Dreadful customer service operated from Athens. Take forever to answer the phone and 48 hours over emails. I have a Zip car now parked outside my home in a restricted bay, so close to my car that I cannot move my car, and Zipcar are totally disinterested. This is the new flexible inconvenience to everyone else service. Watch out for their new dump-it-anywhere arrangement in your Council area as you could end up with one outside your home for days at a time. read more

Zipcar is great UNTIL something goes wrong.. i.e. if you have an accident or need to get in touch with the company. The customer service teams are extremely rude and insensitive to the members. As long as tthe company gets the money, it does not care what situation the member is in as long as the company's interests are protected. I was involved in an accident where a third party hit the car I was driving. I spend on average £300 a month on rentals as I prefer the flexibility of zipcar over can ownership (until now).. following the accident my account was suspended but I wasn't made aware of it and was allowed to make a reservation. After travelling about 30mins from my house to collect the car I was told of the suspension. Running late to my appointment, the customer service representative offer me a refund of the reservation and made it sound like he was doing me a favour! What about my appointment? If I know about this before I would have made alternative arrangements the day before! ... They refused to pay for the taxi and offered to put £10 credit on my account ... Inconsiderate as I was 30mins away from home, late for my appointment, in that situation a credit was pointless and no good to me ... It wasn't going to get me to my destination. It has been 2 months since the incident and Zipcar charged me £750 for the accident that wasn't even my fault and after continuous requests to reimburse my measly £66 annual membership out of courtesy (as I had only just renewed it) and do not plan on using zip car again.. they still have not responded. The tone of their emails was disgraceful and no sympathy what so ever... There are much better car clubs out there so don't waste your money on these guys .. when the going gets tough and you need some assistance as a member of the club they leave you out to dry! This company is disgusting, I closed down my account before i went travelling for a year, now I'm back from my travels and tried to reinstate my membership and was told I never closed my account and owe them loads of money, Im a carer for disabled adults and unable to care for my patientsi, Zipcar are nothing but scammers read more

Worst customer service ever. No chance of emailing, unless you contact them on the only available email address (info) and then you get a reply to say you need to call them. When you do you are put on hold for over 10 minutes, after which the line goes dead. You just can't leave this company, I would never ever recommend this company to anybody, ever! read more

Been a member for a number of years, but costs are rising, standards are slipping. After taking into account membership fees, waiver insurance and other inconveniences mentioned below, it's really cheaper to get cabs for irregular car use, or buy a used car on lease for more regular needs. read more

Zipcar car sharing/hire is not bad if you need to rent a car for an hour or so but is expensive if you need it any longer. If you need to rent a car for a day or more (or even a few hours) it will be cheaper to hire one from a normal/conventional car rental company for a whole day rather than from Zipcar for a few hours. With Zipcar and Zipvan, the London Congestion Charge is free and you get 30 miles of petrol free per day, so if you are only renting a car for an hour or two to go into central London, this is pretty good value. The minimum amount of time you can rent a car or van is one hour but then you can increase the time in 30 minute increments, so you could book a car for an hour and a half. What's great about Zip car is the convenience of having a vehicle parked on the street near to your home and the fact you can book a car instantly (by telephone, online, using the Zipcar phone app etc.) but you may find there aren't any cars available in your area when you want one. read more

Different rules for different pick up points. Can park in the ZipVan bay in one area but the the other. Do not even consider informing the drivers and when they get hit with a PCN, they claim ignorance and refuse to help. When you want to escalate the matter, they refuse to as the decision is final. Do not use this company if you want to be smacked with bogus fines and damage waivers. read more

Suspended my account without giving a reason. Attempts to find out why have gone unanswered. Complete mystery as I've only hired a car a few times over the past year, and have never had any incidents. Has left me in the lurch at short notice - I always thought of myself as a model sort of customer so, beware, this could happen to you! read more

While the Zipcar service is handy, I find the staff very difficult to deal with. They are generally rude and disinterested. I have never come across a staff member willing to assist with any issue. read more

Advertising of zipcar is bullshit! They say £4/hour? I spent £60/ per 2 hours! They charge you £35 if you are late (we were late 20 min). They charge you £2-3 if you reserve it on the phone (without informing you about this charge). Car was dirty inside and outside. It is NOT good for big cities like London. You can stuck in traffic etc, then you will pay £35 per hour for late return. I am unsubscribing from it of course and will never advise it to anyone to have. You need a car? Book it for all day for £10-£20 for 24 hours (depends on collection place). read more

I stayed with zipcar less than a month, and I gotta say, never again! I signed up, even though there was an ad for half price fee to pay , buy the time I got to choose if I pay an annual 60 pounds or 6 pounds a month the half prize possibility disappeared, but thats ok, I still wanted to sign up, everything seemed so easy. My first driving started with putting gas in the car, because it was almost empty. The second time it was full of rubbish inside, the third time found new scrathes on the car. Than I took the car for a day, rented it for 12 hours, a couple of days later I checked my balance, there was an extra 64 pounds minus on it. I called zipcar, and asked what is that. They said, its a cancelation fee, because I didnt use the car when I reserved it. So I asked whay did you charge me ninetysomething pounds for using it as well. They said they dont know, but they try to refund me, but basicly they gave me an explanation that it was my fault...I still dont understand how??? That was the point when I decided to cancel my membership, I was still in the one month trial period. I called them once, to cancel my membership, they said its all done, I should wait an email about it. The email never came, but I found 6 pounds minus on my balance for the next month. So I called 2nd time, asked them again, and asked why my membership wasnt canceled. They said, they never said that they gonna cancel it, because the group for the new members wanted to talk to me. I told them I dont wanna talk to anyone, just please cancel my membership and send me an email about it. The email never came, I called the 3rd time, they said they understand and gonna!!! cancel my membership, but heres the thing...I have to pay 54 pounds because there is a one year contract, and if I quit, it must be paid. I said you gotta be kidding me, because as far as I know, there is a one month trial, and I asked to quit already three times. Than they said it was just a system failure, and I dont have to pay anything, and they gonna send me back the 6 pounds as well. These are facts, I dont want to write down, my opinion, because you can probably guess it. The only thing I found good is the car, I loved the car:) oh yes and one more thing. It is only six pounds a month if you are ready to pay sevenhundred something if anything happens with the car. read more

Really bad service. They charge you a lot when you are late. Only once, and you are paying much more than renitng a normal car. They change your reservation all the time. Cars are always dirty and when you inform them, they blame you for not calling when you got the car. I have emails from them that can be used in teaching marketing at the university as examples on how a customer services shouldn't be. I really recomend to look for other alternatives as a leasing car, a uber or even a cab. read more

Zipcar withdrew the cars from the locations near me and replaced them with Transporters or automatics, which I have never driven. They cited lack of use...really? The nearest manual car is now nearly 3 miles away, which defeats the whole object of belonging to a car club. As there is now no car for me to hire, there is no point in continuing to be a member.Thinking that as this was THEIR decision, and I'm not being unreasonable, I called to cancel and request a refund of the remaining portion of my membership (8 months worth).They refused to refund my money.So now I'm paying for membership of this car club that I can't use. Absolutely useless company, Had hired 4 cars on 4 different occasions, hassle free. On my 5th occasion I had planned to pick my elderly mother up from the airport using the closest zipcar to my house (3 miles). 12 hours prior to picking up the car I had an e-mail to my wife and I's joint e mail saying the email account was suspicious and I needed to send my bank details, copy of license, and passport (nothing about my account being suspended in the meantime. So later on that day I arrived at the zipcar to find my account was suspended. I rang zipcar they said there was nothing they could do, all whilst I am still receiving texts messages to please pick up my reserved zipcar (and charging me full fee price). I explained to the lady and manager over the phone this was my joint e mail, I have used these services prior to this and I was desperate to get my mother from the airport. After kicking up a massive fuss, nothing could be done and I was stuck in the middle of nowhere and my poor mother stuck at the airport. No sympathy and no help from the staff. Disgusted in the customer service and will never use again and will be making sure the company I work for discontinue use. read more
