Haven't been to Zion in over a year since moving from the Peoria area. This visit did not disappoint and maintained all the vibes from before. The citro is one of my favorite twists on an iced coffee beverage. It features cold brew, citrus, and soda, and once combined it creates a unique flavor that makes you come back for more. For instance, the halva steamer includes blend of espresso, sesame tahini, dates...a seemingly odd and nonsensical combination that turned out to be genius. What I really enjoyed, however, was the coconut sage latte. The sage has a dominating flavor, so if you generally don't like the herb then this menu item might not be for you. But personally, I love sage and how it gave this drink an astringent yet warm, comforting flavor. Also, the banana butterscotch latte was purely amazing. Came by this coffee shop since it was close to my hotel. The simple but bold black and white sign stood out in the crisp fall morning. The interior made me think of a Bay area coffee shop (I'm from San Jose), minimalistic but very chic. Go the cardamon high Life latte, you can definitely taste that spice! This was definitely an overdue stop...how do I live here and haven't been?! Partner and I stopped on a Sunday morning and enjoyed the patio. Service was outstanding and quick...but most importantly the coffee and toast were delicious! He got the cold brew nitro and I got drip...we also shared 2 toast orders, one whipped ricotta, honey and seed and the other avocado, soft boiled egg and seasoning. I can't say enough about this place! The coffee beans are roasted in house. The vanilla latte is fantastic. I prefer with only 2 pumps of vanilla so it's not as sweet. What I love about this place is it reminds me of Portland. The decor and atmosphere. The lattes are pretty good and I'm glad they have oat milk as an alternative milk substitute! Probably my favorite coffee shop in town. The lavender ginger latte was my favorite seasonal drink. I still think about it and miss Zion. The avocado toast is good but can sometimes vary on who is making it. I've had it a couple times when it was just overly salty or not much seasoning/avocado. I have found myself in the area several times recently and in need of a caffeine fix, the perfect time to try out Zion. Overall I feel this is a solid local venture and would definitely be back. One huge plus is they offer oat milk as a cow milk alternative, oat milk is naturally very sweet so adding sugar becomes unnecessary. Plus the thicker texture really makes an iced coffee more like a thin smoothie. They also make their own syrups which makes them much less like a punch to the face than a commercial syrup. They also offer some unique types of drinks such as a draft latte, matcha limeades, espressos with fruit juices and popfogatos. I am not a fan of the set-up for ordering. You order at the far end of the counter so that you need to edge past customers who are waiting for their drinks to get to the cashier. Logically, the opposite way would be the easiest. They ask your name and then announce both your name and your drink to let you know when it's ready, not sure I see the reason for announcing the type of drink? They also serve alcohol but I believe only after a certain hour. I can't be sure of what hour that is though because it's not listed anywhere on their website or social media (but neither is a menu). Definitely not available for brunch though. Parking is either street parallel spots, typical for this area of town or there is a dedicated lot diagonal from the building. read more

A place that Peoria really needed. A great space that blends modern contemporary and coffee together. There are plenty of seats and tables (beware, there are PEAK times) for you to work, study, or catch up with friends. The coffee is roasted in house and a variety of coffee drinks are offered. I ordered their drip, and it was rich and strong like I want! However, their lattes, like the vanilla bean, is an amazing blend that isn't too strong or sweet. While observing other coffee drinks being made, I can high quality ingredients are used. There is some food that is offered. I hear the avocado toast is a must try, but I got the yogurt bowl. Still waiting for Peoria to have a good acas fruit bowl place, but yogurt was great in quality. Fresh ingredients on top that need to mixed together with the yogurt to provide a NOT very sweet and humbling taste. It does come with a seasonal fruit spread, and I think cranberries was used. It was bitter alone, but with the granola, it was on point. I love the space is invites all types of people- the college student, the local, the business person, the jock, the hipster, the moms, the dads, the teens, the millennials, etc. As downtown Peoria is receiving more attention, Zion has perfectly repurposed the space that hopefully attracts more alike! PS I also have heard if you have the chance to meet Banu, the owner, her approachable personality is very welcoming. Her story of Zion Coffee brings in hope! But man o man the "brand" of Zion could be described as "put out customer service" or "better than you" or "welcome to the hospital cafeteria of the future." I love to frequent coffee shops. They've got a pretty tasty matcha green tea latte, all of their in-house cups of hot whatever come with these tasty little butter cookies, and the place usually smells like warm, toasty bread! What's not to like? Well, the abundance of FROSTA stools from Ikea because TRULY your girl's back hurts from just looking at the seating in this place. Buuuut the general aesthetic of Zion is such that you can't help but want to come back, sore spine and all. Zion is easily one of the coolest places to hang out in Peoria. This coffee shop looks like it belongs in Oregon or Colorado, but it's a great thing that it's located in Central IL. On both the inside and outside, the shop is aesthetically pleasing and is super unique. The white mixed with brick walls and green plants puts together a great coffeeshop atmosphere. There is a ton of seating as well. I would highly suggest the citro (cold brew, lemon, and seltzer water.) It sounds super funky, but it is delisshhhh.
