I think it's about time I review zipcar here on yelp. As part of the wave of new ridesharing and carsharing services, zipcar really stands out as an innovative, cost effective replacement for car ownership. For several years, I owned a car in the city, but living in the city the cost is not worth it. However, it's important to have access to a car at times, for road trips out of the city, trips to King of Prussia, or grocery shopping. The ease of reserving a car by the hour or day in the Zipcar app on my iPhone or on the website is unbeatable. Reserve a car for around $10 per hour or $90 per 24-hour period and that includes gas (180 miles per 24 hrs) and insurance. The process of picking up and dropping off the car is simple - just tap your zipcard on the card reader and you're in. In summary, would highly recommend Zipcar for anyone without a car or with occasional need for an extra vehicle. read more

WARNING: Rented a Zipcar, three hours, from 8th & Market location. Never received physical card, used app for 1st time. 1st half of hour on phone with cx ser attempting to find car at this hugh parking lot. Photos of location showed "Pedestrian Walkway" of which there are several. Then needed instructions on opening car door, starting and shutting off car, a half an hour. Upon return, received pop-up asking if I would be late. Answered, yes "under 10 minutes". I returned car late 8 minutes. Zipcar charged me a $73.31 late charge on a $70.50/rental, totaling $143.81 for three hours. Zipcar's foreign cx service agents won't remove the late charge and won't allow emailed photos of the physical parking lot showing the several signs indicating the same entrance. I'm also physically handicapped, the app should have said "Pedestrian walkway" closest to Market Street (or closest to Chestnut Street, on Chestnut Street). I also was on the phone a half an hour at the start of the rental needing instructions on using the app because the start, stop, open door didn't appear immediately. $143.81 for three hours, ripoff! I joined Zipcar yesterday and booked a trip I need to take on Tuesday to a job interview. Well, you need the app to unlock the car and the app simply does not work on my brand new Pixel phone. Nada. I called customer service, twice, and was told my issue would be escalated to upper management and that I would hear back from them in two to three business days. My trip is sooner than that. I just cancelled my membership and book thru Turo instead. Zipcar is a joke. read more

This be used ZipCar 7 times and EVERY SINGLE TIME something goes wrong. Today I reserved a car that's a block from my house. But I got a text that instead I reserved a car 7 blocks from my house. The one that I have today, one time wasn't even there. Another time, same car, they keys were missing. Another time, same car, the front tire was flat. One time they switched the reservation from the car that's a block away to one that was 3 MILES away. Sure 3 miles isn't far when you live in rural India, but I walk to get the car. Customer service reps have attitude and short. For reference, I used Philly Car Share (later Enterprise Car Share) from 2007 through 2020 and only had one problem with a rental. There are no alternatives in Philadelphia so we have to take the crap we can get. read more

I'd give them 0 stars if I could. About 6 weeks ago I reserved a Zip car. There is supposed to be one parked about 2 blocks from where I live, so I reserved that one. The morning of my reservation, I received a call telling me that the car I had reserved wasn't available. The closest available car was more than 1/2 a mile away. That may not sound like a lot, but when you're 81 and have arthritis, it's a long walk, and it made me late for the appointment that I needed the car for. I should have known better, but I needed a car again yesterday so I reserved the car at the location around 2 blocks away. This time I didn't even have the courtesy of a call. I arrived at the location...no car. When I called Zipcar, they told me that it was parked nearly a mile away. This time, I just called Enterprise. They were very helpful, and to my surprise, the car was less expensive than the Zip car would have been. I want to cancel my membership. They don't want to refund my membership fee. Needless to say that I won't use Zip cars again. read more

I was charged a late fee of $115 for a car I didn't take out! Beware of these scammers.

Actually a nightmare! This was my first experience with zip car and certainly my last. I'd check if Turo is available in your area as I had a much better experience through that service. 1. The first car I got was filthy (trash, dirt and stains everywhere). There was a hole worn in the floor on the driver side. The gas was below the required 1/4 tank. The gas card was missing so I had to pay out of pocket for gas with no clear instructions on how or when I'd be reimbursed. The car was covered, every side, in significant dents and scratches. I had to search through the car to find the key because the lanyard that was supposed to attach it to the dash was broken. Then about an hour into my trip after stopping for coffee another driver alerted me that one of the break lights was out. Obviously this is a problem as I could be ticketed and it's a safety hazard. I called customer service and the agent did not seem to understand giving someone a car without proper working break lights was a problem. The agent then informed me my only option was to drive the car back to the pick up location, which is now an hour away, and then go to a new car to continue my trip. (I had booked the car with the intent of going to multiple out of town meetings for work). The agent told me to call after my first meeting and the new vehicle could be arranged. So I called and was informed nothing could be done until I was back at the pick up location. I then cancelled my second meeting to take the 2 hour detour to get a different car. When I called after dropping the car off, the vehicle previously discussed as a replacement was no longer available and I my only option was a vehicle significantly farther from my home. Zip car offered no flexibility even after I explained I was concerned for my safety as my trip would end late at night and it would not be safe for me to walk home from the area the car was located. Given no other choice I accepted the second car. I also had to request the first car be removed from the app for booking as it immediately was relisted without zip car addressing any of the issues including the broken brake light. I requested a call from a supervisor regarding a discount etc as the issues with the car had significantly derailed my day, including the 2 hour detour to return the call, I was promised a call back within the hour. No call was ever received. 2. The second car was somehow dirtier than the first and smelled of cigarette smoke covered by a strong cheap air freshener. There was garbage left in the vehicle, what appeared to be spilled soda all over the center console. Splattered, what I assume was food, across the dash, ceiling and windshield. The gas was again less than the required 1/4 tank and this time close to empty. The gas card was once again missing so I had to pay out of pocket without clear instructions on how or when I would be reimbursed. Upon turning on the car, I was alerted there were issues with the tire pressure, traction system and an additional system. I again called zip car and this time was informed there were no other cars and I could drive this one or cancel the trip. Hesitant to cancel the remainder of my obligations I began my trip. I then discovered that there was an issue with the car where I could not lock the vehicle from the zip car app. This meant each time I wanted to leave the vehicle I had to call zip car, go through the automated prompts, verify my identity, and request that someone lock the car for me. This was incredibly inconvenient especially when I returned home after 2:30 in the morning and had to call multiple times before being connected with an agent. The cherry on top was seeing once I got home that I had actually been charged for the second car.... I again asked to speak with a manger etc and was told they cannot do so b/c call volume was too high (hmm wonder why) So let this save you the numerous headaches I suffered. read more

Zipcar fixed my banishment for life after I contacted BBB. I'm ok with Zipcar again, and it is mutual, but the restrictive round trip policy inconvenience motivated me to buy a car, so now I have a car, and rare occasion to use Zipcar. I hope someday they can operate in the US more akin to the Indego Bike program (or UK Zipcars) with one way trip convenience. read more

I use to be a Zipcar member a few years ago. They had amazing customer service back then. Not the case anymore. They took my money, of course, to renew my membership. The issue? It's been two months, and several hours of hold time, trying to get my initial zip card to activate my membership. This is ridiculous. Email threads lead no way, hold times are beyond 40 minutes. Car maintenance is non-existent. Vehicles in hazardous conditions and... very stinky. Today, I had to deal with a flat tire, added pressure so that I could return the car safely to its initial location, called Zipcar four times. They provided me with an alternate vehicles 6 blocks away. I walked there, there was an empty parking spot. No apologies, no credit. I was told they would graciously "extend" my trip by one hour (I had already wasted two hours on the previous "trip"). I felt soooo grateful I cancelled my membership. But 30 minutes later they called me back and asked me if I wanted the second vehicle, that turned out to be improperly parked. I do not like Zip cars, not under the rain, not with a flat tire, not with four flat tires, not with dog hair, not with a foul stench, not in my neighborhood, not 6 blocks away, not in the dark, not with a fox. This was my first time using zip car. I picked up the car and was immediately disgusted. The previous guest left the car in bad conditions. Very dirty, ashes all over the gears, reeking of marijuana, low fuel, low tire pressure, NO FUEL CARD, and they must've of had an animal because my allergies were bad. I called zipcar and reported all of this on the app. The representative told me there were no other cars available so go figure I couldn't switch the car out. What made me so mad is the fact that they told me I had to put tire pressure back in the car and I wouldn't be reimbursed for it even though it wasn't my fault. COMPLETELY DISHONORABLE. Based on these two incidents alone on my FIRST trip, I would never use zip car again. read more

Horribly maintained cars and customer service. Cars smell like weed and have maintenance lights going off. Hold times of more than 40 minutes. Website doesn't work and repeatedly signs you out after logging in. I've had multiple issues with Zipcar to detail, but the worst was when I couldn't take the trip because the tire pressure was low and my multiple attempts for a refund through phone, email, the app were 'not received'. Finally got through after calling on phone 4x. I'm cancelling and telling everyone to not use this service. Cheaper to Uber, not worth the stress. read more

Zipcar is Terrible. Do not waste your money. I have reserved two cars this week; and I am truly disgusted with the way the cars were left by the previous driver. People think they are their personal car, and can do whatever they want. The first car, looked as though someone spit on the center console. The second car, had an overwhelming smell of weed, with a lot of "buds" on the floor that must have fallen from their joint/blunt. The passenger side door handle was used as a make shift ashtray and they had hung an awful smelling air freshener, just made the smell worse....air fresheners don't cover a smell.... Yesterday was my first Zipcar experience. I needed a car for the entire day to run around town, picking up and dropping off boxes of supercool Yelp swag and running promotions. The Honda Civic I rented, the cheapest car in the fleet at $86 incl. tax for a full sixteen-hour reservation, was ideal for this urban jaunt. The car was parked just three blocks from house. Contrary to the user agreement, it had not one drop of gas in it. A quick phone call to the automated customer service line (printed on your Zipcard) to report that fact was made, and off I went to the fueling station. This was a minor inconvenience -- as Mary S noted, you are a bit at the mercy of the prior driver for many things. Otherwise, I had a blast zooming around in the roomy Civic. The trunk was enormous, I could have put my bicycle in it had I wished, and the included iPod cable was a fun touch. Next time I might spring for the Mini-Cooper! read more

Zipcar in Philadelphia is worse than what I have experienced in other cities. I'm attaching photos of the car that I paid $190 to use for one day. When I opened the car door it also wreaked of cigarette smoke. I didn't even bother to get inside of the car because of its smell and the terrible condition on the outside, including dents, scrapes and scratches on all sides of the car. I contacted the customer service number and spoke with someone helpful who cancelled and refunded the total amount that I had spent. He also tried to help me reserve another car and the only one available on short notice was across from us, however, upon looking at it I could see that it had a flat tire. Zipcar is an absolute joke in Philadelphia. The cars are not well maintained or even routinely checked it appears. I do not trust them to provide customers with safe and clean cars and will be cancelling my membership and requesting a refund for that as well. I lost about $100 today in tickets to an event that is non-refundable due to the car I reserved not being in a decent condition. There are no other vehicle rental options available on the weekend. Aside from the customer service representative I spoke with, Zipcar is pitiful when it comes to providing good service. read more

Zipcar is insured by sedwick. Bicyclist have no right on the road is sedwick and ZipCar's stance after their drivers try to kill you, there is nothing you will be able to do. Corporate murder of pedestrians. Boycot zipcar. It's a bad company that endorses running down bicyclist. Dooring them (opening door into oncoming traffic. Disregarding bicyclist, crashing them.) Zipcar driver caused two accidents within 30 minutes. First was him crashing into another car, then the car disabled by program of Zipcar. Then he caused another accident with the bicyclist driving by 15 minutes later. ZipCar's disable causing other safety issues to other traffic after car shut off. The zipcar driver would have fled the scene but instead the company zipcar denies the fault. Have to sue Zipcar to stop the corporation from killing pedestrians. read more

I used to love Zipcar, but in the last year, it has gotten so bad I've had to cancel my membership. The company will change or cancel your reservation a few hours beforehand and not compensate you at all - the representatives can only offer you extra driving minutes on your NEXT reservation. Other times, cars will be missing or in terrible condition, with bumpers falling off or mirrors missing (I wish I was kidding). Maintenance is terrible, cars are dirty and disgusting, and customer service (lately) is of no help at all. I need to use these cars for jobs I get outside of the city and so I need something much more dependable and safe. read more

This sounds like it could be a good idea, BUT the application process is seriously flawed. My daughter applied for a membership before she realized they do not accept probationary licenses. They rejected her application, understandably, since it was a probationary license. What was NOT clear was that she would be unable to apply again once her license was upgraded to a full license--EVER. There is no opportunity to resubmit your application once you have been rejected. Managers and supervisors have no authority to override the system. It's a known problem that was promised a fix in 2021. It's near the end of 2022. Whoever was the software developer really screwed up here. This should be an easy fix. read more

It's the lowest rating that i could give. The cars are often dirty, smelling of smoke, dented and unpleasant. Nevertheless, we used the cars. The customer service is non-existent. For awhile, I thought that I observed some improvement in it, but I was wrong. And Zipcar has now made it official! We were long time members, and we were uncerimoniously cancelled by zipcar after an incident that occurred during the third week of April. We reserved a car and used it. My husband returned the car to its location, after 2 1/2 hours, with no problems except that he could not lock the car with his card. He was on hold with customer service for a long time (in the rain) and they finally answered and told him that it was okay..it would be taken care of. The next thing that happened was that we received a bill for $342, plus change, for towing etc. We tried to call (both my husband and I made periodic calls) for two months, and each time we were told the matter was being investigated, being reviewed, etc. Last week we finally got an email saying that our membership had been cancelled . Holly from Zipcar said: "After a review of your account history, we have decided to close your account. In order for car-sharing to be successful, we need our members to community rules and our Zipcars so that all members can have successful trips We found your behavior to be disruptive to the community and so we closed your account to limit any further impact. We know you may disagree, but cannot be reversed. We hope you continue to seek out other means of transportation in the future." We can't imagine what the disruptive behavior was. I wonder if you, like I, would find the letter to be a bit vague. Why did it take "customer service" two months to write this letter? Please don't waste your money on this company. You guys charge me $165 for one day, which is already a ridiculous price point given enterprise's cheaper ($115/day) fares. But on top of this unnecessarily expensive 24 hour experience, the car's interior and exterior are absolute garbage. There is spit covering all 4 passenger windows. Some blew the front tire so there is a black donut on the front-left wheel that was installed god knows how long ago - donuts have a 50-mile limit... this spare is completely worn out. There are papers, grass, mud, dirt, empty bottles, and other trash crammed into the sides of the car and scattered all over the floor. The entire cupholder is filled with mysterious, smelly, and stinky liquids that is also infested with fruit flies. I am paying 165 to have flies hitting my face every other minute? So this is what you define as value equal to $165? Definitely not on this planet. On top of this, I complain to support and there only offer is a $13 dollar refund or an extra hour (1 hour = $13 of value in zipcar world. You really think that this experience is still valued at $147? Cannot wait until you hear from my credit card company. Bottom line, the only other zip car I ever rented was in similar state of quality. it's clear you guys don't care about the vehicle's quality and place this shit hole cars in places where there's inelastic market for cars. You guys are price poaching on college campuses because they are the only consumer population willing to use your nasty vehicles for a ridiculous mark up. I have been a ZipCar member in Philadelphia for 3 years. ZipCar is convenient for those who do not want to own a car but what happened recently is the final straw for me and I am cancelling my membership. These penny-pinching assholes do not care about their responsible customers and customer service is super unhelpful, aloof, and impersonal. If you ever have a real issue or need to dispute a charge, you will not have the option to even to speak on the phone with a real person but will be forced to email the anonymous "ZipCar Member Services" team. I am cancelling my account because ZipCar charged me $225 (5 days after my last reservation) and suspended my account because Lew Blum towing in Philly towed a car that I had returned on time. ZipCar did not even send me any notification. The charge just showed up on my bill and I only found out because I went to reserve a car and couldn't. I called Zipcar and spoke to some agent at the national call center who could not help me with my problem. He attached a note to my account for calling in and told me "ZipCar Member Services" will email me to resolve my issue if I wished to contest the charge. Thus started a email chain back and forth. I sent multiple angry but very rational emails to ZipCar asking them for proof that the towing was the result of my error. I asked for the exact date, time, and location the car was towed. They could not furnish the proof and came up with various excuses saying they trust that the towing company towed the car because I MUST have parked the car illegally. I asked them how that could be if their system showed that I returned my car on time. They proceeded to say, well the next customer reported that the car wasn't there...which of course it wasn't because it was towed away but how the heck is that my fault?! Zipcar could not prove that the towing company towed the car legitimately. They also speculated that because I had rented from 2 locations in the past, I could have returned the car to the incorrect location by accident. Wow, ZipCar, way to insult my intelligence and accuse of me of something I COULD have done but didn't? So yeah, stay away. I will no longer be touching any ZipCars, not even with a 10 foot pole. Touching a ZipCar last got me a $225 bill. If this car towing incident has not convinced you to stay away, here are some other inconveniences I've had to deal with in the past 3 years: --ZipCars are not one-way. You must return the car to where you picked it up. --You pay for cars by the hour. That means, if you drive to the suburbs, for example, to attend a friend's party , you will be paying ~$10 an hour just to attend said party. If you stay for something like 4 hours, you could rack up a $40+ bill, more on the weekends. I hope you love your friends a lot. Better to just use Uber! --If someone has the car after you, you cannot add more time to your reservation and MUST return the car on time or get charged $50. It is a very anxiety ridden situation if you're having a good time with your friends and you wish you can stay for another hour but you can't because you HAVE to return the car on time or get charged $50. This has happened to me. I've also gotten charged $50 for getting lost and having my phone die. --You have to factor traffic into your reservation. It's not a good feeling having to pay $9/hr extra to sit in traffic. --When it snows, you are responsible for clearing snow off of the ZipCar. This cuts into your driving/renting time. Sometimes the cars aren't even equipped with a snow brush. --Cars often have dirty windows and NO window washing fluid. --Cars often have the low tire pressure light on. Seriously, do they even maintain their fleet? --You are responsible for refilling the tank if it's low. This also cuts into your reservation time. I've had to extend my reservation sometimes just to refill the gas. --I've had frustrating experiences where the gas card system did not work and I wasted 15+ minutes of my reservation time trying to make it work only to give up. --I've had instances where the parking RFID card for the lot was not in the car and I had to call ZipCar, only to be told by the representative that she was in St Louis and could not help me. I had to speak to the parking attendant and got berated for having to bug her to be let back into the parking lot when it's not even my fault. --God forbid you leave anything in the ZipCar. It will be lost forever. I have lost 3 phone mounts and USB cables to ZipCars. --You can extend your reservation but you cannot shorten it. If you end up not using the total time you reserved for, you do not get your money back for unused time. --If you have to dispute a charge, you have to do it via email. The call center people have no idea about anything except some general reservation stuff and they will use their remote location as an excuse to not help you with your specific car problem. God forbid you have anything wrong with your car. Stay away!! read more

Worst experience ever! Dirty and damaged vehicle, reporting through app does not work, overcharged, no gas card - so, I PAID FOR GAS, so many miscellaneous charges ($261.84 for a one day reservation), ineffective and unhelpful customer service, so much wasted time. They are unapologetic and thoughtless. They offered me $7 (representing 15-mins) in credits for my troubles and claim that it is a new policy. The max that a Supervisor can offer is 30-mins, or so I was told by a confusing, uninformed and misleading "Supervisor". I will NEVER use Zipcar again, I will NEVER recommend them, I intend to present a claim for all of these additional charges and my membership fee be returned. I tried to apply for ZipCar while on holiday in the UK. They made it seem super easy and fast, which was convenient for me, but it wasn't. I Applied and heard back that they would review my application and get back to my in 48 hours. I applied for the free monthly account. So no harm I thought. Then I see a charge on my card for $10. I hadn't even been approved. Then they responded asking for all these other documents to support my application. Which ended up being a waste of time because I had left uk by that time. I emailed them to ask about the charge and to say that my application was never accepted. They said they charge a $10 non refundable application fee. Never read that when I signed up for the free monthly account. Also was unable to cancel my membership (that didn't exist) and has to write them again to cancel the membership out of fear of further hidden charges on an account I never even received authorization to use! Unimpressed to say the least. I ended up using Turo which was easy and fast and hassle free as they promised!!! read more

Zipcar is not closed. And it is a good value for the convenience and lack of hassle that the major rental car companies give you. However, the cars are often really dirty on the inside (i.e. food crumbs, leaves, dirt, etc.) Because they don't clean the cars very often or after each use. read more

Approx. 10 minutes after I wrote the review below I received a call from Anthony (who turns out to be the guy who replied to my original comment in August). Anthony offered a refund of the $21.00 but proceeded to explain the cancellation policy to me. Which I didn't need explained. I did my part. I cancelled a day in advance. But I have increase my review to 2 stars, because I actually got a physical response. Honestly, he offered a refund, but I have trouble depending on this because in my previous experience with billing, nothing was ever done correctly...so we shall see. I will keep it only at 2 stars because still...$21.00 cancellation fee is ridiculous and that fact that it took so many calls, emails, reviews, and comments to get someone on the phone that seemed knowledgeable and a positive attitude. I appreciate the follow-up from Anthony, but the damage has been done...I am looking forward to my year membership expiration. So the response seems like it was just fake effort to look like they were attempting better customer service. I reserved a zipcar for Wednesday, 9/23. Cancelled it on Tuesday, 9/22 through the application because a friend offered her car for me to borrow. I even checked it later on that evening to confirm that it cancelled, which it was. Sure enough I got an alert on Wednesday morning reminding me of my reservation. I then again, cancelled it. But of course ZipCar charged me a cancellation fee of $21.00!!! 21.00!!!! Again I repeat $21.00. (minus the 5 extra fees they charge when renting a zipcar - see picture) I get the purpose of the cancellation fee (but not a $21.00 cancellation fee??). If a car is reserved and then cancelled in a short period of time, it lessens the chance of someone else renting the car for that time, fine I get it, but $21.00 Their phone application is glitchy, as per my previous comment when they allowed me to reserve a car that wasn't available because it was in the shop getting maintenanced. So basically ZipCar is unreliable, unfair, charges without cause, can't manage refunds and fixing situations and customer service is below par. I unfortunately already paid the $70 annual fee, otherwise I would cancel ZipCar. I asked for my membership fee returned, prorated, but I was denied. Zipcar is not worth the headache. I spend more time on the phone with ZipCar fixing problems than actually using their service. Go Uber... besides being cheaper and faster, they have their billing department figured out. read more

Not sure why the reviews are so low. I went to this location in-person to pick up my card. For all those expecting the mailing to be faster, just go pick up the card lol. The lady working the front was super friendly and talked to me about cost effective ways to use the Zipcar. I didn't receive any extra charges on my bill, rented a car for 24-hrs and had no issues. Make sure you return the car to the lot that you got it, and if you plan on using the car for more than 8 hrs, you might as well rent out the day, because it will probably be around $100. read more

Total garbage. I cancelled my membership last year after severe service issues. So I rejoined last week thinking they'd gotten the kinks worked out. Nope. In a three-day period, I rented two cars--both trips had issues. First trip: car came back late. Then wouldn't start while on my trip. Second trip: car not there and TWO HOURS away. Zipcar customer service doesn't care -- it's a foreign call center whose goal is to keep you holding long enough to just hang up... which I'm pretty sure is deceptive. Ultimately got my membership fee refunded, but not worth the hassle. read more

I've been a zipcar member for almost a year. Car sharing is fairly common and easily understood, but what happens when things go wrong? The short answer - Zipcar's outstanding customer service has your back. A couple days after Philly's snowpocalypse I reserved a car for two days. My rental was off a snow covered alley and completely blocked in. A quick call to zipcar, and they switched my reservation to the already plowed adjacent car. The snow-free car was in a higher price range than my original reservation, so they comped the difference. After my first day of driving was done (Saturday, 11pm), I decided to return the car for the night and got stuck in an icy hole. Yes, stuck. F***ing stuck, 2' from my return spot. Another call to zipcar (national hotline) and service was on the way. Scheduled eta was 1 hr. Less than 45 minutes later, a friendly service tow showed up and was able to free the car. Based on the snowy conditions, I decided to cancel the second day of my reservation. I also put in a request for a refund for the second day, since the car was literally stuck in the ice. Well, after one online complaint the Philadelphia manager called to let me know the entire trip would be refunded. I was also given a customer survey, which I gladly filled out. So, this is my long winded thanks to Zipcar for really taking care of me. I couldn't have asked for a better service. read more

Thank you, Philadelphia Zipcar, for existing at 2am when, upon returning to my hotel near Rittenhouse Square, I realized I'd forgotten my wallet at North Bowl and didn't want to spend another $20 to retrieve it via cab (plus, we were leaving the next morning and couldn't return later). Thank you also for giving me the opportunity to drive a 2010 Honda Insight. I felt kinda cool driving a hybrid car, but probably wouldn't purchase one on my own (the awkward tiny back window really messes with your line of sight). But - what's this? DC Zipcar offers me reduced car reservations between 11:30pm-7am, reduced rates on hybrid cars, and auxiliary cords to plug my ipod into the car's stereo system. I didn't realize there was a difference city-to-city until this weekend. For the sake of Philly Zipsters here's hoping Zipcar catches up quick! read more

What a nightmare . . . got tricked with all their promotions. Beware, no matter what promotions they hand out, they do not always honor it. Be prepared to pay full price anytime. If you sign up as a new zipcar member with their promotions and then find out about the 19.99 a month deal for weekday driving, the promotion says that you won't need to pay annual fees, but Zip car will not refund any annual fees already paid. I'm hovering at 3.5 but went for the 4 because Zipcar is lifesaver for the carless community. Perks: -Everyone who works at Zipcar on 12th is really friendly and energetic. When you have to communicate with them, it's always pleasant. Same goes for the phone operators. -The office is small, bright and adorable -Zipcar has a ton of cars. I've never had to walk farther than a few blocks to find something. There are a nice variety of cars, too. -Parking spots are better than the car share -After a lot of math, Zipcar ends up being cheaper than car share for me -You can have multiple accounts within your account. I.E. I have a personal and work account so that I don't have to get reimbursements. -Overnight rates are cheap Cons: -As everyone mentions, the $50 late fee is killer. My advice? Give yourself extra time and don't be late. It's not that hard. If you're really in a bind and something bizarre has happened, they'll work with you. Like that one time I reserved a car from 3-4 and in my mind thought, "Oh, Liz, you have the car from 4-5" picked up the car at 359 and drove around in essentially a stolen car for an hour. They were so nice about my stupidity. -Most cars include an aux cable. Most of these cables are broken. -For some reason I'm always stuck with the person who leaves the car at juuuuust 1/4 tank of gas so I'm putting gas in which is annoying when you're on a schedule -One way trips don't exist. -If you're going to hang out somewhere then things get really pricey. Until I buy a car, I'll be keeping my membership as the positives and convenience outweigh the negatives. read more
