When we had a meeting they cited me being transgender and depressed as reasons that may "make me harm my peers". I never returned the violence, I would endlessly tell the adults around me. They would promise things would change, that I deserve respect, but it was all false promises. The fact is that I was always compliant with rules, I had good grades, I was quiet and shy. I never had a history of violence, I never did as I went through this school and graduated later on. Many of my teachers saw me as a bright student. I was a student in 2015-2016. I am 21 now. The trauma of the bullying and assaults had changed me as a person as a teen and young adult. This school also had a football coach as a well known Proud Boy (a racist organization, they are known to gather at a bar in Lake Stevens)

I should feel safe at this school, not constantly worried someone is going to do something to me or my stuff when they have no reason to. I am not popular but I am very kind and I'm not one of those freaks who go from a boy to a girl and identify as a DOG, so why is this happening to me.

This school also needs much more funding for the arts and needs to focus less on the sports. Sports get so much attention while the arts gets none. One assembly and they still made it about JROTC instead of art. Yes, band and choir is art but all the traditional arts such as ceramics and painting and photography got was a PowerPoint and the musical aspect was the rest of it. Academics gets even less focus than sports. That's crazy!

The review Makena A. posted about an assembly being too invested in JROTC and Sports really stung because those classes are really fun and support new learners. Just because we focus more on sports and less on arts doesn't mean we don't care about arts, period. We used to be well known in the state for our athletic teams being very good for many years in a row, and i think we're just craving some of that lost glory back. Also, if you don't like rednecks, DON'T HANG WITH REDNECKS. Honestly, you're acting like being a redneck is bad. Our community is diverse and welcoming of all races, and there has been no bullying or racism that i can see, and certainly none from our more conservative-minded faction of our school. All in all, we respect each other, and learn how to grow as a community.

My race…read morewas the 800 metres (though I still wish it could have been the 1 mile run) and I ran representing Shorewood High School. As a junior in the Autumn of 2008, I competed here for swim team and the on-campus pool was the first place where I swam faster than 1:20.00 in the 100 yard breaststroke. It is the only high school I both swam and ran at on-campus in my four years taking part in high school sports (our swimming pool and track were community facilities located off-campus). The stands by the track were easy to navigate and viewing the racing was possible, no siding on the seating area blocking part(s) of the track from view. My glasses bounced on my face as I ran, which was a new experience in my running. Something about how my feet hit the track surface here was different from the other tracks I ran at to such an extent as to cause my glasses to bounce excessively. Approximately 16 years later, I still remember the feeling. The pool deck around the pool was a bit cramped, making walking around during races a little difficult. We still had space for our bags though, so it was not a big detractor. The pool was comfortable to compete in even on first time swimming at the pool. No slippery tiles at the end of the lanes requiring additional racing adjustment to accommodate. The lighting was on the dimmer side, which I personally enjoyed because too bright of lights in a pool with no windows can hurt my eyes.
