Zen glow hits it out of the park again!! Today I went and got my hair washed, bangs trimmed, blown out and styled to perfection by Renet, usually my hair is styled by Courtney. Renet also did a wonderful job on my pedicure. Sure to be back again. In fact I've pre- booked 3 other appointments for the summer. Sue (owner) is excellent at scheduling to fit the time you need. I read reviews before I called. Most were Massages. Worst, Worst manicure I ever had. Never told me $15 to remove polish. Owner let the young girls tell you when your in the middle and committed. Never heard of such a thing. No soak, no cutting of cuticles, no cleaning under nails, no lotion after. Owner kept interrupting girl doing my nails. The young girls are very sweet. When paying, total was $45. I told the owner of my concerns and she just said oh well sorry your not happy. Itwas somthing my kid would do on a night she was free. This is my first review ever. I visited Zen Glow with my friend on a Saturday as a special treat from our boyfriends. We both got massages and facials and I was very happy at the end of my visit! Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the women who did our treatments, but both were extremely friendly and did their best to make us feel at home and comfortable during our visit. The massage therapist was happy to customize everything about my massage to suit my taste. The dermasound facial was wonderful--she told me exactly what she was doing and offered specialized suggestions for my skin--without the judgement you sometimes feel. Before I left I purchased some jojoba lotion that Sue had made herself. They used it as a hydrating mask during my facial and I loved it. Overall, a great experience. This is a no-frills homey spa and the staff is very welcoming. Great prices too. I would definitely go back! read more

Today I made an appointment for $36 Short and Sweet Pedicure(30 minutes). Ashley, the nail technician was friendly and professional!! While filling the foot bath, the whirlpool mechanism wasn't working properly. Ashley took it out and tried to fix it twice because of the noise. Another person whom I presume was the owner/manager came over also to attempt to remedy the situation but to no avail. When Ashley went to open the prepackaged nail files, it was not complete and she had to get another. Meanwhile the "owner/manager" said to Ashley while passing through the room, this is a Short and Sweet pedicure which Ashley replied, I know. I mention all of this because when Ashley presented the bill, I was charged $42. She said it was changed because it took 45 minutes. I went to the "owner/manager" and objected to the price and I said I was quoted $36 which she replied but it took 45 minutes, which I replied, that is not my problem. Ashley had to attend to the faulty foot bath and improper packaging. I was upset and instead of calming me down with an explanation as a professional, the "owner/manager" was unprofessional and spoke with an attitude as if was my fault to be upset. I couldn't believe how she handled this. I was finally given the price I was originally quoted but after I had become rattled. An "I'm sorry" from the "owner/mannger/ when I signed the credit card was said without sincerity. I will NEVER go back. I wish I could leave zero stars. This was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had. Not only at a salon/spa, but in general. The owner was nasty and consistently made hurtful and negative comments towards me and the family members I was with. I had three terrible services (due to being locked in since we pre-paid for a wedding) but I'll focus on just one for the purpose of this review. The pedicure I had came out so awful that I was embarrassed to show my feet after. There were streak marks in the clear polish on both my large toes like she only painted half of the toe. My skin became white and flaky afterward all over my toes and feet which has never happened to me before. Going in, my feet had no flaky peeling skin, so I have no idea how they achieved this. Apparently someone quit weeks prior and they didn't have the staff to complete our schedules manicure pedicures on time. They did not notify us beforehand or try to accommodate us in any way. When we asked where the additional staff member was, they said it's "not their fault they quit." After being there for over 2 hours for a basic mani/pedi and 2 of us still waiting for get manicures, we asked to speed up or cut down on out services, the owner was rude and said that they were "on time" since they "had us booked" for a 2.5 hour slot for a basic mani/pedi (3 people at the same time) They did not tell us this beforehand, nor would anyone intend on spending 2.5 hours for what ended up being a subpar pedi and a glorified polish change with no dry time. Even if someone had not "quit" they did not have the resources to provide the services they booked with us because there is only 1 licensed manicurist on premise and they said we could have 3 manis at the same time. I would avoid this place at all costs because the it's not just the quality of the services that is horrendous, but since the owner is like Jekyl and Hyde, she will turn your "spa" time there into a nightmare. read more

This is the worst and most expensive manicure and pedicure I have ever received. The manicurist barely filed my nails and did not cut my cuticles. She didn't even paint my entire nail on the majority of my fingernails and I had nail polish all over my hands by the end. Things followed suit with my pedicure. She is rude, demeaning to her staff, and vial to people on the phone. I'm not exaggerating at all. In the hour I spent here I heard her bitch and complain to and about anyone she came in contact with. The only saving grace was the staff that works here. They were attentive and helpful as well as did a truly great job, which is saying a lot considering their working conditions. I NEVER complain about anything, honestly. But, the manicure I received was by far the worst experience I've ever had. I came in wearing dark polish (not shellac)and the girl servicing me used one cotton ball to remove 10 nails of OPI Lincoln Park After Dark! Needless to say, my nails and cuticles were black after she "removed" the polish. I actually hinted to her that she may want to use more cotton to actually remove all the polish. I assumed her thought process was "well the rest will come off when I soak her nails". Upon completion of the polish removal she NEVER soaked my nails, nor put on a liquid cuticle remover rather just started filing my nails, quickly leaving sharp edges. She never buffed, soaked, NOTHING. Then started painting which was completely shotty. She didn't come close to cuticles or edges of nails. I had to keep asking her to do the WHOLE nail but nope! Then at the end, she didn't swipe my entire nail with rubbing alcohol which left the shellac sticky and gummy. 1 hour later and my polish was already peeling off. I went back to insist on a refund and they were closed. So frustrating and disappointing. 30$ and a tip down the drain! read more

Went to this salon twice this weekend, for a mani/pedi and then to get my hair done for a wedding as a bridesmaid. I had one of the worst pedicures I've ever had. The whole experience was subpar and the polish was applied so thick that when I wore flats 8 hours afterwards the polish was messed up and looked awful. For my hair, the stylist was very nice and did a fine job but the whole experience was not good. The owner is unorganized and frazzled and we were rushed because they had booked another party only an hour after ours started (three people for hair and two for make up). The energy was way less then zen and the salon could use some help with time management and creating a better experience for clients. Also a real POS system would really help them keep track of payments. There was some confusion with their hand written note receipts. I would recommend seeking another place in the area or giving them some time to work out some of the management issues. I hope they can turn the experience around because the staff was friendly. read more

I used Zen Glow for bridal services. I was hoping to get my hair and makeup done just as I had wanted from the reference images I brought in. My bad experience began by the rude greeting from the receptionist. Then, my makeup trial was an absolute disaster. The girl who did my makeup made me look like a clown, and I have the photos to prove it. I had black smudges on my eyes and eyeliner that looked like a 6year old put it on. The ladies that work at zen glow wear many hats, so the person putting on my makeup for my wedding day had a pedicure appointment that she was rushing to finish on time for. Even after I told her I would like some changes, she just shrugged me off and said "okay we will do that for the real day." I didn't have confidence that it would turn out so I chose to not get my makeup done at Zen Glow and just get my hair done there instead. (My hair, thank goodness, turned out wonderfully and the stylist was great-the only reason I would give this place any stars). Overall, I am just incredibly disappointed by the management's response to my bad experience. Not only was the makeup service incredibly unprofessional, but the customer service after the fact was terrible too. Susan, the manager/owner, made no effort to apologize or make up for the bad experience. In addition, she completely over charged me for the services. I ended up paying over $200 to get my hair done (the horrible makeup trial was included in my bill!) I do not recommend this salon for makeup services, and beware of management's customer service. From the get go, I had a hard time getting Susan, the owner of Zen Glow, to respond to my e-mail and voice mail requests, This should have been a red flag, but she did finally respond over a month after my last e-mail and let me know her father had passed away and that she had dropped the ball. I appreciated this explanation and didn't think twice about there ever being future issues.Long story short, I ran into several communication issues following this initial contact, but again, to me the fact that her company was on your preferred list meant that they were trusted despite not being great at communication. Two weeks prior to my appointment, the owner (after I called to confirm) told me my appointment was an hour later than she had initially set it for, and twice she confused me with another client. She often acted like we had never even spoken and could never remember who I was. It felt insincere but I figured she had many clients so I understood. My appointment was this past Saturday at 11 AM. Upon arrival, she was washing her front porch windows and shook my hand which was soaked in dirty window water, which she laughed about (gross). I went into the salon and was immediately glared at by two fellow associates. Susan had to ask who I was (didn't I have an 11AM appointment??) and did not introduce me to either of the two girls who were going to be working with me. I sat down and Susan left, she did not talk to me about what was going to be done, who the stylists were, she did not ask about the wedding, did not offer even water. I know I may sound high maintenance here, but if I'm going to spend $150 on trial hair and makeup, I'd expect to be treated like a quality customer and at least be offered water. I did ask the stylist however. The makeup artist asked what I wanted done...this shocked me as I was crystal clear in my appointment set up, and I did send bridal info to the owner...I explained that I was there for a bridal trial and I showed her photos of the makeup style I was looking for. I specially asked for a smokey dramatic eye, light pink lips and cheeks, and she seemed to understand very well. Despite having no personality I let her go to work. She didn't speak to me AT ALL. It was incredibly uncomfortable and I felt like an inconvenience. The makeup she was using was ELF and NYC...both extremely cheap brands priced between $1-$4 per product. For spending $65 on the makeup alone, I was pretty shocked that high quality products weren't being used. In the contract I signed for the trial, I had indicated that I wanted air brushing which was an option. The girl doing my makeup made no mention so I asked about it...she told me they didn't have an airbrush gun yet but they were working on it...yikes! Was I going to be the Guinean pig the day of our wedding? Let me tell you...I am NO makeup professional..but I can assure you that I could have done a better job with my eyes closed. when I looked in the mirror I was shocked in a terrible way. My eye liner was EXTREMELY uneven, I had NO mascara, only 2 or 3 fake eye lashes on each lid which were not on my lash line properly, my eyes had a brown shadow only in the crease and it was not remotely blended or smokey, my eyebrows were extremely unnatural, my lip color was brown and looked ridiculous. I had to ask her to remove lip liner from my face because it went SO FAR beyond my natural lip line. I was so embarrassed of myself in the mirror. She then told me I was getting my hair done by someone else, seated me, and the girl doing my hair said "what do you want me to do"...!!! Yeesh! More inconvenience to these girls! I showed her photos and in a nut shell, it was not remotely close to what I showed...she literally curled my hair and that was it. I could have done this myself for free, yet I was charged somewhere around $60. While getting my hair curled, I heard the owner yell at two you kids playing outside.. she shouted "SHUT UP" out the window because she said she was sick of hearing them. When I finished, I was dying to leave and there was no way I was coming back. Not a single employee complimented my hair or makeup and I wanted to hide under a rock, I felt ugly and embarrassed. When I told Susan I was going to hold off on the final appointment, she became extremely rude and said "Well I'm sorry you're so unhappy, you should have told us what you wanted", I was mortified! I never told her I was unhappy because I didn't want to be rude to her or the girls who spent all of 60 mins total with me. She said it loud enough for the others to hear me and they glared at me with incredibly dirty looks. AWKWARD!! I ended up meeting up with my fiance who was across the street eating with a friend. When I told them the story, the waitress said that no one ever goes to that salon because it's a revolving door, unprofessional, and that the owner is extremely well known for being rude. Went here as part of a bridal party in summer 2015. Everything was set up months in advance but we still dealt with scheduling problems. The owner was not friendly whatsoever. The girls doing hair/nails/makeup were pleasant enough but the tension between them and the owner was palpable. Nails seemed to come out fine for me, other members of the bridal party ruined quickly. I was not impressed with the hair or make-up. I asked for a light fresh look and have literally never had so much heavy makeup on my face and it was very bland looking at that. I had to point out to the makeup artist that there was mascara all over my face. Instead of wiping it off she just covered it with more liquid makeup. I'm no makeup artist myself so I thought it would be good to have a professional do it, but I wish I had done it myself in the end. I have know the owner for years. When I heard she was opening this salon and spa I was thrilled for her (and us!) The feel of this place is fresh, comfortable, calming, and quality. The offerings are natural and very effective. I am a florist in the area and I would recommend this to the most discerning client and to all my brides to be. I had a terrible experience with zen glow. The customer service I received from the owner ruined what could have been a good experience. I booked in February for an August wedding. I booked for two days (one for nails, one for hair and make up) the first thing that seemed a little odd was that we had to pay the balance in full weeks before the wedding. A little strange. Both appts I had were double booked and we were told to leave early on the day of our nails appt. One of my bridesmaids had to go back hours later and was told they didn't have time for her. (Again it was booked in February and already paid for) On the day of the wedding the girl who did my hair trial was not there. I had previously asked and was told she would be doing my hair. Because they had double booked this day too the owner wanted the girls to do my hair and makeup at the exact same time to finish up for their next appt. (Thankfully the makeup artist didn't because the lighting was not good to do it that way) I did however have to fix my hair after leaving and myself and another girl had to fix our nails after leaving the salon because they smudged hours later when they should have been dried. This again goes along with the rushed service and disorganization. The disorganization and terrible customer service lead me to not recommend this salon, especially for bridal parties. Aside from the couple things we needed to fix ourselves the stylists did a fine job but the way we were treated by the owner left me very upset while preparing for my wedding. read more

The place is very clean and had a relaxing vibe, however on top of being one of the more expensive manicures I have ever had, it was also the worst... ever. No soaking nails, no pushing cuticles back, no lotion or hand rub at the end. My hands never touched water, I had hangnails that were left, and the paint job was awful! It didn't even cover my nails. my nails were filed and painted and that was it, 10 mins total. I wish I had looked at the Yelp reviews prior to booking for my wedding. The person who I had gone to for my make up trial a month prior was no longer working there and so the owner was going to redo a make up trial. After multiple time of telling her I wanted a natural look, she insisted that she knew better and used dark eyebrow make up which was not applied well and it looked as if I had a stroke and my face was totally uneven. My mother and maid of honor went to get manicures and pedicures before the rehearsal dinner and when we showed up there were only two people there to work on us even though we were told there would be 3, and only one of the two was credentialed to do manicures. My sister, who was sitting there waiting for her pedicure offered to take her own nail polish off to speed up the process when they got to her, then got yelled at by the owner for using two cotton balls and wasting her money... Two COTTON BALLS. The only reason I didn't just get up and leave at that point was because my wedding was the next day and I literally had no other options for hair and make up unless I did it myself. The next day, my mother and sister got their hair done and ended up having to take it out and redo it themselves. I will tell you though, my hair had turned out very very well. I cannot complain about the way my hair and make up ended up coming out, but I did have to be very stern and push back on my make up as it was getting done. The customer service is Awful here and I would never and will never return to this salon and urge you to look elsewhere especially if you are wanting someone to do your wedding. read more

My cousin and I wanted to donate our hair and get it styled. It was July 3rd, so most of the salons we called were either booked or couldn't accommodate two persons at the same time. After calling many salons we finally came contacted Zen Glow. The person who answered the phone said that they had two openings at 1:15, so we booked our appointments. We arrived at the salon at 12:50 (I always show up to my hair appointments 15-20 minutes early). The woman who was at the counter said that they were running a bit behind and could we please come back in half an hour or so. We returned within 35 minutes to find that the hairdresser was still working on a cut, so we waited for another 10 minutes for her to finish. By this time some dude had shown up for his 1:30 appointment. The hairdresser asked him if he minded waiting to which he said "not at all" and took a seat outside. At first the lady seemed like she knew what she was doing; she showed me what nine inches looked like and said she would have no problem cutting my hair to look like the picture I showed her. Then she began cutting off the ponytail she had sectioned. Now I had been riding in a car with the windows down and had casually pushed my hair to one side in a sort of deep part and I expected that the hairdresser would know enough to part it down the middle or something in order to make it even--she didn't though. I was a little surprised, but I assumed she would part it differently after she had washed it and cut it again to even it out. That is why I was so shocked when she merely cut a bit more hair to "even it out" and then called it good. She simply cut around my head in a circle: she didn't re-part it, she didn't wet it down, and she didn't give me any sort of shape or layers like in the picture I had shown her. It was hard to tell when I was sitting in the salon chair, but it seemed like may hair was pretty even, so I thanked her and was happy with what seemed like a good haircut. Later, when I got home, I looked in the mirror and was horrified to see that if any of the hairs from the left side of my head came over the the right side, the strands would be a good three inches longer. The back was completely uneven and looked kind of like a bull cut. My cousin didn't have any better luck. Shortly after she had finished my hair, she asked my cousin to wait so she could do the gentleman's hair who had been waiting. Now she had only taken 10 minutes tops to cut my hair and then she went and spent a good twenty on this man's locks which were already quite short... When she had finished with him, she took my cousin and my cousin explained to her what she wanted. She told her that half of her hair was straightened and the other half had been in braids so it was wavy. She asked if the hairdresser would wash it to ensure that it came out even after she had cut the ponytail. The lady said that this would be no problem and began cutting the hair. She then began to "even" it (once again she just left the crooked part) and then brought my cousin out back to wash her hair. When my cousin sat back in the seat she was expecting the lady to begin to cut her hair like they had talked about, but instead she just began to blow-dry it. Like, what?! My cousin didn't say anything because she thought, like I had, that her hair was even, so she didn't complain. The hairdresser kept saying that our hair looked amazing, so I think we kind of believed her. It wasn't until we got home that we realized that our hair had been ruined. It was all completely uneven and longer pieces were peaking out from everywhere, I can only wear my hair in a deep side part or it looks like I took scissors to my hair blindfolded and I can't wear it straight or the unevenness is super noticeable. My cousin feels the same way and can't wait to get to Great Clips so that they can even it out for her. It truly is super embarrassing. I will say that I do not agree with the reviews that the customer service is terrible; on the contrary I found all of the staff to be very kind and welcoming. I will also say that neither of us minded all of the waiting as the salon did accommodate us on a whim. It was truly the horrific haircuts that has earned the one-star review. read more

In March, I booked three wedding up-dos for my Friday wedding in October (7 months in advance). The salon had me prepay half of the services that day (non-refundable) - although I did do it, I thought it strange - even our venue did not require a sizable deposit like that. Three weeks later my wedding was unexpectedly put on hold due to a health situation, and I found myself having to cancel my previously scheduled appointments. I see others have posted positive comments about their experiences once they arrived at Zen Glow, but communicating with Susan at Zen Glow was a struggle. Obviously the last thing I wanted to do was cancel my wedding, but after inquiring about receiving my deposit back, and a months worth of phone calls from me asking if she had had time to look at my cancellation appointments, she mailed me a check for half of the initial deposit. Apparently, it cost about $100 to schedule an appointment 7 months in advance, and then cancel that appointment only a few weeks later (for a Friday, not even the weekend). I would recommend staying away from Zen Glow. I am thankful I do not live in the area, and have plenty of options once we look to hopefully reschedule our wedding for a place closer to home. read more

Let me start with the positive. The owner is very nice, friendly and pleasant. The spa is cute and appears clean. It has a lot of items that she has made herself from sugar scrubs to sachets of essential oils. Loved the chair massage and who wouldn't want to soak their feet in a hot bath of salts and peppermint? It all started out fine. I was there for a pedicure. as stated it started with a nice soak followed by a massage of a sugar scrub to exfoliate. More massage with lotion and it's all feeling great. This is where it goes down hill. She starts to trim my nails and file in truly a half -assed way. I will cut to the bottom line and say I could have done a better job myself on my nails. There was no buffing my nails to smooth the surface. There was no base coat applied.They were rough with pieces of nail ready to come off, taking the polish with it. She colored "outside the lines" on many of my toes leaving me to pick it off and I got 1 coat of polish that was very thin on some toes. No top coat. I have crooked nails on some of my toes where there was a nice long nail when I went into the spa. I don't know what happened here, I really wanted to like this place but I'm very disappointed in the quality of my pedicure and I won't be going back. read more

Went back to Zen Glow again today for eyelash removal. No complaints to location where I had lashes originally done, the lashes were just growing out and I did not want to do upkeep on them - mascara suits me fine and am going to try Blinc Mascara that Sue recommended and sells at the spa - although I have to admit those fake lashes looked really cool before they grew out. Sue does lash application as well - she did a great job removing the lashes, it was totally painless, I still have my real lashes (meaning she did not rip any of my real lashes out during the process) and she smoothed on a soothing hemp cream (that she makes herself!!!) around my eyes as a treatment. AWESOME! Also had a massage treatment by therapist Megan Morrill, and it was heavenly. Megan is tiny so she doesn't look very strong, but she did a great job and I highly recommend her - very relaxing! Everyone I have met that works at Zen seems happy to be working there, they are all very positive and work very hard to accommodate their clients and make sure they have a good experience. I used Zen Glow for Bridal services for my wedding at the end of August. I had about 11 women getting hair and makeup done for the event. There were 2 makeup artists and two hairstylists in the salon for our appointment. We arrived at 10 am and were finished by 2, which was ahead of schedule. Everyone was pleased with what they had done. The stylists listened to what the girls wanted and they all loved how it turned out. For me, my makeup came out incredible...after ever part of the application I was asked for my opinion before she moved onto the next part and changed whatever I did not like, even if it was the most minor thing that no one else would notice. I also had airbrush makeup done which was amazing. My hair was great as well. I ended up changing my style from what I had done at my trial and it all turned out perfect. Susan was very welcoming to us and made the experience very calm and fun. The only thing that was a little confusing was the checkout/final payment for the services. We had given a deposit of half the cost months before the wedding and it was a little unclear as to what the remaining balance was for each person compared to the total/what was paid already.
