3 Sons failed to pull the permit for an exterior door replacement despite having it added to the contract. They also installed the door incorrectly. The door jamb was not flush with the drywall by 3/4". According to the manufacturer of the door, Thermatru, this was an incorrect installation. Paul Nutile, the owner of the company, was very unprofessional in all of his communication and refused to fix the poor install. When I took him to small claims court, he cursed at me in the courtroom like a child. read more

Three Sons recently replaced both exterior fiberglass doors and storm doors on the front and rear entrances to my condo unit in Watertown MA. From start to finish, it was a satisfying process. I had previously tried to search doors on my own, but it was so complicated to replace 50 year old doors and frames that I realized it was impossible. A person came to measure and assess the replacement job; he came with catalogs and all the information needed to decide, including suggestions about the best features that I didn't know about from my own searches. (In addition, he was familiar with the requirements of this condo, which made compliance easier.) The rear storm door has exactly what I wanted: the ability to quickly move from glass to screen panels. Also: there are thin venetian blinds within the glass panel on the rear door. Because of the age of the original doors, the installation required so much reconstruction of the frames, which was done with patience and skill over many hours. The interior and exterior of the area were left totally clear of debris. The installers were willing to show me how a few of the features worked before leaving the job. Avoid Three Sons Window and Door! We requested a quote for 13 double hung Andersen windows. Three Sons Window and Door provided a first contract (Released by Jacob Stone on Mar 2, 2023) for 12 (not 13) Andersen 200 series windows for $9,792. We told them we wanted to proceed with the contract for the 13 windows which should have been $10,826. Three Sons Window and Door second contract (Released by Jacob Stone) was for $14,498 (a $4,706 increase over expected). The increase was for an "extra fee" they forgot to add for window installation. Their error number 2. The second contract was accepted, and the contract signed for $14,498. A deposit was accepted on the contract by Three Sons Window and Door for $5,000. They refused to honor the contract saying Three Sons had made another mistake (the third) and it would cost $7,511 more to proceed. I requested they honor the contract we had both had signed. They refused to do the work and finally returned my deposit, over 6 months later, after multiple requests. To me honoring a contract is a fundamental aspect of any business. I strongly do not recommend Three Sons for ANY work. read more

Three Sons gave me a quote for 24 replacement windows, a picture window and a kitchen dual crank window. They did the work in May. The windows themselves look fine and the work was adequate. However, when they removed my old windows which included storm windows, the exterior exposed trim and casing that is rotted from my 1968 house. I had brought this up when the salesman came out and I said I was concerned because my windows were so old that I may need new construction. He said I have no reason to suspect there would be any issue with my windows and replacement windows would be fine. I would fully expect that Three Sons would not want to leave a job this way, but they exited and simply asked for the balance of the job. I told them the exterior looks like trash and their response was look in your contract, we are not responsible for the state of the exterior. In addition to this, they left a pile of trash over my yard full of wood and nails and said they'd pick it up the next day. After 4 days go by and emailing and calling about half a dozen times, someone finally came out after about 6 days. This seems to be the way this company operates. A good company would have immediately alerted me when they removed the windows and told me there was a problem and told me what my options were. I was perfectly willing to pay for additional work. Now it's October and I'm still trying to find a contractor to fix my exterior. See the pictures of the way my exterior looks now. Pretty shocking, isn't it? Also, I asked for them to send a quote for the exterior work. I had to ask 3 times before I sent out a quote for that work. I was extremely disappointed with Three Sons' customer service, and will never use them again as a result. We had a bay window that we needed replaced. They installed the window and said they'd be back the next day to put back on the exterior siding. We didn't hear from them again for 3.5 weeks. In the meantime, the siding was still off the house and the frame of the house was fully exposed to the elements. This is despite us calling them repeatedly, leaving messages, sometimes catching people on the phone and being told we would get a call the next day. They never called us back, until finally we threatened (via email) to find someone else to finish the job. Turns out, the problem was that they initially ordered/installed the wrong size window. Didn't bother to tell us that it was a problem at the time of the install, and seemed to have no interest in fixing it until we threatened to not pay. They then ordered the right-sized window, put a protective sheet over the exposed parts of the exterior, and installed the window when it came in. Credit where it's due, the final result was great. This is the only reason we gave them more than one star. It was just absolute hell getting there. We will never use them again, and encourage others to look elsewhere too. read more

The Three Sons crew showed up on time/early and got right to work. Within the 8 hour day, they replaced 8 windows and an 8 foot sliding door. The job came out great, on time, within budget and they did a nice job cleaning-up. They even came back within 24 hrs to adjust the slider. Contacted 3 Sons on July 11th for a new siding quote (I knew they had partnered with Northshore Windows & Siding, a company I had very good experiences with). The sales person came to our home on July 13th, up to this point this was a great customer experience. Two weeks later and no quote, I've spoken with the person answering the main number 3 times and she is not able to provide the status of my quote and has never returned my calls. We hired Three Sons to replace our first floor and basement sliding doors in our townhouse. The entire project was completed, however there were multiple setbacks along the way. When they first installed the doors, the screen door for the first floor slider was broken. They took it back, however it was another four-week turnaround to get the replacement screen door. While we were waiting for that, we found that the holes for the center dead-bolts on both sliding doors were not drilled properly and the dead bolt could not be locked. The doors could still lock via the main lock but this was frustrating nonetheless. While we were waiting for the replacement screen door, the basement screen door kept falling off the track and it was determined that this screen door was broken as well. On the day that the first replacement screen door arrived, we were told that the crew member would be here at 6:30 AM. The crew member arrived, however did not ring the bell or call us so we missed him and he had to come back later that night. While the first screen door was being replaced, I brought up the broken basement screen door which had to be taken back to the ship and we had to wait another four weeks to get that replaced. The office staff was responsive, however it felt like we had to constantly chase them down to get an update on the replacement doors. Overall, despite this frustration, the job got done, however when you are paying upwards of $6k for replacement doors, you would hope that the installers would give a little more care and effort to the job. I hope that this is just a fluke, as the company came highly recommended to us by multiple neighbors in our complex. I do not plan on re-hiring them for work in my home. read more

I had three sons installed my windows 1.5ys ago. Now I have water leak problem with the window and requested for repair service on Dec1 2020 and today, Feb 4 2021 no one has shown up. They initially said they would come on 23rd of Dec then this sales lady called and said she couldn't make it. So I said why sales person would come for water leaking problem and she said she thought it was unlocking problem after all the photos and description Igave her. So she took photos and left. And then I heard nothing. I called and emailed and texted. Nothing done. I am still waiting with towels under my window and will update here when they finally come and at least look at my place. Very pleased with the service we received from Three Sons. We hired them to replace the glass sliding door to our balcony. They responded quickly to our request for an estimate, and that estimate was substantially lower than what NewPro quoted, even with our choosing Harvey windows We had to wait a while for installation because of COVID-related delays, but it meant that the replacement was done in good weather, which was perfect. The installation was terrific - our installer, Junior, was extremely knowledgable and hard-working, and his assistant CJ was equally hard-working. They cleaned up the workspace beautifully, even vacuuming our rug. We are thrilled with the final product! We plan on hiring Three Sons again to replace our bedroom windows, and hope that Junior will be available to oversee the installation. read more

I was expecting clean looking new basment windows. From the outside it looked clean and nice. The inside looked like a mess, more like a diy project. They filled gaps with foam that bulged out and looked like a mess. From the inside the windows looked horrible. Further they charged me for 4 slider but have me 3 sliders and 1 hopper. I brought it up befor the installer left and was told "this is how we install all basment windows" and that anything extra would cost me more. I explained that we were promised lean looking windows and these were not. He said I would have to reach out to Susan as I probably misunderstood. We are very pleased with the new Harvey windows installed in our sun porch and satisfied with the finish both inside and out. 2 separate roll out windows and a big 3 pane window with 2 side roll outs and a fixed center pane. You have to have some flexibility on the install date, there are a lot of moving pieces going on. The job was $4500 which seems like a lot, but was considerably less than the $12K Anderson quoted. The Harvey windows are high quality. Pleased we selected "new construction" windows as opposed to "replacement" windows because we got to replace the rotting exterior framing with Azek trim boards which won't rot or need paint. New construction costs more, but you get so much more. All said and done this vendor is recommended, and we would use them again. read more

After a quote that was a bit less than a competitor, we set up a date to have about 13 windows and the front door replaced with Harvey products. One window was actually a standard operable window either side of a picture window (counted as one as it was one unit to install) and all but 2 tiny ones would have internal mulions. Part of the house had a 15yo addition and that part was fine, but the rest of our 1951 house had terrible warped wooden windows. All the caulking was dried out and the windows were warped so wind came in all around them. The exterior woodwork was beat too, but we had sanded and painted the inside, and that looked good. Anyway, on the first of 2 days planned, Joe and 3 guys showed up and they worked HARD all day. Everything was installed. Really nice work. The second day they came back to finish the outside metal trim and door surround. Joe and 2 guys, and again, a FULL day. They advised a beveled surround for the windows to prevent buckling in the aluminum in the sun and it was amazing. All the old wood was covered, what a difference in the look of the house! Clean up was great, we sanded and painted the interior trim, as they dont do that, and it does require some work. The interior trim is pried off (and later replaced, carefully) to remove the old windows and allow inserting the new ones. Anyway, no complaints there, very minimal work required. It is SO nice having new windows. Huge difference in curb appeal. Thinking of 3 Sons? Just do it-you wont be sorry. Great investment. read more

A woman called the next day and left me a message saying she would call back on Wednesday to set up an appointment - she never called I waited a few weeks and called AGAIN asking for someone to come and give me an estimate An appointment was set up for 2 days ago. 3 days ago I was called and asked if I would agree to change the appointment until the next day - I said yes. Then, 15 minutes before the agreed upon time I get a call from someone else at the company saying due to personal issues they needed to reschedule. I am extremely pleased with the job that 3 Sons Window & Door did on my father's house in Newton; my 5 star review reflects not just on the quality of workmanship, but the care and consideration shown by the owner (Paul Nutile) to make sure that the job was done to our standards (which, admittedly, are high.) We had three exterior doors installed, as well as a 2 - level back staircase. I live in California, and on one of my trips to visit my father and siblings, Dad told us that he would like to get new doors, and get the back 2-story staircase replaced. I initially had reservations about having the staircase installed by a company that specializes in doors and windows, but after speaking and meeting with Paul, I felt comfortable with having his company do the job. My level of comfort was validated when Paul walked the job with me after completion, and made sure that each and every detail was finished to perfection. His carpenter (Roy) used excellent pressure treated wood, and the bracing made the staircase perfectly secure. Roy later told me that his instructions from Paul were to make sure that the job was not finished until I was completely satisfied - an "old school" way of craftsmanship and customer service that I deeply appreciate! To be honest, I waited a while before writing this review, as sometimes issues arise after a job is finished. It has been over a year since the completion of the job, and the doors are still perfect, as is the staircase. I sincerely give Paul and his company my highest rating - 5 out of 5. The five star ratings you see here are well deserved. We talked to several other companies, but Three Sons blew us away. I have an old two-story house in Newton that needed a lot of work. I wanted all the windows replaced, and other items that I didn't realize they could do. It was one-stop shopping! They took out a through-the-wall window air conditioner and replaced the large open space with a new wall on the inside and matching shingles on the exterior. They suggested several levels of replacement if I didn't want to do it all at once. The price was better than all the rest. They kept in touch with me as the date approached and finished the job early and perfectly. They cleaned up after themselves and were a pleasure to work with. My experience with Three Sons Windows & Door has not been positive. I called Three Sons in October of 2011 because I had had an ice damn on the back side of my house the previous winter and thought it was time for a new roof. Three Sons came out to my house, inspected by roof and provided me with a description of what was needed and an estimate for the work. It was not the cheapest or the most expensive of the estimates I received but they seemed trustworthy and they informed me in writing that "we will guarantee our work for 20 [years]" In 2013 I called Three Sons to inform them that water was coming in through my roof on the front side of my house and was running down my walls. There were large water spots on the ceiling and the window sills were wet. Three Sons came out to look at the roof and determined that the water must be coming in through the siding of the house and not the roof. We had the siding looked at and this was not the case. This year the water problem has been much worse. Three Sons has come out to the house and have realized that the water is clearly coming from the ceiling. However, they have yet to offer any remedy for the poor roof or the damage caused by it. I will happily update this review if Three Sons does eventually make good on their word before I am forced to hire someone else to fix the roof. read more

They replaced a picture window with a double hung window on each side, a small gliding window over my kitchen sink and a double hung window in my bathroom. Junior and Erstwin arrived within the time frame I was given, with a courtesy call ahead of time to say they were on their way. These two gentlemen were wonderful! Very polite and respectful. Paul answered the phone himself when I first called and came by to estimate the job (roofing and gutters) on a holiday, which was a day I requested. He was honet, informative, and very polite. His crew worked for two days and completed a very professional job. The cleanup each day was meticulous, as I am very picky. We had heard good things... sorely disappointed :( We had done our homework and asked around and had heard pretty good things about Three Sons. However, we were thoroughly disappointed. We found their work to be ok, however, their attention to detail was quite alarming. We had a relatively small job of remodeling a couple of rooms and had what we thought were simple requests. We had water damage in a room and as such they had to replace the sheet rock, and molding and while we were at it we decided to an adjoining room so they would be similar. They do communicate via email which is a plus for us as we are often out of phone communications most of the time due to our work. However, we had asked that the molding in the two new rooms be matched (within reason) to what was in the hallway leading to the two rooms. They ended up being quite different. They also managed to resize the windows so our Hunter-Douglas blinds didn't fit. During the whole process we also had them repoint the chimney and the person who did that left out a gallon of 35% hydrochloric acid outside. Quite dangerous particularly with a lot of kids in our neighborhood. I wouldn't recommend them at all for a small job like ours which was around $10,000 as their attention to detail and care for the work done just doesn't match other contractors we have had work on our house. read more

We hired Paul to do a couple small projects in our fixer-upper home. We heard some good things about the company and we thought a trial on smaller jobs would be appropriate. We ended up having Paul's crew do three separate projects in our home. From the flexibility they showed in scheduling, to workmanship to clean-up 3-Sons gets A++ across the board. His guys went above and beyond to make sure a difficult door leading out to an attached garage was done extremely well. Let me say I am not an easy customer to please.
