Zipps Sports Grill has been on my list for a little while. One, because they have a bunch of locations in Phoenix so I see them all the time while I'm driving. And two, because they got busted on ICE which led to quite a bit of coverage online and on the local news. I stopped by their location in Peoria on a Saturday afternoon. I had no trouble finding free parking in the large lot that surrounds the entertainment complex. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much your typical sports bar. Nothing stands out but also, nothing is bad. It's spacious. Plenty of seating. Full bar. Plenty of TVs. I sat at the square bar. Service (4/5): Prompt, friendly service. I only stayed for a beer, but it was a smooth experience. No complaints. Food (N/A): I did not have any food on this visit. My companion said that her chips and salsa wasn't very good though. Probably typical bar fare. Seems like more of a spot where you go for drinks, though they do have a full menu. Drinks (3.5/5): I was in the mood for a beer and ended up with a beer with a twist. They have two different sizes, I went with the smaller version because we were in a time crunch. Here's the twist: you can add a frozen margarita topper to your beer. Pretty interesting idea, though it didn't really taste good or add much to the beer. More of a novel concept than anything else. I think the better play is the reverse: they also have Corona-ritas, basically a marg with a full beer on top. That's a favorite drink of mine and truly the gift that keeps on giving. You drink some, and then your glass magically refills. It's a beautiful thing. I wouldn't run back to go to Zipp's, but if I'm trying to watch some sports, and it's convenient, I'd return. I'm curious to try their food, too. read more

I used to like this zipps location. But ever since 9 months ago they've really gone down hill. The quality of the food has gone down along with the service. Went in today and ordered the buffalo chicken focaccia and a beer. The server was nice enough but I didn't get my beer until 15 minutes after I ordered it and I was brought a buffalo sandwich instead of the focaccia. I mentioned it to the server who apologized and admitted she rang in the wrong thing. Not a big deal but I had to wait another 15 minutes for my food. I was never checked on by a manger nor did I see one walking the floor the entire hour I was there. When the check was brought the server forgot to remove the sandwich from my bill so I had to wait again to pay. Not the best experience and I'll probably never go back to this location again. Also I wouldn't recommend the focaccias, they're like a dumber version of a Stromboli, and aren't even made with focaccia dough. read more

Upon our first impression of the place, we sat in a booth, and the smell was awful--like dirty mop water. We then moved to the bar side, where my husband and I both ordered the chicken sandwich. His was incredibly hard, but he was hungry and ate it anyway. His fries were not edible. Mine was so tough that it felt like cement. I tried a small bite first and noticed it was difficult to chew, so I took another bite and almost broke my front tooth. That's how hard the sandwich was! The fries had a really unpleasant greasy taste, almost like they never change the oil. The onion rings were also lacking in seasoning and were soggy. Overall, the experience was disappointing. However, our waitress, Antoinette was super nice, she's the only reason for the star. read more

You know, I had a good time here, even though I was expecting not to. My daughter requested to go here for her birthday. It was large, comfortable, and I felt safe inside. There are screens everywhere, playing sports, and loud music playing as well. A great spot if you just want to tune out in the white noise or enjoy your favorite sports team playing larger than life in front of you. Lots of World Cup fans coming in for dinner while we were here. Our server was really nice. My daughter got a choice of a free Zipps Margarita (Zipparita) or Cookie Skillet dessert for her birthday. Lots of fried food here to go along with the beer, drinking, and cheering. I'd say it's a classic sports bar with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating to fit large crowds. You gotta try that Zipparita - strong slushie that goes down easy. read more

Takes a long time to get a server to wait on you. In the meantime three servers walk past you and avoid eye contact. We have to ask for silver ware. My husband got his food first. I waited ten minutes to get my food. The fries are cold always. The fish and chips are three small nuggets. Asked for a manager and they don't care to bother. read more

Our neighborhood was begging for a Sports Bar/Restaurant close enough that "if" needed one could walk home safely. When we heard it was one of the Zipps, we were excited. However, from the hostess to the service and kitchen, we were disappointed at all levels. IMHO, it's not the staff's fault. For every facet of a restaurant to perform poorly, it's actually the management and owners! From charging for items like additional sauce/dipping (there's never enough sauce given) to the odd decision to not have plates (everything is served in a basket). As I understand from people on the inside, this is their worst performing location. If it weren't for the students at Midwestern, they'd probably close this location. Save yourself the hassle and try somewhere else. read more

So here is the deal. My Daughter and I met our husbands. They were sitting in the bar. We went to the hostess to be seated in a the restaurant. We all had menus - opened, and the guys had beers. My Daughter and I did not have any drinks. We were just sitting waiting to be acknowledged and we waited and waited. I saw the hostess speaking with a waitress, i got up and I asked "does someone know that we are here" she said yes. We waited and waited. A female server walked by and I asked "is there someone taking care of this table" she said "I don't know and walked away" We waited and waited ... I told my husband "I guarantee someone thinks we are taken care of because of the two beers even though we have menus opened" A waiter came over and did apologize and said "I thought you were taken care of since you had beers" knew it Okay food ordered, food came, sweet potato chips - not great. They all got burgers and liked them and I had the turkey bar, not great. No flavor at all. Anyway, just a bad experience because of all of the waiting. It is a very noisy place. Came in here on a Monday afternoon as we were in the area over the weekend and met up with some friends before we took off. Our server was fabulous. She was fun and had a great vibe. It was our first time here so she helped us out a bit with a few recommendations. Food came out great everything was hot, tasty and pretty big portions. Our group tried some wings a chicken quesadilla, which was stuffed with chicken and all the extras inside. There was a barbecue burger, which came with a large side of fries. I also tried the BLT and soup special since it was a weekday. Couple of us ordered fountain drinks, which were served in a ginormous cup. I haven't seen a pop served in that amount in a very long time. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and amount of food you receive. I keep giving this place another chance, and every single visit is the same. This isn't about the food anymore. It's about consistently terrible management. Dirty tables. Slow, indifferent service. Food dropped off with no napkins. Wrong order. 1.25 hour wait for food. Obnoxiously loud music, meant to turn tables quickly. Ask for water and it never shows up. Servers disappear. Nobody seems to notice, and apparently nobody in management cares enough to fix it. When the exact same problems happen over and over with different servers, it stops being a server issue. It's a leadership issue. This is a management team that has either accepted mediocrity or completely lost control of the operation. There are too many good sports bars in town to waste time at one that's this consistently disorganized. Every visit feels like they're doing you a favor by taking your money. Zipps should be embarrassed by what they've allowed this place to become. It's an absolute joke. Zipps; it's a problem. read more

Had to comment on a bad experience at this location last night. Went in with my wife and brother. Ordered a To go order for one of our sons to have when he got home from work and figured we would get it at the end of our meal. Unfortunately we received it nearly 30 minutes before our meals were even brought to the table! We had ordered the fish and chips with onion rings instead of French fries, the Tuna Melt with 1/2 onion rings, 1/2 fries and the Pepper Jack Focaccia also with 1/2 onion rings, 1/2 fries. As I mentioned we waited nearly 30 minutes for our meals and instantly knew we had issues- the fries were cold to the touch, the onion rings were mushy, the fish breading was mushy and the under side of the focaccia was mushy. After waiting another 10 min we ate what we could stomach figuring our waiter was not coming back to check on us. The tuna melt was the only thing truly worth eating- Nothing else was good. The waiter came back once and commented on Dessert- we laughed and said- we didn't like the food and dessert was out of the question and would like our check- we never saw the waiter again, someone else came by, gave us our bill and then Cashed us out. The service was really great. We walked in and noticed the fun music right away. Very big restaurant too! The host let us choose our table, so that was cool. When I server showed up she was so friendly and quick to bring our drinks. The food came out pretty quick too. But here is where things got weird. It's super obvious that certain items are made and just tossed under the heat labor; the fries and onion rings are trash. The wings were perfect tho! That pretty much the only thing g is order if I ever went back. Side-note: stay away from the claw machines. They will eat your money and not give it back. Then they said they couldn't split our check, and gave us a massive check to split ourselves. I've been here multiple times and never had to do that, they've always been able to split the check until now. Went up to Zipps tonight for the first half of the Eagles-Chargers game, as I was craving some wings. I love this Zipps. The bartenders Marissa and Dylan were super friendly and got to me right away with my drink. Glass never got empty as they were prompt to ask if I wanted another before my last sip. Went to lunch with 6 of my friends today. We were once of the first tables to get seated. The waitress took our orders and all we did was sit there & wait. I ordered a dessert of a brownie with vanilla ice cream. Everyone got their meals, but I didn't. I had the simplest order. Everyone in my party finished their meals and I still didn't get mine. The waitress tried her hardest to get the kitchen staff to expedite my meal. Finaly, we spoke to the manager and explained that the French fries were very greasy, and the Greek salad only had lettuce, feta cheese and a few black olives on it-no meat in this Greek salad. All in all, my party did not like their food. The manager did comp me $10 and said that my dessert was going to be free. We all decided that we would never return to Zipps. That place used to be my go-to for take out wings. It's now just a shadow of its former winged glory. Called in to place a take out order and was informed they don't accept those anymore. If you want take out you have to be present in the restaurant. So I walk in and place my order at the bar. 30 minutes later a kindly waitress brings me the takeout bag and it's the wrong order. I wait another ten minutes only to be told that my food was given to someone else but they'll expedite the prep. Another ten minutes go by and there's nothing with no attempt to get me my food after waiting in the bar for almost an hour. My meal (the honey balsamic salad) never came out and we had to tell the manager to just cancel it because the rest of our party had finished eating. The Buffalo chicken sandwich my husband ordered was almost burnt and after being told that additional salsa was free, we were still charged for it (not to mention it was brought after most of the chips were gone.) The place is huge.two patio areas, lots of TVs as well as a bar side 21 and up and family side. We couldn't find a seat directly at the bar so we opted for a high top. Waitress was friendly and came over quickly. I couldn't decide what I wanted so just started with water. Lame I know ha ha. There seemed to be a lot of people drinking what they called zipparitas ( mini margaritas) while they looked decent the flavors didn't sound great to me. We ordered a beer on tap and looked over the menu. While some options sounded okay we opted out of ordering since we were still full from an earlier meal. There were pool tables and a few other games that people were enjoying. The bathroom floors were a bit sticky and off putting, but looked clean. Service doors down a bit, but okay throughout our visit. Vibe just wasn't our thing. Lots of older guys, not so much couples etc. a bit boring. CONSISTENCY - from the host, to the servers, to the food runner, they ALL are hospitable great people with SERVICE mindsets and actual personalities- no wet blankets here thank god. and for the volume they do, the food never disappoints so thanks for the consistency in the kitchen to all the cooks. I feel good spending my money here. I came to different locations when I had no kids over 15 years ago ... and now with a family 2 kids and a husband and it's a great place for many different lifestyles. Great concept and great people. I'm stoked I bought a house with a Zipps nearby our neighborhood. Thanks Zipps for continuing to kill it! read more

I really wanna like this place because their food is awesome and I love the ambience with the big TVs for watching sports. Unfortunately, the service is always terrible. No matter if it's slow or busy, it seems I can never get a drink quickly and it takes forever to get my food. I keep giving it a second third and fourth try and every time I come back, it always takes forever. I guess I keep going because I love the wings, but we have definitely found other places to try out in the neighborhood because of the lack of service. It's a really fun atmosphere. Staff is very nice.They do watch out for your drinking. Make sure you're not overdoing it, I guess that's a plus. Service is acceptable. I got the fish taco burrito style and it was amazing. My friends got wings bone in and although the flavor was good, they were disgusting, the skin was all mushy. They ordered a 1/2 and half basket of onion, rings and fries. Mostly fries with just a few onion rings. Where to begin... went at 545p last night (Wednesday). Sat in the bar and it was fairly busy. It looked like they were understaffed as the girls were literally running. It took about 10 minutes to place a drink order and another 15 to place a food order. Keep in mind the gentleman to my right and the two ladies to my husbands left, arrived after we did. Both of their orders came out before ours. When ours did, both orders of french fries were cold. We sent them back for hot ones. After we both finished our food (a burger and wings) the fries still hadn't arrived. My husband then asked to have them removed from our bill, which was now $41 for a single patty burger, ten wings and one beer. I'm not sure where this all fell apart, but I was disappointed that our server never asked if we needed anything (I had to flag her down), never said she'd check on the order, and never apologized for any of our issues. We had to waive down a hostess to get our water, I had to ask for a manager for my drink I never got and the check they weren't going to bring. We could have walked out and no one would have noticed! Never going back to this location. Tell your servers to get off their phones! She was back here so long never turned her back to check on customers. We were never offered refills it was an awful experience. I've never felt the need to not tip a server. But I refused to tip her and our bill was $100..... someone train her please.
