I was excited to call Zahn Appliance Repair upon seeing their great reviews on Yelp. So highly disappointed in them. $700 to fix my icemaker, $800 estimate to repair a dishwasher. I feel their prices were very high. Upon discussing price with the owner he was very defensive and somewhat aggressive. We ended up purchasing a new dishwasher. My freezer was leaking and i couldn't even open the door. It was completely frozen over....it took me a few weeks to think about getting it fixed. I thought I would have to get a new refrigerator. I called Zhan and Igor came by and tried to defrost the freezer so he could open the door. He was here for at least three hours. He suggested we leave it unplugged overnight and he came in the am. It took him a few hours to defrost it, finally it opened. Then he had to take everything out, including all the shelves, cleaned everything and pulled the refrigerator out of its corner. He cleaned behind the refrigerator, something I've never seen! Then he unclogged the drain to the icemaker and did all kinds of things I didn't know one could do to a refrigerator haha. Highly recommend Zhan Appliance!! I called several appliance repair places and was immediately turned down once they heard my dryer stacked on top of my washer, said they don't work on stackables. I even explained they are two separate units not "attached"....still a hard no. Zhan did not hesitate at all said they would even send someone same day. Laguna Beach, Ca. I needed my Maytag washer repaired, it was not spinning correctly. Zhan answered the phone himself, not a voicemail recording. He diagnosed the problem immediately and gave me a very reasonable quote for the repair. The agitator was corroded and froze to the cam assembly so he had the break the agitator in order to remove it. The new agitator was included in the price! He cleaned up the area and but a machine cleaner in the washer and pointed out the clean washer setting which I had never noticed. He then proceeded to give me a quote on my dishwasher repair which is a Bosch. My former appliance man does not work on Bosch. Oh, he had to order parts for the washer, then he was back here in two days! read more

Zhan came out to replace my mom's old over-the-range microwave with a new one. It was a task my brother thought he could do, but was sorely mistaken when he realized it would take some re-engineering of the back support plate since we were going from a GE to an LG model. My mom went with one contractor but when that one wasn't available, he sent Zhan out. This seemed a bit odd, but my mom quickly did her homework and felt like he was a good fit for the job. (It's also surprising how many people only do repairs - not installations, btw!) I came over while Zhan was mid-install and thought he was quite pleasant. He cleaned up very well after himself, including using my mom's central vac to vacuum up dust and debris after drilling holes for the new support plate. He seemed quiet but did a thorough job. Everything tested and was working beautifully. We both thought he was quite competent in his field. Although he couldn't take the old microwave with him (not expected), he offered to move it to the garage until we could arrange a special trash pick up for it. Honest work still exists!! I contacted a few companies via Yelp after my dryer stopped heating. One company offered a free diagnostic and quickly told that the thermostat needed to be replaced, quoting $247. When I asked how he determined that, simply said it was based on experience -- no real inspection was done. I then reached out to Zhan for a proper diagnosis. He actually disassembled the unit, found that only the fuse needed replacement, and completed the repair for $185 in total. What I learned from this experience is that companies offering free diagnostics may not take the time to properly identify the issue. In contrast, Zhan was thorough, transparent, and honest. He even took extra effort to reuse the original vent hose, which wasn't in the best condition -- it would have been easier for him to just sell me a new one, but he didn't. I truly hope Zhan continues to get plenty of local business. He deserves it for the solid and sincere work he does. read more
