Porch at Moss Rock. Great views
    Justin W.

Red River Gorgeous is our favorite cabin company in the Gorge. We have been staying in their cabins for 7 years and should have posted something sooner. We have stayed at Wildfire, Firefly, Backcountry, and MossRock. We go to get away and enjoy the outdoors. Without satellite tv it forces you to relax and have meaningful conversations. We enjoy the off the grid cabins which do not have electric and toilets instead they have an outhouse. MossRock is our new favorite. This place is a short hike up a path that can take your breath away. From the hike and the views. We have been there with large groups of people and just the two of us. They have a lot of room on the porch. One of the trips we had so many people that our brother slept with his family on the porch in a tent that they brought. It is off the grid so no electric and no toilet. The outhouse does have a large window that provides an excellent view. They do have a propane stove and heater (winter is our favorite time to go) Water is provided but we always bring our own as well. We do use the water from the pumps to fill up the shower bucket. Literally a bucket that is on a pulley system that you can shower in the tub. In the winter we will heat up the water on the stove which takes some time but is worth it. It is very secluded and close to many hiking trails. Martins fork is down the hill. Most people will go to Greys Arch but our favorite is Daniel Boone Hut for a short hike and Rough Trail for a longer hike. We are not huge climbers but was told that this is the closest cabin to Left Flank and Military wall which are suppose to be one of the best places to climb in the Gorge. Firefly is smaller version of MossRock and do not need to hike to it. They don't have a tub like MossRock. The porch is cozy but spent a lot if time on it because of the view it provides. We have only stayed in the winter and fall (again our favorite time to go to the Gorge) but always kept warm from the propane heater on the wall. We bring headlamps and lanterns that provide us light for a game of monopoly or cards that are not provided but bring with us. Wildfire is a great place if you want electric and a toilet. It has a beautiful window that faces the creek. Our first stay we thought the propane heater was not working but it was user error. My wife kept turning off the water so did not allow time to heat the water since it is on demand and does not have a tank. They do have a beautiful covered porch with a nice swing. We have used this area to grill when it was raining.

We stayed in The Sylvan Float tree house, and our neighbors were also nice enough to let us explore their space in The Observatory.

BEWARE! In my…read moreopinion, the property managers are trying to take advantage of us. We moved an old weber charcoal grill from the yard to the porch so we could grill while it was raining. Now they are claiming we dug the grill out of the yard and that the grill is broken (complete b.s.) and that we are going to be charged $150 to replace a leg on it. An absolute money-grab, in my opinion. We left that grill exactly as we found it. EDIT: Here are two Instagram posts that clearly show the exact grill and cabin in question from February 2017 (Over five months prior to our visit). As you can plainly see, the grill is out of the ground! https://www.instagram.com/p/BQ8KQNMAIpk/?taken-at=378655077 https://www.instagram.com/p/BQ8J9X7A6o9/?taken-at=378655077 Also, the hot tub on the back deck shorted out (real safe) after the first night. We informed management and they seemingly made no effort to have it repaired for the remainder of our stay. The main road on the property has also collapsed on the side of a steep hill. It made me nervous about driving up the hill to our cabin. EDIT: You can see the sketchy, crumbling road in Google Maps, here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cabins+of+Birch+Hollow/@37.8062502,-83.7497773,127m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x8843780ee189657f:0xab8ce7380a1f866f!8m2!3d37.805754!4d-83.749193 Zoom in on the Northern portion of the road that rings the property. The aerial view doesn't quite do it justice. An entire section of the road collapsed down the hill. Good luck to you if there are any issues that come up during your stay... I'd never consider renting from them again in my life.

The furniture was like from a dorm room, lumpy futon and an old sofa with no legs in the main area. Oh, and maid service is diy!!! You actually have to strip the beds and start laundry before you leave, empty all trash, clean the kitchen and fridge. All this for 328.00 per night. Will be staying elsewhere next time.

Why 5 stars? Because I felt right at home…read more --- --- --- I like staying at bed and breakfasts more because it's a shakeup from the standard and boring hotel. I actually don't even ever take advantage of the breakfast, because I usually have a spot picked out ahead of time on Yelp. I appreciated the owner of Swann's Nest because he waited up for me, through my flight delay, and impromptu dinner in Cincinnati. Then, he put up with an idiot from the south who has absolutely no idea how to drive in the snow. I ended up driving into the garden because it all just looked like a pile of white to me. My room was very nice, and the heater in the bathroom was incredibly clutch. I think I would have been happy just sitting in the hot shower for two days with how disgusting it was outside. I was the only person staying here, and the first since some pipes had burst in the basement. I really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend it... especially for people coming into town for Keeneland.

We had just started the bourbon tour and were amazed at how few quality places there are to select from in Lexington. We think it would be easier to find a choice of horse lodging than people! We wanted to be in a quiet location and this place scored 10/10. Our king bed was comfortable and the suggestion of dinner places were spot on. Midway is a wonderful small village where the railroad goes right down the middle of the street! The B & B has relaxed feel to it and many extras are included in the price with a self service style that doesn't involve formality. Breakfast is a simple affair, and so much better than the overdose of sugar enthused french toast that some places call breakfast. My only suggestion might be that the bread and English muffin selection whilst large has few non mass market choices. I would hope there are some good local bakers in Lexington? Jason an implant and horse lover from the frozen north of the US, was a delight to chat with, as he had opinions and was happy to express them, which we found very refreshing. We also agreed with his observations and thus a meeting of minds was accomplished. Go visit and listen to their advice, and don't taste too much bourbon and drive!

The cabin was clean and had lots of things we didn't expect (plenty of cooking utensils, dinnerware, dehumidifier, A/C, etc). The water pressure and hot water were excellent. There's a firepit close to the cabins. Unfortunately, we're city folk and weren't able to get the fire going. Maybe we should have YouTubed it! But it was nice that they had a storage tub full of chairs and a picnic bench. The entrance to the property can be easy to miss because it is at a steep grade, but Wendy and Craig emailed us very specific directions that we printed out and had no problems. Everything was great about our stay. Except for that wasp that wouldn't leave. We also booked a climbing tour through RRO. Dan was our guide and did an awesome job. Highly recommended if you are into climbing but don't have all the gear and/or experience to lead and set.
