set in her ways, and her ways don't match my tastes. Update (July 2017) -- Revising from 5 stars to 2 stars. I had a pleasant 1st experience here.. so much I recommended my mom to come here. She did & was told her shirt was going to be ready by a certain date but it wasn't. My mom is a really busy lady & took time out of her day to go pick up her shirt which turned out wasn't ready by the scheduled date & was told to come back the next day so she did. She asked the lady if she can have some type of discount for her inconvenience & the lady told her no which was fine but then also put it in my mom's face that none of her customers have ever asked that even when it was an inconvenience to them. Ha!.... ok. Anyway, both my mom & I will not be coming back here. Original review (Dec 2016) -- I my dress there to get altered for the first time and it was awesome. The lady that worked there, I believe was the owner, did a great job on my dress & price was reasonable. Even better was her welcoming personality. Just picked up my order, and the work was all done well: * 1 denim jean hemmed * 3 wool pants hemmed * 4 shirts "slimmed" (taken-in?) Specifically, the hem on the jeans was reattached using contrasting thread after the leg was shortened, so it looks "off the rack." The pants were hemmed a tad shorter than I expected, but I was told this "break" was more appropriate for a slim / tapered leg. The hems were done with more stitches than I have seen elsewhere. Lastly, the seams on the shirts were cut and restitched, again resulting in an "off the rack" appearance. Bravo! read more
