This racoon was not shy!

This place is gorgeous!! The campground is kept very clean and well maintained. Our dogs had a blast! We enjoyed sitting very still by the campfire and watch the wildlife do their own thing! Some sites had better views of the lake than others, but it is an easy walk to get some of the most beautiful views! One great thing is the camp sites are not on top of each other. We plan to come back again!!

If you're looking for an authentic off the grid campground, either rustic or structured, Zilpo is what you're looking for. Starting off with the only negative comment= the incredibly long drive from the entrance of Daniel Boone to the campground. This is a good 20-30 minute drive, making it extremely unpleasant if you happen to forget something and need a bigger retail type store. However! There is a small store near the campground with things like ice, wood, chips, drinks, bait, swim diapers, candy. The selection is extremely limited but available. Wood for a bundle is $7, YIKES! Large bag of ice is $5. We did our research and stayed in loop H. We loved campsite 19 with access to the lake. Not easy access, but access nonetheless. 19 is considered a double for 6 people and 4 cars max. We enjoyed our two night stay so much, we ended up staying an extra night and moving to site H22 with even better lake access. This is bear country but it's not likely that you'll meet a bear. However, the campground does a good job of educating you on where to keep food, etc.. there's a camp host in each loop, A-H. The lake is absolutely beautiful but some boats do stay out until 2-3am, making it unpleasant if you're trying to sleep. What do you expect camping on a lake, though?! We plan on going back in the future!!!

If you're looking for a place to literally get away from the city, this is your place. It's 10 miles into the Daniel Boone National Forest and even further from the interstate. There is a store on site, with a few basic necessities. We were there the weekend prior to Labor Day weekday, and the store was pretty much depleted and things were close to the expiration. Moral to the story, is come prepared. Two people recommended this place to us when we first got our camper... specifically the H loop. During the summer, every time that we looked into staying here, they were booked up. Finally we scored Friday-Sunday. I wasn't as impressed as my husband was. We drove around the G loop and it seemed similar to the H loop... I'm not sure what the H loop hype is about. The site driveway was very narrow, but paved. The surrounding area of the sites were gravel though. The fire pit was tall, which was good for my fur babies. The water spicket was across the street and shared amongst two sites. That was the first time that we'd been to a site without water and didn't know that before we got there. Luckily, the shower house was pretty close. One strange shower house observation was that there were two shower houses pretty close together. Why they weren't spread out, I haven't a clue. While I'm on the shower house rant... there were three showers in the women's room. One barely dripped, the other was freezing and the best one was a bit more than a mist. You could see Cave Run Lake from a few of the sites, but none appeared to be lake accessible. The store is near the dock and beach area. That area was gorgeous, but I just wasn't impressed with the actual camp sites or the location of the camp ground. There was a family music event on Saturday, at the bleacher area... other than the lake and the occasional event, there's not much to do. Bring your own entertainment. Oh, and leave the alcohol at home, it's not permitted.

Absolutely love Zilpo. Private beach perfect for dogs .

RV sites Camp grounds…read moreCabins The restaurant opens according to the seasons, we visited late April (had the entire area to ourselves) restaurant opens only weekends. Trails around Lago and are not marked but clearly visible. They are very easy trails. Kayaks are available. Lifejackets are available. Propane grills were available on the cabin porches. Just make sure when you check before you get there that you have a full propane tank. Firewood is for sale or you can buy it at the nearby groceries or gas stations on your way in. Speaking of groceries and there's an IGA and Save A Lot within 20 minutes, gas stations, liquor, stores, Family Dollar and there's a downtown Berryville with shops. Farmers markets are seasonal. Check-in is super simple. They will email you a code to get into the door. You don't have to stop by and or check in with the office. We never met the owners. We met personnel on the campground. There's also docks that you can go sit at, gazebo, picnic tables. The actual cabin had towels, hand soap in the bathroom, dish soap, basic pots and pan utensils knives but if you want anything special, I highly recommend you packing it. Definitely want your seasonings food. There's a microwave. There's a coffee pot that uses filters for the 12 cup coffee maker. WiFi Cable tv Fire pit Two chairs on the porch great views There's plenty of sleep space with blankets sheets pillows, comfy couches small shower. We went to Wild Fork Stables to horse back riding. 30 mins away. At least 45 mins from Natural Bridges. There's a grocery gift shop 10 mins from Lago Bear Creek

My husband and I planned a fun weekend camping trip as our last one of the year, and after some…read morerecs from friends, decided to book sites at Lago Linda Hideaway. The booking process was decently easy; however, we were disappointed to see that it cost an additional $27 to choose your site, which felt steep and unnecessary. We forewent the cost and selected the option to have staff choose our site. We arrived around 8:30PM due to some hiccups on our travels. The office was still open and the place was busy. My husband went and checked us in. Since we hadn't selected a site, nor had they selected one for us, they gave us our choice of the 3 remaining sites. We drove around a few times and eventually landed on Piney Ridge #2. It was tricky to maneuver our truck/tent into the spot, but we managed. The woman who checked us in (one of the owners, I believe), said she didn't know that there was an extra charge to select your site or an option not to... seems like good info for them to know... Each site is supposed to come with it's own water and electric hookups. Sadly that wasn't the case for us. We had to call the front and ask to borrow 40ft of extension cords in order to use the electric AND had to ask the neighbor to unplug from one of the two outlets at HIS site. We also had to go into his camp or the other neighbor's whenever we wanted water. It wasn't the end of the world; just wasn't what we paid for. The campground is exttremely quiet after quiet hours (11PM), during the night, and in the AM. Super peaceful. It was also quiet during the day. The only time it was crazy was from 8-11PM when folks in their RVs were blasting music and partying. There are two bathrooms with showers and hot water. Be warned that one of them wasn't heated and I only got 2 min of hot water for my shower. They also aren't very clean or updated, but they certainly did the trick. They are also a HIKE from several of the sites, including ours, so be ready to go to the bathroom in the woods at night. The property itself is pretty and the skies were SO clear I think I saw more stars in one night than I have seen in years, cumulatively. The lake was the highlight. My husband and I spent an evening sitting on the dock talking and it was silent and peaceful and beautiful. There are several shared facilities on the property-- like a heated lounge area with a kitchen and a large covered deck and a communal dish washing station (which we used twice). Overall we had a REALLY good weekend and would stay here again. We like a mix of roughin' it and creature comforts when camping and that is just what Lago Linda delivered. I have a feeling we will stay here again!

I think I was a little afraid that the campground would be similar to Miguel's -- lots of party-time people and little privacy. However, our small group was pleasantly surprised that many of the sites had their own sense of "place." While few of the sites are completely secluded, they at least have plenty of trees around them to give you a tiny bit of privacy. We got a double-pad site since we had two tents, and this was more than enough room. The pads are very generously sized, so if you have one of those ginormous 8-person tents that are bigger than a Manhattan studio apartment, you should have no issue setting it up. Each site comes with a picnic table (ours had 2 but not sure if that was because it was a double?) and a fire pit. You can purchase wood and ice at the campsite host. There are also some short but fun trails that lead off from Koomer Ridge, and I think at least one connects to the Rough Trail, which is a very long trail going through the Gorge that also lives up to its name. The only downside is you can hear the traffic from the road fairly easy, but giving how close the campground is to the main road, this isn't really surprising. I just figure it's part of the territory with car camping as opposed to backpacking.

Wonderful, spacious sites and nice clean facilities - what more do you really need? The campground is conveniently located near the highway and for short drives to the surrounding area for hiking, sightseeing and whatnot. There is access to at least one cliff trail at several points around the campground, and you're never too far from a pit toilet. But if those aren't your idea of a nice place to do your business, the actual restroom and shower facilities are amazingly clean. My only complaint is that the frogs don't know what "quiet time" means.

Upon our arrival, we checked in with no issues, set up our tent, and then tried to get into the shower house to use the bathroom and shower off before the temperatures dropped for the evening. I was told by the woman manning the front desk that the shower code was in my email. Very foolishly, I trusted her. We were unable to access the showers or the bathrooms within the shower building- the bathrooms next to the shower building were boarded shut for the winter. We searched my email high and low, and there was no shower code- not in my inbox, not in my spam, not in any folders. After conferring, we decided to call the after-hours number. No one answered, so we left a message and headed to Miguel's Pizza for dinner. An hour passed, and we hadn't heard anything, so we called again- no response. We were never contacted about our message, and we checked out the next morning with no further contact regarding that issue. But before we left- we headed over to fill up our water bladder and water bottles before hitting the trail for a long hike. We were in the middle of doing so, when a woman in a white car came over and (very passive aggressively) asked us if we were checking in to that site. We responded that we were just filling up on water and would be leaving shortly. She harrumphed and drove off, but it was obvious that she wasn't pleased with us doing so. We finished filling up and left, agreeing to never stay there again. I'm afraid that Natural Bridge Campground has just permanently lost themselves two customers.

We were very disappointed with our recent stay at 4 Guys. We found the park to be poorly managed and the staff rude and unwilling to follow their own policies. We called before booking and asked about the procedures regarding moving from one site to another. We were told that since checkout is at 11, we shouldn't have a problem, and when we asked for a late checkout to be sure they told us they would be unable to grant one since someone would be coming into our site the next day. When we checked in I again reminded the staff person that we would be moving sites, and asked if the person coming into our site had paid a lock fee. She told me they had, and that we shouldn't have a problem moving at 11 on our day of switching sites. When we went to move sites, we waited for a half an hour past checkout to see if the person in our next site would leave, before finally checking with the office, at which point we were informed that they had given the person in the new site permission to stay until 12:30. They did not communicate with us about this, so we had already pulled our hookups and slides, leaving us in limbo. In talking with the staff the first staff person at checkin had actually lied- the person coming into our original site did not in fact pay a lock fee. We suggested that the solution would be to simply move them into the site we were supposed to occupy but they said they do not enforce the lock fees and that no one pays them, but that they didn't want to inconvenience the person by asking them to move. Furthermore they said that while it says checkout is at 11, it's really at 1, since they don't enforce people leaving their sites until then. They used this repeatedly as a justification for why we shouldn't be upset about having to wait for the person leaving our site to be back. To be clear, we were mostly upset with their poor attitude and lack of communication- simply calling us and letting us know would have resulted in a much more comfortable situation for two hours. That said, in over 5 years of RV travel (3 of that fulltime) we have never encountered an RV park that admitted that their site lock fees are irrelevant and that checkout can be between 11 and 1, not 11 as their paperwork's states. They finally did call the folks coming into our site, but instead of simply informing them that they had to move, they just asked if they'd be willing. The person was hesitant and said she'd have to call back, so we all waited awkwardly in the office. One of the office ladies agreed this was her fault, but then said my "negative energy" was preventing her from effecting a solution. I was understandably upset about the situation (which was derailing our plans for the day and making the extra night we had paid for irrelevant) and made that clear, but was also respectful while being insistent that something could be done, they were just refusing to do it. They continued to complain that the new owners switched over to campspot and that they hated the new system. Appropriate customer service would have been to simply apologize and follow their own procedures, which state that they can move someone if they done pay a lock fee. They could have offered us a discount, a free coke, something, not complaining about their boss and their computer system. We said that if they were unable to find a solution they could just refund us and we would leave, and they saidwe would still be out the $10 reservation fee. I told them this would result in a negative review, and they replied "we don't care, we have hundreds of positive reviews so yours won't matter". We have been repeat customers here but will never again stay- and I strongly urge other RV owners to look at other options that care more about your business and satisfaction than the "negative energy" that gets created when they make a mistake they won't fix.
