This is my routine rainy, cold day: go to Santouka for ramen, walk down the street after, go to Zinneken's for a waffle. It's honestly the ideal rainy day. The liege waffle is my favorite. It's warm and soft and chewy - so delicious. The bananas with caramel and whipped cream is my favorite topping combo. I'm not a huge fan of the crunchy waffle but to each their own. The restaurant itself is pretty small so it can be tough to get a table when it's busy. Especially when students are back at Harvard. And i think the waffles are kinda pricey. The menu says $4.70 for the waffle but the toppings will set you back ~$8. However, delicious waffles, cute cafe, good tea! read more

Yummy and very sweet waffles for a fair price. Got the Nutella and banana - very generous with the nut fella spread. Not too busy - even on a Sunday. The inside can get a little stuffy as there aren't too many tables to dine in. Would benefit from more seating perhaps outdoors read more

The moment you walk into the store, you'll be greeted by the yummy smells of chocolate and freshly baked waffles. Their small menu features two types of waffles with a variety of options for toppings. We got the Dame Blanche + strawberries on it... it was very delightful! Not too sweet, warm fluffy waffles, and fresh cream and strawberries. I'd order another one if I wasn't saving room for dinner. There was also a self-serve water dispenser available. The shop is small but very quaint. The food options are delicious and the prices to reflect that. I did wish the staff was a bit nicer and friendlier, but the waffles speak for itself. read more

Watch out! If you are anywhere near Zinneken's, then you will probably find it hard to not stop by, because their bakes smell so tasty! In terms of Covid-19 measures, I felt very safe. The staff felt comfortable asking their customers to wear their masks or offer them new ones to put on. Food: 5/5 The waffle was really yummy, and I appreciated that it was not sickly sweet. The chocolate was just right, and the strawberries helped to cut the sweetness of the chocolately waffle. The strawberries tasted fresh too, which definitely added to the flavor! Service: 5/5 The waffle and almond tea were both served within 10 minutes of ordering! The staff are also really friendly and welcoming. TL;DR I will definitely be coming back to this spot! read more

One of my best friend's was craving Belgian waffles before her flight this weekend, so we ventured to Cambridge. Honestly, the waffles are pretty good, but not the greatest waffles I have ever had in my life. This is a one time experience. I was relatively happy with my choice, but the price was a bit surprising. It was able $10 for one waffle that was essentially just covered in berries. The texture was not light and fluffy, the berries were not the freshest, and the presentation needs a little work. There is cute decor inside and the staff members are relatively friendly. read more

I L-O-V-E waffles in comparison to pancakes. Especially when warm toppings are involved. A friend of mine suggested here after we had ramen at Santouka because I was feeling for something sweet. It was my first time. We got a crunchy waffle and a soft waffle, personally I love crunchy waffles but the soft one was pretty good too- this place makes the best soft waffle I've had thus far coming from a crunchy person. We got strawberry and nutella on the crunchy and banana, caramel and whipped cream on the the soft waffle. I really enjoyed both I could decide which one I wanted to be the last taste in my mouth. I didn't realise EACH topping was an additional $1. I thought you picked either waffle for $4.70 then any combo topping. I think they should state the additional topping cost at the top of the menu instead of at the bottom since I didn't notice that off the bat. Their topping combo list is very helpful though with pairing each one to another. I'll be back again! Just what I needed on a cold rainy night. read more

Extremely tasty waffle house in Harvard Square. Zinneken's is the only waffle house in Greater Boston, to my knowledge. They serve up a "Liege" style of waffle. It's super dense, rich, and sweet. Apparently this type of waffle is from Belgium and it's quite delicious. My favorite, however, is their Brussels / Belgian waffle. It's the classic waffle you think of, square, rigid edges, and super crispy. Unfortunately, since COVID started, Zinneken's stopped serving their crispy and light Brussels waffle. read more

As the other reviews have mentioned, you are lured into the store by the delicious aroma. It is an amazingly cozy Belgian waffle shop with equally amazing food to delight the taste buds. To be honest, the waffles here are better than the waffles I had in Belgian :) Food I've tried: - Every time I return, the quality is consistent. The waffles are the perfect balance of crunchy and softness. You can customize the toppings to get the desired sweetness and textures. Atmosphere: - Very cozy, small store. I love coming here with friends to catch up. - There is a self serve water station. Service: - Staff are friendly, food comes out pretty fast. Overall: - Amazing dessert shop in Harvard Square that I absolutely love. It is a must stop location, and you will inevitably be drawn in by the smell. - Objectively, it is on the higher price side but I 100% think it is worth it, both in flavor and the chance Zinneken's gives me to catch up with my friends when I hang out here. read more

Listen y'all I do NOT play when it comes to sweet and this spot matched my energy! These pictures don't do any justice to how amazing these Liege waffles were! Both so thick sweet and chewy, it was honestly perfection!! Their Gourmand waffle comes with a liege waffle- which is a waffle dough made with caramelized Belgian Pearl Suagr- topped with fresh bananas, silky caramel sauce and heaping mountain of smooth whipped cream! To put things into perspective: I finished it in 4 minutes, did I breath? Probably not. Did I enjoy it? HELL YES! We also had their Fruit Delight waffle. A Liege waffle topped with strawberry, banana and Belgian chocolate; definitely for the chocolate lovers and the fruits added that freshness to cut the sweetness! This is my fourth time coming here and it was delicious every time!! Our waffles came out quickly and got both different types of waffles (belgium and brussels). The scoop of ice cream is kind of pricey, but it is so worth. The fruits were fresh and the chocolate/nutella was so rich. read more

Ridiculously amazing Belgium style waffles in the heart of Harvard square! They weren't too sweet and didn't get soggy at all!! we ordered the Berries Insanity Waffle & Strawberry Glamour Waffle and they tasted so fresh and added bonus that they were super insta- worthy! There are pre-customized waffles that you can select or you can opt to create your own with the base waffle and added toppings. I love how the menus have photos of each of the ingredients and there is such a wide variety, whether you're a fruit person, chocolate person, or just like it plain! There are so many different combos to satisfy any palette and you can even add on a scoop of ice cream fro an additional $2. My berry waffle ended up costing around $9, and although that is slightly steep in price for dessert, the portion sizes are massive and the waffles themselves are very fresh. I spent a bit of time in Brussels and this place really reminded me of the street waffles I used to indulge in. They have indoor seating and you can just smell the waffle aroma wafting all throughout the store! I also see a lot of people taking this to go and enjoying it outside the nearby park on a nice day! Absolutely in love with the interior - it feels like a European bistro and there are beautiful bar seating options or table options that make for the perfect location for a photo opt. Overall, think this is a great place to splurge on dessert and makes you feel like you're enjoying your afternoon in Europe!! Will be back. read more

I've never found 'Brusselse wafels' in the States and am so glad we bumped into this place! I'm Belgian and can confidently say that the Brussels waffle is the real deal. Freshly baked; crunchy on the outside and perfectly light and airy inside. The semi-sweet chocolate sauce was also delicious; not too sweet and it tasted like real chocolate (not artificial like most chocolate sauces). This waffle is perfect if you prefer not to feel stuffed (Liège waffles are a lot sweeter and made with a thicker batter). The place is cosy and an excellent place to recharge/relax when exploring Cambridge. Can't wait to try a Liège waffle next time! read more

A fairly small but cozy spot for waffles, Zinneken was one of the highlights of my trip to Boston. Didn't get to try many dessert/sweets locations but this would be the one I recommend without a doubt. I ordered the Oreo Freakin' Party on a Liege waffle. Wow it was probably the best waffle I've ever had. I loved how light and chewy it was. It was so delicious with the whip cream and Oreo bits. It pretty much melted in my mouth and I gobbled it down fast. Perfect set of ingredients for a wonderful time. Had a vanilla latte as well and that was really well made too. I could have easily ordered another dish and kept going. The waffles at Zinneken was that good. Stop on by for an awesome experience. read more

This was the perfect afternoon treat. Being honest, I thought I was ordering online from the closer location in Lynnfield and realized once I got the confirmation email that it was the Cambridge location - oops. The waffles were apparently ready in under 10 minutes so if you're nearby that is super fast service. I was a little worried having to travel into Cambridge knowing they were already done before I even got on the highway so I guess don't be like me and pay attention when ordering! Google maps had a hard time finding this for some reason. For reference, it's almost next door to the Kung Fu Tea location. Mine tried to lead us off onto a side street but we figured it out. The location is so cool with all of the Tin Tin decorations. I mentioned loving the decor but there was no response back. I also tried to ask about iced coffees instead of hot but no one answered then either. Not sure if they heard me, hopefully not as that's not great if they did hear and just didn't respond back. The coffee selection looks great so if they do offer iced I'd like to check it out in the future. For waffles, we went with the basic Liege waffle. It came with whipped cream. You can get a lot of add-ons but they were a little pricey. I added maple syrup at home. I really like the thicker consistency of the Liege which you don't see nearly as much here as you do the regular Belgian waffle. Then, we decided to be a bit decadent and got the Dame Blanche and added a banana on. Woah, amazing flavor. It was so rich and delicious. Yum! Price-wise, they were a little bit more than you'd normally pay for waffles but keep in mind they are a different thick consistency (which is more filling than normal waffles) and you could tell they took their time with the flavors and ingredients. I can't wait to check out the one that's actually near my house as I'd love another one of those Dame Blanche waffles! read more

Cute, high quality, snug place for a reasonable price! I got the liege waffle with strawberry and chocolate sauce ( topping is named strawberry glamour) and I loved it! Was a little over 7 dollars. Soft gooey waffle that's freshly made and plated beautifully topped with refreshing strawberries, sweet chocolate sauce and some sugar powder. Also liked how they had a little water dispenser. Studied and chilled here for five hours. Really nice space with wifi, seating and music and not that many people during the weekday afternoons. read more

As a note, this is for their food truck, not their brick and mortar shop. I've gotten waffles from them several times when they were at my university, and last time at a food truck festival. The thing with waffles is getting them cooked perfect is a matter of seconds. When you get the timing just right you get that awesome combination of gentle crunch outside and soft, gooey inside. The balance between sweet and savory, which they have down pat. Consistency wise though, in previous visits, they have been cooked an extra three seconds. Last time though, that gooey center was perfect! Because I realize the challenge at hand, this in and of itself would not have cost them a star. The final hits which stops a perfect rating is a (likely) forgotten ingredient, and more than that: value. Last visit I had "The Zinneken's" which was a standard waffle with whipped cream, chocolate, and speculoos. I know there was chocolate and whipped cream, but if there were any speculoos, they were world champions at hide and seek; being spiced cookies, this is saying something. With value however... while five bucks for a waffle is reasonable, the toppings costing three bucks seems a little much. I took economics in college, so I realize this may simply be a matter of supply and demand, though that doesn't change the fact that chocolate, cookies, and whipped cream don't cost three bucks. read more

I have been meaning to try Zinneken's for while! After lunch, my cousin and I wanted something sweet to we went to Zinneken's! Since it was a Tuesday afternoon, it was not busy. My cousin ordered the Belgian Speculoos Latte and Strawberry Glamour which comes with strawberries, belgian chocolate. I ordered the Berries Insanity which comes with seasonal berries which ended up being blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries! It was delicious; they gave me a ton of berries which I really appreciate that! The Latte was sweet but not overwhelming The waffles were perfectly made; it was little crispy on the outside but soft on the inside! You can not go wrong with any of the combinations on the menu. It was pretty pricey but the waffles and drinks are definitely worth it! For the ambiance, the cafe is pretty small so seating could be a problem when it gets busy. They have a few tables where you could fit 2-4 people per table. The interior is pretty simple and cute! Their tables are wooden and the seats are metal. read more

I was lured into this place by the smell of delicious Belgian waffles. I simply could not resist and followed the smell into the restaurant. I had already eaten several meals that day- breakfast, dessert, lunch.. and now dessert #2. They offer 2 types of waffles- the liege waffle and the brussels waffle. The liege is soft and chewy, made from dough with carnalized Belgian pearl sugar, whereas the brussels is light and crispy. I opted for the liege waffle. Next, you can pick your own toppings, or pick a pre-designed waffle. I decided to go for the sin which had banana and Nutella. You really cant' go wrong with Nutella in general. They also have many other delicious options like the Oreo party, or strawberry glamour. The sin was indeed sinful, but in a good way. The waffle was nice and warm, and went perfectly well with the banana and Nutella. I was extremely satisfied. I highly recommend coming here for a delicious snack! read more

Seemingly Massachusetts staple, everywhere we went has some form of waffles with toppings. The staff was very nice when we came in 20 minutes till closing, and they told us they were only doing take-out orders. We only waited about five minutes. Everyone loved them! The perfect place for dessert on a cold winter's night. Warm and cozy, with down-to-earth and unpretentious vibes. And yes -- the waffles are delicious too. FOOD: Waffles can be pretty pricey. Our Liege Waffle + Strawberry Glamour toppings and a scoop of ice cream came to $9.63. But it was so, so worth it. The waffle was fluffy and incredibly fresh; the strawberries were sweet and best of all, there were a lot of them. And then the Belgian chocolate drizzle on top was heavenly. The use actual melted down chocolate here, like fondue, and none of the Hershey's chocolate syrup type. This is the real deal. If you're looking to come here to get work done, take note: their policy is no Wi-Fi on weekends (their own network), but you can easily hop onto Berryline's open Wi-Fi network instead. Berryline is directly downstairs so the signal strength is good. Zinneken's is my new favorite cozy dessert place in the square. 5/5 for quality and ambiance. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday around 6pm and there was plenty of seating inside and no line to order! We got a plain waffle with Nutella and ice cream which was amazing and we ordered their berry waffle with whipped cream... also amazing! And i appreciated how much of each topping they give you! I've been here many times! OVERALL: Pretty, pretty tasty, and pretty pricey. FOOD: The waffles always come out looking beautiful (definite Instagram fodder) and taste almost as good as they look. You can choose from their preset waffle combinations or build your own. However, the waffles are definitely on the expensive end for what you get (almost $10 for a normal). AMBIANCE/SERVICE: The place is cute but a little cramped; sometimes it's hard to find seating, especially for medium to large groups. read more

I was hoping this place would be just like Wafels and Dinges in NY but it was a let down. I got the fruit delight wafel and unfortunately, the wafel had no texture to it. It was a bit soggy and missing the best part of a Belgian wafel - the caramelized sugar crunches in the corners. The fruit was fresh though and the workers were nice. read more

Zinneken's is located across a church on Mass Ave, just beyond a tiny park where Arrow Street forks left. Their motto (as printed on their website) is Best Belgian Waffles, Made by Actual Belgians. Breakfast is not quite their thing, as they open daily at 9am. Generally, it costs $4.50 for a waffle (Liege or Brussels), with toppings at basically a dollar apiece. A dollar? That sounded pricey to me, since when I selected The Sin option for my Liege Waffle, what was initially a $4.50 snack became a $6.50 treat (plus tax). But the banana slices were generous, spread out in four fanned out rows amounting to perhaps half a banana, without any of the small end pieces. And the Nutella was squiggled both directly on the waffle, and then once again over the fruit. It was a nice, though not overly sweet, dessert. Though after sampling both theirs and Saus' on the same day, I still prefer my homemade version over any I've tasted in the area thus far. But it is too much work to make it at home more than once a blue moon. The freshly made pastry - about the size of my hand! - was delivered to me on a metal plate under a cloud of powdered sugar. Utensils and napkins, however, were self serve by the water and cups. Seating was available both at tables and at a counter overlooking the neighboring mini-park. Zinneken's is incredible. As a BU student, whenever the truck is on campus is a good day. I often get the fruit delight (Belgian chocolate with strawberries and bananas) or the Belgian chocolate with either strawberry or banana. These waffles come off the waffle maker hot and are topped with super fresh fruit and delicious drizzles. The waffles can be topped with any combination of Belgian chocolate, Nutella, caramel, whipped cream, Oreos, strawberries, bananas, and blueberries. The waffles at Zinneken's are worth every. Single. Visited on a Saturday night around 10 pm in June of 2018. We were 4 of us and we didn't have an issue getting seated. I'd not recommend it for a large group sit-in. I'd heard high praises about this waffle joint and I'd say it didn't disappoint. Add Belgian chocolate to your waffle and feel the chocolate covered waffle melt in your mouth, it's magical. Meet the Business Owner: Nhon M.

The story starts with Nhon Ma, a Belgium native who grew up immersed in the food and the restaurant business. Both of his parents owned a world-renowned restaurant in Belgium, while his mother was the only female Asian chef to attain the coveted Michelin Star Award. Nhon grew up taste testing the food and working alongside his parents. He became friends with Bertrand while at school in Brussels. They bonded while feasting on Belgian waffles after classes. At this time, Belgian waffles were baked by vendors, eaten outside on the beautiful streets (as they still are today), and sold at 20 Belgian francs (50 US cents). This sum was a fortune for these two boys at that time, but they found the waffles to be worth every single penny.

The blueberry bagel I had that day was absolutely superb, probably the best blueberry bagel I've ever had in Boston. A few days later, I craved that same blueberry bagel and made the trip back, which is a considerable drive for me. Upon arrival, I was told that blueberry bagels are not offered every day and are only available on Thursdays. I returned the following Thursday, but the experience was very different. I got blueberry, poppy, and a few other bagels to take home. Unfortunately, all of them were absolutely disappointing. They tasted extremely off and very different from the blueberry bagel I had previously. At home, my family ate about half of what we purchased, but none of us had any desire to finish the rest. Overall, the experience was unpleasant, and the bagels were not enjoyable at all. The blueberry bagel from my first visit looked and tasted amazing and was completely different in quality from what I received on my second visit. On top of that, the person behind the counter seemed careless with hygiene, touching the screen, bagels, and other surfaces without any apparent attention to cleanliness. It felt like a completely different place compared to my first visit just a couple of weeks earlier. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed.
