Big money. Will our kids learn anything here? Hope so. Only time will tell. The teachers seem good. School faculty seems professional. The principal is a nice lady and appears fair and level headed. Safety is key here. Good. We need that. Problem here is the extreme insulation of teaching staff from parents. It's very hard to speak w your child's teacher in person unless you make an appt in the front office, which is much like trying to be a new patient at a doctor's office. "5 weeks from now we can get you in." Ugh. All is basically done via email or an app which can be arduous to communicate properly re issues when not face to face. There is no showing up at school for a quick hello w a teacher. Nope. They won't let you see your child's teacher real quick. They'll turn you away, and give you a slight snide vibe... like you might be a criminal or trying to do something dastardly. The attitude is unnecessary and unreasonably excessive. Another aside is that "side eye" that some "outdoor kid wranglers wearing safety vests" give if you dare ask a question, or "cross an imaginary line" that they deem uncrossable. So many rules to break by accident. A few, not all mind you, seem to deem some parents as a threat. I'm sure these ladies outside have seen their share of hard to deal withs, they're out there, but that percentage is low. Parents w their children aren't threats. (Hence the 3.65 out of 5 stars) What about that "Kindness Always" message again? Now... the ugliness that is the drop off and pick up situation at Hillcrest. Hoooo weee! DO NOT DO IT. Stressful! The school built in 1961 was never ready for the volume it has now in the 21st century, as well as the neighborhood that was built around it. Put your child on the bus! Seriously. Trying to park or getting in a line up of cars winding through a neighborhood an hour prior to drop or pickup is extreme. It can move along expeditiously at times, but mostly it's slow going and a daily fight. I wouldn't, nor would most, recommend it. You have to get there fairly early before school, and 45 mins before for pickup. Lots of sitting in your car waiting. People cut the line amd make it worse too. Getting away from the school is also tough. Put the kids on the bus! Nix the traffic jam and hanging around out front waiting for the teacher to walk out. This is an issue all experience. All in all Hillcrest is alright. B-. We can deal w the vests outside, the warden-esque front office, and the insane school traffic. Most agree it's the better school of the bunch in LS. Better than most. We work with what we have.

Our kids have been to Birch Tree (BTA) over the past 4 years. We've had an amazing experience, and…read morerecently realized how exceptional it is compared to other daycares. We took for granted the high quality care and high standards set by the management and staff. We took a short break and moved our youngest to another daycare for a month just to be closer to our house (national chain daycare in Kenmore), and it was literally night and day. The other daycare was subpar in quality and extremely short staffed, even though the tuition was comparable. We decided to move them back to Birch Tree, and drive the extra miles. What we love about Birch Tree is the management, warm and caring teachers who give lots of hugs, home cooked food, facilities, quality education, classroom camera and Bright Wheel App. Despite the locations expansion, BTA still feels locally owned and the owner Natalie and head of schools Jessica are very much involved in all of their schools. You will still see them in-person floating around the different locations. They generally know all student's names, and the local staff are always friendly and greating parents. They hold their staff to high standards and also expect the same of parents. Kids are well behaved, they wear inside vs outside shoes. Food is better than my home cooked meals, classrooms are modern with high ceilings and large windows, and all teachers have open communication with parents via the instant messaging feature. The admin staff is also on top of communication, and they have an abundance of teachers and admin staff. They also offer weekly PE, music, and Spanish classes which are all included in the price. They also offer parents night-out occasionally, and host events and weekly summer field trips for pre-k. You can do 3, 4, or 5 days a week. Speaking with staff, they enjoy working there and say that there's opportunity for them to grow and take on different roles within the school or office. Other parents we've met have moved from other daycares to go to BTA and seem very happy with BTA. They have well prepared our oldest for kindergarten and we are so thankful. None of these things we observed with the national chain daycare.

I…read morewas a hyperactive kid who struggled with focus regardless of my environment, yet I felt I was treated unfairly at the time. Deep down I knew this was probably a result of my actions and/or weaknesses, and overall I knew I loved and respected the staff and environment of the place, however as the years went on I was tempted to be bitter (especially after feeling so well received in future public schools). Fast forwarding a decade had brought me more experiences and perspective, allowing me to more thoroughly appreciate what Northshore was doing in my life at the time. They held a high standard in a way that balanced love and firmness. I think we were both growing and learning at that time, and I cannot deny that I was shown love, guidance, an example of excellence, etc. Super important things to a growing kid. Fast forward another decade, I was able to return to Northshore and visit with my old principal and some of the teachers I had back then. An awesome experience to see them as fellow adults, see their personal/professional growth and the success of their academics, school campus, etc. Even got to have a chat with one of my childhood heroes Marc Marion. Marc: well done, good and faithful servant! Coming full circle, I now have a kindergartener at Northshore. We weighed many options during our research, and we felt the overall benefits far outweighed the sacrifices. Almost a year into school, I can confidently say we made the right decision. Every school and every person has issues, quirks, etc., yet the level of excellence in all areas has surpassed our expectations. I could list all the positives I've seen, but I think Northshore does a well enough job of marketing themselves, so I'll leave it at this: I couldn't ask for a better place to entrust a significant portion of my son's daily mental/physical/spiritual growth. If you're looking for more info, DM me, I'd be happy to share more.

My overall experience with Northshore Christian Academy was extremely disappointing and concerning…read more As a parent, I need to feel confident that my child is being cared for with patience, cleanliness, and respect.
