I have been going to Zen since it opened, and I highly recommend their service!! Although I have felt ostracized in the past for getting my hair cut as a man in a fancy hair salon, this has always been a most welcome environment! Female clients are always happy and smiling also, and we share stories while we are there together. All the hairdressers are very friendly, and I'm even on a first name basis with Leah, the salon owner, who greets me warmly every time I come in. The girls at the front desk are very helpful and accommodating when I make my appointments, and they always call me the day before to confirm that I am still available. More than once, they have been able to reschedule for me at the last minute, and always go above and beyond to meet my specific needs. I will continue to make my appointments with Jessica as long as she continues to cut hair, and she will keep making me feel great about myself while she goes the extra mile to send me away with a sense of personal style and sophistication that I have never gotten elsewhere. I even my my hair products right here while I'm getting my cut, as she knows exactly what my specific head of hair needs from working with it for so long! It's super convenient!! I work in the school district in Clifton Park and believe in supporting the local businesses that support me. I have been going to Zen Hair Studio for many years. The hair stylists are excellent and strive to please their customers. After reading the negative comment that was made by a disgruntled customer a few years ago, I feel I must speak in defense of Zen. The people at Zen are all professionals who, at times, may have more personal conversation with their customers. I always thought of it as an opportunity to get to know them on a more personal level but some people might see that as unnecessary. People who make negative criticisms (like the one posted in 2017) may have difficulty getting along with other people. Perhaps the best thing for her to do would have been to confront the owner one-on-one before making comments like this. I like going to Zen. Their current location is very nice and much easier to enter and exit the parking lot. The hair stylists know what they are doing and are super nice people. I appreciate the way they share their knowledge and expertise with each. Late in August this year, I walked in one afternoon completely sick of my long hair and straightening it a few times each week. I asked if they had an opening, and if they cut hair for donations. My hair was long enough to donate to Locks of Love. The receptionist gave me an appointment for a few hours later that day. When I returned, I showed my new hair stylist a picture of what I was looking for as my new style. Gabby did an amazing job! She was very attentive and listened to what I wanted. At one point I thought the cut was looking different from what I asked for. I pointed it out to her. She immediately explained what she was doing and how it was going to be shaped at the end. I have received so many compliments on my new style. I just had to write this review. Anyone thinking about stopping in or calling for an appointment should DO IT!! read more

Started going to Zen a few years ago after my long-term stylist retired. Both my daughters had gone to Leah for years before moving out of the area (one of them used to make appointments even when she lived several hours away!) as did my best friend. Leah did a fabulous job for both of my girls' wedding hair. For many, many years I colored my own hair and had to be convinced that a professional color would make such a HUGE difference! Leah has been doing my hair for about 2 years now and I feel that my hair is fresh and new! She also tempers the depth of the color depending on the season....totally natural! The shop is always clean and ALL the employees are very courteous and friendly. Have been going to this salon for quite sometime- and am never unhappy. Always offered something to drink from the friendly staff, and the atmosphere is beautiful- always changing with season/holiday- all of this says, they care. Yes, there are some bold colors that come out of this salon, and I am not a fan personally for me- however, the color that I do receive is always right on the money- never had damaged hair. They always ask what I am looking for, and give me the pros and cons for my hair type, and I come out super satisfied. I have been coming to Zen for a few years now. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I'm always offered something to drink and checked on throughout my service. All stylists are professional in their interactions with clients. Leah makes sure everyone is well taken care of. She is a kind and generous business owner. She listens to my requests and works well with my curly hair. My daughter sees Heather and is always treated like a rockstar.. she even gave her a manicure while waiting for me to finish up. I've tried many of the alternatives out there, from old fashioned barber shops to gimmick shops with sports themes to other types of salons. This is the only place I've felt welcomed and cared for rather than just a head of hair and a wallet. Relaxing AND a great cut each time!
