I waited 1hr.45min. for delivery only to find out they dropped my food on the porch and left. No door bell or phone call. When I called to ask where my food was the girl lied. She told me it was on the way. The food was cold and terrible. Used to be a nice place to eat,now unfortunately not so much. Yum yum! As said in another review, this is the best Chinese spot in Reading. Due to COVID, no one can enter their restaurant. They have the 2nd set of doors that lead into their dining area blocked off. Also, you must order online or call in your order. We normally get the Honey Chicken because it is so crispy! Nice switch up from the Sesame Chicken. Today I ordered the Honey Chicken Lunch Combo ($7.95), Teriyaki Chicken Lunch Combo ($7.95) & the Pepper Steak Lunch Combo ($7.95). All lunch combos come with an egg roll & pork fried rice. I don't like pork fried rice so I asked for white rice. It was a breeze to order online and choose everything. The only option for payment is to pay in-store, which was fine by me. The portion sizes for the lunch combo are great! I was able to sample all 3 items and still have a lot left over. The Egg Rolls are always nice and crispy and flavorful. And huge! Honey Chicken: Delicious! Definitely a must-try. Sometimes they do make it too sweet and other times overdone but if you check your food before you leave you can make sure it's done just right. Love that it has so much flavor with out needing any sauce. & love the crispy skin. Teriyaki Chicken: Nice surprise! I will order again. Reminds me of bourbon chicken a little. Loved the veggies that come with it and the flavor of the chicken wasn't too much. The chicken was juicy too, not over cooked. Pepper Steak: first time trying this dish but won't be the last! This was fantastic. The flavor was similar to a beef and broccoli but had other veggies to accompany it. I will definitely order again. Overall satisfied with all the dishes I have tried from here. Only thing I'd recommend is to NOT get the Shrimp and Broccoli. The shrimp are very small and not much sauce. Also comes with a white sauce, which I'm not used to (normally has a brown sauce.) What happened to this establishment? I went for take out. Young man came right over and said not ready yet but I could pay. No big deal. I sat RIGHT NEXT TO the register. I never moved. I waited twenty five minutes and someone who works there asked about me, and she came rushing up and handed me my food which was behind her. I told her that had been sitting for twenty five minutes and the food was there the whole time?? She insisted I was wrong (who puts the orders there? Ghosts?!??) I kept saying no one came from the kitchen and she literally hurried me out. Food was no good. A small shrimp and broccoli had five small shrimp and really hard broccoli, and I love firm broccoli. This was close to raw. My shrimp were pithy. My veggie rolls had a strange taste. My husbands spring rolls were fried in oil that wasn't hot enough. I had been in a year or two and I'm not going back. It's too expensive to eat out to get crappy service and a gross meal. read more

Worst Chinese food I ever had! Sushi roll was fishy. I ordered the beef a scallops and there was 4-5 scallops, even those tasted fishy. Hot and sour soup was terrible. Threw away 3/4 of the whole meal. Called and told management and they refunded 15 dollars of a 50 dollar meal that I threw away. We ordered takeout for two. Five different sushi rolls, orange beef and mu shu vegetables. The sushi was bland and way too sweet. Instead of orange beef we found orange chicken. It looked like a brown mass with some inedible pieces of skin thrown in. Not very tasty. No vegetable to be seen, apart from a few pieces of broccoli. We discarded the rice; low quality. The mu shu vegetables seemed also mostly brown, old and tired, and again, no (fresh) vegetables in sight. That is unacceptable. Disappointing; we will not return. read more

I first ordered/fell in love with this place a few yrs ago while living in sinking spring. Since moving into the city I hadn't gotten food from there until today. Well let's say the quality has fallen off something serious!! The rice lacked flavor and was slightly mushy. The General Tso was not extra spicy like I asked nor was it crispy. But they did use real chicken. Oh and the Eggroll..... lacked flavor, was semi rubbery and wasn't crisp at all. When I used to live in Wyomissing, Zhuang's Garden was, without a doubt, my go-to sushi joint. Most of my friends opted for the more "trendy" spots in town, but there was just something about Zhuang's and its muted, humdrum outward appearance on Penn Avenue that gave it a certain quaint charm. Once inside, you'll be greeted with a smiling, Asian woman and a large, eccentric fountain. This fountain replaces a giant fish tank (although the fish still remain in the pool of the fountain). Sushi-wise, this place has your standard selection of sashimi and nigiri, as well as a roster of a whopping THIRTY special rolls. In addition to the raw offerings, there is a full Chinese, Japanese, and Thai menu. Basically, if you have a hankering for Asian food, this is your one-stop shop. Service can be spotty at times, but the staff is friendly and polite. And of course, the real selling point of this place is the quality of food. The atmosphere inside is much more welcoming than the outside looks. The placed used to be called "The Hunan Inn" then it changed to the "Panda Garden" and now it's "Zhuang's". All three places served great food. There was one particular menu item I used to get here when the place was called The Hunan Inn/The Panda Garden. The menu item was called Szechuan vegetable Garden. Now the only Chinese restaurant in Berks County that sells this rare and tasty dish is "The Great Wall" in West Reading. read more

It's delicious and reasonably healthy, too. Sesame Chicken: 5 stars. Not greasy and the sauce was different than other renditions I've had elsewhere. I liked the sauce which was flavorful and not of the typical gloppy kind. Cold Sesame Noodles: 2 stars. Disappointing. The sauce was weak and not plentiful enough for the amount of noodles. Egg Rolls: 4 stars. Different than what I'm used to, but that turned out to be a good thing as they were very good and not overfried. Hot and Sour Soup: 3 stars. Not the best I've had but better than most. Loaded with celery and tofu - a big plus. Broth actually was both hot and sour. Zhuang's has become my go-to Chinese takeout choice. The crispy honey chicken is really my favorite here. I really like the crunchiness and taste of their egg rolls. Teriyaki chicken is good here too but they throw in a bit more onion than I'd need. I had one of their Thai dishes before and it was just okay. In general, my girlfriend really likes sushi but I'm not that crazy about it. So Zhuang's is a perfect solution for us... Chinese for me and sushi for her. Like others have mentioned, the table service is a bit slow but take-out orders are always ready quickly. The Yelp offer is always redeemed with ease. The food is super good but the bubble tea I had there about 4 times the boba balls were hard. They were not enjoyable. The last rime I had one I called to see if they can make a new order of tea and all I got was confusing and "my manager is not here". This was my family's first time trying this restaurant and let's just say it will be our last. My shrimp was so soft and mushy it was terribly unappetizing and the broccoli was obviously rotten. It had tons of yellow and brown all over it (pictured) and had a chemically taste. The sauce was clear so that is not the cause of the brownness on the broccoli. I order a spicy shrimp lo mien and it was plain and dry and not spicy! I also order a shrimp and broccoli but it had no broth in it and only 2 shrimps but a lot of broccoli that was hard. The only decent thing was the shrimp rolls. I will never order from here again if I come back to Reading. This is a disgrace, this place should be shut down. Let me state up front that this is my favorite place to eat sushi, bar none. Now, having said that, a few things to acknowledge. The exterior of the building is something between unremarkable and offputting, but don't judge a book by its cover, because the interior is well-kept and quite pretty. Also, I can't really review anything other than the all-you-can-eat sushi, but I couldn't imagine coming here and not eating their sushi. It is absolutely awesome - fresh, amazing mixing of flavors and textures, excellent variety, and generous helpings of the seafood ingredients relative to rice and other fillers. Almost as importantly, at less than $20 a head (plus a yelp discount, for the time being) it's a steal! I'm baffled by the positive reviews here. Berks county continues to confuse me with their restaurant selections. So far it seems to be an emphasis on quality over quantity and this place is no exception. Now, my husband made me promise I'd review all sides of this place since our orders came from two different menus; Thai and Chinese. First the good: Chinese. He had the sesame chicken. It is really good. The sauce is thick and flavorful; one of the best I've had. The portion size is good. Now the bad: Thai While the won-ton soup isn't considered Thai, I'm including it here because it was part of my order. How can you mess up won-ton soup? It looked like it was swimming in pee after you take your vitamins. There was nothing to this broth. Terrible. Next I had the chicken and pineapple fried rice. I won't say too much bad about that because it was pretty decent, but it could use a little more seasoning. And the worst for last; pad thai. Oh my goodness this had to be one of the worst things I've ever eaten. The noodles were pink, but not from sauce. It actually looks like they just bought pink noodles. It was the most flavorless pad thai dish I've ever had. If you blindfolded me and asked me what I was eating I would never have been able to tell you. It was really just plain rice noodles with a little bit of bean sprouts. Period. That's it. They should stop pretending that they have Thai and just focus on chinese. Oh, and the place is filthy.
