Pompton Lakes, NJ - my toddler loved his first haircut experience here! Raquel was very sweet and patient with him, and he got to sit in a car chair and pick a show to watch while getting his hair cut, so he really enjoyed it and was happy and cooperative the whole time. They let us take many photos, and Raquel even offered to take photos of our family together. My kiddo received his "first haircut" certificate at the end with a snip of hair, making his first experience very special and memorable. We were going from long to short so I was figuring out the style we liked as we went along, but Raquel was extremely patient and open to feedback. The cut was slightly choppy in parts as I felt a longer sized blade could've been used on top for a smoother fade, but it wasn't egregious and the hair was styled so I didn't really notice until I got home. Next time I will bring a photo as an illustration. Do tell her what you like and don't like so she can fix it there. We called to make an appointment - it was easy and they were able to accommodate us the same morning. The owner is very friendly. The store is clean, with three vehicle seats in the front for smaller kids (each decorated with a different theme), and regular barber stations in the back. I will never go to this shop again. The barber cut off my son's eyebrow by mistake and then denied that she did it. WHO ELSE WOULD HAVE DONE IT???? And then the manager didn't even TRY to apologize or anything he just sided with the barber. I have been a customer there for years and I will never step foot in there again. read more

We took our son for his very first haircut and could not have been happier! The shop was super clean and we had to have our temperatures recorded when we went in. We felt perfectly comfortable even given the strange situation world is in. Michael did the haircut and was absolutely amazing. He was careful to introduce all the tools to our little one and played with him while he cut his hair. When we were done they even gave us a certificate with the 1st clipping to take home! I did not particularly enjoy the haircut my son got but he is only a few months old. My daughters haircut was nice though and it was quick. I think it could be a bit cleaner, the cars have seen better days and could use a good deep clean. Otherwise the place is nice. read more

Place looks a lot neater inside and they do deserve compliments for making the experience as pleasant as possible, especially when your child may dislike the idea of getting a haircut. Past review: We've taken our son here three or four times. It's always busy, appointments are necessary. I find the prices very high for a little one - around $25 with the tip, for about 10 mins of cutting! There is plenty to distract him from the project at hand (DVDs, toys, etc.) but by the time the DVD gets going the haircut is almost over anyway. The place is not as clean as one might expect for a kids'salon - floors and shelves seemed dusty and unkept. read more

The only place I will take my two toddlers to. Their appointments are easily available and flexible. The stylist do a great job with different hairstyles, and they're friendly along with the people at the front desk. Prices are fair. They also have toys/books/coloring for kids while they wait. Well my wife went to get an updo for our 5 year old daughter. Our fault we were unaware if the price ahead of time but when all was said and done the charge was $75. On top of that on the 15 min car ride home it had started falling out which had to be fixed by my wife's salon down the street. My wife paid $55 for her adult updo. We had been taking the kids here for what we already thought were expensive haircuts with mixed results but it was convenient and kept the kids entertained with the children's themes. Will not be going back after this latest experience. I feel like I can cut the kids' hair better while sitting them in front of my TV. The $75 was really outrageous. read more

My kids love this place. They have the walls painted at each cutting station with a different kids theme. They have a tv with a DVD player at each station. But they will accommodate a walk-in if they can. Plus they do a lot for the community including promoting other businesses and raising money for charity. I just left there and am extremely disappointed. My daughter is almost 4 with very, very thin, short hair. I explained I wanted to bangs trimmed and the hair just lightly cleaned up. The hairdresser was very nice, and even did 2 small braids and some glitter in my daughter's hair. The whole experience was MAYBE 7 minutes total. Charged: $29. I said "That much for something that was basically a bang trim?" The girl behind the counter said if it was just bangs it would have only been $10. It basically was JUST a bang trim. The girl saw how upset I was about the price yet did nothing to appease me. I had an appointment for my son there later today but canceled it. A 5-7 minute trim should not cost $29. I took my 22 month old here for a hair cut and to say the least, he was not interested in having his hair cut. He kept pushing the stylist away and screaming. She was very patient with him and somehow managed to give him a great looking haircut in just a few minutes despite his lack of cooperation. I highly recommend this place. Everyone was friendly, Lindsay did a good job cutting my 3 year old daughter's hair (first haircut), and the price was ok ($25, without a wash, but including free nailpolish). The only thing I didn't like is that the place is seriously outdated. Chairs are old, decorations are old, everything needs a makeover. It wasn't dirty, but it seemed like it because stickers are peeling off of things, etc. I would have liked to have taken my daughter to a nicer place for her first haircut, but like I said, they did a good job and my kid was comfortable. It's sad that a family run small business would turn a customer away. This place closes at 5:00 on Sunday. I called just after 4:30 to say I was right down the street and wanted to get my 2 boys in for a quick cut. I was told they were closed.... and then he said they were all booked up until 5. I was passing by anyway so decided to look in to see NO customers....2 employees behind the counter and one sweeping. I went in to ask for the owner. Turns out it was the man who answered the phone. He lied telling me they were booked up...then he proceeded to tell me "we are closed, the hairstylists all went home for the day." I get it people want to go home, but don't lie and turn down business when your hours state that you are still open. Bad way to do business. read more

My 10 yr old daughter won a free haircut at Zayna's during the Holiday Stroll. I made an appointment for a haircut. I get there and the lady sits my daughter in a chair and is about to give her a haircut without washing it first. When I stop her to ask if she is going to wash my daughters hair before cutting it, she told me "No, your daughter won a childs haircut. I only spray it wet and then cut." I explain that that she needs to have her hair washed prior to having a proper haircut. The lady stated that would be a "tween haircut" which would cost me about $40! No one told me that when she won the "free haircut". And instead of doing the proper thing and just washing it, she basically just asked if I want the child's haircut or not?! I walked out. Way to do business lady! Your nasty demeanor and bad business practice gets you 1 star. read more

My daughter had her hair done for her First Holy communion. Zayna's staff was courteous, helpful and her hair turned out gorgeous! Although pricey, it was well worth the money since she had to be at the church at 8:30 in the morning. I was completely ready, had the 7:30 appointment, and they allowed her to change into her dress there so the whole morning ran smoothly. I love Zayna's! My son is 8 and Moody is the only person who has ever cut his hair! We live in Bergen county and drive 45 minutes just so my son (who has long hair by the way) can have Moody cut his hair. Then entire staff at Zayna's are super sweet! Not only that but they are always doing fundraisers which my son has had the privilege of being a part of, and giving back to the community. Great place!! read more
