I went ahead and booked my apartment online and showed up on a Friday afternoon at 3 PM. When I first entered the salon I got pretty excited. It had a stylish yet cozy feel. A little counter and sitting area greeted me - I noticed a good amount of seating and of course quite a few little things for sale - shampoos, conditioners, hair products, candles, brushes, etc. It was tastefully done. I popped a squat in the sitting area after checking in and waited for my stylist. It didnt take much time for her to finish with her current client and get to me. I cant remember her name but I do remember thinking our time together was a little awkward. We made small talk once or twice during the hair wash, trim, and blow dry session. It was nice to not have to talk-talk-talk, but we just didnt seem to click until she began straightening my hair. Awkward conversation aside, I can say that she 100% pulled through. She took off the split ends without chopping too much length off of my hair, she then took her time to blow dry and straighten my hair, and then put some glorious product in it that made it look and feel FANTASTIC! I am currently on day 3 of my straight hair and I can testify that it is still straight without me having to take MY straightener to fix it in the mornings. I still say that Kimmie does a fantastic job there and her salon is beautiful, BUT... On December 26th, I went to K Joy and they were closed. I needed to get my nails done THAT day. I had been to this salon about 2 years ago and it was just ok. Very basic nail options. A full set took forever. Only accepted cash from their cash machine that charged a fee and the lady that owned it also owned the froyo place and spent most of the time pushing her food on everyone which also only accepted cash... that always seems shady to me. I saw some newer fantastic reviews and decided to give them another try. I am BLOWN away! The salon is totally different. Tons of absolutely BEAUTIFUL options. It seems as though it has new owners. I was a walk-in with no appointment, yet I was greeted immediately and given a seat to get started even though they were busy. They do accept cards now and no mention of food. Lol. Vi did the most beautiful set of dip nails and at a great price (about $15 less for a full set of dip nails in an ombre style). She put so much extra effort into making sure that my hands and nails were beautiful. From a very thorough trimming of my cuticles (not just relying on the grinder and filing) to massaging my hands after the nails were complete. You get the full manicure treatment in addition to beautiful nails. King was helping and very sweet and friendly. At 48 years old and having had my nails done since I was a teenager, I can honestly say these are my favorite nails ever. I can't stop looking at them. I will definitely be back with no hesitation. Over that time, I have spent between $2,250 and $2,475 on services. Unfortunately, a recent experience has made it clear that continued loyalty holds little value at this business. Due to an unforeseen work emergency, I was unable to make a 5:30 PM appointment. I am fully aware of their cancellation policy, but I had no control over the situation and made an effort to communicate and reschedule. Despite this, I was charged a 35% cancellation fee, which came to $18.25. What made this more frustrating is the fact that the same technician had other availability that day, and the time could have easily been rebooked with another client. Rather than choosing to work with a dependable and long-standing customer, the business chose to enforce a fee without consideration of the context. Ironically, that small fee turned out to be a turning point. I have since switched to sugar waxing, and the improvement in service is undeniable. No more burns from wax that's too hot, no skin trauma from wax that's too cold, and absolutely no redness or irritation. The difference in quality and care speaks for itself. It's also important to note that over the course of three years, I experienced significant turnover among estheticians, making it difficult to maintain consistent quality and rapport. While policies are important, so is discretion -- and in this case, the lack of flexibility cost them far more than the $18 they collected. They may have followed their policy, but in doing so, they made it clear that customer loyalty is not a priority. A small fee was gained, but a loyal client -- and future revenue -- was lost.

(4) Poor professionalism, wait until the customer has left before congregating to talk about them. This is not the place for coarse hair or women of color.
